Telephone landlines are slowly becoming extinct nowadays with the advent of cell phones. Still it has its purposes. In my case I work at home and I still find a need for a landline for fax communication for documents (Email arguably is not HIPPA compliant.) So of course, I have an all-in-one printer for that. That said the land line subscription that I pay for my home office is way underutilized. Here comes the Panasonic KX-TGD890 cordless phone.
Cordless phones as we all know have been around for two to three decades and not much have change then Basically it is old tech. Still the Panasonic KX-T6D890 still has its virtues. First is that like all all cordless phones, it has a base and can be expandable by purchasing separate handsets. Needless to say there are variants where several handsets are bundled with the main unit. The unit being reviewed is only for the single variant model.
The main features of this cordless phone include the following: 1) It has a digital answering machine. This may be a no brainer but most telcos nowadays put an additional charge for voice mail services. This built-in feature saves you money obviously; 2) This model boasts of long battery life for its handsets. But what is not noted in the box is that it uses rechargeable AAA batteries instead of proprietary batteries. This makes things simpler since should the batteries get worn out, they can be easily replaced; 3) It has a full duplex speakerphone. This feature is standard in all cellphones, so this is also a must in cordless phone; 4) It has a talking caller id function which is also bilingual. This for me is a nifty feature as you don’t have to look at the handset to know who’s calling; 5) It has an auto Robo Call block which is a feature not found in most cordless handset not even in my older Panasonic cordless phone this model will replace. Of course there is Nomorobo, but the additional protection for spam calls is always a welcome feature; and 6) It has also Bluetooth capabilities. And though this may be a feature not everyone needs, I find it very useful as I can pair my headphones with the landline thereby freeing my hands during conversations. In other words I can multi-task while discussing things with clients and fellow remote workers.
There’s really no more for me to really discuss the “virtues” of this phone as this phone is perfect for someone Iike me who works from home and has a need for a landline. I would highly recommend this phone.!

My experience with this headset is a great one and I almost want a landline at my house just because the phone is so good. I love having a Bluetooth headset attached to the phone’s headset to take my calls range even further. Once to reach the maximum distance you can leave the headset behind and go 30 to 40 more feet away using your Bluetooth buds. I have tried this and it works. Range will vary on obstacles and line of sight but I was getting a pretty consistent range. The sound quality is very good on the phones headset and great on my Bluetooth ear buds. I was able to easily pair the headset with three different companies earbuds and I could hear callers perfectly and they could hear me just fine. It has a digital answering machine and it works just as it should. Its intuitive enough that I did not have to read the instructions to use it. The display is good for what it is – a no-frills good enough display that reads well enough in sunlight and is more than adequate. The display also is back lit for dark environments. The build quality is above average as with all Panasonic products and I expect this to last for many years.

Battery life so far off the charging cradle is in excess of two days with normal usage not continuously. Love the talking call ID. The speakerphone is another big plus meaning you can still have phone in one room and hear message on the base.
The Bluetooth has a fantastic range for wireless headphones, over 60 feet and even on another floor but more noise and loss but still phenomenal.
I love love the call block with 1000 spaces and you all know 100 is not enough. In addition it has auto robo call block, telemarketing call block and the one ring scam alerts. All these are useful to intercept bogus calls.
The display is large and easy to read. The black onto white background is really ease on the eyes for clarity.
Call clarity is really noise free even through the Bluetooth connection onto headphones. The caller has no issues hearing or understand me.
Digital answering system Answering machine stores up to 17-minutes of messages and Quick-read Message Counter lets you see at-a-glance if you have a message

