  1. CTmom

To be upfront, I received this unit as part of the Best Buy Tech Insider Network in return for an honest review. I was surprised at how much this would have cost if I had paid for it. I have used an electric Oral B for several years and could not imagine what would make this so much better to warrant the cost.
Boy, was I surprised! This brush and app are amazing! I did not realize how poorly I was brushing and how many areas I was missing. If you open the app and keep your phone within sight while brushing you can follow your progress. I was missing the flat areas of my molars apparently. It keeps a history for you of your progress.
There is a lighted ring that will turn red if you press too hard. The neck of the brush is long enough that you can see the color change while you are brushing.
It also comes with a travel case. The case plugs in so it also acts as the charger when traveling eliminating the need to pack the charging base separately. With the pandemic, I have not had the opportunity to travel to see how it works.
The regular charging base is magnetic. My older electric brush would get dirty around the charging base connection. This newer model is smooth and easy to wipe clean after each use.
There are 7 modes for cleaning- Daily Clean, Whitening, Gum Care, Sensitive, Intense, Super Sensitive, and Tongue Clean.
They also send a year’s worth of replacement heads (4) which is nice because these are angled at the bottom and are not your typical Oral B heads. I have yet to find the actual replacements online for future purchases (even on the Oral B website- all look like they have straight edges at the bottom).
I am finding that to get the coverage the app wants me to, I need to brush for almost 3 minutes. If I am just giving a quick go-out-the-door brush for only 30 seconds or so, the brush will give you a frowny face in the display on the handle. Kind of funny!
Overall, this is a great brush and my teeth and gums feel like I just came from the dentist each time I brush. My dentist noticed the difference just using a regular Oral B, I can’t wait to go for my next cleaning and see what they think after using the iO 9!

I forgot how much I missed using an electronic toothbrush. As others have mentioned there are several different modes of brushing which you can easily set to your preference. Set up was very simple and the app is quite easy to follow. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because in order to fully appreciate where you are brushing as the toothbrush sends this to the app in real time, I really do not like having to look at my phone while brushing my teeth. Taking my phone with me every time I brush my teeth isn’t something I would want to do and I would lose interest. But again that’s just my honest personal opinion. Now don’t get me wrong, using this brush makes you feel like you had your teeth professionally cleaned at the dentist. It does a great job of cleaning. As I mentioned it has different cleaning levels and I appreciate the sensitivity setting as it is perfect for my gums.
All in all this is a solid unit and I would definitely recommend it.

I’ve never owned an electric toothbrush so when Oral-B sent me their newest electric toothbrush to review, I was genuinely excited.

This particular model, the Oral-B iO Series 9 comes with 7 modes to customize your brushing: Daily clean, Gum care, Sensitive, Whitening, Tongue Cleaning, Intense, or Super sensitive. Each one spins and vibrates the brush just a little different, so there’s something here for everybody, whether you have sensitive teeth or want more intense cleaning, Oral-B has you covered.

Downloading the app and syncing the toothbrush to the app was really simple, literally just turn on the toothbrush, your phone will ask you if that’s your toothbrush and you simply select yes and that’s it you are connected. The app keeps track of your daily brushing habits, it has a timer so that you can see how long you’ve been brushing your teeth for and probably its biggest feature is that you can see in real time what part of your mouth you are brushing and if you have brushed for the recommended amount of time.

The toothbrush has a pressure sensor meaning that if you are not brushing correctly it will let you know. If you are applying too much pressure, the ring around the toothbrush will turn red, if you are brushing correctly it will turn green, and if you are not applying enough pressure it will turn to whatever default color you first selected when setting up your toothbrush.

At the end of my brushes I get that straight out of the dentist feel in my teeth, meaning that they feel beyond clean.. this is not necessarily a good feeling but at least I know that I have brushed better than I have in probably years.

My one main drawback to this toothbrush (probably all electric toothbrushes do this) is that when you put the toothpaste onto the brush head, you better turn it on, and then turn it off afterwards while still in your mouth, because if you don’t you will get toothpaste all over your walls, sink, and even vanity mirror.

Since we are talking about drawbacks to the toothbrush, let me to state the obvious, at the price it sells for it is definitely not cheap, this is not enough for me to rate it less than five stars because Oral-B does have cheaper priced models that I’m sure are just as great, it just depends on how much you want to spend.

In conclusion: there’s a lot to like about this toothbrush, the long lasting battery (I brushed for about 10 minutes the 1st time and went from 100% to 90%) The ease of use, The different modes, I like the little built-in screen, I like the magnetic base it charges on etc.

    + well constructed
    + premium materials
    + magnetic charging base
    + cleans really well
    + rechargeable battery

I am such a picky person when it comes to my oral hygiene. I am always looking for that “just had my teeth cleaned by the hygienist feeling”. I FINALLY FOUND A TOOTHBRUSH THAT GIVES ME THAT FEEL!!!!! I love the how it seamlessly works with the Oral-B app! I have used this brush like crazy and I am crazy in love with it! I will list the pro’s and con’s to help you make a decision.

    PRO:
-Extreme Clean, Fast Charge, Charging Case, Multiple settings and heads, Streamlines with the application to help you achieve the best oral hygiene, the design is there. Who doesn’t love 7 different brushing modes! I just absolutely love this toothbrush!

    CON:
Avoid touching those gums, this brush is a beast when you are using the “intense” mode. The toothbrush “Wakes Up” when it is moved, I wish you could just turn it off. it was a lot of battery if you are moving it.

I honestly can say this brush gives you that clean dentist feel and result, from your home. You can’t beat it. I bow to you Oral-B!

I’ve always just been a toothbrush guy, and I admit I’m probably not the best at keeping my teeth clean. I could definitely use a kick in the pants when it comes to proper dental hygiene. Enter the Oral-B iO Series 9 electric toothbrush. When I opened up the packaging and saw that the first thing to do was download the Oral-B app, I was like, “What the heck does an app have to do with tooth brushing?” The answer? A lot! Download the iPhone app, create an account, sync the app with the iO toothbrush, follow the prompts, and get down to brushing. When you start brushing, just open up the app, hit “Begin,” and start brushing. A set of teeth, both upper and lower jaws, is seen on the smartphone screen. As you use the iO toothbrush, the teeth change colors, letting you know that you are doing a good job of brushing them. When they turn a sparkling white, you know that you’ve done a good job. And let me tell you, when you run your tongue across your teeth, and you can feel how clean and smooth they are after a good brushing with the iO, the first thing you think is, “My teeth haven’t felt this clean since I went to the dentist!”

