  1. LauroCan2

Been wanting this receiver for some time. Couldn’t pass it up when it went on sale. This receiver is future proof for most people. Great power and configuration options.

  2. Rodpat

It’s everything what all the reviewers say. It is wonderful! Receiver sounds great

  3. kent

Out of the box it easy to setup and it’s amazing sound.

  4. Spiderman

Great amp! Perfect for atmos applications. Very faithful reproduction of your movies and music. Other brands add their own equalization algorithms to the end product and onkyo is know for its more natural and “faithful” reproduction of the source material.

  5. Tallmantony

2023 still one of the best on the market! Great smooth sound endless features! If you can find it buy it!

  6. Rudedude

I like it!!! It’s got a lot of power and very easy to make changes to settings. My old pioneer receiver, you had to plug the microphone in and then look through almost everything to find what u wanted. This one has 1 button.

  7. AVRrrgh

Generally, I’d say this is a good AVR. But it has some serious flaws when it comes to the Dirac software. If you change just about any setting, including your listening mode, such as multi-channel stereo, etc., poof, Dirac disappears. This goes for many other settings as well. That is made even worse because you can’t just reapply it. You have do your measurements all over again. Plus, you’re required to use an app to use Dirac. Why isn’t it built into the AVR?

Also, the build quality on this particular unit was lacking. The front tray that folds down didn’t fold back up to a flush position. It just hung open. And the two selection knobs on the left were pretty cheap plastic.

The remote was a little cramped, but acceptable. It got the job done.

The sound quality and power was quite good, as well as having a good front panel display and OSD. But when you’re paying a premium on the unit to use Dirac, it had better be worth it, and it certainly was not.

    TL;DR
If you’re buying this unit without intending to use Dirac, great, it could work for you. If you want to use Dirac, look somewhere else.

  8. Rich336

I loved the reciever when it was working. It has great sound and good clarity. I have a Sony Oled and the reciever had constant handshake issues.

  9. JoeM

Great so far. Easy setup. Runs way cooler than the Onkyos of yore.

  10. brenro

Very happy with all aspects of this receiver. Replaced an older Denon. The Onkyo sounds MUCH better. Dirac puts Audyssey to shame.

  11. nate

It is a good machine. Has enough power. A lot of features. Very complicated and requires hooking up to a TV for initial setup. Wish there were instructions. Not bad though.

  12. MrMovie

Upgrades to this unit to go from a 5.2.2 system to a 7.2.4. Great sound for music and movies.

  13. BillJ

Labeled as 3 zones but can’t get 3 out of it, not user friendly

  14. PaulR

The separation of sound is great. It feels like the audio from movies are surrounding me as if I was in whatever I was watching.

  15. Willboogie

Very intuitive set up. Like the feature of calibrating each speaker to ensure optimal performance

  16. Retroman

I bought this receiver to replace several other receivers that fell short of what I expected.First i started with the sony An1000 which turned out to be a lifeless piece of junk. Then moved on to the sony es 5000 and that was pretty much the same story except it cost me double the price for garbage sound so I started doin research on what receivers were getting rave reviews and the onkyo rz50 was across the board getting praised by most sites so took the leap and boy am i glad i did! This reciever performs and sounds like its a 3 to 4 thousand dollar reciever it has everything you could want and the sound is 2nd to none. The only thing i can gripe about with this onkyo is that it doesn’t have dual independent subwoofer inputs it has 2 sub inputs but it acts as one so you cant adjust 2 subs independently you would need to buy the rz70 for that feature but i can tell you this was night and day difference and i wouldn’t hesitate to buy this receiver if your looking for high quality audio for music and movies!

  17. PeterT

Longtime Onkyo user, had a TX-NR609 years ago that developed an issue where sound would drop out from channels. Onkyo let me send it back and exchange it for a TX-NR646. I’ve been using that for about 6 years with no issues. Bought this to upgrade to allow for better 4k features as well as to future proof for a long time. Basic setup was a breeze. Have not used DIRAC yet. Without changing anything else in my setup, sound quality noticeably improved. I have a 7 channel setup with Polk S60 towers, S15 surrounds, and an Emotiva C2+ center. This receiver easily drives all speakers much better than the old one. WiFi connectivity works great. If you’re looking for a high end feature packed receiver for under $2k, this is a great option.

  18. KevinD

After reviewing multiple a/v receivers to upgrade from my Yamaha this receiver has met all my expectations has a great sound and the set up was easy I still haven’t used all the new features but will continue to explore I would recommend this to anyone

  19. JoshF

Pretty awesome receiver! Huge upgrade from my previous one! Highly recommend

  20. Wilco1968

Hdmi inputs are glitched sometimes goes in and out:

  21. Musiclover1

This is a dynamic system! It gives me the capability of still enjoying my analog components without having to buy a separate phono preamp. It features al the latest features you would want in a high end system. Power is plenty at 120 watts per channel. It is efficient in delivering that power while being clean in its sound. There are higher priced receivers out there that don’t deliver the features that the Onkyo does. A sound investmnt for a for an audiophile.