My home telephone is no longer connected via a copper landline. It is a cellullar equivalent. I prefer the convenience of the cordless handset. Panasonic’s DECT 6.0 comes with the base station answering unit and one handset. I have a older version. Both allow for adding more satellite units for whole house coverage. One in each room, without needing to run dedicated wires to each room.
The answering machine plugs into my Straight Talk cellular unit. The handset can pair, via Bluetooth, with six wireless headsets or earbuds. This is great but I wish the unit worked like other DECT phones that pair with my cell phone. Too bad it doesn’t as this is where they disappointed me.
Here are the features I love. It has the ability to BLOCK 65,000 spa numbers I deemed annoying. The handset can speed dial nine of my top called numbers. Easy to program too. My contact list can store the persons or business number an their name, which is announced when they call me.
The batteries are standard AAA rechargeable batteries, which are easier to purchase and replace. Wireless range is amazing. Voice quality is clean and adjustable if you take the time to read and follow the noise canceling portion of the user manual. Speaker phone function is also aweome, clear and easy to use. If you desire, the phone can be answered via a voice command from a few feet away.
There are so many features built into the base station and wireless handset.

If you looking for a phone to use that is simple and quick to learn, then consider the Panasonic Telephone. The The Panasonic Telephone comes with voice mail where you are able to turn it on or off. Additionally, comes with a phone locator in case you misplace the phone. This phone provides volume control, the ability to answer in coming calls through the flash/call button, and provides the ability to block calls with the call button.
The feature that you may find helpful if you don’t want to hold your telephone, is the ability to pair the phone with your bluetooth headset. When pairing the phone to your headset, you have to press the bluetooth button and then select pair and the headset automatically pairs up quickly. When receiving calls the phone sound came in clearly when paired to the headset. I simply pressed the answer button on the phone and was able to hear the call through the headset. The phone also comes with a speakerphone in case you dont’ want to use the headset as an option. Last but not least, the phone has caller id and announces who is calling as the phone is ringing. Not bad at all. I recommend this product.

For house phones, I have used Panasonic for many years, because they are great. My current system, with base plus four satellite handsets has served me well for over ten years. Having the opportunity to try out the latest version from Panasonic was an opportunity to see how the KX-TG890 (890) compared to the very high bar set my current phone system.
The 890 base station has a very small footprint compared to previous models, thus saving counter space. Most everything you need to do as to settings can be done on the handset. For a senior citizen, handset ergonomics are most helpful. It fits nicely in the hand, making for a comfortable grip. The number and other keys are larger in size, thus making them easier to read and push. There is no speaker button, per se. However, the speaker function is built into the Talk button. Push Talk once to use phone up to your ear and mouth, and to use speaker press Talk twice. All phone settings can be accomplished on the handset. Follow the easy-to-use instructions in Settings. Also, a detailed instruction book is included in the box.
An especially nice asset is the Call Block button on the handset. Carefully follow the instructions, and you can select from several options (manual and automatic) for handling unwanted calls. Pick which you prefer, activate it, and you are done. Another helpful key on the handset is Pair, allowing you to Bluetooth connect to compatible wireless ear buds/phones. Pair up and roam around if you have the need while staying in Bluetooth range.
Other features include: 2-way recording allowing you to save important conversations or perhaps scare off a scam caller, long battery life up to 10 hours continuous talk (Bluetooth off) or 7 hours (Bluetooth on), bilingual English/Spanish talking ID, excellent audio quality, and digital answering machine with large red counter on base unit. If you want to add more handsets, you can easily add up to six.
For me the 890 sets a new and higher bar in home phones. It’s truly a Big Thing in a Small Package. I have no qualms about recommending it to family, friends, or to anyone looking for a great choice in house phones.

I replaced my home phone with this Panasonic cordless phone that has all the features that I needed for the home landline. It was easy to install and set up, the Bluetooth pairing with my headphones was a plus for me that way I can make phone calls without holding the cordless phone and the calls are as clear as when I use my headphones with my cellphone. This Panasonic also have lots of great features like bright backlit display illuminated keypad with big numbers, Auto robo call block, English/ Spanish talking caller ID, speakerphone, digital answer machine, it can be expanded with other 6 handsets and you can use the speakerphone as a Baby Monitor. The battery last long as expected. I really enjoy this phone that includes telemarketing call block settings and it can be set up to one ring scam alert as well as Silent mode. I connected two headphones to this cordless phone. This model includes:
Base with digital answering machine & 1 headset
Ac adapter
Telephone line cord
2 Rechargeable Ni-MH batteries
Wall mount adaptor