In other words, the iO electric toothbrush isn’t just about apps or telling you how well you are brushing your teeth, it does a fantastic job of getting them clean. And, if you don’t do a good job or cut off your brushing a little early, the app and the toothbrush let you know about it! A couple of frowning faces show up on the app and on the small display on the toothbrush. I was like, “Nope, not leaving my toothbrush with a frown on it,” and I kicked the toothbrush on and kept going until it gave me a happy face (usually about 2 minutes of brushing).

There are several modes/functions in addition to just a plain daily cleaning. You can brush your tongue with a special mode, you can set the toothbrush to be gentle, you can track the quality of your breath, and you can even track if your gums were bleeding after a brush. This is a toothbrush that allows you to track your personal dental hygiene in such a way that those trips that you dread to the dentist will be a lot less stressful.

Battery life is excellent. I’ve been using three times a day for the last week, and still have not had to charge it. Overall, I’m not sure how you can get a better electric toothbrush than this. I actually look forward to brushing my teeth, and that is saying something. Highly recommended!

  6. BigA

If your a gadget person and don’t mind spending the $$$ for this it’s well worth the money. As far as a toothbrush, it does an excellent job of cleaning. The settings for the modes of brush are great. I have sensitive teeth so the these brushes sometimes can be to vigorous, not this one. The sensitive setting works great. Setup was easy and the brush connects to the phone every time. I could only find two very small issues and I do mean very small:
    1. When unpacking the toothbrush you have to take everything out of the box to get to the instructions and I mean everything. Even the cardboard insert that holds the pieces in place – a bit of a pain.
    2. The 3D tooth location is not always accurate from top to bottom teeth – so when you brush, you’ll get a report saying you didn’t spend enough time on that portion of you mouth.
Like I said really small things.
Bottom line is if you have an extra 300 laying around and want a really cool toy the will help with your oral health then this is the toothbrush for you. As for me I was impressed enough that I will definitely purchase a Oral-B toothbrush next time I need one although it will probably be one of the less expensive models.

  7. SCAntonio

Yes, I’m an adult. Yes, I recognize the importance of protecting the only set of adult teeth that I’ll ever have. Does that mean I enjoy and/or am always diligent about doing so- NO! Enter the Oral-B iO Series 9 toothbrush & app!
As with other reviewers, the idea of “setting-up” one’s toothbrush certainly sounds odd, but it’s worth it! You get real-time feedback regarding whether you’re brushing long enough and/or in the right places, direct feedback when you’re applying too much pressure, a score on how you’re doing and how to improve- it just makes brushing your teeth more fun!

As always there are a couple cons:
price: putting all this magic into a less expensive option would mean it would be used by more folks and kids! Perhaps the other Oral-B options are just as great.
no ability to pause: two minutes+ can be along time to go without spitting, but if you pause the brush it thinks you’re done and ends your session- not cool. The alternative is to keep going & that can get a little messy… but you gotta do what it takes to get those scores, right?!? 🙂

  8. Sean

The cleaning power is step above other electric toothbrushes I have teied, it does a great job and leaves your teeth feeling very clean. But that’s not all this brush can do, the app functionallity is a very cool and welcome addition to the dental hygiene game. It will track how effectively you brush with stats for time, pressure and areas brushed. It will even give pointers to improve, such as areas to spend a bit more time on and if you are applying the correct amount of pressure. Thankfully the addition of this tech doesn’t add a lot of complication to using the toothbrush and setup is quick and easy. You can even forgo the app and still benefit from the built-in profiles (Daily Clean, Whitening, Gum Care, Sensitive, Intense, Super Sensitive, and Tongue Clean). The included travel charging case and the overall compact size are nice touches as well.

  9. MountainLiving

Ok, silly title, but seriously though…

Right off the bat I noticed how cool the charging base is. It’s a wonderfully designed sleek little magnetic round base that gently grabs the toothbrush and holds it in place. The feel of the tooth brush is solid and the little interactive color screen is absurdly good considering that it’s a toothbrush.

Now let’s get to the meat of this review, how is it as a toothbrush? The best I’ve ever used! But not just how it brushes, the whole experience is fun. As far as a tooth brush, it’s top notch. The vibrating round head is powerful and effective. But I’ve had other really nice power toothbrushes before. This one is next level. When Im brushing I get visual cues from the device itself to alert me if I am not applying the correct amount of pressure. A ring of light shifts shades as my pressure varies. The color coding is instinctive as blue is too soft, green perfect, yellow or red means to back off a bit on the pressure. Follow along on your smart phone and the app gives even more details. It will track time spent in each of 16 different zones. Watching each section of teeth turn white on your app is oddly satisfying, and I’m no kid, I swear I’m a 46 year old man. When you are done you get a rating. Only been using this device for a few days but Im already set in my routine of wanting not just the smiley face to appear on my brush, but I want the smiley face with the stars for eyes lol! You get this when you have thoroughly covered every area.

The set up was simple. It comes with 4 heads, so I’ll be set there for a while. It even has 7 different modes ranging from super sensitive to whitening depending on how aggressive you want to be. All in all this is the coolest and most effective toothbrush I have ever used. I love this thing and I would absolutely recommend to a friend.

  10. TechGuru

Oral B iO Series 9(white alabaster) looks great and performs well compared to the leading competitor’s flag ship model that I own prior using this model. It has all the bells and whistles, cool design, color display(OLED screen),bluetooth and AI technologies, built in timer, 7 cleaning modes for efficient cleaning, various language selection, app support for iOS/Android, pressure sensor with visual light differentiation and so on(Green when right pressure is applied, red when too much pressure).

