I am a big samsung fan when it comes to electronics for the living area. My first sound bar was HW Q950A, it was sufficiently powerful for 11.1.4 ATMOS Surround sound but glitchy especially when it came to maintaining connectivity with the rear speakers. Now the HW Q990C is two generations after and to me it’s powerful ( especially thumpy bass and immersive ATMOS Surround Sound among other features) , my only complaint is short power cords especially for the rear speakers it becomes annoying when you are installing the speakers on a speaker stands.

I’ve been using soundbars for many years. A couple years back, I bought the JBL 9.1 system. It blew me away, especially the subwoofer, but I constantly had troubles with it. I wanted to love it, but after replacing the rear speakers 4 times and the whole system 3 times, I sent it back one last time for a full refund. I upgraded to the Q950a knowing it was a better system, but had a mediocre sub. Placing the sub directly behind my couch where I sit helped me forget how pathetic it was and I enjoyed the overall system.
Fast forward to this holiday season, I got a bonus I wasn’t expecting and decided to treat myself. It was either get a new TV or a soundbar. Both are good (Hisense u8g with Samsung Q950a) budget pieces of tech, but both have their downfalls that I always see/hear. It didn’t take long to decide the soundbar was the bigger issue, mainly because of the lackluster sub performance. I wanted bass I could feel. So I did my usual thing and researched and read all the reviews and basically studied all of the current premium soundbar systems and decided the Q990c would fit me best. I hoped beyond hope that it was worth the upgrade, especially having never actually heard the system before purchasing. If I didn’t like it, I’d return it.
Well, I’ve still got it and I LOVE it! It’s head and shoulders worth upgrading over the Q950a! The sub is actually strong and accurate. It’s not overpowering, but it’s not underpowered either (for my liking anyways, YMMV). AND, I’ve got the sub ACROSS THE ROOM instead of sitting right on top of it, and I can still feel it! It fills the room with bass that I did not have before! It’s *almost* comparable to the JBL sub.
As for the rest of the system, it is even louder and more clear than the Q950a. It’s not just a sub upgrade, it’s a complete overhaul. The whole system sounds amazing! I love the change from cloth and that they moved the display to the front. It sounds great no matter what’s on the tv…sports, ps5 or xbox one x, streaming movies and music…it handles it all with ease and sounds phenomenal.
I can’t say enough how much I enjoy this system and how happy I am with it.

So to preface, i have had the HW Q750B since earlier this year. I loved it and was blwin away for the sound it gave for the price. I believe i paid $650 for it or so. But i felt with my home theatre i building in my basement, it wasnt enough since the room was so large. I then decided to take a gamble on the highest tiered model available which was the 990C and let me tell you, I was completely floored by the power of that thing. The dolby atmos test alone had my wife and friend looking around the room for ceiling and wall speakers and were shocked when I said i did not insyall any. Overall, if you want a theatre sound without having building a custom set up for thousands, this is the way to go. Bonus if it can synce with a samsun tv, it just makes the use that much eaiser.

Love, love, love this sound bar!. We’ve always had a surround sound speakers. I was a little worried that this would not provide enough ‘back’ sound since we always had a 5 speaker surround before. But believe me, this actually provides better sound than any of my previous. I also like that it is wireless on the back speakers. Just plug into electricity and that’s it. Simple set-up, just follow the directions on connections. It’s a little pricey, but well worth it! Highly recommend!

