Mike –
I’m so excited to have got this!
I tried to buy this the moment it came out – but they were sold out for what seemed like forever!
I haven’t been able to take many pictures with it just yet but my first impressions.
Whoa. This thing is BIG.
It’s also quite heavy.
It feels solid though – and knowing that Tamron will give me a 6 year warranty and cleaning this also made the purchase a lot easier to make.
I have the Tamron 70-180mm and I’m incredibly impressed on the quality images it can produce – I similarly feel this will do the same and I’m so excited to take it out and shoot with it.

Good value and very compact compare to its peer, only trade off is aperture. A sensible first lens for someone who is new to telephoto.

Great compact ultra zoom lens! Some say it is too heavy but that is all relative. Take this lens in a for hand held shots all the time with no trouble. Was between this and the Sony 200-600. No regrets. Tamron for the win.

I love this lens. I was deciding between this and the Sony 200-600, and I think I made the right decision for my needs. Size and weight were significant factors in my decision. Yes, the Sony outperforms this lens and gives you the option of using a teleconverter, but I still feel that this lens performs very well.

This is a fantastic lens. I use it with an A7R2 and marries perfectly to the high megapixel count. Cloudy days can bring complications, unless your comfortable with high ISO noise. I’m very satisfied with its performance. Being able to lock the lens at a specific focal length is an amazing feature.

Awesome lense for the price paid. Loved it. Would recommend to anyone.

Great lens, offers a great telephoto range and sharp image quality. It is a heavy lens and I use it on my a6600, so if you’re using the a6 line you’ll definitely want to ensure you’re supporting the lens properly. The vibration control switches are a great feature and help loads when using at the full 500mm range and manual focusing. Perfect for anybody doing wildlife, moon, and sports (from a distance)

This is an outstanding lens, with a good and quikc autofocus and sharp images. However, I did find it a bit on the heavy side for its compact size. Also, for my primary use, which is raptor and eagle photography, I found the focal length to still be a bit too short at only 500mm. I reluctanlty returned the lnes and decided to bite the bullet, squeeze my wallet and get the Sony 200-600mm instead. Again, this decision was strictly based on the focal length difference. The Tamron is much easier to pack, and if you do not need the longer length, it is a fantastic bargain and well wroth the price, if it meets your needs.

Not bad if your a hobbiest taking picture of nature extra length is a benefit. Just want to let you know lens is heavy but the quality is great result. F stop is around 5 so make aure have good light

Great telephoto lens for those looking for portability and value for your Sony E mount products. The only negative compared to the native Sony lenses is the lack of support for the multiplier adapters.
GiovanniM –
Great for sports and landscapes used this mainly for long shots but great portrait lens.
JohnP –
Really nice lens for sports at a very affordable price.
Dwarak –
I just love the panning mode and lens is easy to handle.
SalvadorR –
Amazingly sharp. I’ve used in on a Sony a6400 and a Sony a7iii. Autofocus is fast and the quality build is good. Definitely worth it.

Met my needs, but too heavy for me to use as handheld. Could not steady it sufficiently with a monopod. Will return it, but the problem is my stability. Not a product problem.
