I really would prefer an 18-210 but they are more expensive. Happy with the price and quality.

I just recently purchased a Sony a5000 with a 16-50mm . This was a great extension to my beginners mirrorless camera
NCabarle3083 –
I had purchased this lense along with Sony A5000 and I was never disappointed. It allows you to take amazing pictures even if there’s a bit of a distance between you and yoursubject.

I am just starting out in the mirrorless camera field. This lens picks up where the kit lens that came with my Sony alpha left off. Great zoom and clear photos during the day..might need a lower apature lens for that lower be light photo

Easy to change. Lightweight. Great option for traveling. Took great images as well.

This lense came in a bundle with my Sony A6000. This takes incredible close up photos or scenic photos. Definitely recommend in the starter package of your Sony a6000. Easy to use and swap out when needed between lenses

OMG this makes taking pictures so much better. What an awesome lense to zoom in on the things you want in your picture. Must have for your Sony Alpha 5100.

I was hesitant in buying this telephoto lens as it was for my daughter’s camera that I was “borrowing” for a trip to Siberia. My own camera (a different brand was being repaired and would not be completed in time.I checked out the reviews and was pleasantly surprised by the price. The telephoto lens for my own was 3X the cost. It is simple to attach and detach, even when you are in brutal environments, which was a real benefit for me. The pictures looked incredible and crisp. I liked it so much that I bought the same camera for myself.

Easy to use & seems to be a good telephoto lens for beginners as I’m not very experienced but takes adequate pictures of the stage area during performances.

I purchased this lens as part of a package deal when I bought my Sony a6000 camera. It has some limitations (low light, not tack sharp), but overall was a great lens to begin shooting with. I paired it with an Olympus 1.7x teleconverter, which increased the zoom capabilities, and also seemed to improve the image quality (sharpness and compression). I’ve been very pleased with the performance of this combination.

When paired with a6000
You can get creative and have some good results.

I have a Sony a6500 camera but I only have the included 16-50 mm kit lens. It has served me well for various outings but I wanted something that would give me zooming capabilities without breaking the bank. Although this is another kit lens, Sony did a good job. It’s compact, telescopic, and has little distortion around the edges. I wish that the lens opened up a bit more but zoom lenses with lower f-stops cost 5X more than this.
The build quality is good, the connectors and mount are metal, the outer body is metal, but the inner lens is plastic. Again, for the price, this is all expected. I did not expect the lens to perform up there with a Sony’s 18-105 mm G lens (f/4.0). The reviews for both lenses put them pretty equal, even when going almost full zoom on the G lens and still maintaining the f/4.0, the 55-210 lens is pretty good.
I have taken some handheld low-light shots, action shots, scenery, and building skyline pictures with this lens and they all come out clear with little distortion around the edges (nothing that Adobe Lightroom doesn’t automatically correct for). For an entry-level lens at a low price, this one can’t be beat. Sony really does a good job with their cameras and lenses, I’m glad I switched to their mirrorless range as it makes taking my camera places less of a hassle. A small bag is enough to hold three lenses, the camera, two batteries, a charger, flash, an action tripod, lens cleaning tools, and a few memory cards.
I just wish that Sony’s premium lenses were lower in cost to compete with the likes of Nikon and Cannon. But I do recommend this lens for anyone who wants a solid zoom option without breaking the bank while still providing good quality. It isn’t the most premium built lens and the opening is small but it’s also compact and hasn’t let me down yet. Just keep your expectations in check.

nunzie –

Ellie –
Great for beginner photographers. I bought for my Sony a6000
Luke –
I bought the a6000 to compare with both the Nikon D3400 and the Canon SL2. I was only slightly impressed with the 16-50 kit lens so I added this lens to compare with the Nikon 70-300 and the Canon 75-300 zoom lenses. And, although it’s only 210, it compares quite favorably with the other 2 lenses at the same focal length. I’ve taken many “keeper” pictures and expect to continue to get many more.

Good overall buy. Would buy again if needed. Great addition

bought this to augment my Sony Nex’s standard lens. Great for zoom shots. Took it to the Grand Canyon and grabbed some great shots. Not too heavy, so easy to carry along if you find yourself switching lenses.

I bought this when I bought a new camera. Was taking a trip to Europe and wanted to have a good camera to capture those memories. This served as an excellent addition to us coming home with memories we will have forever.
Drw74 –
Incredible zoom. Great additional to.my camera!! Cant wait to gain more experience with shooting pictures
photobee –
Really happy with this purchase – I typically shoot with my 20-70 shooting predominantly portraiture and street at with my Sony R7II, but this lens had allowed more flexibility for long range shots. No issues with any auto settings as far as sharpness goes, but have found it is optimal at the center of it’s range. Doesn’t have any metering or sharpness issues while using my pro Gobe filters either.
Definitely a great value for it’s pricepoint – additional range in a lightweight and compact form.
K8TE –
I have the mirorless emount sony alpha series and this was a great addition to the collection. Easy twist on application and even came with the lense hood.
Caro –
210 is enough to take a far picture for the moon and zoom in other every day stuff. Love the silver and vintage looking. I got it with the combo of the camera and saved some $$$$
Mitch –
If you are looking to shoot sports or nature this is the lens for you. Great long range shooting for kids sports games or animals from a distance. Very sharp and clear images.

Been wanting this lens for 6 years and finally broke down and bought it – very worth it… just have to get used to it especially when taking up close pictures it looks “zoomed in” so need to get comfortable with it but overall it takes great pictures!

Sony – 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 Telephoto Lens for Most Alpha E-Mount Cameras – Silver
Groovybrian –
This is a great starting lens for your Sony Mirrorless camera. I use it with the a6000 and it works great. The Optical Image Stabilization really smooths out long range photos when you are holding the camera in your hands. It’s about a 75-300mm equivalent lens since this is not a full frame sensor in the A6000. I’ve even used it with the clear zoom to double the range. It worked great at concerts where I can get in close to the singer. The lens comes with a hood if you are using it in the bright sun. It’s not a very fast lens, but then again it’s only about $300. You will be spending a lot more if you want something with a larger aperture. I have this, the 16-50mm kit lens and picked up a 35mm f/1.8 lens for low light photos without a flash.

Great lens for daily use that does not require too much technicality…. very easy to use…