The good, bad and ugly of this very expensive toy. I took a few months to actually buy this top line soundbar and am glad I bought it. I also bought the Samsung S95C OLED TV within that timeframe after returning the S90C model to upgrade. After originally purchasing the S90C and a nice Sonos soundbar for it I realized the hard way that only a Samsung soundbar would actually show a volume level number like a “6” or “8” on the tv when adjusting my audio volume level so I returned the Sonos for a cheaper Samsung Soundbar. I have grandkids that like to watch tv and I live in a condo with neighbors both above and below me, the max sound volume level being displayed on the tv is important. I tell them to never go over a level 10 with the volume so my neighbors won’t be disturbed. Well I realized the cheaper soundbars sound absolutely horrible and tinny. I took a few back and kept upgrading within the Samsung line of soundbars. Finally after the HW-Q800C was less than impressive I just bit the bullet a bought the Q990C for $1400 as it was $500 off. I am finally happy with the audio quality for my new setup. The real bad part is Samsung SmartThings App that lets me control the soundbar with many things I could not do without the app. When it stays online it’s great. But it goes offline almost daily and I am sick of trying to get it back online so I am probably not going to try when it goes offline again. Samsung has so many good things but this one seemingly little issue would make me rethink Samsung as a brand to go back to. That’s a decision for the future but for now my system is working and sounding perfect.

I received bought this q990c soundbar and was extremely excited to see what this baby can do!
Unfortunately, when I opened the box i found out i was missing a power cable, the remote and and wall mount brackets!! I called the 1-800 number for best by and they informed me that my local best buy had a open box excellent codition unit as well. So i packed up everything and took it back to the store.
When i got to the store they told me that they couldn’t exchange it for me because the price was $300 dollars more! Keep in mind i just received the package the night before! So they gave me the parts out of the one they had and sent me home with the same soundbar.
I hooked up the soundbar and connected it to the smartthings app. Then to my surprise the soundbar comes up as the q90b!!! I thought it has to be some sort of app error so I checked the model on the bottom of the sound bar. And it says HQ990B!!!!!! SO MAD!!!! I will change this review if my problem gets solved!!!

In July 2022, I acquired a Samsung 85” Class QN90B Neo QLED 4K Smart Tizen TV and had Geek Squad techs mount it in my high-rise condo using a Sanus wall mount. Pleased with the TV, I later purchased and installed a Mounting Dream sound bar mount with a scissor-type mechanism, also done by Geek Squad. Opting for higher rear speakers due to furniture obstructions, I got VideoSecu mounts that extend to 47”. Delighted with the sound quality, I positioned the rear speakers diagonally, following the advice of Best Buy techs regarding LEFT and RIGHT markings.
The audio system comes with a separate remote, and after initial setup, you can likely use your standard TV remote.
The subwoofer’s placement is a matter of personal preference—I opted for a few inches away from the wall with the larger speaker hole facing the listener for direct impact.
Speaker settings are controlled via remote, with more specific settings visible on the sound bar’s scrolling text. Although I would prefer onscreen visibility for these specifics, general sound settings can be adjusted onscreen.
The eARC audio setting, in my experience, provides clearer and crisper sound compared to the ARC setting. Cranking the subwoofer to max +6 settings enhanced my Jazz listening experience on Spotify.
Overall, investing in these audio upgrades has been the best sanity-restoring decision since purchasing the TV last year.

This soundbar does not disappoint. Given my limited space, this is was a good alternative to a dedicated AVR and speaker system. The system gets plenty loud and does indeed immerse you in the action. I drove a significantly long distance to the Burllington, MA Best Buy store to purchase an open box item labelled as “excellent” condition. Their description online states “looks brand new…contains all original parts/accessories.” After arriving home I noticed the product had food in all the speaker grills and scratches (that I could not remove) in the sub. I then noticed that the soundbar was last years model (was supposed to be model: 990c in the box (it is 990b as shown in the photo). I returned it at the nearest best buy at the time, but was told I should go back to the original store to receive better compensation. I wasn’t going to make the drive again so I simply returned it. I attempted several times to contact corporate to settle the matter, but was unsuccessful. The call center kept telling me I needed to drive back to the original store (which I refused as it was too far). I’m looking for compensation for my time, gas, and inconvenience from Best Buy incorrectly advertising their product (and also having the components from different model years).

Sounds great. The atmos surround is awesome. I have a slightly tapered cathedral ceiling and it doesn’t seem to affect the vertical sound. I would definitely recommend this speaker. This soundbar is definitely capable of being loud. I have never played it over 50 and we normally only have the volume on 25. The price is definitely a little steep but when compared to other speakers and systems it’s comparable.