  22. Nomar99

I like the technology incorporated rated in this receive, great for music and movies. Enough power to drive my B & W speakers. I have owned Onkyo receivers in the past and this receiver is my biggest purchase . Great choice if you are looking for awesome receiver.

  23. Movieman60

Stunning sound for both home theater and stereo listening.

  24. SDP2018

“Downgraded” from the Marantz Cinema 50 just to see if nearly double the price was justified. To my surprise, the Onkyo RZ50 is easily the better bang for the buck! Sure, it doesn’t have the same detailed ability to tweak settings, but offers slightly better power output and doesn’t get as hot.

  25. Stormtrooper

Great system, easy to setup. Looks great and the sound is flawless. I have it set as 9.2 and l simply love it.

  26. Sanjaya

I replace this with my Onkyo NR-808 which I had it for more than 13 years so it was not new to me, this new system is a 4step up from what I had. Also same speakers sound much better with this new reciver. I love this system and tech support is amazing solve my problem no sound when wathing tv, it was a setup from my tv.

  27. RobertM

The Rz50 is the best bang for the buck when it comes to Av receivers. Amazing sound quality. A ton of connectivity. Awesome peice!

  28. NickB

Plenty of power and most of the current extras you would need. The GUI is a little outdated and don’t love the fact that you can’t externally amplify just the front 3 channels in a larger setup. Great for the price, but only Good AVR most 5.1.2 setups though.

  29. Realghostbusters

this unit blows me away. very easy setup and stunning performance. great value.

  30. Skny601

Still tinkering as the technology has improved from my cheaper onkyo avr. Paired with decades old Klipsch Reference the speakers have more clarity. 7.2.2 will purchase power amp to push to limits adding 2 more dolby atmos

  31. WilfredoA

the best receiver ive ever had. i had a yamaha so big step up i fully recommend this product !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  32. SoundMan

Worst experience with this receiver. Certian listening modes are not producing any sound right out of the box. Onkyo customer support was not very helpful and declared this unit need to be sent for repair under warranty. I am right outside the windows of returning this back to bestbuy. I called bestbuy they wanted me to work with Onkyo.. But Onkyo does not really care and want me to work with the 3rd party repair centers under wattrany. I had spent hrs on hold with onkyo on hold and them trying to understand the problem. It felt like I wad the tech support guy and he was was the customer. I knew more about the receiver and its functions and capability then he did. Now I have to deal with 3rd party repair centers where I am responsible for shipping out the unit to them. Just crazy!!! I am switching from Yamaha and that was built like a tank!! Going back to Yamaha, Never buying Onkyo and BestBuy again….

  33. Recon

Loved this receiver so much that I bought 2 of them and gifted one to a friend! Highly recommend

  34. Matt

After just over a year of owning this unit, the HDMI out is no longer working. Onkyo customer support is terrible, I cannot recommend this product. This seems to be a known issue, yet they do not address it. If I could I would return this and get a more reliable unit, even though this one has all the features I need, I would not purchase it again. I was hoping the HDMI issues would not hit my unit, and I took the chance, but this will prevent me from buying anything Onkyo in the future.

  35. AllanB

Love this and was easy to setup with my Klipsch speakers

  36. Josh

This receiver is amazing. I upgraded my older RZ series onkyo receiver, and this one is packed! My new klipsch speakers have new life pumped into them. Plus Dolby atmos & THX sounds are awesome. Plus it has true 4k with 120 hz pass through which is my main reason for purchasing this receiver, which appearently is very uncommon. Most receivers have 4k with only 60 hz pass through… but this one is amzaing and powerful. My front speakers can handle upto 150watts and my surround sound speakers can handle up to 120watts and my subwoofer can handle upto 400watts. This receiver handles all that wattage and ohms with ease and power. Very pleased with my purchase.

  37. Chipper

For some background, I was looking to replace an older (15+ years) Pioneer Elite SC-05, which was a fantastic AVR that allowed me to utilize HD audio from Blu-rays. It’s held up well and was giving me no issues, but I wanted to unlock 4K capabilities (including Atmos) that it was lacking.

Given my positive experience with Pioneer, I was drawn to them, Onkyo, and Integra, since they’re all under the same ownership umbrella. I watched and read a slew of reviews, and the Onkyo RZ-50 was still being regarded as one of the best AVR’s a few years after release, so I decided to pull the trigger once it went on sale for Black Friday.