    Whats included in the box:
    · 1 x Oral-B iO Series 9 toothbrush handle(white alabaster)
    · 4 x iO Ultimate Clean brush heads
    · 1 x Travel case power adapter
    · 1 x Magnetic charging stand
    · 1 x Power2go charging travel case
    · Documentation

Once you unbox the contents, the brush handle has the power button, color OLED display and mode button. Once you select the mode button, the first time it asks to select the language. Scrolled through to find English and to select the language need to press the power button for confirm the selection. Then, you can select the color of the ring from various selection available. I selected blue as it was so cool. Also, you have the option to enable or disable the Bluetooth if you want the device to connect to your phone app for tracking your progress.
Its powered by the built in rechargeable lithium ion battery and it gets charged by placing in the magnetic cradle that comes with it. Once the brush is placed, it has a visual indicator like cell phones to prompt you its charging.
The display will show the battery life in 10% increments after the cleaning mode has finished.
This toothbrush has a 2 minute timer and it display the count down once the power is turned on. Cool feature is the timer memorizes the elapsed brushing time, even when the handle is briefly switched off during brushing.
It is also quieter compared to previous generation and other competitor brands. This model uses 3D tracking and AI recognition to help us clean the teeth better and the sensors keep track of different zones inside the mouth like front, back, top of both upper and lower jaw.

There are 7 cleaning modes that are available to select from the brush handle.
    · Daily Clean – Standard mode for daily cleaning
    · Sensitive – Gentle, yet thorough cleaning for sensitive areas
    · Gum Care – Gentle massage of the gums
    · Whiten – Polishing for occasional or everyday use
    · Intense – For an extraordinary clean feeling (operated with a higher speed)
    · Super Sensitive – Super gentle cleaning for extra sensitive areas
    · Tongue Clean – Tongue cleaning for occasional or everyday use

I selected the daily clean for everyday cleaning and tried the tongue clean for every night. Tongue clean mode runs only for 30 seconds and the brush automatically powers off in that mode. Works great for me. Also, if you stop your before the end of full timer for the cleaning mode then the display will have a Sad emoji to indicate the brushing is not complete and happy emoji if brushing was good. Cool for kids!!
If you need to track your brushing patterns, then you need to sync your brush to the phone(iOS/android) by downloading the app from the Appstore or play store. Once downloaded, you would need to pair and create an account to track your progress.

App is very intuitive and the dashboard gives all the statistics of your brushing patter, timer for brushing, coverage, routines and so on.

Overall, great next gen SMART tooth brush from oral B with improved design, display, AI and 3D tracking, incredible battery life this one great for anyone who is looking for good oral hygiene. Highly recommended.

This is my honest, unbiased review and neither Oral B nor Best Buy had any input in this review.

  11. SUHD

I’ve used other electric toothbrushes over the years but settled on an Oral-B Triumph Pro unit that’s been working great for many years, though it’s starting to show its age. Getting this latest Oral-B iO Series 9 Electric Toothbrush almost feels like getting my teeth and gums cleaned by a dental hygienist every day. I don’t know how it does it, but my teeth, gums, tongue, whole mouth feel so clean and fresh after each 2-minute session that I’m never going back to using a regular manual toothbrush. The smooth vibrations and rotations of the brush head almost create a feeling of gentle water pressure/swishing in your mouth, resulting in a very refreshing feeling. Make sure you close your mouth as much as possible, or you’ll be splashing your vanity mirror quite a bit.

The setup and use is very intuitive. The magnetic charger is great and the travel case with built-in charging feature is a welcome addition. The built-in color display is bright, easy to use and very informative, including battery life. I especially like the color ring around the top of the unit that lights up green when brushing correctly, and red if you’re applying too much pressure. It comes with 7-modes of operation for everyone’s brushing needs: Daily Clean, Gum Care, Sensitive, Whitening, Tongue Cleaning, Intense and Super Sensitive – it will vary the speed and intensity of the vibrations and rotations for each mode accordingly. Battery life seems great so far, in my estimations, it consumes about 5% per brushing cycle, which technically could allow for 10-days of brushing twice per day.

It is considerably smaller and lighter than my older Triumph Pro model, but it feels a bit slippery in hand as it’s all smooth plastic, no rubber grip. The brush heads are actually bigger and bulkier than the older models, so that could take some getting used to. There is also no longer a color ring you could attach at the base of the brush head to distinguish between yours and hers/his, if you were sharing the electric toothbrush handle with your spouse. Unfortunately, I can’t speak for the app, cause I could not get it to “pair” with the brush, even though I tried quite a few different things, several times. It just gets stuck at the “Found” screen after detecting the toothbrush, and there is nothing else you can do from there. Judging from other people’s success with the App, it must be an isolated issue pairing it with my S20 Ultra, so I’ll have to take 1/2 star off for that contact support for help. I would definitely recommend it, if you can afford it.

  12. Serv

I’m amazed, this is an electric toothbrush with a great design and quite useful functions.

I have to say that despite the price that seems to be high, it is really worth it if it is about taking care of your teeth. I think dental health is priceless and being willing to invest in it, this electric toothbrush is an excellent choice.

I will not address many technical specifications that we have the technical sheet for, so I will say what in my experience I found.

I have not seen so many functions in a single device of this type, which with the help of the app, which by the way is great too, offers a very precise cleaning quality. The app guides you and even teaches you how to improve the brushing of your teeth, as well as showing results in real-time thanks to the Bluetooth connection it has. I think that reading the user guide and good use of the app, you can have quite satisfactory results.

In addition to all the functions and brushing modalities that it has, its screen is the perfect complement to a device as efficient as this one. You can select from language, LED light color, brushing mode, etc. Despite the fact that the screen is in color and it could seem that it would affect the battery consumption, this electric toothbrush has a long-lasting battery that with a charge of approximately 3 hours, could be used for weeks. The portable travel charger is simple but with enough space and compartment not to worry about anything other than toothpaste 🙂

The color, design, size, and texture make it, in my opinion, one of the best electric toothbrushes on the market, as I mentioned above, the price is worth it. I definitely recommend this electric toothbrush.

