    This is a nice unit, i had a Sony before this which i use for bedroom now, this one has more power and has the treble and bass settings which i like.

    Amazing…um…everything about it. This is a smart receiver that has so many awesome features-too many to list here. Even has an hdmi port that is a 2way IO for easy comms between stereo and tv. Clearity rich and crisp with enough amperage to fill your living space. Perfect with my Bose system.

    I had one just like this but it was a six speaker This one’s eight speaker but bad news about this one and the other one kept breaking down didn’t had it for one year yet three times and broke down I don’t recommend this brand

    I installed it and found the vocals sounded very muffled like the high end sound wasn’t working. I tried several times changing the speaker settings to no avail. I assumed it had the latest update as the latest one is from 2019 but no they didn’t. I spent 3 hours one 2 different computers trying to format a usb drive to something the receiver would recognize to no avail. Apparently the usb drive needs to be formatted to FAT with a dos partition according to the web wehen looking into the error code. What a complete waste of my time

    Its an ok receiver meaning the sound does not pack a punch like i thought it would. i have to turn the volume up most of the way. Thats a deal breaker for me!!

    The TX-SR494 is mostly as described. One of the negative points is that the advertisement described the unit as having a pass through when in stand-by mode which is not true. If I had known the truth, I would not have purchased this unit.

    Well packaged. Easy installation. Hook up to bose acoustimass 16 surround system. Sounds great. This replaced Onkyo older model. Like the sound. Powerful in the price range.

    It’s adequate for what I need. I am hoping the computers will work longer than my previous Onkyo receiver.

    It was hard to adjust the balance; it is missing a balance control knob.

    I am also not a fan of rocker switches to adjust the bass and treble; I want a knob.

    Last, there is a weird configuration for using banana plugs for my speakers.

    I bought this item on sale and I have owned another in the past will great results. I have a 3.1 setup with a mix of speakers from Infinity towers to a Jamo center channel and an over hauled Klipsch Subwoofer{new plate amp} It sounds amazing for movies, sports and music, I like quality over quantity and this does very well. Delivers the sound you want very cleanly IMO.

    Only comment is there is a problem if the receiver is not initially connected to a television. The “Setup” is not completed so every time you turn on the receiver the “Setup” prompt comes up and the “Setup” button has to be pushed before you can select your audio. I submitted a request to Onkyo if there is a way to fix this situation but never heard back.

    I thought this was an upgrade from my Yamaha but
    First day out the box after hooking everything up. I wasn’t pleased and the receiver was not cutting on after 1st use and now I continue to half that issue it’s not over heating it just doesn’t cut back on after normal use. This is a 7 channel and I’m only use 5. In hindsight I should’ve just stuck with the Yamaha receiver. Now I trying to it serviced by an authorized Onkyo dealer just after not even one month of using it.

    In shopping for receivers under $500 I found that most didn’t have enough power or they were not designed to power 4 ohm speakers. This unit worked great for my needs.

    This receiver was installed by Geek Squad 2 weeks ago. So far, so good. I bought this receiver to replace our 2012 Onkyo TX SR 313, only because the picture pass through module went out in the old unit. Although it’s a 7.2 channel, I’m only using 5.1, but at $329 on sale, It was a great deal for a trusted brand.

    Got this unit to replace my 16 year old Onkyo which was not Smart TV compatible with my new Samsung 8000 series. Works great! Set up was just a little querky with onscreen setup, but I got through it. New unit is compatible with my old Onkyo cassette tape player which made my wife happy. She has a lot of old cassette tapes she has not digitized. Old DVD player synced just fine.Sound quality is good using my old JBL speakers. For me, the vocal adjustment is fantastic! Many new TV shows have music so loud you cannot discern the dialogue during some scenes. This unit will adjust to bring them in loud and clear. Overall I am very satisfied with the unit and would buy again.

    ONE NOTE: If you mess up on initial setup, you can reboot setup by following the instructions found on the very bottom of the instruction quick setup guide. One small line in very small print. Easy to miss!

    I replaced my old onkyo as it last forever,this one is more easy to connect and runs much colder. It locks in controls on subwoofer. But I can’t beat the price. Real happy with the purchase ,hope it last along time like the other Onkyo.

    Tried to give this unit a 2nd chance after buying the first to last only a day before not powering on again. The same thing happened with the second unit. Loved the idea of all the features for the price, but his unit has a power supply issue and is not reliable. Sadly disappointed