Acquiring the Panasonic phone was an interesting experience. The shipping box it arrived in was used, unsealed and large enough to hold 25 phones. I was concerned that the packing (or lack of) had damaged the phone. I also noticed that the box containing the phone itself looked like it had been opened and resealed.
In spite of a rough arrival, the phone did work surprisingly well. I have Centurylink service for both phone and dial-up internet. This requires putting a filter between every phone line and phone jack. I first installed the Panasonic phone without the filter, but found that as with my AT&T phones, no filter meant no internet connection. With the filter in place, the calls were clear and there was no distortion, hissing or echoing.
The phone has some features my current phones don’t have. It can be connected to wireless headphones for hands free talking and it has a Call Block function. Phone numbers from unwanted callers can be manually entered into the Call Block list. Additionally, numbers can be blocked by pressing the Call Block button when a call is coming in, when a message is being recorded by the answering system or when talking to the caller. There is also an automated call block feature that can block robocalls and telemarketers before the phone rings.
I have Centurylink “no solicitation” activated on my landline phones which eliminates 99.9% of robo and telemarketer calls but if I didn’t have that, I would definitely use Call Block. I also have Centurylink voicemail which requires dialing *98 and then pressing 1 to retrieve voicemails. With the Panasonic phone the base showed a red light to indicate a new voicemail and all I had to do to access it was to press Play.
The Missed Calls function shows the date, time and the caller’s name/number and I was able to call that number back by selecting the entry. There was one little glitch. All phone numbers, including local ones, come in with a 1 before the area code. When I did the redial, I got a message that it was not necessary to dial 1 and please try again. There is a way to fix that but it is a little complicated.
Some other features are a verbal low battery alert, handset noise reduction to reduce background noise at a caller’s location, call recording, talking caller ID and the ability to answer incoming calls by voice command. The screen is clear and bright and the prompts are easy to maneuver.
Since my headphones are still on order I wasn’t able to test that feature but I can say that this is a step above a basic phone and that it is compatible with Centurylink landline service.

I’m so glad I got this phone. A LAN line is essential for business calls when I’m taking calls from vendors and as well potential customers. This one is great, mainly because it has that Bluetooth feature. I love being able to have access to everything around my home. Not that I have to ever worry about it, but if I needed it if or when my battery were to ever go dead, I could simply use my Bluetooth earphones or headset. Pairing my Bluetooth is easily accessible from a single press of a button at the base of the handset, right next to the call block and call waiting/ flash calling buttons. The number buttons are large and easy to read.
The volume, redial & caller ID are located front and center. Basically, this is the perfect home and or office phone. The call volume is great and it runs on 2 rechargeable AAA batteries that come conveniently packed inside. I really don’t see any reason to not get this as your next LAN line. As lightweight as it is, holding it for long call sessions is a piece of cake.
The speaker phone feature is great when you are stationary and need to take lengthy dictations.
I have already recommended this phone my friends and family. Affordable and functional. Get one.

Recently upgraded to a cable modem with voice to take make use of the voice service on my Xfinity plan. This cordless phone by Panasonic meets all of my needs and in a few instances, exceeds in places I didn’t think initially mattered. Setup is just a couple of minutes. After the initial battery charge, I waited a couple of hours, my new phone was ready to use. One of the main features that I like is that it doesn’t use one of those weird battery packs that you have to hunt for when the old one stops holding a charge. It uses rechargeable AAA batteries. Someone was clearly thinking about making the consumer’s life easier with this one. It also has it’s own digital answering system. No need to access my service provider’s VM system, I can get my messages straight from my phone. This unit also has it’s own call blocking system, allowing me get rid of the robo-calls and telemarketers that faithfully make their rounds on a daily basis. Even though this unit only came with one phone, this system is expandable by up to 5 additional handsets. The range on this phone is excellent. I can walk virtually anywhere in my house while on a call and never lose signal with the base. Voice quality is amazing. All callers sound clear and crisp via regular phone and speaker. The LCD screen is clear and the text is a good size, even for eyes that may require assistance. All-in-all, Panasonic did an excellent job with this unit and I can see myself purchasing additional units to expand this system over my entire house.