  13. CKent

Lets start this review with what’s most important, how well it works. For cleaning teeth, nothing I’ve ever used has ever come close. Regular toothbrushes aren’t even in the same league. I also own a very basic and cheap Oral-B electric toothbrush, the kind that just has one single speed and a simple on button, and it’s still a night and day difference. After just one brushing, my teeth felt almost the same as they do when I leave the dentist after a professional cleaning. They just felt glossy smooth.

The features this toothbrush comes with helps with that, especially the companion app. If you open the app before you start brushing, connect via bluetooth, and press brush now, it’ll communicate AS YOU BRUSH! The coolest part about it is it shows a diagram of teeth, and the brush actually senses its position and knows what area of teeth you’re brushing. It then displays graphics around that area of teeth on the phone and slowly turn white as you brush. This feature alone makes you want to fully brush to get all those teeth showing white.

Yes, they’ve game-ified brushing teeth, but that gamification makes something mundane into something fun. The app even has achievements.

Take away the app though and its still pretty amazing. The vibration and motion of the brush is strong. Almost too strong to be honest. I have to use it on sensitive and even in that mode I worry a bit about one of my crowns vibrating off. Not sure if that’s a justified fear, but it really is that strong. Plaque honestly doesn’t stand a chance though.

And speaking of plaque, this brush is EXPENSIVE. What do those have to do with each other? Well, it’s honestly tough to swallow paying 300 dollars for a toothbrush. In this case though, if it can prevent just one deep cleaning (of which I’ve had multiple using lesser brushes), it more than pays for itself. That’s what makes paying so much for a toothbrush worth it. I have no doubt whatsoever that this will save some of those non-routine dentist trips.

The brush heads are of course replaceable, which the app can remind you when its time, and this brush comes with 4 in the box. This makes it easy to share. In fact, both me and my wife have been using this toothbrush, each of us having our own brush head. This makes the price an even better deal.

There is a downside though to sharing the brush, the app doesn’t know who’s using it. When you don’t brush while communicating with the app, it considers it “unguided”, but it still keeps a log of these sessions with some basic info. So if someone else uses the brush, it’ll log it all as if it were you. Overall its a pretty minor downside.

That’s about it for downsides though, only other one, if you can call it that, is that even though this has 9 different modes, I honestly can’t tell much of a difference between some of them. Others you can definitely tell, like Intense and Sensitive.

One last item I want to mention is the travel case that this comes with. As a frequent traveler, this case is a huge convenience, but even more so because it’s an actual charging case that comes with a separate power cord so you don’t have to move the regular one from your bathroom. And speaking of charging, I’ve been using this toothbrush for almost a week now and it still has 40% charge, so you don’t even need to charge it if you’re only taking a weekend trip, or even a weeklong one, as long as its fully charged before you leave

Overall I was surprised with how much I like this toothbrush, especially considering the high price. That alone made me want to initially dock a star for it, but as they say, you get what you pay for and you definitely get your money’s worth out of this one.

    COVID-19 alternate to DENTISTS

I was not necessarily in the market for another electric toothbrush, but having now cancelled two dental cleanings this year due to Covid-19 concerns, I came across the opportunity to test the Oral-B iO series 9. The Smart AI features, and OLED screen instantly piqued my interest.

First impressions, premium package opening experience, greeted by a colorful bold friendly introduction to the iO series 9 ships with charging case and 4 brush heads.

Setting up the app was a breeze, particularly useful was the Amazon Dash Replenishment option for additional brush head supplies.

Comparing the Philips SonicCare to the Oral-B iO 9, I have been accustomed to beeps every 30 seconds, with 4 quadrants (top left, top right, bottom right, bottom left) for a 2-minute complete brush cycle.

Since the Oral-B iO 9 brush strongly advocates the use of the app, the graphic for the mouth is broken into 6 zones, 3 top, 3 bottom. The brush vibrates at 30 second intervals, so standard time is 3 minutes brush time.

Keep in mind that you might not have achieve perfect white teeth on the graphic overlay, so it’s not uncommon for perfect 100% clean brushes to take closer to 4 minutes or more.

Apple Health is a big plus for me. Part of the allure of a connected smart toothbrush is to keep track of # of times brushed, when, and average time. Using the app it records this. , This is where I believe this brushing model falls a tad flat.

I found it difficult to invest 3-4 minute brushing 3-4 times a day. If I happen to be in the bathroom without my phone, on a busy day I’m unlikely to retrieve my phone before a quick brush.

So instead of the toothbrush brains able to bluetooth seasons I brushed without the app (or later sync to the app), I couldn’t help but feel I’m leaving holes in my data, like when I don’t get credit for sleep tracking or a work out on Apple Watch.

That nit pick aside, there’s a LOT to love here. This brush definitely makes me focus MUCH MORE on my DENTAL HYGIENE. Even little touches like reminder checkboxes that result in additional accountability is a nice touch.
    Tongue cleaned, check
    Fossed, check
    Rinse, check

Compared to a competing brand Electric Toothbrush this one far outshines it. Testing the brush heads, the circular Oral-B also outlasted the competition using similar # of brushes.

    —–
This model 9 comes in 3 finishes. It’s interesting to note Purple is only on the series 8
    – Rose Quartz
    – White Alabaster
    – Black Onyx
Though I was hoping for Black Onyx my review sample arrived a rather attractive White Alabaster.

    Ring colors
    – Red – Too hard
    – Green – Just right
    – White – too gentle

    7 Smart Modes
    ————————
    * Daily Clean+
    * Sensitive
    * Whiten
    * Gum Care
    * Intense +
    * Super Sensitive +
    * Tongue clean

The cleaning modes are intelligent, e.g. gum care uses a different pressure sensitivity, and super sensitive seems to re-calibrate for miniature micro vibrations.

