Does the job fine when working properly, but is a bit buggy at times and shuts itself off.
LynW –
Worked very easy and if you have any problems Honestech is available to help! I have many VHS tapes and converting them to DVD with this is a huge help!
Ames014 –
This product was extremely easy to use. Took it out of the box, installed the software and it was ready to go. Easy hookup and no troubles at all!!
MichelleE –
This item is super easy to use, even for the technically challenged like myself. Works seamlessly with iMovie.
Formacusers1 –
Bought it a couple months ago i thought you could make the video quality better but no it justs tranfers the data to computer but it does its job
Fotobuff –
Easy to hook up and use. Was able to transfer four old tapes to my computer and share them with family using Dropbox or making a DVD. Quality is diminished but acceptable. Inexpensive if you have a lot of tapes to transfer compared to using a service which can be pricey. A negative is that you have to sit there while it does it in real time so it can be time consuming. I hope to use it for the many tapes I have stored. Any truly special videos I will likely have a professional service do after I make my own for insurance. It can be buggy at times but overall it works well and I am satisfied.
ChrisStar –
Was super easy to set up, and it worked perfectly for transferring VHS to digital.

I needed to convert a VHS tape to digital. This Vidbox product was easy to use and did a great job of doing what it was supposed to do. If you need to convert VHS tapes and you have a Mac buy this product.

Spent 2 days trying to figure out how to get it to work with my Mac Book. But works OK once I FINALLY got it going. Just wish there was a way for me to know if the entire thing would fit on the DVD drive or not. Its not until its done burning that I find out it cut out the last like 5 minutes. And for old home videos from 20+ years ago, every minute counts! I wonder if there anything else out there that is more user-friendly?

VIDBOX for mac works just as advertised. I have easily used it to convert old VHS and mini dv tapes to digital easily.
Getoutandplay –
This program worked perfectly. It was coupled with a Seagate hard drive on my MacBook Air.
RMSVideo –
I purchased this exclusively to transfer VHS tapes to a digital format. I have successfully transferred about ten hours of tapes and everything has gone smoothly!
Quality is as good as when I was recording VHS tape with a digital 8 camcorder and then importing to the computer.
The provided software has not crashed or frozen at all. The UI is simple and to the point. I have used it on a new 5k iMac along with an older 2012 iMac. Works great on both.

INSTALL AND EASE OF USE….PERFECT. WORKS GREAT, TRANSFERRING FROM CAMERA TO COMPUTER
Bigbob –
This software and device work well. Easy to use, no directions necessary.
Nucci –
It’s nice to see something actually worked exactly as advertised. Plugged it all in on my Mac 27 and boom… converted 12 VHSC tapes from 26 years ago in an evening.
TNRallycross –
I had a difficult time trying to get this to work for my Mac. Eventually did, but even then I had to slog through the interface.
MacH –
This product performs well to convert video formats. It is not yet perfect, but the technology is clearly getting better.
ReyNica –
Easy setup. Install software and plug cables. Easy to use software and copy. Good for simple transfer.
Flyer33 –
Five minutes to load software onto my iMac. Picked my best S-VHS VCR for playback(JVC). Vidbox has connections for standard RCA or S-VHS cables. With a few clicks you choose your inputs and recording time. Press ‘Play’ on your VCR and click ‘Record’ on your computer and Vidbox does the rest. Drag and drop the finished file anywhere you want. Already digitized 85 2 hour tapes flawlessly. Did a frame by frame side by side playback comparison of a 5gig .mov recording with a 25gig .dv recording. Vidbox for Mac wins.

