My rating is due to the mobile app. This dash camera is an older model and because of this, I believe Thinkware kind of swept it under the rug. I read a lot of reviews stating Thinkware is a good brand for dashcams however, I was really disappointed with the lack of support with their mobile app. It takes an eternity to download footage. It shouldn’t be this complicated. It’s a shame because I was really impressed with the quality of image but not having access to their mobile app is a buzzed kill. In this day and age, no one wants to connect to an adapter/computer unless necessary or as an extra backup. I mean if I was involved in a car accident I would want to have immediate access to the footage not wait until I got home to plug it into a computer. Because of this, I ended up returning this item and exchanging it for a different brand dashcam.

Awesome camera! Simple to use. I’ve been watching dash cam videos on youtube and it didn’t take many of those to convince me this is cheap insurance. One accident (potential lawsuit) will more than pay for this camera. Nothing like having a video proving you were not at fault – priceless!

Great camera’s, very easy to use. Turns on automatically and has continuous recording so you don’t need to do anything except get in and drive! Used the Geek Squad hardwire install it. Only downside is there is no app to view on your phone with this model.

Had i known it did not have a wifi connection i would not have wasted my money. My fault for not doing a better research on this product. Ihave had the Thinkware cameras in the past and naturally thought it was built in. Extremely disappointed in this product.

This is a good but not great dash cam.
First, the good. The recordings from the front cam are good, the rear recording is acceptable. It was easy to mount and wire with the hardwire kit. The screen is a nice feature to see how both cameras views look. The GPS unit is a nice addition for tracking and red-light camera alerts.
The not so good, the cam doesn’t indicate when it is doing parking recording and the included micro SD card only lasted for one year. Also, you have to remove the micro SD card to review recordings as there is no WiFi or Bluetooth connection to access recording.

I have installed the forward facing camera. It works well as expected. I have not installed the rearward facing camera. I am trying to resolve how to attach it to the rear door of my SUV. I will need to install a bracket to fasten it either to the door or ceiling of SUV, which is a 2016 Buick Envision. Additionally, I am disappointed in the number of clips that were provided to hold the wire.cables in place on the ceiling. I received 3 with the order and complained to Thinkware and they sent me 5. Still do not think I will have enough to adequately support and attach the cables. As small and inexpensive as the clips should be, I believe that at least 10 should have been sent with the order. Installation instruction non existent. My rating may be high as the short falls I have come to expect with internet orders/chinese made. My recommendation is a very limited yes, because of previous comments,

Amazing product with great quality. My fiancé and I purchased these and reviewed some of the footage recently. It is very high quality. The feed is always on a loop so no matter what it is recording. That is very iseful incase something happens that didn’t quite trigger the sensor. Easy to install and easy to set up. Comes with a memory card of 16BG but I purchased a separate one of 132GB.

BUYER BEWARE… Thinkware camera equipment does not perform as described. I purchased two different models with store installation. Both had great picture quality, when the camera function worked properly. Unfortunately, both cameras were undependable. I ultimately discovered the Thinkware product technology is substandard and only works intermittently. Ugh. I was very excited to purchase the Thinkware brand and did not invest the time necessary to properly research before my purchase… so my experience was a lesson learned for me (twice). Don’t be fooled by the higher star “fluff” reviews that appear legit.. the camera function is not dependable and may not work when you want it to. Save your money and time.. choose a different brand.

Rear cam is a bit quirky to setup, would be much easier if it connected to the main cam via BlueTooth or something.

TLDR:
-Not great video quality, you can’t read license plates more than half a car length away.
-Audio recording is ONLY manual, so a separate button you need to press if you need to read a license plate out loud.
-Can’t use with their app. You have to download videos via the SD card.
-Only 16GB SD card.
-Buttons can be difficult to press, even with my tiny fingers. Impossible if you wanted to press one while driving.
-Not worth the price.
I had one of the techs at bestbuy recommend and order a front and rear dash cam set for my new car. He picked this one (and this was before it was on sale so I paid the full $250, I did inform him I had no price limit and wanted something with the best views, audio recording, parking incidents, etc.). I had it installed via hardwiring and was really excited. I’ve played with it enough in the car (trying out the audio recording, pressing the manual recording etc.) that I finally brought the SD card in today to review the video footage. After paying what I paid for the cameras and the set for hardwiring (sold separately by the way), I can’t believe I spent $300 on this. The video quality is not something I would expect in 2023. Not even back in 2010. It’s awful. You can’t see a license plate from more than half a car length away. I was also under the impression that the audio recording was always on but it’s only manual. So if you get in an accident and want to say the car license plate out loud (because who knows if you’ll actually see it in the video), you’ll have to press a separate button, which even with my tiny fingers can be difficult to press. In reality, this isn’t the makers fault. The man at bestbuy who ordered it for me hyped it up and made me believe I was getting a dash cam close to top of the line (which is what I was looking for). Though I’ll say the price isn’t worth it to me. maybe $100 would have been more of a fair price, especially given that the set for hardwiring isn’t included. I just wanted the best for my car because the first month I got it, I was hit 3 different times while at work, out of my view, and no one to blame for the $1,400 in repairs. I should have done my due diligence and researched more before trusting someone else to order for me, but I have no clue what a big difference all the different dash cameras have. Not to mention, the tech told me that I could use their app with this camera, but in fact you can’t because it has no wi-fi.

This product did not work out of the box.
This product is not supposed to record when parking mode is set to off. On Monday morning after being gone for the weekend, I come back to a dead car battery. The camera was recording the whole weekend, draining my battery. I brought this to the attention of customer service and their response was “it doesn’t record when the vehicle is off and parking mode is set to off”.
The front camera will speak when it is turned on. Every time I manually turn the front camera on, it states “Rear Camera Disconnected”. This seems to be a known issue with thinkware as they gave me steps to remedy the problem. Those steps did not work and they are working to provide me a new rear camera.
I thought their customer service was good at first since the rear camera was the first issue. They treated me well, responded quickly. But the issue with the front camera and their response to it tells me to never deal with thinkware again.