    PROS
    ———
    + interactive color display
    + immediate app response
    + magnetic charger base
    + Apple Health app integration
+ medal reward system (Peloton like)
+ approx 3 hour quick charge
+ base not required, travel case is all
    + Travel case charging indicator
    + battery life is excellent
+ full charge lasts a week
    + pressure sensitivity alert
+ 3d tracking nothing short of amazing
+ clean fresh breath feeling all-day

    CONS
    ———
-must use phone in bathroom, would prefer bluetooth brushing statistics to the app or post-pone sync
-the magnetic base could be stronger, while secure (not kitten proof)
-takes me 3 min to brush vs 2 min normally
-price tag, cost prohibitive to outfit a family of 5
-unable to edit session data if I floss but forgot to check the box

    CONCLUSION
    ———————
The Oral-B iO series 9 is a mixed bag for me. The smart brush, AI features, and mouth mapping are innovative and forward thinking. However I couldn’t’ help but wish that all brush sessions were logged regardless if I used the App. I’m deducting ½ star for that, and ½ for the price, though I know OLED screens do not come cheap.

But the Good (GREAT actually) definitely outweigh little nitpicks, and it could possibly be updated via firmware / app update. I’ve not had the fresh clean teeth feeling this great since my last Pre-COVID-19 dental cleaning.

ORAL-B is onto something there, and this is just the beginning of the connected toothbrush revolution. I eagerly look forward to future surgical tools that use this technology, like tissue pressure sensitive scalpels, and the like.

    Solid recommendation

This is about as close to that clean feeling after the dentist I’ve had; without having just left the dentist. This puts my old not exactly cheap toothbrush to shame. I’ll let you decide about the value proposition of this toothbrush as for some it might be completely worth it and for others this will be filtered out before they even see it as a possibility so if you are reading this that means that you are considering this toothbrush and can make your own determination about the value of this product.
I will say within three brushings this has changed how I brush, I am brushing for more than 30 seconds, I am brushing with less pressure, and brushing more often. I am little obsessed with technology so my phone is never far away… however my phone has also become my memory for the stuff I can never seem to remember like taking my vitamins, feeding the dog, and now brushing my teeth. Yes, I was a horrible person and wasn’t exactly great and brushing every night. I would say this toothbrush revolves around the app and technology to use it and that is what gives it a majority of its value.
Setting up the toothbrush is super simple, and I did it on an android and then an iPhone just to see if there were any problems in either and both worked just as good. So the very basic feature is your daily coaching screen that has your last score of how good you did (for instance I got 94% coverage the third time, the first wasn’t so good even with the coaching during) When you hit brush now you’ll see a full circle of dots and the a partial circle and then another smaller full circle, those represent the outer, top, and inner of your teeth and this toothbrush can accurately sense where it is in your mouth through magic (really a whole lot of amazing math and programming) and slowly those dots will disappear as you cover that area. If you start pressing too hard the area that you are pressing on will blink red and tell you that you are using too much pressure. This by far has to be my most favorite feature and one that will make me buy another one of these toothbrushes because my wife thinks it is the most awesome feature ever.
The next tab in the app is for all those people that love numbers and stats, it’s a pretty simple one that give your history for coverage, pressure, brush time, gum bleeding (you are prompted to manually enter that there was or wasn’t after each brushing), and a few other that you manually record like flossing. As far as I can tell there isn’t a way to download that into a CSV file but I don’t think that is really on the top of too many peoples list. If you want to see how much better you’ve gotten this is a handy and fun area to look through, If you lean more towards liking to just know by things like medals the next tab is for you; the app will give you a medal the first time you brush, for brushing at lunchtime, midnight, brushing your tongue, and a whole host of other ones that they could dream up… and somehow trying not to miss out actually kind of motivates me even if it is only in the app.. crazy how our minds work. There are also journeys available that change the toothbrush settings and give different directions to focus on different issues. These include; fresh breath, plaque fighter, whitening, gum health, and ortho care (braces). It will only allow you to have one journey at a time. It will also suggest different products that could help with your goal such as mouthwash, floss, and gum detoxify toothpaste for the plaque journey. I would call them advertisements but the recommendations aren’t links, there isn’t a link to amazon or anything like that it just has the picture, at first I thought this was annoying and then I thought about it for two seconds and realized if they did link I would probably dislike the app for having building in heavy handed advertisements and was happier with the decision they made to keep advertising out of the app. So these different journeys and such change the modes of the toothbrush but you can also go in and change the settings of the toothbrush as well, you can select different colors for the toothbrush to display, and select different modes directly which you can enable to be available directly on your toothbrush and take away the ones you don’t care about. The 7 modes are Daily clean, Tongue clean, sensitive, whiten, gum care, intense, and super sensitive. You can also change the order that these are in. So I’ve talked a lot about the app and what makes this toothbrush truly unique but no matter how good the app is (and it was well done) if the toothbrush itself isn’t nice to look there is a good chance you wont care about it. So now a few items on the physical side.
The toothbrush itself is nice looking, if you are the type of person that likes to have stuff on your counter where it is useful then this is a nice one. The travel charger has a detachable plug with no power brick needed which is nice. As for the stand, it is heavy and wont flip over all the time because the power cord is a little twisted. I think the only thing I would like to see different is if the power cord was a little thinner and maybe and maybe had a short and long one or someplace to coil the spare cable. Speaking of disadvantages there is one more that I found, if you have TMJ, this may be an issue depending on how bad you have it. This toothbrush handle near the head could be slimmer and is just a hare on the uncomfortable side for someone with slight TMJ (far from the worst offender but not the best when it comes to this).
Overall, I love this toothbrush and we will soon have two of these iO series as my wife does not like to share (for some strange reason) and it seems very much designed to be a one person toothbrush with the app and such. She is extremely jealous of my toothbrush (which seems to be a strange thing to be jealous of) and is saying she needs one now (which means she will have one soon).
    Pros:
    Nice looking
Multiple modes for brushing that can be enabled or disabled
The app (I feel like I need to write more here because this is the biggest pro and was well done)
The ability to live track your brushing
    Achievement metals
    Travel charger
Heavy charging stand (wireless charging to the toothbrush by the way)
Customizable Light (useful if you have two identical brushes I a bathroom)
    Cons:
A little bulky near the head
Power cord to charging stand could use a little improvement

When you’re paying $300 for a toothbrush there are features you expect to be present, leaving you satisfied of your purchase. Let’s go over the ones I believe are actually useful and enhance our twice-daily task of oral care.

Color display: This toothbrush makes it easy to access and use all its features thanks to its display right on the brush handle. For example, if you choose to not use the app, you can still see the timer on the brush. This was encouraging to brush for the recommended amount.

