It works well but not for what I needed, the background (bass reduction feature) noise cancellation feature limits its usefulness in recording the neighbors obnoxious bass stereo playing at night time.

This recorder works perfectly. It is extremely user friendly and the directions are easy to follow. This is a much better way to keep your notes or thoughts together than using the Notes section on your iPhone. Overall, a great product!

So, I’ve used this for a couple months now. I simply use this for recording thoughts, memos, ideas, etc. that I do not want recorded on my mobile devices. In other words, I haven’t recorded lectures. Pros: Compact design, lightweight, decent recording capture of my voice, fairly easy to record, pause, stop. Cons: fragile! Don’t sit on it or drop it as it will likely break. Not intuitive as in too many buttons to push to retrieve recordings. Definitely cannot operate in the dark or without looking at device without significant memorization of button locations, feel/shape of buttons, etc. It would be a huge improvement if the buttons illuminated (at least the main ones). Finally, while the retractable USB is convenient, it will break at some point. Not a question of if, but when. It’s pretty flimsy. I think it’s an unnecessary feature. Just provide a usb slot with a cord.

You cant really rename the files on the recorder, but you can plug it up to a computer and do that.

The Sony UX Series Digital Voice Recorder is very compact — about the size of a candy bar! By adding a 256GB SanDisk card, you can extend your memory time for voice recordings to over 1,000 hours. Battery time is good, and it is easy and quick to recharge if you have a USB port or adapter plug.
Operation is relatively simple and mainly is limited by the fact that the tiny screen and toggle controls limit the degree of flexibility. The file renaming system is extremely limited, so it is not possible to change the auto-generated filename to a short descriptive name and date. I also haven’t yet figured out how to improve the mic pickup strength. I was conducting interviews but recording strength was not good when the person speaking was more than about two feet away.
I bought this voice recorder because it is one of the most highly rated. If I can figure out the problems that I mention (which may just be user ignorance), then I would rate this recorder as 4 stars.

The lack of case, screen protector, and body protector make this easily marred with no way of preventing it.
My biggest issue is that an afternoon in my jeans pocket rendered the screeen permanently marred with significant scratches. Cleaning it off seemed to make the appearance worse. The outer layer of material on the display is FAR TOO Easily damaged with scratches and swirl marks.

Compact, discreet and light. I still have not explored all the features, but this is a voice recorder that you hit the jackpot. I really love that the USB connector is built in the recorder. The voice recorder is great easy to use great quality on voice for playback. The only negative of this voice recorder is that is does not have a very high playback volume it sounds very low. Other than that it is great for a low budget project. For higher end projects I would chose a better quality.

I really liked this one and I have tried quite a few before this that claimed to have all the fancy speakers and settings. This one in particular allows you to not only choose a room setting but goes further to get JUST the right recording environment to give you the best sound. As for the quality, id give it 4 out of 5 stars but i’m super picky when it comes to audio quality. This one had the best noise canceling than any of the others I’ve tried and returned.Id buy again for sure.
