Not going to lie, was not sure if the Z6 with 24-70 and 14-30 f4 would have replaced my D3 with 50 f1.8, 85 f1.4, 17-35 f/2.8 and other lenses. BUT it did!!! This camera and with THIS lens is super clean and sharp. With the ISO on the camera, I do not miss the two extra steps with the 2.8.
If you have one of the Z cameras, and you need wide – this is your lens.
Jeff –
Very useful fullframe focal length, and when paired with the crop sensor Z50, you have a 20-45 wide normal. Love it!
PLKNJ –
…and did not buy the Nikkor 14-35 or any non-Z lens. The optics for my Z’s has been nothing less than spectacular and I could not give the Z lenses a higher rating.
BobT732 –
It was a tough choice to go the this lens or the Z 20mm f1.8, In the end I think the 14-30 zoom is best choice for me at this time.
jlee –
Nikon Z S lenses are the best quality. Love this lens for landscape. The fixed 4.0 is not an issue given the high ISO capabilities of the Z6-7.
Birdie –
I’m using this with my new Z6 & it’s absolutely beautiful! I love the way the clouds look like they’re coming toward you in my landscape photos!
PolarBear –
This is a fantastic wide angle lens. The NIKKOR Z 14-30mm has a great focal range, especially for landscape or city photographers. It was the only lens I brought with me on a trip to Italy, and I never found myself wanting or needing a different lens. I also appreciate that this lens has a thread for filters.
Ryan –
Versatile lens that accepts filters, yes please. I use this lens nearly every day.
Camera2020 –
Great for those wide angel photos. Small and light with good quality.
Mackdaddy –
Great lens for landscapes and for capturing large objects when moving back isn’t an option. I bought it on sale and saved a couple hundred bucks.
Payam –
This is a really good leans for what it offers. It is light and compact and gives you a really good range for landscape shoots. The only irritating thing about it is how you have to extend it to be able to start using it. The build quality is also not on par with the Japanese Nikon lenses. But all in all, you would be happy you bought this one.
colForbin88 –
Really enjoying this lens. Offers a great perspective. I have it paired with a z6 and love it.
Ronald –
I love this little lens. Maybe the new 14-24 2.8 might be a little better but I would rather have lighter weight and portability for a landscape lens.
TVgeek –
I have used this lens for about a month now, and pictures are crisp, sharp and excellent. Videos come so natural. Am very pleased with the results
David –
Amazing image quality, nice and compact, terrific overall landscape lends for the Nikon Z cameras.
PMarz –
The fact that I can have a 14mm ultra wide zoom that closes itself down to a manageable size is amazing. PLUS…. can put ND filters on it without any large adapters. Great job, Nikon!
JoeMango –
Previously used a Nikon 16-35 VR, and this lens is a nice upgrade, Sharper, wider, and much more compact. I was sold on this lens when i saw 14mm with 82mm filter threads.
Jess –
Great lens! It is sharp and can use regular filters. Glad I got it
Gabriel –
Love this lens. I could not be happier to have changed my camera to a Z mount. Love the weight, the material and everything. Very sharp.
photographer –
Sharp. For architecture and landscape it’s a r free eat choice. Personally I would rather have a 16-35 2.8 for versatility though.
At F4 it’s really really limited to daytime only shooting, unless you don’t mind noise at low light high iso scenarios.
Size is awesome, but I couldn’t get used to the twist to unlock mechanism. And wayyyyy too expensive.
Returned it.

High-quality glass and a solid build makes for great images.
Compact mode for space-saving fits the downsized theme of mirrorless cameras.
clane967 –
.Best lens for real estate photography. Little distortion at 14mm if you keep all vertical lines straight and level.
DoctorZ –
IF you’re looking for a wide-angle for a Nikon Z camera, this should be on your shortlist. It’s a good price point. It’s likely the best value right now for an ultra wide-angle without having an F-mount lens on an adapter. Very sharp, even wide open. Compact for it’s range and otherwise just works. VR on a Z6II can really help – assume it would be the same with other Z-range cameras with in-body VR.
Tomm –
Wow this is a great lens, so glad I purchased this one.
Cameradanmanstan –
Excellent lens. I was hoping it could be good for a daily, and it is, but I’m missing another 5-10mm of zoom on it. Obviously this is a purpose built lens and for that purpose, it’s unbelievable.