The app: I believe the app is fantastic. It has a very useful feature where it shows a mapping of your teeth while you brush, letting you know where you need to spend more time. For example, you might subconsciously be brushing one side of your mouth more than the other, but you never noticed. The apps function makes that information available to you.

Pressure detection: This toothbrush has better pressure detection than any other toothbrush I have ever tried. We tend to brush too hard which actually damages the enamel on our teeth. Higher-end toothbrushes tell you when your pressure is too hard. This brush does that better than any I’ve tried. On top of that, the brush will even tell you when you’re not applying enough pressure. That’s something I have not seen on other brushes.

Cleaning: This brush features a new friction-less motor from Oral-B that provides a superior cleaning. If used as intended, this brush will leave an excellent clean feel.

High end carrying case: If you take your toothbrush on your travels frequently, then you will appreciate the carrying case. I have no concern of the case coming open, or letting things in. This case also charges your brush which is a very nice feature.

CONS: I really only have one con for this brush. It might be obvious, the price tag. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide whether or not the price of this brush is worth it to you. For me, it’s too high and detracts the value you receive for the price. This does not mean that I wouldn’t recommend this brush, it’s fantastic. If you want the best and have the extra money then you have found yourself the best brush on the market.

If toothbrushes were cars, this toothbrush from Oral B would fall somewhere in the same category as a Tesla Model S. It is sleek, technologically advanced, and overall is featured and sold as a package indicating that Oral B means business!

First of all, why would one spend this much money on a toothbrush? It really comes down to personal preference and the value one puts on their oral health. I know that personally, when I consider a copay I had recently for wisdom tooth extraction was $600, spending this much on a toothbrush for something that will provide me preventative oral health management for years to come does not seem too far a stretch. Additionally, if one puts a lot of value on technological advancement, the features this toothbrush has with the Oral B health to help promote your oral health through real-time 3D mapping of the mouth, brushing patterns, habits, etc. are just incredible.

For example, the app is setup very similar to the Fitbit app, in which it tracks your brushing habits, occurrences, time spent, etc. and will reward badges according to achievements and tracks the metrics so one can identify their weak areas of brushing that may need to be improved. For example, my girlfriend in using this toothbrush in collaboration with the app discovered that she had a couple areas of her mouth she was consistently missing in her brushing pattern.

Now aside from the app, this toothbrush as it stands by itself is featured very well. Its LED screen is colorful with a good, legible font that allows one to scroll and choose settings with ease. It has seven different brushing modes if my memory serves, one of which is a sensitive mode. My girlfriend loves this model of toothbrush for this reason. She has always found lower-tier toothbrushes to be too aggressive and painful to brush with. With the sensitive setting on this toothbrush, she can tolerate it with no problems at all.

At this price-range, the toothbrush comes with additional accessories that help to justify the price. It comes with 4 total brush heads. If one follows ADA recommendations for replacing toothbrushes, this is a year supply. Replacement heads from Oral B for this model to my research are running somewhere around $30 for a two pack of replacement heads at the time of this write-up. These are expensive compared to my previous Oral B 1000’s brush heads that ran about $5-7 dollars for a replacement head, but in proportion to the overall price of the toothbrush, it makes a little more sense. The other accessory that I really like is the included rechargeable travel case. It appears easy to clean and includes a separate charging cable for the case, enabling one to leave the main magnetic charging toothbrush for the base back at home while on the go. The only missed opportunity here by Oral B is that I wish the case had a USB-C plug-in. USB-C power delivery can provide plenty of power the recharging of a toothbrush like this and would have provided much more convenience. The included charging cable for the travel case is proprietary and would definitely be annoying to replace if left behind during one’s travels.

Overall, I think that for those who believe that the end’s justify the means (or expense) or that honestly have the income or independent wealth to justify a oral health tool such as this, the purchase of this toothbrush is a no-brainer. Thanks for reading this review and I hope this helps guide your purchasing decision!

The Oral-B – iO Series 9 Connected Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush is a truly impressive toothbrush. It comes with many great features, a well designed app, and lots of extras.

    Pros:
    * Set-up: Setting up the toothbrush is very straightforward. I downloaded the Oral-B app and within a few minutes I had the toothbrush connected.
    * Multiple cleaning modes: The toothbrush has 7 different modes to choose from including daily clean, gum care, sensitive, whitening, tongue cleaning, intense, and super sensitive. I currently use the daily clean and tongue clean settings; although, I am starting to experiment with the other modes when I brush in the morning to see if anything works better than my current routine. I plan to ask my dentist their opinion on what modes to use next time I go in. The modes are easily swapped between and are displayed on a beautiful screen.
    * App: The app is really well designed and intuitive to use. I included a few screenshots from the app. It is really helpful because it tracks your brushing habits, provides feedback, and helps keep you accountable. It makes sure you brush each quadrant of your mouth throughout the 2 minute time interval. Additionally, it tells you areas you tend to miss or poorly brush as well as if you are using too much pressure. All of these are great features and will make for a healthier mouth.
    * Extra’s: The toothbrush includes multiple heads, a magnetic recharging stand, and a rechargeable travel case. My old electric toothbrush had a travel case but it wasn’t rechargeable. I am super excited this toothbrush has a rechargeable case. I am looking forward to be able to bring it on short trips and not have to worry about bringing the charger. Everything fits into the case nicely.

Overall, Oral-B designed a professional grade toothbrush at a competitive price. It is by far the best toothbrush on the market. I highly recommend checking it out!

Overall—I’ve been a skeptic of the fancy electric toothbrushes for a very long time. There was a short period of time when I did want one but never did take that plunge. I just couldn’t justify the steep cost for them. The only type I did buy into was the spinning head toothbrushes that were relatively cheap compared to their premium counterparts.
Going from an ordinary ($2-$3) brush to a sophisticated premium brush is a noticeable experience, however.
The iO series 9 is a dentist in your pocket. It coaches you on the proper approach to brushing, flossing, and the use of mouthwash. It comes with a premium travel charge case, 4 brush heads, brush handle w/ display, and magnetic charging puck. Sends you reminders for brush head changes and tracks your historical hygiene. Tracks gum bleeding and records the data into the iOS health app. Includes a type of reordering system within the app that integrates with the Dash button service. However, with everything mentioned, it still has its downsides.

