I was excited to test the product and its AI capabilities.
This product was marketed a year ago since it finally was released but still, not all features are available, especially regarding its AI-related features.
It’s surprisingly very bulky…and very pricey since you would have to pay for subscriptions as well.

I love everything about my Nextbase iQ. I have been waiting a little over a year since I 1st read about the Nextbase iQ Dash Cam and ever since I installed it I have gotten everything I hoped for.
A true ease in installation with z simple plug into the OBD port. A top quality 4k image in all video playback and the coolest part of the camera have immediate access to see what is around my car while I am away from it!!
With the cost of what I just bought my last car for, putting in this iQ to protect the car and any accidents I may be in is one of teh best investments that I have made!!
WestinR –
Love this dash cam. Set up was super easy and the app was amazingly intuitive. It felt very familiar. Initially I installed it via OBD but ended up hardwiring it (thanks GeekSquad!). The product comes with both options for install. I was suspicious about the LTE connection but once I set up…viola! And the connection has zero to do with your cell phone. Apparently, this item has its own SIM card. But a cool feature is the fact that you can not only view videos, but the app files away instances such as “parking event” and “impact” event (I hit a pothole shortly after installing it). There is a free subscription but you don’t get access to all the features. Not a surprise considering other smart home type products. You do get a free trial for all paid subscriptions and can cancel at any time. Roadwatch AI isn’t yet available (states this in app), but I am excited for this feature! All in all, revolutionary dash cam!

I have been following this product launch for a few years now and I am happy to say that it did not disappoint!
The setup was very intuitive and Nextbase didn’t overlook any of the important details needed to guide someone through the process.
Not only will this dash cam capture the front of the car but also the cabin. I have two kiddos who tend to say the cutest things when my hands are full- problem solved. I have already uploaded a few clips and shared them with all of my friends.

Just put this in my newly driving 16 year old’s car. I get push notifications for parking events, impacts, etc. Apparently the camera knows when someone is approaching the car and puts the video in the cloud…luckily havent needed that yet. Subscription for the 4g connection is free for 3minths so you can check it out.
NorthsideChi –
First, installing and getting set up on the app was pretty straightforward and easy.
Video quality is top notch! You can see all the street signs and license plate numbers with ease.
I love there’s motion detection which will trigger the iQ to start recording. This is especially useful because I park on city streets and for when I’m running errands.
I can view the history of my drives and it will tell me my location and tell me how fast I’m going.
All around I’m really impressed by what the iQ can do! Def recommend it.

Easy set up, great features with an intuitive app. The negative reviews are from people who can’t afford the subscription. You already spent $700 on the unit, what’s another $200? Also, this is a work in progress which will only get better with time. If you want the best dash cam, this is it. I also have the 522GW. That cam is ok but the app is horrible. This cam with the app is great.

This review is for the NextBase iQ 4K smart dash cam without the rear camera. This is the third or fourth dashcam that I have owned, and so far, I like this new NextBase iQ. The box has everything you need to connect the dashcam to any vehicle. It comes with the camera and its two attached antennas, a couple of wire ties (zip ties), warning stickers, an extra 3M double-sided sticker, a tool to hide (tuck) wires, a clip to hold the wire on a solid surface, an OBD port connection wire, and four (4) different types of fuse-type connection wire. This camera has front and cabin (cockpit) side cameras, and the rearview camera is optional. The double camera feature makes this dashcam great for rideshare drivers or when you want to record your passengers. Because of privacy issues when recording inside your car, it is highly recommended to place the sticker both on the outside of the car and inside.
Setup is super quick and easy with the Nextbase iQ app installation wizard (guide). I chose the easiest of the connection wires, the OBD port connector. After the connection, the dashcam will get power, and you will get a barcode on the cam display screen, which I had to scan with my phone camera. This will link the device to the iQ app. The device will undergo a software update. Then you will be guided to place the camera and hide the wires. After that, you will choose your plan type: monthly or yearly (get 20% off with the yearly). There are two types of plans: (1) Protect (which is basic) and (2) Protect Plus. Whichever plan you choose, you get three (3) months of a free trial.
There is no video screen view on the dashcam; to view recordings or live views, you must use your mobile device. There is a small display that shows recording, motion, and parking. The night vision quality is very good. Note that the cabin (cockpit) camera records night vision in black and white. The daytime 4K view is the best I have seen compared to my older dashcams. Some of the issues that this new solution solves are high-memory storage (SD cards) and cloud storage. I don’t know which cellular company it uses for its full 4G connection, but so far I have not had an issue with the connection. On a mobile device, you can view all of the cameras live with a 4G cellular connection from a remote location. This is great for protecting your vehicle when it senses a movement, it sends you a notification to the iQ app. It can sense and activate the smart view when there are pedestrians, cyclists, and other cars. Another great feature is that the camera records the GPS location, which will be great to use as evidence. There is an option within the app for privacy to turn off the GPS. I tested the “witness mode,” and it does great at storing and sharing recordings with a loved one whenever you experience different emergencies like road rage or a police stop. The view is not only stored in the cloud and internal memory but it is also transmitted live streams with the people I selected to share. The witness mode and the emergency SOS are very useful and maybe even life-saving features.
This device and the cost of the plans are worth all the features and benefits it offers as a smart device. Are you willing to pay more for security and safety for yourself, your passengers, and your property? I am extremely satisfied with this Nextbase iQ dashcam, and I highly recommend it.