Also, the 2.8 is insane, but not worth the premium IMHO.
johnbeta –
Excellent lens. Sharper than expected even into corners and a very comfortable weight.Well worth the price.
VITAL277 –
Great lens fir the price. With the ability of the new Mirrorless cameras and the ISO capabilities, the f4 is no issue. I have the 14-24 f2.8 as well, but for the price, you cannot beat this lens
Robotti –
Incredibly sharp from end to end. No Parallax. Renders images very nicely.
TimB –
Wonderful for travel–light, compact, and very good image quality
KRPNC –
Beautiful Nikon Z 14-30 Lens! I am looking forward to shooting lots of pictures with this amazing lens with my new Nikon Z7 camera. Thanks to Best Buy for having this in stock.
Great –
So far so good. Im planning on using this lens for landscape and street photography. However i think you can also use it for a great travel lens.
Mike –
Solid landscape wide lens for the money. It’s nice to have an alternative to a high price lens with a lower ap, esp if you’re just getting into wide angle work.
Unknown –
Excellent lens! Great for my z7. Easy to use. Lightweight.
Vijay –
Great wide-angle lens and honestly, I haven’t seen any difference at normal light between this F4 and the higher-priced F2.8. This is perhaps the best value for money wide-angle S lens for Z cameras. Highly recommended!
Greg –
Great lense fast delivery excellent for landscape or street photography use with my z7ii
Rallen –
Excellent lens for the Nikon Z line cameras. Nice focal range for landscape and capturing rocket launches at night.
Picturesmakelifegreat –
If this lens is this amazing I can’t imagine what the 14-24 2.8s is like and God willing I’ll have it to but if I don’t this one is Competition grade.
jsaps33 –
I photograph real estate and needed a wide angle lens. I’ve been shooting on a crop frame camera for years but recently made the jump to mirror-less full frame. This is the best lens to accomplish my goal.
mPalo –
What can I say… 14mm.. f/4 .. with SCREW ON 82mm filter threads!? Anyone whom has carried around a 150mm filter holder and filters knows why this is such a big deal. Tack sharp. Great IQ. I love this lens as a light weight ultra wide option !
LogitechH540 –
Excellent lens. Very sharp at typical F8-F11 landscape aperture ranges. Typical lenses in this focal range are very heavy, expensive and don’t take filters easily. This one is hiking friendly budget friendly and takes standard 82mm screw on filters. If your main purpose is astro photography, the 20 mm Prime lense or the more expensive 14-24 mm 2.8 will let in a lot more light. For general landscape or real estate photography, however, this lens is a great choice in the Nikon Z mount system
SteveBeck –
Nikon Z lens’s are no joke. This f4 lens is so close to my 14-24 z 2.8 in image quality and performance. Much smaller and lighter, great color and sharp! Great option for my z9 when i don’t need 2.8 and want to save weight and size. Also accepts screw in filters which is amazing for such a wide lens.
MotoPixel –
A great compact, excellent quality wide-angle zoom for the Z-System. I consider it a really practical trade-up from my F-mount 14-24 f2.8 and while it’s a stop slower, the ability to use filters I already own and compact size make it a must have lens for the Z-system. Very impressed with the overall image quality at any focal length. Using the lens on a Z9.
Melody –
I do landscape photography and this lens is great: not too big or bulky, and a good range for a wide zoom. Very sharp lens. Auto focus with a switch on the lens to focus manually. Love this lens on my Z7 II.
ScottS –
Very nice addition to Nikon Z system. The lens is sharp and compact!
Alamo –
This is such a great lens for landscape as well as on the go shooting glad I picked it up
Kevin –
Lens was super sharp and well worth the price. Works well on my z50
BlakeL –
Great lens that I use for real estate photography.
AmduS –
Great lens! Light weight and good quality, pretty good for wedding and landscape photography.
DanR –
I shot on a 14-24 f/2.8 F-mount with my Z6 since Nikon released their mirrorless line and I feel like I’m finally enjoying shooting wide with this lens. The 14-30 is very portable and the optics are great. I mainly shoot outdoor adventure sports so a lightweight wide angle has been a game changer. I got this one on clearance for ~30% MSRP. I would strongly consider this lens if you need a wide angle.
My only qualms are the barrel feels very “plastic-y” and it doesn’t have a FN button.
Adrian –
This wide angle lens is super sharp. I use it on my Z6 and am very happy with it. The nice thing about it is that it supports filters – which is rare on a wide angle lens like this.