Design—The overall presentation of this product most certainly makes this a worthy counter accessory. In my use case, it rests on the counter for a few hours after use until the handle completely air dries. What’s left is the round puck like charging base.
The physical display is very bright and colorful, as such that I believe you should clearly see it outside under sunlight. Features 7 different modes of operation from Whitening, Daily Clean, Sensitive, Sensitive+, Gum Care, Intense, and Tongue Clean. Between the brush head and collar of the handle is an LED that indicates proper or improper brushing technique. The same ring doubles as a charging indicator (which is actually a beautiful touch at night) that pulses white at roughly 5-second intervals. The collar on the handle is composed of a sturdy plastic sleeve containing a metal magnetic cylinder. When connected and powered, it pushes in and out of the shaft magnetizing the brush heads base and causing the brush head to move at an approx 20° angle.

Performance—Cleaning is superb! On day one, I wasn’t hitting all quadrants with the precision or pressure accuracy as I do now. It would go from green to white, and red as I wasn’t hitting everything per the Oral-B app. The “dentist in your pocket” improved that greatly. The pressure guidance sensor in this is phenomenal. But, while I still don’t believe it’s 100% accurate, as I am certain that I’m hitting the inner or outer areas of my teeth, the app just doesn’t register it.
Even with the negative mark here, the level of clean you achieve with this is far superior from an ordinary brush. For better context, and as it is my own interpretation, as Oral-B doesn’t showcase this on the product detail page. I get a more thorough foaming effect when using this brush with less paste over an ordinary brush. In addition, it causes more of a drooling effect during the brushing which I believe is caused by the vibrating effect from the brush. I know it isn’t the paste as I use the same brand/type as I did before this brush. FULL DISCLOSURE, I am not, nor have I ever been a dentist, oral hygienist, or any medical care professional. Nor have I studied such a field at a higher education institute. I do plan on bringing this up to my dental professional on my next visit. For now, all I have are web sources that point to a positive.
With all that said, this is a much messier brushing method. After each brushing, I always have a few stains on either the mirror or cell phone. Not to mention, unless you have your smartphone with you, the app won’t register your brush session. I don’t quite understand why cant the handle cache that information for the next connection with your smartphone. This would make it a 5-star review from me.

Conclusion—With the exception of the connection issue and messy experience, this is a phenomenal brush that delivers an exceptional experience and superior clean—all packed into a beautiful package that’s worth considering.

I’ve used Oral B products before, and would already recommend them.

After using iO Series 9, I know that I’m getting the best care for my teeth! The application that is used to setup on mobile devices is very simple to use. You download it, and it will automatically find the toothbrush via Bluetooth. Once it’s paired you will be able to start brushes from your device.

It starts with a normal brush, then tongue, then floss and rinse. While your brushing though there is a visual on your phone indicating where at in your mouth that you are brushing. It starts off ligh blue then ends up bright white. There are animations to make it look like your teeth are sparkling!

The toothbrush charges via a magnetic stand. The kit comes with 4 brush heads as well so you have plenty to start off with. As well as a carrying case that you can actually charge by itself!

This whole kit is awesome, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for something more than a toothbrush.

  21. pinkbat

Very happy with my new Oral-B iO 9, I love that it has a travel charge case awesome! & a magnetic charging stand for home. It was a quick & easy blue tooth set up download led the app & was set up within 3 mins, personalized my set up. It comes with 4 replacement heads.
Once your set with the app on your iPhone home you can actually watch your phone for the amount of time spent on each section of teeth as you brush it tells you if your putting to much pressure & if you’ve over brushed a section. It has several brush settings & you can also track brushing your tongue, flossing & mouth wash. Was totally happy with my new toothbrush & the charge lasted.

First off, and most importantly, this is a great toothbrush, all smart features and bells and whistles aside. It gets the job done and leaves your teeth feeling clean and fresh. Now, on to all the fun stuff and what you pay extra for. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical and expected the extra stuff to be a bit gimmicky. I was pleasantly surprised at how useful the smart phone connectivity is. The app can tell you which areas of your mouth you are missing while you brush, and even which areas you are brushing too hard. This can be very useful when starting a new brushing routine. For instance, I recently had some periodontal work done and have been paying attention more intricately to my brushing routine. If I had this brush at the time, it would have been so useful. I could’ve seen exactly where I was missing, and even in real time seen that I didn’t quite have 100% coverage yet. I don’t see myself using the app forever, but it’s nice to improve your brushing habits. The biggest issue I have had with it is that I don’t always remember to bring my phone with me, especially in the morning when I am half awake.
In conclusion, this is a great toothbrush that really gets the job done. The extra features actually work really well, as advertised, and if it is something you are looking for in a toothbrush, you will not be disappointed.

  23. OUSoonerFan001

I’ve used a sonicare toothbrush for years, and never experienced the clean I had after using this toothbrush. It truly feels like you just left the dentists office. The setup on my iPhone was super easy, and it helped me to realize I have been brushing way to hard at times, and maybe not reaching all the areas equally. It truly is next level experience. I only wish the toothbrush head had a cover like the sonicare.

  24. bobs

The only way to fully benefit from this brush is to watch the app at the same time as brushing your teeth. the toothbrush still works without the app, but the benefits are from the app.

  25. Smokey

Have purchased several oral b electric brushes over the years and this is by far the best one yet. I am extremely happy with this purchase.

  26. doubled227

This toothbrush makes me feel like I’m going to the dental hygienist every morning and evening.

  27. Okok

Excellent a spectacular brush, it leaves your mouth like a feeling of having gone to the clinic, do a deep cleaning, I recommend it 100%

  28. Camera

It a Christmas gift. I just love this product and I choose to give as a present. Oral-B – iO Series 9 Connected Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush – White Alabaster

  29. CiscoVixen

Brush began to grow black mold after 2 months! Too many moving parts for it to completely dry after use. I’ll go back to the old one that has a little metal stick that attach the brush head.