I’ve had several dash cams over the years. Most were good, but all left something to be desired. Enter the Nextbase iQ 4K. This is really a step forward in dash cams. The device is very well made and doesn’t feel like a cheap plastic toy like all the others I have had. Set up is very easy with the app guiding the way. In terms of what you need to do, it is really just a matter of mounting it and running the cable to your OBD II port. Everything else is done on your phone. The forward facing 4K camera gives a very clear image that even looks good at night (an area most dash cams struggle with). The cab camera, although a lower resolution, also gives an excellent image. An optional rear window camera is available, but I don’t have one yet. A note regarding running the power. The optimal way to connect the camera is with the OBD II port. However, a very well thought out optional fuse box connection is also provided. In my case, I purchased an OBD II splitter so I can keep an open port for use with a code reader and it works perfectly. The app is where everything comes together. There are two subscription plans depending on the features you require. I personally think you get a lot for your money with these subscriptions. Real time alerts if something happens while you are away from your car, ability to communicate (and watch) what is going on if you let someone else is using the car, automatic 911 service and even the ability to activate a witness mode in the event of such things as a road rage episode (you can have it send the recording to a contact of your choosing). And it can do so much more. Keep in mind that you can use this unit without a subscription, but it is very limited as most of the features require the 4G signal that the subscription plan provides. So really, it is much more than a dash cam. It’s more like an automated camera/security/safety system. I have no complaints whatsoever with the Nextbase iQ 4K and really think it is something everyone should have.

As an avid Hyundai Elantra EG driver, I’m always on the lookout for accessories that enhance my driving experience and safeguard my vehicle. The Nextbase iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam emerged as a top contender, promising exceptional video quality, advanced features, and seamless integration with my Elantra EG. Eager to put it to the test, I embarked on a journey that would transform my perception of dash cams. From the moment I opened the box, I was impressed by the Nextbase iQ 4K’s sleek design and compact size. It fit seamlessly into my Elantra EG’s dashboard, blending in harmoniously with the car’s aesthetic. The installation process was a breeze, thanks to the included suction mount and clear instructions. Upon powering up the dash cam, I was greeted by a user-friendly interface that made it easy to navigate the various settings and features. The high-resolution display provided a crystal-clear view of the road ahead, even in bright sunlight. The heart of the Nextbase iQ 4K lies in its exceptional video recording capabilities. Capturing footage in stunning 4K Ultra HD, it captured every detail of the road, from license plates and road signs to the subtle movements of pedestrians and vehicles. The 140-degree wide-angle lens ensured that no incident or detail would go unnoticed. Beyond its impressive video quality, the Nextbase iQ 4K boasts a plethora of advanced features that elevate it above the competition. The built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity allowed me to effortlessly transfer recorded footage to my smartphone or tablet, making it easy to share or store for future reference. The GPS tracking feature proved to be an invaluable asset, meticulously recording my location and speed alongside the video footage. This information could be crucial in the event of an accident or insurance claim, providing indisputable evidence of my whereabouts and driving behavior. The automatic incident detection feature added an extra layer of security, automatically initiating recording and saving footage in the event of a sudden impact or abrupt change in motion. This gave me peace of mind knowing that even if I was momentarily distracted, the dash cam would capture the critical moments. The voice control proved to be a game-changer, allowing me to operate the dash cam hands-free. With simple voice commands, I could start or stop recording, adjust settings, and even access playback, all without taking my eyes off the road. The parking mode transformed my Elantra EG into a vigilant sentinel, automatically activating recording when the car was parked and unattended. This provided an extra layer of protection against theft or vandalism, deterring potential culprits and capturing any suspicious activity. Throughout my experience with the Nextbase iQ 4K, I was consistently impressed by its ease of use and intuitive design. The menu system was straightforward, and the controls were easily accessible, even while driving. I highly recommend this dash cam to any driver seeking a comprehensive and reliable safety solution. Its exceptional video quality, advanced features, and user-friendly design have transformed it into a guardian angel, safeguarding my vehicle and providing peace of mind on every journey.

