  1. JamesW

Perfect for a 2-channel stereo system. Plenty of bass.

  2. CraigK

I am very pleased with the sound output from these speakers. I would buy them again if I needed.

  3. SeanG

These sound amazing on my Onkyo tx-nr6050. The sound quality from them is amazing and they can get rather punchy as well. Feeding each a little over 200watts and they handle it with ease.

  4. Clueless

These are good speakers. The Geek laid them on their side so they would fit on the second shelf of my entertainment stand. The sound is excellent.

  5. BethK

Most excellent for the price. Polk never disappoints! My salesperson was very helpful, although he did make a point of saying that these were “very low-end Polks.” Even my audiophile pals express amazement at the sound that comes out of these little guys. They also arrived very quickly and free shipping was another plus. Thank you!

  6. DinoP

Great speakers, lots of power great sound. And that’s a good price.

  7. DelonG

Used these in 2 separate bars for the jukebox and they sound amazing

  8. MikeW

Rivals bigger speakers. Nice tight bass, clean crisp highs. Can’t beat them for the price.

  9. DaleD

Sweet speakers. They have great bass response, and they are affordably priced.

  10. MichaelS

Very clear and great sounding speakers. Small enough to not be too noticeable when turned off but big enough to be noticed when they are on.

  11. JosephK

Great sound for the size and a good price, they look great as well

  12. RandyW

Purchased these as ‘open box items’ for small turntable rig I was setting up as a present for my daughter’s 14th birthday. Sound is exactly as expected; that it to say, tight, and a perfect match for the Sony table, and dedicated amp. Would definitely purchase again.

  13. Mike

Matching these fantastic speakers with my new LOL Marantz 2220b receiver was a match made in heaven. I was concerned about their size and not having enough bass. I am happythat I don’t need to hook up my powered sub to appreciate Metallica, Zep,Travers just to name a few to fill up the garage with the warm classic sounds from the 70’s .

  14. GMAN

These speakers are awesome. I had Sony’s (really nice speakers to be honest) but I wanted a little more base so I swapped those out with the Polk’s. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Good bass but not overpowering (as would be expected) and nice and clear. I paired them with some Polk T15’s I had and even the wife noticed a difference. Plus I got these as an open box deal (incredible price and listed as excellent condition) and I am extremely happy with them. Give them a shot. You wont be disappointed.

  15. oBlvd

Great speakers for the price, have a lot of bass and sound nice with my Audio Technica!

  16. AH17

Upgraded from powered bookshelf speakers and using a Sony STR-DN1080 to drive. Thought they sounded a bit harsh but placed them closer to the wall and the bass filled in. Now they sound very full and fun. Definitely make sure to play with placement but they hit surprisingly low and fill a small-to-medium apartment space very nicely. Will be keeping these for a long time.

  17. DanielW

These are the best speaker’s for the buck. Can’t go wrong.

  18. JohnR

Using these as side surround sound speakers and the surround back to complete a 7.2 system. Had the xt20 and was too much for back surround and returned for 2 pairs of xt15s around the same cost

  19. ikachupcp

Right off the bat, these speakers sound pretty good—if a little inaccurate.

They definitely have more of a “V” sound signature (heavier in the lows and highs), but not as bad as some more mainstream powered offerings.

The bass is plenty punchy for their size. In my setup I didn’t feel the need to add a subwoofer (open, living room area, semi vaulted ceiling, partial carpet). I tried them with a Polk 10” sub but it just made it muddy—leave the sun for your home theater setup and fly these solo as a 2.0.

The highs are a little less clear at times but present, less accurate and crystalline than say the Sony SSCS5, but still palatable. If too much for you, knock the treble down one notch on your amp/receiver and try again.

Overall these kind of feel like PA speakers a bit. Punchy and loud, decently accurate but clearly emphasizing getting a good amount of sound out into the space. They like to be turned up pretty loud.

I’d be happier with them if the price was lower like it used to be a couple years ago. If you see them on sale they’re a good option.

I purchased a pair of Polk Monitor XT-20 speakers along with a Sony STR-DH590 Receiver for my home office. I will admit that I own a pair of Polk T15 bookshelf speakers, which honestly are terrible. I decided to give Polk another chance when the XT-20 went on sale. I wanted a basic two-channel speaker setup. I was initially concerned because the Polk instruction manual says the impedance of the XT-20 is 4 ohms. The Monitor XT product PDF from the Polk website says, “Compatible with 4- and 8-ohm outputs.” The STR-DH590 receiver manual says the minimum speaker impedance is 6 ohms. Bottom line, the XT-20s work great with this model Sony receiver. The DH590 is plenty powerful, and I don’t see any signs of overheating. The build quality of the XT-20 speakers is good. In terms of size, they are somewhat large, kind of deep for a bookshelf speaker. They just fit on my desk with not much room to spare. They are plain and boxy looking. I do like the removable charcoal cloth Polk grill though. That adds a touch of sophistication. Thanks to the 6.5” woofer, these speakers pump out some serious bass! I personally found that boosting the mids/treble help balance out the bass, and greatly improve the sound clarity, especially of vocals. On my Sony receiver, Music “Enhancer” sound mode was exactly what these speakers needed to accomplish the required equalization. The XT-20 is more than happy to fill the room with a satisfyingly thunderous, symphony-like sound when you crank up the volume. They are perhaps not as well rounded as my Sony Core bookshelf speakers, but the Polks pump put out superior bass and are happier to blow your hair back when you want to turn up the volume. Did Polk redeem themselves with the XT-20? Yes! The XT-20 is a huge improvement over the flat, lifeless T15. I’m really impressed with the Polk Monitor XT-20. It is good choice if you want a powerful bookshelf speaker with a deep, rich sound.

