I bought this receiver about a month ago. I appreciate its excellent sound quality and how easy it was to set up. I was tempted by the next model up (the STRDH790), but I couldn’t justify another $100 for features I don’t need right now. This receiver was the right balance between price and features.

Ease of us. Use for music primarily from phone via bluetooth and sound is really good. have a pair of B&W 603 s2 towers. (Con) No real eq just preset sound enhancements. other than that overall good unit. Get decent speakers, that makes the difference. Can’t beat price and has plenty of power. Just not sure if it has built in crossover eq filtering if rear and center speakers are to be connected.

I bought this to replace a seventeen year old Insignia receiver so I’d get HDMI ARC connectivity and Bluetooth. The first pleasant experience was I ordered in on a Friday, for Sunday delivery and on Saturday I got an email saying it would be delivered that day, which it was.
I followed the setup instructions, connecting five speakers and two Sony sub woofers I had recently bought. Setup was super easy. Ran through the various functions and it all worked well right out of the box. All in all I’m very pleased. I’d highly RECOMMEND this item.

Good receiver with lots of power, remote easy to use

Easy to set up, affordable option for a movie theater sound system, powerful volume for music, easy to connect you phone to heare music.

Bought this to power the ceiling mounted speakers that were installed in the house we recently purchased. I didn’t want anything too elaborate as the only thing we’ll use it for is sound for our family room TV. I initially had some minor problems getting it set up, it wanted to turn the TV back on after I’d turn it off. I then carefully re-read the instructions provided and went online for additional information. Everything now works as I desired. I wish that the additional information was provided with the instruction manual, but that’s how most things are done nowadays.

Awesome receiver on a budget. I like the features, only with it had a pre or an aux out. Paired with a set of Polk xt20 bookshelf speakers. Sounds great.
Mark –
It works great love the blue tooth remote works for me and the power good enough

Wonderful Surround Sound. Works great A+++++++++++

In consultation with Sony support, did everything right in setting up HDMI (2.0+) arc connections to cable/receiver/TV, and had a lot of trouble getting the dialog to come in right, except on very narrow setting options – often needing changing when streaming vs cable, etc
then – the Sony would not keep those settings – and would need to update again
Return product and went with my older Yamaha (better quality I think) and just using the digital audio return – without the HDMI processing messing with the dialog sound.

Excellent piece of equipment but it is not compatible w/Directv remote
Virtualvidiot –
Good sound at a good price. Easy to setup. Happy with the quality.

I am still learning about my new receiver. This is a replacement for my 30 year old unit. So far so good. My main interest is in using it for surround sound while watching movies and tv. I am very pleased so far. Another thing I am enjoying is being able to use my phone via blue tooth to listen to music. .I think that is solid for the $249 I paid on sale.

It has all the bells and whistles. Everything I need to be hooked up.
BenjaminS –
Great receiver at a great price. Replaced a 7.1 Yamaha that was about 12 years old. I was worried about the musicality of the sound and this unit does not disappoint. Easy to set up, HDMI ARC works well and the Bluetooth feature is solid.

fredicus –
Nice receiver and it sounds great! Very easy to set up.
PopsFromPA –
Nice model, but feel it should have internet connectivity to play server media and update internal firmware. Sounds good; readily recognized by new Sony Bravia 65″ tv.
CynthiaW –
It was annoying to set up but now works really good
Alan –
Easy to set up on smart tv. Like the different sound modes.
JeriD –
Sound is amazing! The sound is amazingly clear. Power surge damaged my old Sony receiver which I was very happy with, but this sound is on a whole other level.

Sound quality is adequate Bought to replace an Onkyo receiver that was 22 years old. The onkyo was louder had more options than the Sony However it was also a more expensive option even 22 years ago So ultimately it was like comparing apples to oranges. The onkyo had the option to play all channels stereo so when listening to music via streaming or you tube it was quite a bit louder and still clear with Polk Audio speakers This receiver is easily 10-15 decibels lower. It does reproduce sounds accurately. Just not to the degree the more expensive Onkyo achieved. That being said I would recommend on its value.
Rich –
Easy to use and connect. A little annoying that I have to keep hitting button to select channel I want rather then just connecting with previous connection without re clicking.
Bestbuy –
Receiver is very heavy – difficult to install due to being front heavy
TheaterJunkie –
A late review for an open box buy. This thing is awesome, reliable and trouble free. The setup consists of all normal components except the two subwoofer preouts are used to power four tactile transducers. Even with small amplifiers the results are intense. Home theater has never been more enjoyable.
By now, I’m sure there is a newer version but I suspect it will be a quality product too.

GTRPLYR1 –
Home Theater on a budget. Sony has been making quality products for a long time. This is no different. Plenty of connectivity, power and ease of set up and use. No its not going to satisfy any audiophile but thats ok. This will do a great job for everyone else.
Happyhomelife –
Works perfectly for what we needed
Simple set up to our tv and our speaker’s
Unknown –
it was what I was looking for to replace older Sony unit your tech was very helpful. I liked it so much I bought second one for my park model camper
kicker –
This had some nice settings and functions but because I could get no bass audio out of it I returned it. I went through the entire troubleshooting steps for the bass and the speaker was working but there was no signal going to the speaker even on the set-up functions. I don’t know if that meant it was a fault of the receiver with no output or some impedance issue with the speaker. However another brand of receiver did work with that same speaker so I have to assume it was something wrong with the receiver.

Every time I go into Best Buy, I get outstanding service. I went, but it doesn’t always have what I’m looking for, but the sales rep always directs me online and helps me purchase it on bestbuy.com. Thank you for being my electronic store.