As someone who spends a large amount of time in their car for work and play, I’ve always been curious about adding a dash cam to my vehicles. The Nextbase iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam is the first dash cam I’ve owned, and it just might be the last as this dash cam checks every box on my wish list. Not only does it offer protection while driving, the iQ will also watch over your vehicle while it’s parked and left unattended. There are a number of current features that I’ve started using with the Nextbase ProtectPlus plan through their subscription model. Without the subscription there are available features, but the iQ 4K really shines with one of the Nextbase plans.
Overall Experience – The Nextbase iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam is relatively easy to set up. Download the Nextbase iQ app and power on the dash cam. Scan the QR code on the dash cam and the set up process is under way. Connecting the dash cam and app is straight forward, then it’s just a matter of setting up the user preferences and getting the cam properly mounted. Nextbase provides a couple of 3M sticky mounts, so locate a spot that doesn’t block your line of sight and then stick it in place. I connected my unit with the supplied 16” OBD power cable that plugs in under my drive side dashboard. The hardest part was hiding the cabling as my car’s A pillars hold the curtain airbags and the fitment was very tight around the windshield. Eventually I was able to get it snaked down under the dash to the OBD outlet. The ironic part is once the unit is mounted and set up, it kind of just does its thing, nothing fancy, just a very good insurance/guardian for you and your vehicle!
Features:
If you’re looking to protect your car and stay on top of any potential threats, the Nextbase iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam is a great option. This dash cam has a sleek design and features Live View, SmartSense parking, and Witness Mode, etc. which all work together to give you a complete view of your car’s surroundings and alert you of any potential dangers. And in case of emergency, the dash cam has an SOS response feature to get you help quickly. Plus, with its always-on 4G connection, you can access your data anytime and anywhere, making it a convenient option for those always on-the-go. Overall, the Nextbase iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam is a reliable way to protect your car and stay connected while you’re away.
4K Recording – This was one of the features that really impressed me on this cam. The true 4K output allows for easy viewing of the outside world around your vehicle. This is particularly important in the case of any type of accident, incident, etc. The details are captured in clear and viewable detail.
Witness Mode – In today’s world with road rage and other incidents on the rise, Witness Mode is a great option to alert 3rd parties of your current situation. Simply use voice commands to begin recording and sharing with your pre-determined emergency contacts.
Emergency SOS – another potential life-saving option that sends out an automated notice to emergency services in the event of a detected serious accident.
Always on 4G connection – allows the Nextbase iQ to be left on and connected at all times, even if you’re not in the vehicle. It also provides quick remote access to any recordings stored on the iQ cam unit.
Pros:
– 4K recording capabilities provides evidence-worthy video capture
– Ease of set up with OBD cable, plenty of other direct connect options provided as well
– Well-made dash cam base unit, high quality fit and finish
– Emergency SOS, Witness and Parking mode and live feeds options
– Always on 4G connection for use while not in vehicle and easy remote access to video files
– Parking Mode – Ability to keep an eye on your vehicle when it’s unattended is a game-changer
– GPS tracking feature – another data point for evidence in a crash or other incident
– 64GB SD card pre-installed for data retention
Cons:
– Had a bit of a challenge scanning the QR code to start the set up process
– Although there are several features available without a plan, to really take advantage of this dash cam, purchasing a monthly/yearly subscription is essentially required.
– There are a couple of features that are not currently available as of the release of the iQ 4K
TVProducer –
First off do not be mislead by the way I titled my review. The Nextbase iQ 4K Smart Dashcam with 4G/GPS is an incredible product in many ways which far outweigh the cons of the subscription model. Firstly let’s talk Field of View and Quality. This dashcam can perfectly capture the entire front of your car’s area and your entire car’s cabin while not sacrificing any audio either. The night vision is quite impressive to say the least for a dashcam of this caliber and it doesn’t give up much detail in the dead of night. The quality of the design video and audio is second to none.
The features in this dashcam are top tier and impressive to say the least. Firstly this dashcam is 4G enabled, that means that you can at any time access this dash camera without being in or near the car. The alerts are almost instantaneous to your smartphone and very easy to playback. I had my car in the shop for some work and was able to easily connect and check the dashcam playback and even live as they did work. Gives a bit of big brother vibes, I know, but making sure my car isn’t going somewhere it shouldn’t or (insert paranoid car owner horror story here) is important. The Smart Sense Parking works EXTREMELY well… I’d say possibly too well. Every time I got back in my car it triggered an alert of a Parking Event, even before I opened the door. Now, when away from your car, its amazing. When coming back to your car every single time getting a push notification can get a bit annoying but that is no fault of the product. You just know it works well.
Let’s talk about the main cons I have, the Protect Plus feature set as I mentioned is absolutely incredible however that feature set comes with a ~$200/Year (or $17 a month if you divide by 12) price tag. That is a steep investment in the subscription model for a dash cam. Granted, you are given a lot of features once you pay it. However, if you choose to go with the Free tier, expect that 90% of the features of this dashcam become locked out to you. When purchasing this unit it’s important to be sure to factor in the cost of that subscription as an operating cost along with the capital cost of the camera itself. For me the $200.00 subscription is worth the price tag for what you get, but if you are looking for a non-cloud-based product this may not be the product for you as it highly relies on the cloud to function along with the 4G connectivity, which again, is included in that subscription. Case Study… if you live in an area where car theft is rampant, wouldn’t it be great to open your phone and show the police a picture of the guy who stole your car, and a live video of him jamming out to Taylor Swift as he tries to get away with your vehicle including his GPS location? That scenario, although funny, is exactly where this product shines. Someone stealing your car may not think it’s a camera that is connected live to the cloud… furthermore, if they see that dashcam, they may think twice of taking it for a joyride.
If you want the highest tech dashcam that is on the market today with AI technology, cloud-based replay, and a slew of other impressive features you can look no further than the iQ 4K. However, if you only want local recording (to an SD Card), and basic peace of mind when it comes to a Dash Cam, the Nextbase, may be a bit much for your liking because you are wasting 90% of the features if you don’t want to subscribe to the additional feature set.

