Heading on a hiking trip and I wanted a tripod, handgrip, and microphone setup that I could take with. The RODE Vlogger kit looks like it fit the bill.
First Impressions: WOW! Quality at its finest. The Materials are all solid and made from metal or high grade plastic. I’m already envisioning all the other ways I’ll be able to use the mount in my home office.
Assembly: Putting the pieces together is very intuitive and the adjustment wheels were very solid. I have no concerns that anything will slip or become misaligned when tightened.
Lightning Connector on Mic: I wish there was a way to extend the lightning port at the bottom or that they included an adapter. I’m going hiking…on rocks. Their teaser video shows a dude using this while hiking…on rocks. The iPhone 12 phone cases generally cover the bottom of the phone which means that I’ll need to either carve out a notch in a phone case, or use the microphone on a naked phone. If you’re like me and prefer a phone case I would recommend going for the universal vlogger kit that puts the mic on the top mount. Certainly not enough for me to deduct a star. This kit is AWESOME!

My son is very much into making movies and we have been looking for a way to help him use his ipod to get better results. This kit was perfect it helped him get better audio and lighting. and the grip was great.
he was able to set up his Ipod with the grip and start getting better shots. I could see how someone using this to make vlogs or videos would really help them.
I think the Kit is great and I highly recommend it

Working out In The gym trying to record workout sessions on your phone alone is hard!
But with the RODE vlogger kit it made it so much simpler! It’s professional quality audio capture and lighting was perfection!
I was seriously impressed how it was able to pick up my voice over all the gym noise and dull them out and out my voice front an center!
I was surprised by how lightweight everything was- it also didn’t drain the battery as expected.
If you are looking for high quality then you know ROdE is the leader in audio field! Highly recommend!

The Rode Vlogger Kit iOS Edition comes with a VideoMic Me-L mic, WS9 windshield, smart grip phone holder, mini tripod, and a rechargeable LED light with charge cable. The kit has all that you would need to get started vlogging. The phone holder is aluminum and well made. It has a screw to tighten the clamp on the phone. It also has rubber pads on the parts that touch the phone so you won’t scratch the phone and it gives the holder a better grip. A cold shoe mount is on the top of the holder and it has one 1/4″ mount point on each side if you need to mount something else to the clamp. The light is lightweight, but of solid construction. A single button on the top of the cube light lets you cycle through all of the brightness settings. According to Rode, it can run for up to an hour or more on a single charge. Even on the lowest setting, the light made a tremendous difference for video on my iPhone 12 Pro Max in medium to low light situations. The tripod is light plastic but strong. The microphone sound quality is superb. I was surprised given how small the mic is, but the quality is what I have come to expect from Rode microphones. The Vlogger Kit has everything in one convenient package. If you are considering vlogging with your iPhone, this kit is a great option for you. So far I’m very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone who wants to start vlogging.

If you’re just getting into vlogging, this RØDE kit is an excellent starter package. All the parts are high quality and sturdy, giving you confidence that your phone, light cube and microphone will stay put while you’re recording. I have a few nits with the equipment, making this really 4.5 stars instead of 5.
• The iOS kit’s microphone plugs directly into the lightning port of the iPhone. If you use a case for your iPhone, it could hamper a good connection. It would have been nice if the microphone had a cable instead. The good news is once you get the mic into the port, its design grips the phone and will not come loose easily. Also, though the mic and dead cat wind filter look large, the camera lens will not see the microphone in the frame.
• The light cube has 4 brightness settings instead of a dial for infinite variations. The lowest setting is still quite bright. The cube has a built-in battery that’s recharged via its USB-C port (cable included).
• The light also has 7 colored filters plus a diffuser. It was a little tricky inserting the filter, but it stays in place once done. There’s also room to stack a couple filters, which is nice because you’d probably want the diffuser on all the time anyway.
• The tripod is not extendable at all. It’s really meant to be hand held. It can be used on a table top, but the bottom of the legs don’t have rubber pads to help grip it into variable positions. If used on a table top, the most stable position is legs fully widened.
These are relatively minor gripes compared to the excellent quality of the package. I highly recommend this kit if you’re getting stated in vlogging.

