Sharp lens! It wasn’t an ‘S’ lens, so I wasn’t sure about it, but I’m very happy with it and it’s clear and sharp. Works great with my Z6.
Kyle –
The quality is good and it works very well. I am satisfied.
Matt –
I like it mostly for street photography and video.

For those of us who have moved into mirrorless arena…Nikon Z fc for me…this is a fast, excellent kit lens. My primary lens is a 18-140 mm Nikkor Z; however, this lens really complements the zoom. The attached photos were taken at sunset with the 40 mm lens earlier this week in the Arkansas Ozark mountains.

Great lens for every day use, small and compact…..
Danman –
Great lens. Great quality. It’s super lite and is a great lens for casual shooting.
Michael –
Great lens. Very compact and light. Not quite as good as the 50 1.8 but for convenience it hits above its weight. Excellent price as well.
BMunster –
This lens is a must-have for the Z5 or really any of the full frame Z series Nikon camera bodies.
It’s small, light, and the clarity and bokeh is….wow. And the colors. Spot on…
bestbuyuser –
Nice lens, very good value. The lens itself is mostly plastic.
MJ2020 –
The z 40mm is an amazing lense that is well worth the money.
Allen –
40mm lens in general are amazing for street photography, but Nikon really did amazing with those one. Super sharp images and f/2 for only $250? It’s simply amazing.
PurDra –
Wow, this lens is sharp. Great images I was shocked as it was inexpensive. Loving the z system. Been a Nikon user for years and they continue to make quality products.
Zed5 –
Great lens. Inexpensive, small and lightweight. Sharp enough and image quality is easily good enough for professional jobs if need be. The build quality isn’t on par with S lenses but it still is nice. Very quiet and quick focusing, almost instant on my Z5. I hope nikon builds more of these for us people who don’t want to spend $1k on S lenses. Like an 85mm or 135mm. That would be sweet.
Review –
The images was clear and sharp. Slight weight on it it, over I truly enjoy it.
Eric007 –
What a fabulous lens. Great for a light setup. I’m using it on a Z6II and the focal distance is very fun to use. It takes the place of both the 35mm and 50mm. Also, having the f2.0 aperture is important for low light situations and portraits. I pair it with the Nikkor Z 24-200 while traveling.
GabSgo –
Great Z lens with wonderful micro contrast. And it won’t break the bank!
computergnome –
Sharp little lens, not so heavy or cumbersome. great focal length for street photography. Reminds me of my Leica rangefinders with a 35mm. Not attention drawing but great images. Sharp, contrasty. Real Bargain.
BFinnmobile –
This lens is a great substitute if you can’t purchase the 50 mm prime Z lens. It performs similarly, but much quieter than the F mount 50 1.8, and it will work great for creating great shots you expect from a prime lens.
Tiago –
It feels as a cheap glass when I bought it, but results are very good for the price of it. I recommend!
mikeb310 –
I have not had as many use cases for the 40mm f/2 lens Z mount lens. I have enjoyed it for its more compact form when traveling. Overall it is great lens but one that I have not used as much as other Z lens to date.

If you already have the kit lens, you may want to pass on this unless you really need the f2. It’s not that this lens is bad, it’s actually excellent, but it’s just that nikon made a really good kit lens. So you will not see an improvement in quality. I got this anyways because I like blurry backgrounds for my portraits and I like shooting prime in general
Evegtz –
This is such an affordable option for a prime, it’s sharp and perfect for portraits if you can’t splurge
KeniaM –
great little powerful lens. Takes very good portrait pictures & for the price , it’s a good lens to have around.
KirtiG –
This is also one of the good lens,]. was looking for it from long time. bought one in thanksgiving. The delivery of the product was late though.

I had no issues with this lens. Great for a certain range of distance.
Jomoraes –
Great basic lens for its price. Matched to a nikon Z5 the value is unbeatable.

The Nikon Nikkor Z 40mm f2 is a great lens for the price.. I get some pretty good images out of it.. I use the lens on my Nikon z30
Chris –
Great little lens, if you dont want to spend tbe extra money on the 35mm 1.8.
Mikes –
Love the quality of images and it helps make my Z6 look pretty good too. This is the perfect little lens as an all around shooter. I’ve even used it to shoot stars at night on a tripod and it was mind blowing how good it was for how affordable it is. Its super good with portraits too
meme –
Nice little prime lens, the best of both worlds from the 35mm and 50mm!
Bean –
Very sharp lens. small and light. Cant complain about anything with the pricetag
jilky –
This is basically the cheapest Nikon Z full frame lens you can buy, but don’t let that fool you. It’s an excellent lens. It will also work on your Nikon Z crop sensor cameras. It’s truly fantastic if you want a light set up for walking around.
AnthonyG –
Just buy it , works like a dream and light as a feather. Image quality is just much more than you could imagine, I have no regrets. Price is right, lens is great, I usually do not buy these type of items from bestbuy but it actually is cheaper here minus shipping time and all. It even has super great insurance for less than 40 for the bestbuy 40mm which I can bring into store for replacement (I highlydoubti will need it but ya never know)
DavidV –
This is a really good lens. At f2 it still has a wide open aperture giving a really nice bokeh affect. The focus is sharp amd fast. Feels like a solid build even though its plastic. Great value for its price.
JNOF –
I’m still a novice to photography, but with wanting to start portraits, I needed a prime lens. This is the most economical for the Z50 that’s close to the 50mm I initially planned to look for. I’m really pleased with the gorgeous photos this lens has allowed me to capture. Great investment!
Unknown –
Best small lens for the Nikon Z series cameras. Ultra compact, great low light shots, fast lens, and great price.
Taylor –
I took this on a trip out west and this was the oerfevt for great landscape shots and ive used it several times for portrsit shoots
JeffreyP –
This lens holds its own agains lenses that are 2-3x the cost. The lens is very sharp and has its own unique flair. I say unique flair because the bokeh isn’t as crips and clean as those high end lenses, but it has its own great look
ChristopherA –
Great little prime lens for walking around with. Nice and light.
Joseph –
Such a great general use lens. Creates nice pictures with depth and feeling.
Steven –
Great little lens. Great for city shots and everyday shooting
Tate –
My go-to lens on my Z6. impressive background-blurring, Very compact and light. Seems a bit overpriced for the build quality but that doesn’t bother me. Something a bit wider for street photography would be nice but I’ll take the F2 aperture over the 28mm/F2.8 lens.
JosephN –
Excellent fixed lens for a Nikon Z camera. Produces excellent quality blow-ups or zoom-ins. Works well in low light.
Jozz –
Its a great lens perfect for all around scenarios!
ChristeenH –
great lens for every day use sharp. I loge that its affordable too.
jeversion1 –
Even though this isn’t a 50mm it’s actually probably more useful. Even though it’s not 1.8 aperture it’s got great bokeh. The price, amazing for its versatility.
Oigaperoque –
It took me a bit to buy it, because it is all plastic and doubt it was good, but I gave it a chance, and use it most of the time I am out with my kids or traveling for work.
DennisL –
After reading and watching reviews online, I decided to pull the plug and get this compact lens. Wow, so amazing. I did not think it would be this great. This lens would blow any of the old G lenses out of the water in the image quality department. Bokeh has character and except for being a little noisy, it can be used for about anything. Good enough for environmental portraits and personal/family documenting.
Only downside is the plastic mount and construction, I don’t know if I want to be removing and re-mounting this lens too much, the mount seems to get frayed with use.

The clarity of these lenses paired with the mirrorless cameras is insane!
Prad4all –
Amazing lens,, Must have for street and portraits! Love it