The Panasonic – KX-TGD890S DECT 6.0 Expandable Cordless Phone System is the quality that many have come to expect of an expandable phone and answering system for Land Lines. Panasonic has had various models of this phone and with each seem to try to perfect upon the previous release. The Voice Clarity is very good, a speakerphone is easily accessed when needed, the Intelligent Eco mode helps to preserve the battery life, the push of a button on the handset can be used to block spam calls from coming through again, and it is a very easy to use all of the Answering Machine features. Like many of the previous and similar models, this phone also allows for the addition of a total of 6 handsets. There is a new feature that I personally have not seen before and that is the ability of this model to have 2-way recording, and to be able to announce that it is recording to the caller. This recording feature most definitely discourages some spam and abusive calls when the caller hears that they are being recorded. To help cut down on spam, the phone is also equipped with a One-ring scam alert.
The difference in this model and any of the previous and similar telephone devices is that this particular model also allows for use of Bluetooth headphones with the handset. This new feature that has been added to a solid product that works well, is very easy to implement and is only a matter of pairing one’s particular headphone or earbuds to the handset device.
Pairing headphones or earbuds is a very simple process if the headset or earbuds support Hands Free Profile or HFP, which most do. Up to four different headphones can be paired to the handset, but only one can be used at any given time. I found it easy to answer with the ear pods and to switch between handset and headphone. In this case to pair the headphones, ear pods that I am most comfortable with, I pushed a pairing button on the headphone case and held it while I also pushed the PAIR button on the handset for a good three seconds. I continued to hold the button down on the EarPods case and then heard a beep that notified me that my headphones/EarPods were now paired to the Panasonic Headset.
Being able to move back and forth between handset and headphone, or using the headphone with the cellular phone and still be hands free to listen to music on another Bluetooth device is very convenient. If you are still using a land line at either work or home, I would recommend this in either situation. It is a seamless integration that has evolved through the natural process from the way we as humans work and live with technology.

This phone arrived in a very large box so that was strange, but it was well packaged.I thought the phone had a headset with it but as I read the instructions and on package the phone it was apparent that I misunderstood this information. I tried to pair my wireless earbuds with it but perhaps my earbuds are very cheap and just didn’t want to work. I think it is more an issue with my earbuds then with this phone. I have a new headset ordered so I will be anxious to get the wireless headphones working.I have previously owned several cordless Panasonic phones have have always found them to have a good sound quality and this phone does not disappoint. Today, many people no longer have land lines but I’d like to use voice over Internet and use this type of cordless phone. This phone functions as a digital answering machine has a long battery life and has talking caller ID. You can have hands-free conversations and additional phones can be added to his phone system.Since I have used several other models of Panasonic I am very familiar with the set up and the keypads which are easy to use. This phone has rechargeable batteries and they use the NI- MH rechargeable type batteries. My other Panasonic phones allow me to connect my cell phone to the base unit and then answer my cell phone from any wireless phone but this particular unit doesn’t seem to have that function unless it can happen by pairing via Bluetooth. For this reason, I removed 1 star.