Let’s start with the easy stuff, install. Installation is super easy if you use the included OBD connector cable. Although this assumes you’re not using the OBD port for something else already since you can only have one thing plugged into it at a time but otherwise its quick and easy one wire to run and that’s it. I will note though that the larger base of the camera, the part that mounts to the window, might be somewhat problematic if your car has a large tunnel or camera cover in the middle of the window. My car has this, and it means that the camera sits a little more off center than I would normally like but the wide angle view means even with that I still get everything in front of the car as expected from a dash cam. One other note they do include a standard hardwire kit with a bunch of different fuse tap sizes as well you just have to make sure you have a good ground point nearby if you’re going to do it that way. Overall, I like the flexible options they give you for wiring up the camera and it’s really a set it and forget it kind of install because of that.
Once the camera is installed setup is super easy as well. Just install the app on your phone and follow the prompts which include scanning a QR code on the device to “pair” it to the app. The camera has a cell connection, so it uses that to do all the initial setup. I will note that you should make sure you have a decent amount of time set aside for this because it will want to update the cameras firmware in the process and that can take a little bit of time. Also, I imagine if you live in an area with weak cell coverage this process might be a little more painful.
Now just as a note to get the “full” functionality of this camera you do need to subscribe to their service for it of which there are two tiers but that’s mainly because a lot of the features are cloud based and require the cell service and I’m assuming that monthly/annual fee covers the cost involved in those things. I’m not going to comment on the monthly cost in this review because at the time of testing not all the features of the service are done yet (this review being done in early November 2023). The “Guardian Mode” and “Roadwatch A.I.” are both still listed as “Coming Soon” whatever timeframe that means I have no idea so just keep that in mind if you’re looking to buy this camera. It does seem like you get a three month “trial” subscription though so that’s a plus if you use it and find out you really don’t care about those features.
As for the camera function itself, the video quality on the 4K unit I have is pretty good for a dash cam, and even facing directly into a setting sun it was capable of still giving a decent enough camera image to tell what was going on in front of the vehicle. Now to get the best quality video you do need to take time to download a high-quality version of the clips since most of the previews are lower quality. This seems reasonable since you’re getting the initial clips through a cell connection. Also, the parking mode is nice to have especially if you live in an apartment or something and can’t keep an eye on your car all the time. It’s nice having that extra little bit coverage if something does happen.
Overall I think this is a decent camera I just wish all the advertised features where actually ready to use. For the features I could use the remote access to the camera through the app when I’m not near the car is nice and the parking feature (because of the constant power from the OBD) is great too. I think once all the features are available to use this will be a great dashcam overall until then it’s qualifies as a “good” buy in my book.
PsykoPup –
I agree with another review on here that this dash cam is not ready for primetime. The Nextbase IQ has great potential, I just experienced a lot of issues with it. To start with something positive, one feature that is really on its side is the ease of [physically] installing it. The included ODB cord makes it very easy to plug the camera right in to the ODB port of your car. Tuck away the generously long cord and the camera is powered up. The other positive feature of this dash cam is the excellent 4K image quality. Videos are very detailed and clear.
In order to interact with the camera, you need to install the companion app. After installing it on my Galaxy s22 Ultra, I hit the first road block. To connect the camera to the app, you need to scan a QR code on the camera’s tiny display. That was quite a challenge and took numerous attempts. After I was finally able to scan the QR code, the app took a little while to add the camera. It seemed to “buffer” for a while; then, it gave me a message that it failed to connect to the camera. I then had to start all over over, with scanning the QR code. It took 3 times before I was able to finally get the app to add the camera. Sheesh!
The next challenge was the fact that the app needed to install a firmware update. This also took numerous attempts because it kept failing. I finally realized that it seemed to be failing because my phone’s screen was timing out before the installation was complete. I’m not sure if this is coincidental or not, but the time it finally worked was when I kept my phone awake by constantly touching the screen.
I have to note that I did not follow the installation steps exactly as instructed by the app. I skipped the step where it said to mount the camera on the windshield. I wasn’t quite sure where I wanted to place it on my windshield and wanted to be able to play around with the best spot. Well, that was a mistake and brought to light a big limitation of this camera. You cannot view live images from the camera, on the app, without a monthly paid subscription. The one time during the installation process is the only time you can view a live image on the camera without paying for it. I was very surprised and disappointed by this limitation.
Consequently, I signed up for the free, 3-month trial subscription. OK. Now I can concentrate on the best spot to mount the camera. Wrong! Because this camera NEEDS a 4G connection to communicate with the app, I was still not able to view a live image. I live in an area where this is only 1 cell tower and it only has AT&T service on it. During all this time, I picked up the camera off my dash, and was a bit shocked by how hot the camera was. I’m not sure if this is because the camera was in a constant state of trying to get a cell signal. It’s the only thing I could think of because I’ve noticed that if my phone is having poor reception, it can sometimes feel a bit warmer than normal. This camera was HOT. This makes me very nervous because I live in Las Vegas and the summers get around 115. (It was currently 75 degrees.) I reported this to Nextbase tech support and they said the camera is designed to shut down if it gets too hot. Now I’m thinking… will this camera even work during the summer here? At this point, I just unplugged the camera and decided to try again the next time I headed out, away from home and closer to more cell towers and better reception.
The next day, when out and about, I tried the camera again. I brought up the app and was prompted to install an update. The most notable upgrade was the addition of Bluetooth connectivity. I got excited that this might help in areas of no/low cell reception and viewing images. Customer service said that Bluetooth was added to only assist with eSOS. It does not help with viewing live images from the camera, even if you’re right next to the camera. Anyway, in an area with good cell reception, I was able to view live images from the camera on the app. On the drive home, the camera worked as expected. One quirky thing did happen though. I just missed passing through a stop light, so I was there for a “normal” full cycle of a stop light. Once the light turned green, I received a parking event alert. Apparently, while at the stop light, the camera thought I was parked. I have yet to replicate this.
This is a pretty expensive dash cam. With all the issues I experienced, I can’t say that I would recommend this to anyone… especially with having to pay a monthly subscription to view any images files on the app. I feel like for the price, the Bluetooth connectivity should allow you to view images from the camera’s SD card and, for easier set up purposes, allow you to view live images when right by the camera. Then, if you want all the other fancy features like the the voice commands, remote features and viewing live images from the camera when not near your car, then you can pay for the monthly subscription. I have another dash cam, in my kids car, that probably contributed to my high expectations for this camera. With the other dash cam, at a cheaper price, I am able to view images from camera’s SD card on the companion app… without a monthly subscription. With the IQ dash cam, without a subscription, you would have to remove the SD card and insert it into your computer in order to view the stored files. Lacking this basic (unpaid) functionality, this camera is definitely not worth $700.

