This zoom is light, compact and a good value compared to the Sony 70-200 f/2.8. No image stabilization but not a deal breaker for me due to Sony’s in body image stabilization. I’ll take the savings.
Gretch –
It’s a great lens and is very fast at focusing. It is really heavy but guess that is to be expected with being a f2.8.
Sunny –
This lens is light for its focal length and easy to carry whole day long. The image quality is excellent similar to my 28-75 mm lens. This is missing the external buttons but those can be managed using the camera settings. The price is great compared to the gm lens.
SpeedRacerPhotos –
Great lens. Lightweight and significantly cheaper than the Sony Version.
John –
Sharp lens, good quality construction for the price. Wish it has stabilizations, but at this price point you really can’t complain.

Amazing lense!!! An every photographer must have. Great lense for portraits, telephoto and videos. This is my go to lense next to my Tamron 28-75 f2.8 when I work weddings or do street photography. Get sharp images with amazing color renditions straight off the Sony A7iii. Buy it!

Highly recommend! Great pictures ,clear pictures very fast and easy to use. Doesn’t have image stabilization but your Sony alpha will do a good job compensating for the lack of it.
Ravi –
Good lens, really good for the price and I would say it is better than G Master lens.

This Lens is very sharp and very low heavy. Very versatility you wanna love… very very recommended
Porschetech29 –
Very clear sharp lens and super happy with the results. I was saving up for the 70-200 f2.8 G Master but I just could not justify the cost for my use. Next purchase will be the Tamron 28-70 f2.8 to replace my kit lens.

New favorite lens. Nice bokeh. Love the range. Zooms in nicely and easily. Overall a big thumbs up!
Billyboy –
Great range and fast lens for the size. Takes very sharp photos. Overall great glass. Would recommend.
Remo –
It’s great lens
The color rendering is good
Focusing is acceptable but waiting for tamron to release a new firmware update to be like the 24 70 mm

I will start out with the negative. There is no lens stabilization. But I knew this when buying the lens and the price point of the lens reflects this. This lens focuses fast and is tack sharp! The colors are rich and accurate. It is smaller than all current 70-200 f2.8 lenses on the market. This lens works great on my a6000. My next camera body will have IBIS so the stabilization thing will be a moot point at that time. I would buy this lens again….. absolutely. The quality and value are there.

I’d like to give this a 4.5 but that’s probably not fair, really the only thing not to like about this lens is that it is NOT the Sony G Master 70-200. That is said a bit tongue in cheek but that was the choice I made when looking at the two of them. Why did I go with the Tamron? It’s half. Half the price and half the weight.
I am using it with the Sony A7RIV and do a mixture of portraits and pet photography (non-professional) and the Tamron gives me razor sharp photos at any reasonable light, focuses fast even on a jumping dog, is easy to hand hold… and fits well within my kit bag. I usually carry 4 lenses at a time and really do appreciate the weight and size savings over the Sony G Master.

I’ve added this lens to my other 2 Tamron fast zooms – the 17-28 and 28-75 f/2.8, so I now own the “holy trinity”. The Tamron 70-180 has a constant aperture of f/2.8 and is super sharp right through the focal range. Although it does not have image stabilization built in it’s light enough for it not to be a problem if you have IBIS in your Sony camera body. I decided to buy the Tamron range and save the extra cost over the Sony zooms as they are plenty sharp enough for all my needs with both the A7iii and the A7Riii – and I invested the savings in some Sony brand primes…. best of both worlds!

Yes it doesn’t zoom to 200 and no you wont miss it. 180mm is fine, crop it or walk closer to your subject. No optical image stabilization but I can use it with my A7iii with no issues and appreciate the trade off in weight savings. Image quality? Tack sharp to me but I also don’t blow up an image to 300% and look at every pixel. Listen, this len’s super power is that it’s f2.8 and your average dad with a camera like yours truly can afford this without needing to come up with creative excuses to justify the cost to the better half. Get this, take photos, capture memories and be happy.

Our new favorite lens. Really brings far objects closer!
Trevinchi –
I am videographer and filmmakers and this lens was something I was hesitant to buy at first because it wasn’t Sony but after testing it out and having to rely on it in high pressure situations I am a fan of Tamron now! It is durable, smooth and something I would definitely recommend to the next person without question.