This product was sent to me for the purpose of this review. The views and opinions expressed are my own and are in no way influenced by Rode or BestBuy.
I received this kit today and wanted to see exactly what the capabilities were. The first thing I noticed is was the overall quality of the items included, from the tripod to the light diffusion everything seems of high quality.
This make making videos easy with an iPhone. No need for an expensive camera, lens, mic, and tripod. The kit is simple and easy to use and comes with everything and more to create high quality videos.
The microLED light comes with several colored filters that will help set the mood of your video. They easily slip into the diffuser that attaches to the front of the light. The light itself is very intense for such a small light and has four power levels. This little light also packs quite the punch. The lowest setting is bright for most situations and for getting rid of shadows on the users face. On the highest setting it is extremely bright and almost lights up a small room. Pretty sure this would be good to light up your face with a sunset behind you in a video.
The microphone that comes with this kit is only for the iPhone as it plugs into the phone via a lightning connector. However this mic cannot be used with the MagSafe case. I even tried to trim out some of the material at the lightning port to allow it to plug in. Your best bet is to remove any case that you have when using the mic. Also included is a windshield to help on those breezy days to keep wind noise out of the audio.
The SmartGrip is a phone holder that mounts to the tripod and allows you to keep the case on and accepts the iPhone 12 pro Max, so it will work with any iPhone that utilizes a lightning port. It has rubber material on the top and bottom of the clamping jaws to securely hold the phone in place. The grip is tapped for standard ¼-20 threads and will fit all other tripods on the market. The tripod itself is a tabletop sized tripod and the legs fold to make a handle for handheld vlogging. It is very comfortable to hold for extended periods of time.
Overall for the price, this kit is well worth the money for someone looking to get into vlogging, making videos of family vacations, or making short films. I would recommend it over the larger more expensive options to start with and who knows, this may be all you will ever need.

The Røde iOS Edition Vlogger Kit is a great addition to any iPhone users video arsenal. The kit includes everything you need to create high quality, professional looking videos::
1x VideoMic Me-L Microphone
1x Rubber Clip (pre installed on the microphone)
1x WS9 Windshield
1x Smartgrip
1x Tripod 2
1x MicroLED On-Camera Light
1x Clip-On Diffuser
8x Colored Filters
1x USB Charging Cable
The kit is compatible with iPhone/iPod touch 6th Generation up to the iPhone 12 range, with the lightning port.
Set up is incredibly easy, attach the iPhone clip to the tripod, charge and attach the LED light to the top of the iPhone mount, and plug in the microphone to the bottom of your iPhone and you are up and running. The LED light is bright, it has 4 light settings, long press the button on top to turn on and off, short press to switch between the light intensity settings. There is a light diffuser case and 8 different gels that you can use with it, meaning that the light can not only be used on top of the camera to light you/your subject, but you can also place colored gels on the LED light and use it as ambient lighting for a scene you are shooting. The light provides a nice full cast on the face, giving an even light without being to harsh, but I do wish it’s angle could be adjustable. The 8 light gels come in their own little carry case so they remain clean and undamaged. The charge of the LED light lasts for approximately 1 hour before needing to be recharged again.
The VideoMic Me-L is a nice, compact, direct connect, directional microphone that has a great sound field pick-up, that is only enhanced by adding the WS9 Windshield. This eliminated almost all background noise and interference and provided crisp, clear, intentional sound, helping make videos feel a lot more professionally finished. I did have an issue accessing the on-screen video button with the windshield on, but this can be overcome by using the volume up button on the iPhone (12 Pro in my case) to start and stop your video. You do need to remove your case from your phone in order to use the microphone in the lightning port.
The iPhone clip is aluminum, with a spring actuator to keep it open as you place your phone in there, a nice touch, makes it easier to position the iPhone in the cradle. The handle of the tripod is heavy duty plastic/rubber and has a gimble on top to enable you to get the iPhone at just the right angle for your video. The handle has 3 legs on it to provide a stable base for the camera to rest on, and adjust as needed. There are not adjustable legs in themselves, they do not extent, retract or bend into other settings.
Overall, very happy with the Røde Vlogger Kit for iPhone, it’s elevated my content, giving a much more professional look and feel to it. If I were to change anything about it, I would like for the mount on top of the iPhone holder to have a small gimble on it so that you can rotate the LED up or down, away from the subject slightly, it would be nice if the handle could extend a little to give a little more versatility, and if the windshield was a little more sculpted to allow better access to the on-screen recording button, but again, these are ‘nice-to-have’s’ on an already great product.

If you ever tried to vlog or do a livestream on YouTube or Instagram – you know that your phone is an awesome all inclusive device to do it. It has a great camera and a very decent microphone, but you have to find a way to hold it real steady, shield from wind (to avoid wind noise) and make sure you are not in the dark or not against the bright light source behind you.
RODE Vlogger Kit is a perfect solution for all these problems!
It comes as 3 major parts:
Tripod – which is adjustable for 2 different height settings (by twisting the plastic ring just above the legs) or can be used as a handle with all 3 legs folded. It comes with a ball mount already attached, however it’s easily removable and if you like – you can add an extension rod between the tripod and a ball mount (for example Invisible Selfie Stick works great) to extend the height. Phone mounting bracket is equipped with rubber pads to hold your phone gently but firmly in place, just tighten the screw and your phone is not going nowhere even if you shake or bump ip pretty hard. Ball mount allows for pretty much any angle or even a portrait mode.
Top of the phone holder comes equipped with a cold shoe mount for a light and conveniently there is a little light cube in the kit! It’s amazingly bright for it’s size and light output can be adjusted in 4 steps (however it does not remember previous setting and always starts with the dimmest one) 60/160/230/300 lumens. Not only this light comes with a diffusor, but also with 8 colored gel filters to change the light color (or match ambient light temperature for a correct white balance for example).
And of course – microphone. It’s a cardioid pattern directional microphone capable of picking up frequencies from 20Hz to 20kHz, powered by the Lightning port from your device and also features 3.5mm jack for headphones. Noise rejection from off-axis makes your recordings sound professional (no “all around noise” as if you would used an internal phone microphone) and almost eliminates wind noise with included wind filter (aka dead cat). The only problem I had with the mic is that my phone’s Lightning port is kinda deep when I use phone case, so I had to find a little Lightning port extension. Mic needs to be unplugged and re-plugged if you would like to change it’s direction.
Overall – it’s all you need to start vlogging/streaming with your phone, it’s lightweight enough to take it anywhere and makes it so much easier and safer (it’s less likely that you drop your phone!).