I have owned a few dash cameras, but I wanted one that would send me alerts when something was happening to my car and also did not rely on an internal battery. Therefore, I was curious to see if the Nextbase iQ 4K Smart dashcam would meet these needs.
Setup was easy, but I did have a hard time scanning the QR code on the camera screen with my iPhone 13 pro. I would recommend getting a good idea of where to place the camera before taking off the film from VHB tape on the speaker’s back. The camera can adjust back and forth, but make sure that it’s vertical before sticking it to the windshield, since it does not adjust side to side or up and down. It needs to be connected to the car’s battery using the OBD connector or the fuse box to power the camera. It is worth noting that the OBD connector does not contain a passthrough, so the camera would need to be disconnected if the OBD connector is needed.
Video/Voice features
I was pretty happy with how clear the video feed was for both the front- and cabin-facing camera. I tried the voice features, and the camera was responsive to my commands. Since I work in a retail setting, I had to set the proximity sensors for the Smart Sense Parking closer to the vehicle because otherwise I was getting a lot of notifications. It is pretty easy to adjust, but I would like for a GPS setting to determine how the sensors send alerts. I did not experience any issues with this camera draining my car’s battery since it has a feature to prevent this, but I would like for the camera to provide feedback on the health of my car’s battery and warn me if it detects an issue.
All the features of this camera performed well, but the Roadwatch AI and Guardian Mode were not active as of this review.
Cost
I feel the biggest drawback of this great camera is the monthly/yearly cost. If you choose to not pay a monthly fee, the camera only sends text notifications and still has voice control. I believe this camera uses T-Mobile’s 4G network, so that would explain why the price is about the same as a wearable device. However, I would like to be able to add this camera to my phone carrier’s network and perhaps get a little better pricing.
In sum, if you are looking for a future-proof camera that seems to keep adding features and don’t mind spending $10-$20 a month to get the most out of it, then this is the absolute best camera you can get. However, if do not want the monthly cost added to a pricey camera, there are other options that may better suit.

This dashcam created a lot of buzz when it was announced and was even given some “Best of” awards for all of the smart features it has. You’ve got 4k recording, Live view, SmartSense Parking, Witness mode, Emergency SOS response, Roadwatch AI, and Guardian mode. I won’t get into detail about what all of these do, or are supposed to do, but you can see all of that on their website.
So what does it *actually* do? Well, it does do 4k video, and it’s very clear, as well as infrared night vision which is actually pretty clear as well.
It also does send alerts when the vehicle is parked. However, I have gotten “Impact” alerts when I know for a fact nothing impacted or was even close to my vehicle because I was looking right at it. And I’ve gotten “Parking Event” alerts, but when I click on the notification and it takes me to the iQ app, it takes me to the Live view and then under “Events” it says there are none. I have to go to the video history to see any recorded event.
And not only that, but when you click on a notification and it opens the app, it goes through a 20-30 seconds long loading process where it’s “Waking iQ”, then “Connecting to Live Stream”, then “Retrieving video”. So if there is an event and you want to see what’s going on, the event may be over by the time you get the video up. And the actual “Live” view is delayed by several seconds as well. So you can always check the recorded video, which is saved to the installed SD card as well as backed up to the cloud, but don’t think you’re going to be able to see events as they’re happening.
And the timestamps on the video can be confusing as well. Nextbase is a UK based company and apparently the date is in the format they use, where it’s day/month/year, so 11/7/23 will look like 7/11/23. And there’s no way to change the date format that I can find. The time stamp is even weirder. I’m not even sure what it’s based off of, but even though you can (and I have) set my timezone, it seems to be ignoring it.
Witness mode seems to work fine, and I can’t really test the Emergency SOS response. Then there’s Guardian mode and Roadwatch AI. Those features are not even available yet (says “Coming Soon”. The rear camera also isn’t available until 11/12, but I have ordered it to actually have 360 degree coverage, so we’ll see how it works.
And a most of these features require a monthly subscription in order to use. From $10-$20/month. Yes, per month. Whether that’s worth it or not is up to you. It may be if the features it’s supposed to have get added and work as they should. Hopefully some firmware updates will fix some of the issues because it really has a lot of potential. And there is a free trial to try out the features to see if they are useful to you or not.
But the install was super simple though and the app seems to work fine (other than the speed of loading). So hopefully they get the issues worked out and the features added because I really want to like this product, but it’s just not there, yet.