  30. Sparty88

The Oral-B-iO Series is a quality product that does all it says it will do. That said, it does take some doing to get completely made aware of all of its features. Documentation is somewhat limited as the product expects the purchaser to go online to discover all of the possibilities. The toothbrush comes in various configurations which also leads to some confusion with the included information. It is rather powerful! I usually brush on a “normal” setting, but I must use the “sensitive” and my wife the “super sensitive”.

  31. Jimjr1290

I first owned a sonic care tooth brush. It flung the toothpaste off and the back and forth motion was to short unless I turned up the speed. At that point it’s to harsh on ones teeth.
So I then buy a $15 sensitive oral-b toothbrush. Works great. No vibration caused by way so small of motion. The head spun a full 1/4 turn back and forth. Next I bought this brand new oral-b electric toothbrush. I turn it on and was a bit disappointed when I see they went the rout of sonicare. The head twists 1/10 of a turn back and forth very quickly. Just like with my old sonicare it flings off the toothpaste. I just cannot win. The speeds of all these brands of electric toothbrush are way to fast. If the oral-b would slow it down a bit and bring back the longer spin range it would be perfect.
Think about it. If you start off with excellent teeth and use a manual toothbrush regularly and efficiently you will have great teeth. How fast are those bristles moving with a manual brush?? Not very fast. What does that tell you? These electric toothbrushes are seriously to fast.
Slow them down and increase the range of motion so the bristles can more effectively sweep the teeth clean.
So to wrap this up. I recommend the $15 oral-b sensitive electric toothbrush. Now also why I will stay with oral-b. When I used a sonic toothbrush the sweeping motion would actually shove food into my gum line. The faster the setting you use would cause most of the toothbrush to fling off the brush. So I ended up having to put toothpaste on my finger and spread along all my teeth. No way. Never doing that again.
The spin motion of oral-b kept most of the toothpaste on the brush. When brushing towards my gum line because the oral-b spun it would actually shove food away from my gun line.
Oral-b decided with this toothbrush to move more toward a vibration motion and it now flings some of the toothpaste off. (Very annoying ) although definitely not as much as sonic.

So please with the next oral-b tooth brush get away from Sonic motion and bring back the range and slow it down ….

For now I recommend again the $15 sensitive oral-b electric toothbrush. It is a great toothbrush at a tiny fraction of the cost

  32. Akuragore

Ideal for people who are learning to control the pressure on their gums and teeth with the sensors and the “ultra semsible mode” you will love it.

  33. court

To be completely honest. The first week of using this thing it is absolutely amazing. After about two or three months, you question if it was worth it. It doesn’t seem as powerful anymore, and I wish the app was better. I don’t think the extra modes really do anything differently. I think it should be cheaper. You can’t pause it if you need to add more toothpaste which is super annoying. The lights are really confusing too after awhile you’ll realize it.

  34. TrevTrev

I love my brush! Polished teeth clean and leave me feeling like I left the dentist.

  35. GGKK

Seems ok so far. Trying to figure out why it’s $300. Had a lot of points so didn’t pay that otherwise not sure how I’d feel. Seems to clean nicely just downloaded the app so will see if that’s of any help.

  36. Roxy

I really liked this product. the toothbrush perfectly cleans teeth, has many different modes.

  37. LGGalleryStand

Good product. Has app you can download to track brushing habits

  38. KWGraves

I have used several products like the Oral B I/O toothbrush including Braun Oral B toothbrushes from many years ago. I have also tried the major competitor to this toothbrush.

I found it hard to believe that Oral B could have made that much of an improvement on their previous product. This replaces a Braun Oral B toothbrush from the late 1990s to early 2000s.

I highly recommend this toothbrush. I cannot compare it to the Series 7 & 8, but I would think they are similar.

I also recommend purchasing this item through Best Buy because if there is a problem you can always walk in and get help.

  39. treky11

Best toothbrush i have ever used. like going to the dentist for a cleaning everyday.

  40. RLF7

Love the toothbrush. Fast charge and great feel to the toothbrush. Would buy again even though expensive.

  41. BriSN

This is the worst electric toothbrush I have ever owned. The iO brush heads are different than the older Oral-B design. These iO brush heads have two holes at the top that allow prolific amounts of toothpaste and saliva to enter inside the stem on the brush head. But what is even more flawed is that there is a large third hole at the base that allows a lot of the toothpaste to leak out while brushing your teeth. This design makes it difficult to use without making a mess everywhere. The head design is also harder than it should be to keep clean, and quite frankly, it seems unhygienic to me.

The connected app is somewhat of a gimmick to me. It always says that I am missing spots that I clearly and thoroughly brush over. I stopped using the app after a few weeks.

I just switched back to my older Philips Sonicare. Not only do my teeth feel better after brushing with the Sonicare, but it was an absolute pleasure not to have messy toothpaste leaking out of the base of the brush head and making a mess everywhere while I brushed my teeth.

Buying this toothbrush was a complete waste of money. I plan to stay with Philips Sonicare from now on.

  42. PMkl

Great electric toothbrush. Have it for a bit so fare it’s great .

  43. Nintendo

This product is amazing they clean very well and beautiful

  44. BarackLincoln

This toothbrush is easy to use but it’s software is lacking. After multiple updates, the app is still buggy when brushing. For the price that I paid, I expected better.

  45. bestman

I prefer the motion of the Oral B io over the soniccare, the io motion and round bristle design focuses on one teeth. My mouth feels much fresher and the app keeps track of your brush habits and guides you to how to brush your teeth if required.

  46. mark

The little piston mechanism that makes the bristles vibrate/move in the brush-head fas come loose. The result is less than ideal performance, VERY loud tooth-brushing, and having to use tweezers to remove it from the brush head and put it back into the motor portion after every brushing.

I’ll honestly never buy another Oral-B product after this. I haven’t even had the thing over a year yet.

  47. Unknown

Feels like i just went to the dentist, nice and clean

  48. Kash305

its good but the only issue with it is when u brush and if water drips down to the top part where it connects it splashes with the vibrating

  49. SumanthK

Its worth of the price this item is really good and must buy

  50. Sandi

Great brush. Easy to set up and use. Received in timely fashion.