It’s very easy to use but the program shuts often. If you have a large VHS/Hi8 collection to transfer to digital, you’ll only be able to transfer a few videos at a time. Then you’ll have to restart the program. Also, double check your videos to make sure the sound transferred properly. I have a few videos where the sound didn’t match up with the mouth movement or what was happening at the time. I had to re-record them. Overall, this probably saved me a couple of hundred dollars to transfer old videos on my own. It was a good buy!
Junior44 –
Very please with this product! Holds audio in sync on longer clips. Easy set up. Works like advertised!
Good –
It froze up a few times and although it is for a Mac, I left it plugged in and it really caused my Mac to glitch. Only plug it in when using and it helps. Works good to transfer old videos tho.
ahmmpm –
i have used it to transfer VHS and Hi8 to digital. I have even had to use it for DVC since digital DVC camcorder is not compatible with iMac.
Edofthejungle –
Easy to install and use. Exactly what I needed to transfer my old tapes.
Shar –
Easy to order through BEst Buy. It is also easy to use for quickly taping your VCR tapes
Merman –
Easy to use, transferred my videos to I movies without a hitch.
EmDev –
I am pretty happy with this item. It did what I wanted it to do. Converted 20 videos so far and I am happy with the quality. The set up is quite easy and straightforward. Very easy to use.
Allie –
Frustrated with a more expensive product I had previously purchased (which I returned), I decided to try VidBox for Mac. Am I glad I did! Easy to install; my old VHS cassettes copied without a glitch and I couldn’t be happier! I had in the past converted VHS tapes to digital through Costco, but it was a lot more cost effective to purchase VidBox and convert all of my old videos. A lot of money saved! Anyone who has an ear and who has old VHS videos will hear me recommend VidBox! Hope it works as well for others as it has for me!
Baileyw813 –
Great for hooking to to VCR or camcorder for converting analog to digital! Easily play, pause and record and capture with the provided software.
Ghostboy –
This device was great! My grandma had over 50 VHS tapes of Home movies that were deteriorating every day. This product let me use a standard VHS player and digitize my grandmas memories with ease. 10/10 would recommend.
epach7 –
I have converted over 30 home videos with no issues. I am happy with this product.

Tough deciding on 1 or 2 stars because the one time this worked it worked well. Unfortunately I chose to quit the program after transferring one VHS tape to my Mac, Next day, excitedly went to continue transferring my family’s precious memories and sorry Charlie, no such luck. Got as far as connecting the devices together (which they already were), clicked the button to continue only to have the color wheel spin indefinitely. I did the same process at least 8 times that day, several times the next day and couple of times the next, Even tried disconnecting the USB from my Mac and reconnecting just before clicking, no difference. If I had to guess, I’d say the problem is in the software. I’m running Big Sur so they probably need to fix/upgrade something. I sent a report to Apple each time I had to force quit. I would say the hardware probably works fine but for some reason the software is hanging. Such a shame really that a product claiming to be made for Mac doesn’t work with Mac. We Mac users have a hard enough time finding software and hardware that plays well with Apple products so when we find one promising to do so we feel a bit of a relief and believe it. So unfortunately I can’t be waiting around for fixes or I won’t be able to return the product so it will be getting returned and the search goes on!!! I suppose I will have to give the Elgato a try.

Worked EXCELLENT! Just what I’ve been looking for!
twister –
It worked great for converting from tapes using vcr. I connected it computer using the provided cable and it was easy. Things get tricky when converting from camcorder. There were no clear instructions on how to connect. I figured it out however I ended up having irritating sound in the audio. Not sure if it is an issue with converter or camcorder itself.
GregB –
So easy to use! Tranfered all of my VHS and HI-8 home movies to my computer. Now I can easily put them on a thumb drive and give them to family members. Save those memories folks! So worth the money.
Nathan –
Converted video was so choppy that it looked more like a slide show than a video. Would not recommend. I gave up after the first VHS tape.
Original –
Its not what I spected!
I thought it could read the tape by itself and it doesn’t.
You must have the old device to make it work.
dagdaenigma –
Vidbox works flawlessly for recording your VHS tapes in a digital format. You have a great deal of control over where you wish to save or burn your video. I was able to save a video from the 1980s that I assumed was going to not be able to be saved. The process is simple and intuitive even for a beginner.

I’ve enjoyed converting old vhs home movies to digital!
Red4 –
does exactly what I needed VHS to digital, was easy to understand.
Mrswhitt –
I purchased this for my Mac and I am grateful I did. It is easy to set up, comes with all the plugs needed so you don’t need to run around looking in your old junk drawers for a rca/s cord cable. Allows easy transfer of old home videos.
Techguy –
The most effortless way to digitize your old VHS tapes.
Oprimme –
Great product, perfect for converting videos to digital format.
StevenB –
There a few transfers that were not saved to the destination folder (or at all it seems). Not sure why, as the process was the same every time.
Also you can’t change the size of the monitor screen in the program and it’s quite small.