The Nextbase IQ 4K is awesome. First off, this is not a full in depth review. Besides the intial hefty price, it offers so much for a dashcam. People complaining about not all features are ready out of the box I get it, but those features will be out soon and Im sure it will be worth the wait. This cam has great video quality external and cabin view. The app is easy to use and if you have the subscription, it is worth the cost. I can tap in live stream to check on vehicle or browse my travel history remotely without a hitch. I love that it senses things around the vehicle, particularly if you happen to park in a not so great area of town for w.e reason you can see if anyone is snooping around. I can give the wife full access to the library or recieve alerts as a secondary person on the app. This cam gives a great piece of mind to have as a safeguard if ever an accident or extra vehicle security. I would highly recommend and would purchase again.

the Nextbase iQ 4K dash cam does way more than i thought a dash cam was capable of. I was looking into getting one just to have just in case because of some close calls and i saw this. the amount of features was almost suspicious, like how could it do all that.
there’s no display on the camera to keep it compact, but you can review footage and do live view on your phone, so if you have a phone mount on your dash you could use that. It gives a very crisp view Infront of you and in your cabin. I imagine this is very handy if you’re doing ride sharing, to have video of your cabin/passengers for everyone’s safety.
while setup is straight forward and easy to setup, it can be finicky depending on where you are because you need a clear signal to get the GPS to track and find you and to get a solid 4G connection. on the rear screen you can see status of data connection, GPS and what’s going on (parking, recording, etc). In my suburban driveway with no trees nearby or tall buildings, i had trouble connecting the first night. the GPS was red (no signal) and i couldn’t view live feed. kept restarting and no luck. reached out to tech support and they gave me instructions. next morning went to try again to follow their tests and suddenly it just started working and has been working since.
What’s nice is even if my car is off and i’m in the house, i can open the app and it will ping and wake up the camera allowing me to get a live view inside and in front of the camera. the other night i heard loud exhaust noises in the middle of the night and it sounded like my vehicle, so i woke up the camera, saw that it was still empty and in the driveway and then went back to sleep.
the GPS is sweet too because when you open the app, not only do you have both cameras at the bottom but in the background is your location on google maps, so you can easily find where your car is.
i haven’t had a chance to test the AI smart sense parking but i set up the motion zones, don’t tend to park near other cars, so thankfully hasn’t needed to be used.
Witness mode is handy because you can set up an emergency contact and should something happen like an altercation with passengers/passerby’s/law enforcement/etc they’ll get a link and video which seems very helpful these days
as far as installation, its pretty straight forward, setup the camera on the app and then stick it to the glass and run the wire. It sticks out a little further than i’d like past my mirror but that is no fault of the camera, my car has a very wide trim cover around the mirror because of the radar for lane keep and speed sign camera. Otherwise i’d probably have been able to move it higher and hide it nicer. it would have been nice to have a bit more articulation. it only goes up and down on a fixed arm, so moving it up also moves the angle up. some side to side would be nice to ensure you can level the image
as far as powering it, you can use the OBD2 port under your dash or you can use the add a fuse adapter they provide. they actually provide 4 different sizes so no matter what kind of car you have, you should be able to use one of the adapters depending on your cars fuse shape.
The subscription is a bit pricey but there’s different tiers based on what features you are interested in/need. not sure if i’d be keeping the highest one long term, we’ll see how i get on with using it in the day to day and what i tend to use feature wise

I have been waiting for this dash cam to launch and I am so glad I waited! Lives up to my expectations for a truly smart dash camera. The set up was SO easy with the OBD connector. The videos are crisp and clear and the app was so easy to use. With responsive voice commands, the dash cam is also hands free. Makes me feel safer while driving with all these crazies on the road!