This vlogging kit is actually pretty cool. I got it for my son who does so much online and it did not disappoint – he said it made it much easier and even more interesting as it opened up more options. The tripod is very easy to set up and is high quality material. The microphone has excellent sound and the wind shield is awesome to have because it allows a fan to continue to run in the background if indoors, and it blocks out a lot of wind disturbance if outside. It took a few tries with the camera filters but even those are cool to have because they provide different options for how videos will look, especially when lighting presents a challenge. Would definitely recommend to a friend .

Love this Vlog Kit! I am not a professional videographer, but I do record my vacations and my trips and make short films using iMovie. I usually record with my GoPro 9, my iPhone and my Sony A6600. The GoPro and and iPhone already have stabilization, but what they don’t have is great lighting and a great microphone. I am happy to confirm that I am able to use both the light and the microphone (with an adapter) with my GoPro. This has brought some better quality to my short films/videos, and that alone makes this vlog kit worth it! Thank you Rode for this kit! It’s compact, well-built, and does what it’s supposed to do!

This kit was perfect to start my YouTube channel!! Very high quiality!! 10/10
Kelly –
Build quality of the mic and phone bracket is great but the sound volume recorded is too low. As the box says it does reduce background noise.
BigBruce –
The only thing that sucks is that the mic lightning plug was so short I have to take off the iPhone case just to use it
Soweo –
Everything seemed great, but the iOS Lightning plug would not fit on my phone with my phone case on – Unfortunately, I don’t want to take off the case every single time to use this, so I returned it to get the Rode Vlogger Universal kit instead.
Arisa –
Bought this to simply try it out and have an easier audio set up than a full boom system for on-the-go. Audio is very crisp, but the tripod is a little finicky. It has to be on a surface that will catch with the rubber edges, otherwise it just slides down…
Also- you can only plug in the mic without a phone case on, so that’s a little unfortunate..

This product has really helped a lot! Highly recommended for anybody who vlogs!

I honestly have no idea how this kit is as cheap as it is. I have used this thing daily sense i bought it and I am continually blown away. First the tripod itself is extremely solid and well built. the legs feel plastic but the rest of the construction is metal and solid. The included light is very heavy duty, of good quality, and again is solidly built. The microphone also is of amazing quality, both in terms of the audio you can record with it but the build quality as well. The only issue that I have with the mic is there is really no way to use it with a case, at least not one that I have tried and I have now bought 4 different ones with no luck. The filters are kinda hard to use at times, especially in low light or if there is even a slight breeze so beware of that, but that has nothing to do with Rode at all. Just a minor inconvenience that I have found. If you do any kind of video work or content creation and you have been entertaining the idea of getting this, stop weighing the pros and cons and just get it. I very seriously doubt that you will be disappointed, especially if you are just starting out.
RG21 –
So far so good. Comes with everything I needed. Feels like good quality
BUYITNOW –
The mic already broke. The light does not screw in tight enough to avoid rattling sounds and the tripod stand does not help with extending for height. It doesn’t extend at all it’s only to be held.
Vlogger –
Overall quality of the product was average at best. Ended up not using the microphone and light from the package.
mikeyD –

You need to make it clear to customers that the mic interface is for older versions of the iPhone.

This is a perfect little kit to capture mobile video on the go.

I wanted a complete kit that had the essentials. This vlogger kit not only has the essentials, but it includes a great mic, windscreen, light with filters and a sturdy tripod. The tripod closes up and makes a great portable selphie stick. A Great Purchase!
Phonecase –
I like MIST of the dmfeatures, but NOT the way the microphone seats into the I Phone 13… there is a sliding compression feature designed to secure it in place, but does not work well, especially if using a phone case… in fact, the lighting plug actually broke off in my phone, after only a few uses.
Drew –
It’s alright probably should’ve bought individual parts, I am new to this.

Love this kit! The mic is really the best part. Amazing quality for such a little device

Convenient and compact videography kit. Purchased to accommodate iPhone with lightning port.
Fernando –
sometimes when you plug the microphone in to your iphone and record a video or audio, theres a distortion and ruins your content
CosmikDebris –
Works great, gives you everything you need for starting out. Just make sure to get the right kit for your phone or the mic won’t be compatible for you.

My wife and son have started using it to start his YouTube channel.