  21. Ralph

Very nice pair of Polk speakers. Very nice quality and super sound for a smaller unit which I wanted. I paired this speaker set with a Harmon Kardon 630 Twin Powered Amplifier/Receiver. Yes that is a 48 year old receiver. Sound was perfect. I played FM Stereo – crisp and clear on these speakers. Also I used IPOD to play via the phono port and again these speakers were perfect for many reasons including the setup I wanted. Beautiful sound.

  22. AnthonyA

Very good sound. Solid build definitely worth the money

  23. SteveD

Very please with Best Buy service. Arrived earlier than expected and I love my speakers!

  24. YWoodAny1Listen2Me

Wanted to upgrade the speakers used with my turntable setup, and room size limits me to bookshelf size. I think a few folks that reviewed may have either not noticed these are 4 ohms or were unsure of the significance of that, understandable when most speakers sold are 8 ohms and it’s a bit of a rabbit hole to go down trying to figure out the difference and impact. Short version is, there’s no technical reason you can’t connect 4 ohm speakers to any modern amp/avr…BUT…results may vary. These have a frequency response that goes down to 38hz, not an easy find for a bookshelf speaker. So I bought these knowing that my Onkyo 7.2 avr might have issues with them even though it worked great for annoying the neighbors driving the more traditional 8 ohm speakers. When I first hooked them up, yes, vast improvement. But I really had to crank it up higher than I was used to to get decent output. And once I got the output I was hoping for, you could cook food if you put a griddle on top of my avr. After a while the sound started distorting as it heated up and I had to lower the volume. If you look in the manual for the average avr you will probably see it can support speakers with an impedance lower than 8 ohms, but will include a * that it’s only for driving 2 speakers, so suround sound enthusiasts need to do their homework. To truly hear the benefits of these Polks they require good sustenance. This was actually the predicament I was hoping for, so I bought the Marantz nr1200, also from Best Buy. It ain’t cheap and it’s only a stereo avr with subwoofer support, not surround, and was more than my Onkyo 7.2. After swapping the avr there aren’t enough words to express how amazing these speakers are. I have a subwoofer attached but the bass response on these is so good for their size I’m not sure it’s even necessary. Highly recommend these, absolutely amazing for the price and size, but, if you’re getting these to replace 8 ohm speakers you need to leave open the possibility that further upgrades to your audio system may be needed before you can truly appreciate them.

  25. ScottD

They sound great. My old ones were worn out. I bought them way back when we were still watching tapes.

  26. Metwo

Great sound, have then as rear surround. Only 60 watts max

  27. EricS

I use them in my home office to keep me sane during the day. Very good quality sound at a reasonable price. Nice rich sound with excellent frequency response across the whole range.

  37. TravisM

Clear Crisp sound. They fit my space perfect. Make sure you have the space out from the wall 6-8 inches for the best sound.

  38. Samsung

At roughly 13″ tall these things sound really good. Paired with a Polk center speaker and a Polk 10″ subwoofer you can’t go wrong. Price makes it even easier.

  39. Rondog

  40. Anthony

Great speakers for the money they really punch up!

  41. Medafaded

I’d give it 5 stars, but Best buy was a horrible experience. No so-called experts, just normal people trying to get by. So when i went to ask about the “Everything needed online, and all that was needed. I still had to come back to the store multiple times, and spend more money to get what was required! The bundled items online gave me mismatched brands which can cause delays, and not even the required front speakers were associated with the “everything needed”. At the store I specifically asked for an audio expert, so they can confirm I was purchasing everything i needed, he answered every thing I said with a yes! I got home did my install, and my new receiver said I was missing required Front speakers, so I had to go Back to the store, luckily black friday had bookshelf speakers, same brand great price! The speakers are great during movies, and video games, music too! Makes you really feel like you set up your own mini theater. Happy with product, im glad i did my own research, also that im Done with soundbars and connectivity issues with subwoofers!!

  42. MichaelB

Great speaker, it’s not a $1000- $2000 bookshelf speaker. It sounded really laid back and neutral at first. After several hours playing time it is kind of bright sounding or a U shaped sound. It was paired up to a Emotiva TA1. Pair these with a nice sub and you have a nice two channel system that will make you forget about a sound bar. They are good but not great, my KEF speakers have better detail and sound more natural. But for the price of these Polk’s on sale they hard to beat.

  43. thomas

Amazing clear accurate sound reproduction from a mid price speaker. Amazing when pared with a sub

  44. Elbert

Great speakers for my surround sound, will order 2 more soon

  45. jdcboston

I’m not a certified audiophile, but I do consider myself a serious listener with well trained ears. I can’t go into all the superfluous data, but I can say, I replaced a very decent pair of Yamaha speakers with a Sub Woofer.
I have always like Polk since way back in the 70’s and after listening to several options, based on space and price I was willing to spend, as well as other strong reviews, I purchased these.
I really love the sound, and I did keep my Yamaha Sub Woofer so, together, this is fr me, a great choice.
I’m sure other options could have worked, but, for me, these really give me the bright sound I wanted.
I do think the Sub is a necessity but that’s a personal thing.

  46. JamesB

Love these speakers! I have them running off a Sony strdh590. They have plenty of bass for a small bookshelf speaker and nice sparkling highs. Midrange isn’t bad either.

  47. Narasimha

Have used it for a year now. Great sound quality. Easy to mount.

  48. Sucks

Nice pair of speakers. The sound is clear and distinguished.

You can hear all of the instruments.

  49. JacobF

Extremely decent speakers for the $166 I paid for them. Very good sound and curve.

  50. ValerieA

Sound quality is great. Perfect size! Super pleased with my choice.