A great alternative to the Sony 70-200 2.8, from a cost and weight saving perspective. If you don’t need those extra 20mm this is a great way to lighten your load when traveling or having to wear your camera strap for an extended period of time.
Adil –
Very well constructed with excellent optics. Almost as good as other far higher-priced lenses. Use it mainly for indoor portraits and happy with the performance.
Diana –
Very good quality lens. My boyfriend loves it! The picture quality is actually pretty good.

This has been a great lens to have! It’s not the lightest…but the glass is incredible. It’s been my workhorse all summer, shooting my sons baseball games. over 120k photos and the only thing I have an issue with is with dust…yes, it is sealed, but somehow the dust has got in. It’s a pain…but Tamron offers a 6-year warranty and getting it cleaned is free! Due to Covid19 their 3 day turn around time isn’t being offered, but I got my lens back within a 10 days. (the lens I sent had some scratches (my fault) but when I got it back…they were gone! Literally looks brand new across the board! I LOVE that.
Honestly, I’ve been super impressed with how great the pictures turn out and how great this product is.

Compared the Sony glass lens, Tamron is light weight, half the price, offers f/2.8 and is easy to use with Sony E-mount bodies. Your hands will thank you, add the Best Buy protection plan and you don’t have to worry about paying out of pocket if damaged for select years of coverage.

Relatively new to photography so I didn’t want to drop a ton of cash on a lens. I did a lot of research on comparable lenses (Sony 70-200 f4 and f2.8) and this made the most sense for the price. I enjoy the reach of the lens, not concerned with missing 20mm on the long end. The weight is manageable. Autofocus works well.
Alwaysshooting –
Solid lense for the price. Save a $1,000 and get this instead of the Sony G Master.
Harsha –
versatile lens and all around performance is really good. love it.
Chris –
I was looking for something to fill the gap between my 28-75 and 200-600 so this fit in pretty well. It’s a solid lens for that medium zoom length where you want to just get a little bit closer, but can’t quite get there physically. It’s great for portraits with a nice separation. Also amazing for when you want to get some decent animal shots. I get that for the price you’re making some sacrifices, so be sure your camera has good ibis if you’re planning on shooting handheld.
SivaS –
Execellent optical quality. Images are very sharp abd clean. Good product from Tamron.
CynthiaW –
Great all in one lens. A must have for photographers on the go
AaronB –
Very good value. Really sharp fast auto focus. And half the price of the best
JonWin –
Beautiful bokeh, good portrait and closer-sports zoom range, and doesn’t cost nearly as much as a GMaster. What else could you ask for?
I use an a7iii body and autofocus is insane fast. Tamron did a good job.
JEBJEB –
You can’t beat the Tamron lens because of the amazing price and the quality of the glass
BrittanyT –
My daughter is a freelance photographer and this lens has been a great starter product for her. Great lens esp for the price
FtblMoM –
The quality was good but, it just did not have the zoom I expected. Many reviews raved about how great it was for sports. Many sports are not close up for the spectators and this the lens did not get close enough to recognize the players.
GHULAMCHHACHHAR –
I have tried alot but so far its great i got crisp pics
riley –
amazing lens, does just as good as a g-master for way lower price
Lmoua –
THIS IS MY GO TO LENS! It took beautiful versatile shots for me during a wedding i did for a good friend! I LOVE HOW LIGHT WEIGHT is!
Unknown –
Awesome upgrade. Gives me the ability to capture my creativity.
DavidC –
does the job, has good range and good for videoing!
CameronC –
Excellent for the price. I replaced my Sony 70-200mm GMaster gen 1 with this. Image sharpness is not quite as good across the whole shot and focus misses a little more than the Gen 1 Sony when shooting high FPS but I bought it for the weight difference. I use my cameras for backpacking/hunting and due to the weight of the Sony, I would leave it at home or at camp most of the time. This Tamron comes with me in the bag every time now due to being so much lighter. Video shooting focus has always been fast and accurate. Great for the money. The Sony Gen 2 is a much nicer lens and better in almost all aspects, but for the price and how I use my lenses, this one is more bang for your buck.
KamP –
Excellent lense ! Very lightweight and easy to travel with. Zoom maybe a little stiff
JustinA –
Amazing, really stepped my game up when it comes to both photos and videos.
TarekJ –
Excellent results but I’m looking for Tamron 70-180 G2
PaulB –
Great product delivery’s great quality pictures. Perfect for my sports len. Thinking of purchasing another lens from This brand. I only have Sony G Master lens. So this product was my first different brand and it works great so far..
