Bought September 30 2023. Stopped worked October 30 2023. Power/standby just keeps clicking. Wont power reset. Wont factory reset. Wont power on. Basically a huge expemsive paper weight at this point
MBLES –
It’s everything I was expecting. The sound is great.
AlbinoShrek –
It has buttons and displays and things on the back!
In all seriousness, I still have my old Onkyo from like 15-20 years ago, and it is still reliable and revered for its build quality. This, is pretty much the evolutionary heir to throne of that one.
Very similar build quality, hefty but not heavy. Yes, the display is pretty plain and dated – so what? If your focus is on aesthetic nonsense like display “wow,” you might as well get a cheap lesser-known brand with gimmicks instead of quality and performance. Or, why not waste a ton of money on some pretentious “designer” brand unit.
If you are an audiophile, cinephile, or even just an immersive gamer – you need to grow up from second-rate sound setups. Onkyo NR6100 is the best all-rounder, best value per watt, best build quality for the price range, and it has proven sound quality with that THX certification.
You simply can’t make a better choice than this unit (unless you need more than 7 channels – this unit can’t help you with that one).

Awesome receiver, easy setup and easy to use. I am using it with a Definitive Technology surround sound system. Good purchase

Super powerful amp. This amp delivers very clear audio to my Klipsch speakers. Setup interface is easy to follow and comes packed full of features like Airplay, EQ, mic setup. You can adjust gain on a per-speaker. A few misses for me is that the amp takes a minute to warmup and produce sound. When ever the amp turns on/off it makes loud clicking noises, which might be annoying for some. I understand what these things happen, but it’s what keeps this product from being perfect. It also gets pretty hot so make sure to not cover the vents.

Best receiver I’ve ever purchased. Got it for a steal from Best Buy. I paired it with Epson LS21000 projector. Looks and sounds like I’m in a real theater.
Drew –
Great mid-range receiver for the price. Works well witg my 7.2 onkyo speakers and 90hz sub woofer.
JimG –
It is a bit different from my antiquated stereo system, but after a few days I really like the clean and pure sound this reciever puts out. It’s great.
CynthiaB –
Easy to set up and use, Easy all around and great sound.
GaryM –
Excellent product, like the CEC hdmi automation with the TV so i have removed my optical cable. All my consoles route through the unit also.
Micro –
Great product with all the functions you will need
WoodyP –
This is a basic receiver but it’s getting the job done until I can afford something with more features. Love the product and price.

This is my 6th Onkyo receiver in the past 21 years! Easy set up – plenty of connections – very good sound output. My old TX-DS989 receiver had slightly better quality sound – this is still an excellent AV Receiver
RobertC –
this was an upgrade from a 1st gen onkyo av receiver and it was an excellent decision and great replacement
Dondi –
Great sound. Terrible documentation to setup and control unlike my old Onkyo. There was no info regarding the requirement to attach a tv to perform setup! Had issues with sound lag no matter the quality of HDMI cable used on my blu-ray and HDMI cable used to the ARC HDMI. Workaround was to hook the blu-ray and other HDMI units directly to the TV and use the TV’s optical fiber sound output for sound to the Onkyo surround. Unfortunately this solution seems to degrade the surround quality and experience.

Purchased for $390 before tax in Albany, NY where this was sold as an excellent condition open box unit. Brought it home, opened it……just the unit in a cardboard box. No warranty information, no remote, just the unit. I proceed to set everything up with the onkyo app. Unit starts to click on and off repeatedly without actually turning on when I first plugged it in. After a couple of tries I got the unit to stay on, and watched some content. Everything seemed ok, except alot of clicking between inputs. Next morning unit won’t turn on and just clicks. Major bummer, but I’m returning it because best buy customer support would not assist in the exchange I requested.

Very happy with this receiver. I can’t believe it can do so much. And also I do like the heros feature. The power output and all the capabilities at this price is great. But the sound it produces is amazing. I didn’t have to play it loud to get the sound clarity and warmth, amazing. I’ve been using it in 2 channel stereo. Very good product. I will recommend.

Seems to function well. It’s new and I haven’t totally figured it out yet

I had to return this, horrible reciever, try to use bluray function no picture appeared on the tv, and i didn’t feel like i was getting the surround sound effect with this no matter what option i choose, calbration on this does not work. I never heard of this onkyo brand my Yamaha receiver was over 15 years old and I upgraded to this to keep up with technology advances because this has a bunch of hdmi in the back my old Yamaha was all rca only, never heard of the brand Denon im used to buying products like Yamaha, sony, but since this the onkyo didn’t work for me i tried the denon and im so happy with it, the calibration was better and easier and more detailed than the onkyo. I feel the surround sound effect i was looking for with the denon 🙂
JColorado –
Great receiver with plenty of power for a 5.1 Home theater system.
LindaA –
It makes a clicking noise before and after each commercial. The clarity of the sound is mushy.
Steve –
Crystal clear. Reliable. THX sound. No disappointments and easily the best bang fo the buck.
BrianW –
This is an excellent equipment. I like the simplicity, the convenience of ARC connection and the power. I currently listen at the default settings with volume at 40, which is just midway but it’s impressive.