It…is…fantastic! Very easy to setup and comes with not one but TWO room programs – I used the standard Onkyo as opposed to the acclaimed Dirac as I only have the puck mic, but I’m quite happy with the sound. I’m running a 3.1.2 for now with a set of Focal towers/center and an older Klipsch sub, and there have been no issues whatsoever. I would say it’s very neutral sounding, so if you want something warmer you might not like it. Bass is a little on the thinner side, but that could be due to my speakers and not the Onkyo. I do find it very true to the source material, though. Plenty of HDMI inputs, latest spec, 8K support, gaming features…it has all of the bells and whistles you need.

One gripe – and it’s very minor – is that the audio format doesn’t display on the front of the AVR while in use. It only shows the source as well as the volume – I’d prefer to see Atmos, True HD, Dolby Digital, etc.

    Definitely recommended!

  38. Tweedleyd1

Is a Great Reciever easy to set up a pretty hefty reciever , you wont refret buying it

  39. DonaldW

Worked for about two hours (one movie) then failed. Taking it back today.

  40. AnandK

excellent sound performance and picture quality for the price.

  41. Securityconcern

Really enjoy the power and sound that go through my speakers. Very happy with my purchase Onkyo

  42. MarkbF

Great receiver has great power and the preamp outputs you need if you want to add more.

  43. Generaldaddy

This A/V receiver is the best I’ve ever had. Onkyo RZ-50 is a BEAST I’ve been looking for a receiver to power my Bose 301s 201s and my center channel. This is the one it enhances everything it is a must have if you are home theater enthusiast even if you’re not trust me.

  44. MichaelW

The first unit was defective. Your exchange policies made the replacement difficult. I had to cancel the original order and reorder it. At that time the unit was off sale and I spent a good amount of time at the store and had to get a manager involved. The second unit works fine and is everything I expected.

  45. TNY69

I purchased a denon 3800 but it did not provide the sound I was looking for, until I tried the RZ50. I have been putting together a new high end speaker package together and have been listening to all types of receivers, speakers, subwoofers etc. I found the denon receiver was very basic it did power my Kef towers and center. The clarity in sound I was looking for in music and the detail in surround was just not there. It was just mediocre and I was satisfied but just not happy. I read and heard many positive things about the RZ50 and so I decided to try it out. Thats when everything changed, Not only it powered my speakers easily, but the sound in both music and movies was just incredible. Im not knocking the Denon, all Im saying is, dont go by what is recommended, go by what makes you happy and gives you that sound you have been looking for. Dont hesitate to do the research, you will be surprised. Oh yeah and Dirac is included with the RZ. Theres a reason why the RZ50 are in backorder and you have to wait weeks to get one. I found the sound I was looking for, and for a great price. Good luck in finding your sound. I took a chance and I couldnt be happier, Onkyo delivered just what I needed and the price was even better. The design is modern yet classic, let me warm you, it is a tall Receiver so measure your space accurately, and No dont remove the feet to make it fit, because theres air that needs to pass through. Also, take the time to read the user manual and you will definitely enjoy and get the best out of this receiver.

  46. Pablo

This receiver is fantastic. It comes with multiple ew softwares, dirac and accueq. The dirac is somewhat clumsy when used on mobile. It disconnected several times until I could finally get it to work.
But the receiver itself sounds fantastic.
And especially at the sell price of 1200 bucks. If you pair this with a $300 amp, I think you have a excellent 7.2.4 system.
That’s at a cheaper price than anything on the market currently

  47. Donna

I bought this for the phono input and 9 Channel. Needed to upgrade from 7-2 i had without phono. Everything was easy to setup it has great speration when watching movies. I like it

  48. Ballzack

Great stereo.I love the sound mode choices.120w per channel.my prime pinnacle speakers sound great. Ru

  49. Norbert

I love it the best receiver so far sounds amazing

  50. HelloChi

I’ve owned this for about 2 months now. Using it with a 3.1 system consisting of in wall 5.5 deftechs for fronts and center and SVS1000 Pro sub. TV is a LG G3. It sounds great with lots of ways to configure. Functionally it’s a bit clunky though. Input switching can be very slow, I couldn’t get dirac to work for a month (which I was told was becuase their servers were down) and when I did get it to work I didin’t like the result. This may be because I’m only running 3.1 or my speakers or something else but I ultimately abandoned it. I also found that it would often take a while (hours) for it to recognize a new input (i.e. cable box or game console) after plugging in with HDMI. Lastly the onscreen menus to configure the unit would come and go. Sometimes it would work and sometimes I would get a “please wait’ message and I would have to unplugged/replug in the unit to fix the issue. It was always fixable but kind of annoying as it isn’t very practible to use configure via the on unit display.
