    Got this lens about a year and a half ago. It has become my go-to lens for wildlife that isn’t heavy. I even take it to disney’s animal kingdom and get great shots.

    I love the range of distance with this lens. It gets me close enough to the animals, birds and people I’m taking photos of, plus the apperature can be adjusted to the right amounts of blur or clarity i need.

    The Sony FE 70-300 mm lens is a great all around lens for relatively near and far distances. Although not a true macro or longer telephoto lens, it captures great images in a variety of situations. For example, I change lenses a lot less when photographing insects and birds. Additionally, it provides the space between the camera and the more skittish subjects (nature moves – a lot).
    There are good online reviews which provide great info and spec details to help you decide if the Sony FE 70-300 mm lens meets your needs.
    I did hesitate at spending over $1,000 for a lens, but I find this lens worth the cost.

    Great 70-300 zoom lens, my first with Sony coming over from Canon. As you would expect with this focal length range and glass quality, the lens isn’t light, and I’d like the zoom operation to be a little smoother, but really no complaints.

    Love the lens, it’s focas speed is fast and smooth. Seems to work well in semi-low light. Lens is light weight and voom works smothly. There is a locking feature that will keep the lens from zooming out when walking or hiking.

    I just bought this lens today and it was a little late when I got home to try this out but was very pleased with the lens. I don’t think it’s heavy for the range at all. I do recommend.

    This is currently my favorite lens. I have been able to capture such crisp photos of animals, landscapes, and more. I could not be happier. The only downside is that it is on the heavier/clunkier side, so be careful when setting it up on a tripod.

    I ended up returning this lens after a few days. Its weight, paired with the weight of the camera body made it a hassle to use. There’s no tripod/monopod mount on it to mitigate the weight. I ultimately didn’t think it was worth it for my photography.

    Some trouble with focusing. Not easy to do manually at all and sometimes very frustrating with auto-focus.

    Otherwise, wonderful lens. Creates wonderful pics in sync with the great sensors of the Sony camera.

    I’ll start with I ultimately returned it. Got an amazing deal on a 2.8 so it was the smart thing to do.
    I had it a month and it was a very nice lens. A little soft past 250 but easily corrected in the computer with just a touch of sharpening.
    I suspect Best Buy’s shipping may had had something to do with it. Who ships a 1300 lens in a bubble mailer and then sends a backpack in a fully padded box… I will rail them for this every chance I get 🙂
    So maybe just wait a little longer and pick up in a store to keep one less round of tossing it in and out of trucks.
    .Weight isn’t too bad for what it is and the OSS when using one an IBIS body is unmatched. I miss having the 300mm but my other deal was too good to pass up.