Bought this receiver for my daughter’s home. The home has a small living room and this receiver is paired with a set of Klipsch Atmos top firing speakers. As far as loudness it is plenty for this space and sounds very good. I had purchased the speakers before purchasing this receiver. It did not supprort the speaker setup that was needed, it is 7.2.1, and the needed setup was 5.4.1. I wired the the L and R Atmos speakers in series making the load 8-9 ohms, the rest of the speakers are a 4-5 ohm load. The receiver handled this without issue as it is rated 4 to 16 ohm load. Speaker setup was very easy with the included mic.
I am not an audiophile. I’ve heard systems that costs thousands of dollars this is not that, the speaker and receiver combo was bought because of its price and features.
The receiver is also connected to two existing Polk outdoor speakers and the sound is good.
So far the receiver has been used to playback movies, games, and some bluetooth audio and has not had any issues. Again the volume level is fine for this area and it is more than they will need until the are old like me.

Great receiver at a great price! I am very happy with my purchase.

Bought this for the HDMI 2.1 capabilities. Used Dolby Atmos with a 5.2.1 setup, and it sounded fantastic.
Sadly, the HDMI CEC did not work. I tried it with 3 different TVs, and multiple sources that support CEC. Even purchased a new Ultra High-Speed cable. It only worked if the AV receiver was recently shut off, any time after ~2 minutes and the CEC “consumer electronics control” would fail to work. This led me to believe there is an issue with the firmware and how it controls the non-volatile memory.
I worked with Onkyo support on this, and they assured me it should be working as expected. After replacing the unit at BestBuy and countless factory resets, I gave up. The item has been returned. I am now waiting for a 2024 or later model.
I wanted so badly to keep the unit. It sounded great, but I wanted it to work as advertised.
Another item I should point out. This does not have “full-fat” HDMI 2.1. It is limited to 40Gbps, not the full 48Gbps. If you were to purchase a TV that supported 4K @144Hz “looking at you LG 2024 OLED C4”, this AV receiver would not be able to pass through the signal.
KurtK –
I purchsed this unit from Best Buy and now it requires repair which the nearest store is over 2 hrs away from me and they don’t have an option to send it UPS or any other option so i can get it repaired without driving 5 hrs round trip to drop it off snd then I would have to drive another 5 hours after it’s repaired… if they actually can repair it!! Best Buy should offer a way to send in the unit for repair… I don’t care if I have to pay the shipping cost… I’m done with Best Buy!!!!!
FrankR –
This is great receiver! It handles everything I throw at it very well. I love it!
fargin007 –
Broke after only a year. The HDMI ports for 4k apple TV did not work.
JenniferS –
Great value for the price and sounds fantastic in our home theater space
RykerXL –
I wanted to like this receiver. Out of the box the setup was simple and the sound was rich and amazing! However, the unit would randomly power off, especially when I was watching my TV through the digital coax. I unplugged the unit, got new AV cables, used banana clips for the speakers and even got a fan to help keep the unit cool and it still would shut off randomly. I spoke to Onkyo about it and they suggested a factory reset. That did not help either. I figured the unit was bad and tried another and sadly the SAME THING happened. Switched to another brand and so far no issues. Sad, it’s a great value for what you get.
NicholasL –
Great sound quality ane easy to set up with my existing speakers system and with the cable box.
user247006 –
This receiver has all that I need. Surround sound, Bluetooth and great sound.
Alanjan –
I purchased this to replace my Denon receiver that I purchased some 16 years ago to gain 4K compatibility. The Denon was great but it was much more complicated to use and wasn’t 4K compatible. This Onkyo is much easier use and easily allows me to get the sound I want from the various sources I use such as DVD, TV, ROKU, etc.
Robert –
Onkyo makes great receivers. I owned a few over the years with no problems from them
user804264 –

Hipolito –

JeromeO –
Excellent sound quality, with excellent EQ settings
Stump –
The unit is excellent. The picture routed through the system to the tv is extremely sharp. The setup process is okay at best. It took a little tinkering around to get all 5 of the speakers of the surround system to work. The unit was an open box purchase and it was missing the calibration microphone. Still very pleased…
MarcP –
This is a great receiver. Setup was easy. Plenty of power to run home theater.
Acechaser –
Really awesome A/V. This is the second Onkyo that I have owned. This Onkyo – TX-NR6100 7.2 Channel THX Certified Network A/V Receiver powers my Klipsch speakers flawlessly.
user615605 –
Bought this unit to use as a stereo only setup for the time being. I needed a receiver with a phono input. I am very pleased with it so far.
Reviewer –
Great sound for the price I paid, Set up as a 5.2.2 I had to refine the speaker dB levels after the built in calibration ran but that’s ok. Gets plenty lound for movies.
Crazed –
Quick and easy to set up. Great sound and switching is good between outputs.
Jwgroves6 –
Easy to set up and great performance. Exactly what is needed for the room it is in.
Troy –
I purchased this receiver to replace an old Yamaha one with only one HDMI port. I initially purchased another Yamaha but just wasn’t able to get the sound back to the levels of the old unit. I switched to the Onkyo and not only did it immediately sound as good as the old Yamaha, the setup microphone made it sound even better. The setup was way easier too.
user790309 –
Been looking to replace older model 7.1 surround sound. This fit perfectly for features and price !
jjrluv –
Really easy to set up. I enjoy the sound. This was a great price point.

I still haven’t received a call about why my receiver was not connected to my speakers.