The Nextbase IQ 4K has been eagerly anticipated for over a year since it was announced. This camera is billed as a “smart” dash camera with always-connected features via LTE, and in many ways it delivers on those promises at release. There are a few features that are not yet available at launch but are listed in the app as “coming soon.” In addition to the “coming soon” features, a few aspects of the camera are frustrating especially for an ultra-premium device. Still, this is hands-down the best video quality of any dash camera that I’ve used or compared via online video platforms.
The install experience for the Nextbase iQ was simply amazing. Nextbase includes a variety of power cables to allow you to connect to constant power via the fusebox or OBD connector in almost any kind of vehicle. You most likely will not need to tap another power wire to get constant power to this device – I just found a circuit that had constant power and pulled the fuse and plugged in the Nextbase adapter, which you then plug your fuse back into the adapter. The setup video you’re directed to as soon as you scan the QR code in the box makes things super easy to understand as well.
Video quality on my 4K unit is incredible. The video format is 3840×2160 at 30fps, stored using the HEVC codec. Videos seem to average around 150 MB per 30 second clip, which comes out to about 4 hours of video stored on the included 64GB microSD card before it rolls over and records over previous files. The fidelity of these videos is amazing – this is not a “fake” 4K dash cam by any stretch. For the first time with a dash cam I’m able to clearly read license plates for cars passing my vehicle in other lanes, even at high speed differentials. While stopped in a turn lane, you can pause frames and read the plates of vehicles passing at 40mph in the other lanes. It’s almost GoPro level quality in that sense. It also does a very good job at night in low light. I was still able to read plates while driving down an unlit neighborhood street. Really amazing. The cabin facing camera is very good as well, and suitably wide angle that it can easily cover both front seats from pretty much any reasonable mounting position on your windshield.
Feature wise, it’s a bit of a mixed bag with the Nextbase iQ. The included 4G connection is via the T-mobile network, so if you are in a poor T-mobile area then the benefits of the premium subscription are either frustrating or downright useless. Unfortunately, my home is in an area with abysmal T-mobile so it’s basically impossible to access the camera without removing the SD card. Even the Bluetooth connection you can make to your phone doesn’t seem to improve the connection speed for downloading videos. I’m quite frankly a little shocked that it doesn’t have wifi (at least, there’s no way to configure wifi via the Android app, although the feature is mentioned on the Nextbase site). On the bright side, when parked at work the connection is very fast so the SmartSense parking feature works very well and it’s very easy to play back videos when notified of a “parking event.” SmartSense only powers up and transmits recordings when it detects an event (even a proximity based one – not just G-force or motion) which helps both with your recording time on battery as well as the amount of storage space you’re using. Likewise, downloading clips when the camera is in a strong service area is quick and easy. The other two “smart” features of the iQ aren’t available yet as of Nov 2023 (Guardian mode and Roadwatch AI) so I can’t comment on those. I’m also a little surprised that there isn’t any lane departure or collision avoidance capability available on the iQ at launch – perhaps that will be included in the AI features later?
Overall, this is a phenomenal dash cam in terms of quality, easily the best video quality I’ve ever seen from a dash cam. If you live in a poor T-mobile service area, the “smart” features are a mixed bag at best and I can’t believe there’s no way to use a wifi connection. Nextbase says the camera supports up to a 256GB microSD card, which I will definitely be upgrading to so I can get more recording time when in a poor 4G area. If there were an easier way to transfer videos to the cloud (by wifi or Bluetooth to a cell phone) then this camera would be easily worth the high upfront and subscription costs. As it sits now, I’d think hard about the value if you have questionable Tmo coverage in your area.

I’ve been wanting to get a dash cam for a very long time; I live in Arizona, and the average driver out here does about 20 mph OVER the limit always, NEVER uses turn signals, and we have a horrible accident rate as well, so getting a dash cam is a very smart thing out here, and, being a tech nut, I was thrilled to see that someone came out with a 4k/very communicative dash cam. I knew of Next bases high quality reputation, so once these was released, I was happy to get one..unfortunately, the rear window cam wasnt available initially, so I could only get the front cam.
Installation was done by Best buy, as I have bad arthritis in my hands and other neck issues, but I was impressed that it only took the installer about 10 minutes to get the whole job done..nice work, Best Buy!
The camera worked right out of the box, and I was immediately impressed with the high quality of the camera, and how easy it was to get around in the app.
I wasnt happy with the pricing for the subscription to get all the features its offers to work, plus, 2 of the main features I wanted, “guardian mode” and Roadwatch AI arent even available yet, so it remains to be seen how those 2 things actually work once released.
Their tech support has been great and responsive with some minor issues/questions I have had, and I am looking forward to those 2 “features” being released quickly; once they are, I will grab the rear window camera and add it to the system, as I feel its very important out here to get coverage on what goes on behind me.
Yes, this system is pricey, but it has several things that no other dash cam has at any price, so if you love tech, and want the latest and greatest features, this dash cam should be on your short list!