Owned Panasonic products since the 90’s and still using 2 Panasonic Cordless Systems in my home from 1/15/08 Dect 6 kx-tg6441, so this NEW Panasonic KX-TGD890 wasn’t likely to Impress, BUT I was wrong.
It was well overdue for me to get a new Cordless and after 2 battery replacements and lost battery compartments covers (scotch taped) I was well pleased that I got the TGD890
It offers ALL the features I and various family members find exceptional for our communication needs and oddly enough MANY improvements we never knew we would need. The Features exceed what I could possible write in a small book, so you should get the product manual for that.
Panasonic seems to be on top of things improving and adding features and making exceptional Products that obviously last a very long time, with very little overhead in servicing. The new Menu and button design is exceptional, extra buttons like “speaker” have been replaced with operations like talk button now pressed twice puts a call to speaker mode, menu items are easier to understand and flow control is excellent.
Talking Caller-id is everyone favorite, I believe Panasonic was the first to offer it and it was the primary selling point of the cordless phones that made me dish out the extra bucks to acquire a full home system of them, and being such a reliable durable company brand I went Panasonic and was not disappointed. It’s so much easier to HEAR a name then to see it.
The NEW TGD890 added 9 groups (and the generic) each with selectable names and Ring tones, which include melodies. The ease of using and selecting these groups’ needs no major effort and caller-id voice is still present when in use.
Then there is a full alarm system, baby Monitor, Home Monitor Alert System, a Phone Book with TWICE the storage of my previous Panasonics now 100 phone numbers and with improved search and grouping far easier to use!
However my real favorite NEW feature is the diverse call Blocker. You can set up lists of known callers exclusively, or groups to screen and selectively block. You can request blind callers (telemarketers and Spam, Phishers) to ID them, and place them on the Block list.
The Phone is also an Alarm Clock, with 3 Alarm settings daily, weekly and once with a memo.
The Baby Monitor has a sound detector that can intercom between handsets* and also call phone numbers in and outside of the home to relay the audio that triggered it based on sensitivity level that you select, another wards a home monitor system!
This phone works well in Tandem with the 3 handset and base I use and Better with the 2 handset and base for the family, but cannot be setup as a PBX line #2 even if the other phones are Panasonic, but I expected too much.
With a Bluetooth headphones which I almost got I can expand to FULL mobility in the future and you can answer the phone with your voice sending the output to the speaker mode.
* Only one handset means testing ALL feature in depth is not possible at this time, plus I have no babies.

I think very highly of Panasonic phones and love the ability to build your system all at once or as you go. This Panasonic-KX-TGD890S is all that i thought that It should be-aesthetically pleasing, ergonomic, and performs at the highest of levels.
I have an older model and this one has more bells and whistles such as the use as a baby monitor, and of course as a blue-toothed phone to your headset so that you can answer calls without carrying the phone around. I will say that this handset easily connected to my headset without issues or problems. The pairing button is on the handset, bottom left, the default is not in the paired mode.
It is important to have the set up guide because the different functions need to be programmed in and that involves hitting the menu button prompt, then using the # button, and putting in a 3 digit code that then allows you to start the programming of that specific function, agsin through the handset.
I only got the base and 1 handset. The manual states that the handset should already be assigned to that base, but mine was not. So, i had to redo that process again so that i could then program the location of that handset, also diplayed on the handset, so you know which handset goes in which room.
A few more insights. I did try to register my older handset with this newer base and handset, but i was not successful doing that. Two, there are some system accessories that you might want to look at. I happen to live on some land and you can by an extender that would allow you to be at a greater distance from the handset, anything to be hands free.

This phone is really great! I like that I can literally stand it up when I’m talking my other phone didn’t do that, and it’s a speakerphone, it has the Bluetooth feature so you can connect it to your headphones although it wouldn’t connect to my beats headset, but it did connect to my J lab earbuds, all in all in my opinion, this phone is great.

Compact but loaded with features of units 3 times its size. Clear reception and good price. IT’S the one

The Panasonic Cordless Phone System was fairly easy to set up. I also like the the System because the ring tone is just t right and not to loud.
LorenaA –
This phone has a good battery life. The weight is ideal and the range is wide. I highly recommend to buy it.
HonestReviewer –
This is a decent Bluetooth capable phone with the classic streamline design. I purchased it because it specifically had the Bluetooth capability. Although the Bluetooth can cut out sometimes that might be on my side because I have more than one device paired with my Bluetooth ear piece at one time. I have noticed that it won’t drop if it is the only device paired. With that being said it has some ring tones that I really like. My favorite is the theme song from 2001: A Space Odyssey. For the price is was a good upgrade for my landline.

For the price it is working fine. Easy to set up. Let’s see how long it last.
