Very attractive, nicely designed unit, but, unlike the 20-year-old Kenmore it replaced, lacks a hold-compression feature that keeps the piston in the down position for extra compaction. Only compacts 1/3 of the way down the trash container, so not as much space as one would like to add new material.

The compactor looks nice, works great, and a great value

We had this same compactor for 22 years. When the old required replacement we stayed with the same basic product. However, the newer model does not have a robust housing, which makes the entire product seem cheaper and have a tinny sound when opening, closing and compacting.

This is a great trash compactor. It also has an on/off button to keep children from pushing it every time they pass.

Very pleased! Motor is so much quieter than old one I had. I wish it would compact lower than it does–guess I have to get used to when I should run it.

Works great very happy easy to use quite and efficient

Got it as an open box product at an awesome price.
The only thing I don’t like is that it does not have an over pack feature. However you can just pack it down and then turn it off, works the same.
Guinivere –
I have had it about 3 weeks & so far I am pleased.

This is a very nice smooth and quiet compactor. It looks modern and works well
Timmy –
The most inexpensive stainless steel model I could find.

Purchased this compactor for our newly renovated cabin in the woods! So far has met my expectations! Very easy install with direct plug in. Very quiet too!

Returned to store. Was a built in model and I wanted a free standing unit

Bought this to replace my 17 yr old one. There are not a lot to chose from anymore. Didn’t want to spend a lot. It works well. Fit in the spot perfectly. A little bit loud but not horrible.

I purchased this based upon the reviews and my previous compactor was also a Whirlpool. I remodeled my kitchen and replaced this compactor only because it was the wrong color. When I pulled the old one out it was still working just fine and it was original from the late 1980’s. I am hoping this one is just as good!

The appliance is top notch and will last forever. The best part are the looks which are streamline. The compactor also does a pretty good job of not over crushing items which is nice.
Ebmdr –
The compactor does not compact as well as my other one did. I like the appearance cosmetically.

This compactor replaced an older one that was out of style in the updated kitchen.
The drawer opens smoothly with your foot; easy to close by hand or with a leg nudge.
The operation noise is about the same.
The Best Buy delivery team was great, on time, clean and respectful of the floors! They took away my old compactor.
This compactor was chosen because the controls are exposed and the stainless styling.

Sadly I had to return it but only because our existing cabinet would not accommodate it. I’ve had a compactor in my kitchen for at least 30 years and was so surprised when our builder did not offer this an option. I consider a built-in trash compactor in the kitchen an absolute necessity like a dishwasher or oven. It decreases the amount of nagging I have to do with my husband. Sadly, I had to return the item for now until I have a cabinet that will accommodate it. My other kitchen appliances are all Whirlpool so that is one of the reasons I selected this particular compactor. Really looking forward to purchasing it again once my additional kitchen cabinets are completed.

Beautiful and well built. Best purchase ever. This is an excellent, well built product that looks wonderful in my kitchen!

Had our previous Kitchen Aid for 14 years before it stopped working properly. This one which cost over $900 stopped after less than 3 months. Getting a hold of Whirlpool for service was not easy. On hold 45 minutes. The start button is not working. I do not like the button compared to the knob that you turn to start the compactor on the Kitchen Aid model. It is more noisy than the Kitchen Aid that was 14 years old. I would spend the extra 300 for that one after this experience. Appliance man sent by Whirlpool was able to get it working and he is installing new switch this week as the fix is temporary. I hope the new switch lasts way more than one year! I hope for their sake this is isolated experience.

The compactor looks good, controls are easy to operate, and it smashes the trash like it’s supposed to but the drawer sticks when opening or closing. Upon close inspection inside you can see where the drawer scrapes the bottom surface of the compactor at the back. I’ve been told this is a design flaw so I certainly cannot recommend it. The repairman was unable to fix it so back it goes. Hopefully I’ll have better luck next time.

This has worked out very well so far. Looks great.
Dajaipad –
Would have liked to see that it pauses after compacting instead of going straight back up

I bought this new Trash Compactor to replace one from the 70’s. It works great but I noticed that it is not as well made as the one from the 70’s. But nothing really is anymore.

Don’t buy this doesn’t work, the touchscreen brakes easily.
Junk –
We bought this compactor approx. 6 years ago & it’s been nothing but problems. After a few years the drive gear broke rendering the compactor useless. Upon examination the gear was cheap plastic! Once repaired, the cheap plastic handle broke off! At the price of handle replacement (over $100!) we opted to use the foot petal instead to open the unit. Several mos. ago the compactor broke down again; making a horrid grinding noise. I cannot for the life of me understand how Whirlpool can sell such an inferior product — and charge over a thousand dollars for it!
Carphanatic –
Great little compactor. It’s amazing how much more trash can fit in the bag before having to take out.
Stefano7 –
This trash compactor looks great and works extremely well. It has a great design.
Goodbutloud –
It’s works good. Not as quiet as my previous KitchenAid but couldn’t get any other for more than 6 months!!!!
GloriaE –
I am pleased with this unit. It replaced a similar Whirlpool model I had for 30 years.
Review –
We started having problems with the ram not stopping on the way up. (Less than a year old) We had to take the button out and cant use the compact feature. We called for service since it was so new. They sent someone who didnt know how to work on a compactor. This is not worth the money!
madDogmike –
Fit perfect still getting used to working it but it doesn’t job

Unfortunately the warranty from manufacturers is 1 year. Mine broke exactly 13 months and 1 week later. Additionally, I tried to get a service person from whirlpool and they won’t service in my location. this is an expensive machine to only get a little over a year of use out of. Im extremely disappointed. I Had to wait almost a month to get it in the first place, so technically I think I am within a year of owning it, but they dont care about that, only the purchase date. How it isn’t functioning: After compacting, it won’t shut off, starting thumping loudly, the whole machine jumps up and down, sounds like it is going to blow up, smells like it is going to combust in flames. sound safe for your family? I think not. ~Yours truly, and extremely disappointed customer. do yourself a favor and go to a local company and spend a little more money on a compactor, it will be worth it. (I just spent $100/month and now have to purchase another)

Replaced old one of 25 years. Looks great and works fine.
SandyL –
Purchased to replace a Kenmore that is 22 years old and needed repair. This unit works, but is noisey, flimsy, and don’t care for the push button design.
FrancesG –
I am not extremely happy with the trash compactor’s design and I probably would not have purchased it if I had the opportunity to see it at the store. In fact I would have purchased the more expensive Kitchen Aid.
JyotsnaS –
The material is Not sturdy. It feels like a tin .
Maybe new x1 products are not very solid
PatrickR –
Working fine so far. Easy to use and to empty when full.