I have the Nextbase 622GW in my truck. I wanted this dash cam for my wife’s car. She has a long commute to work and this dash cam has a lot of features that I like.
For installation, you have two options. One is running the power cable to the fuse box, the other option (which I chose) is to use the OBDII port. This is the diagnostic port that mechanics use to scan the check engine light on your vehicle. I followed the instructions which indicate to complete the setup before mounting it to the windshield. This is where I ran into issues. You download the Nextbase IQ app and follow the prompts. It states that it will put a QR code on the screen, you then scan that with the app to connect it. After five attempts and 30 minutes of trying, I gave up. I then tried it in my truck and it worked instantly. I was able to get the QR code to come up and scan it with my phone. Once paired, I then was able to install it in her car. I’m not sure what was causing it to not connect in her car, but I was able to get around it. I then mounted it and tucked the cable.
I like that I can watch live video anytime through the app. I was able to watch as my wife was driving to work. It’s clear video and I didn’t experience any lag or buffering. Of course, this will depend on cell service where the vehicle is. There are several safety features with this dash cam. First, if there is ever something that needs to be recorded, you can ask it to start witness mode. This will start a recording and notify whomever you choose and they will get a live feed from the camera. It has SmartSense Parking which watches over things while you are parked. In the app you can adjust the range that it is sensing all around the vehicle. For example, I have it set to closer to the sides of the vehicle and further out in the front and rear. I figure this will help avoid false alarms when someone parks next to you, but will still alert me if someone gets close to the doors. It will also automatically alert 911 in the event you are in an accident and unresponsive. Even though it is “always on”, it will detect your vehicle’s battery level and turn off if the battery level begins to get too low. There are two features that are not available yet. Guardian Mode and Roadwatch AI. When available, Roadwatch AI will show the approximate speed and distance of vehicles near you.
As far as things that I don’t like, it’s hard at this price point to justify buying a product with some of its features “coming soon”. I feel like it should be a completely finished product before it’s launched. Also, this camera/mount are quite large. I also don’t like that it is subscription based (you don’t have to have a subscription, but to use all of the features you will need a subscription). I understand that you are getting a lot of features, but to spend this much on a dash cam and then have to continue to pay for it in perpetuity is a lot to ask. However, with that said, it does give me peace of mind knowing that it is watching over my wife. I know if anything ever happens I will know instantly. That is worth it to me. I do recommend this dash cam and know that with updates all of the features will be available soon with the ability for them to add more in the future.

The IQ4K kit ships with the IQ camera, ODB to USB-C power cable, hardwire kit, extra adhesive mount, and mounting/wiring tools. The camera has two lenses, front and cabin facing. No rear window camera is included, although one is available for purchase as an optional accessory. Physical installation via ODB port is nearly as easy as the typical DC outlet plug method. It’s merely a slightly different plug location and style. There are hardwiring options also available if preferred, but the ODB port option works fine for me. I connected the plug to the camera, plugged the other end into my easily accessible ODB port underneath the left side of the dash, affixed the camera to the windshield via the 3M tape mount, hid the wires for aesthetics, and I was done. The IQ can slide off of the adhesive mount if desired for use in a second vehicle or other purposes.
Camera activation and app setup were where my problems began and it all went rapidly downhill from there. After installing the app and connecting the camera to the ODB port in my vehicle as instructed, the camera powered on and the app instructed me to scan the QR code on the camera’s small LCD display to pair the camera. The tiny high gloss display had a huge amount of reflectivity and my phone camera had a lot of trouble avoiding the reflections and focusing on the QR code. I was also initially trying to set everything up in the evening after work, but quit after it proved to be an exercise in futility, even with supplemental lighting. I tried again the following day during daylight and, after numerous tries, the phone finally read the code. Problem number two then occurred as the camera screen displayed a message stating the camera failed to update and a circular connection indicator on the camera screen kept spinning. Eventually the spinning stopped and the app displayed a message that the camera was unavailable.
I power-cycled the camera by removing and reinserting the power cable from the camera’s USB port which caused it to enter pairing mode again. However, I then ended up in an annoying cycle of scanning the QR code numerous times, finally connecting, and then the camera immediately disconnecting. Each time the camera lost contact I was presented with three options to contact Nextbase support (email, chat, or call). Instead, I kept opting to reboot the camera and try again. I was already out of patience by that point, but persisted nonetheless, I eventually made it past the loop, the camera connected to the app/phone and I was finally able to see live video from both lenses displayed in the app. I clicked to verify that the recorded footage looked good and I was then taken to an account creation screen. I thought I was finally good to go.
Wrong again. This time, I entered my name and email address as instructed and hit enter to register a new account. The app returned an error stating “something went wrong, please retry”. When I retried, it said the email address was already registered. I tried again with another email, same thing. I subsequently tried a third email, and again same error. I decided not to try a fourth email because by that point it seemed silly. I suspected my email addresses were being incorrectly harvested and erroneously recorded as already being registered. I begrudgingly reached out to Nextbase support that evening and received an email reply the following day. After a day of back and forth communications, we set up a phone call with a live support agent for the following day. The agent was late calling, so while waiting on the call, I tried to activate the IQ one last time. Again, all of my email addresses got the same “already registered” error. I then tried my wife’s address out of curiosity, and surprisingly, it finally worked. I was able to register, subscribe, and complete the setup. I have only used my primary email with other Nextbase cameras, so I have no idea why the others didn’t work. The rep called shortly after and I advised them that I managed to finally get it working.
Feeling home free at last, I put the IQ through the paces. It does a great job as a basic dash cam. Both roadway and cabin views are available and footage is clear on playback, even during low light capture. Footage is saved locally on the pre-installed memory card and also in the cloud with an IQ subscription. Both video and audio are recorded with great clarity. I can view live feeds locally or remotely from both cameras on demand both with the vehicle in motion and while parked. There’s approx 15 seconds of latency between actual live footage and when it’s viewable in app. When the vehicle is parked, the IQ goes into security mode when smart sense parking is activated. It monitors for movements, impacts, and other events. Lights flash showing status when something is detected and I can also trigger a manual alarm in the camera to deter suspicious actions. The included 64GB SD card capacity is a bit smallish for always on monitoring and 4K recording. It nearly filled up completely after a single day of light use and always displays capacity as close to maxed. In addition to video, there is a map in the IQ app that shows the vehicle location. At the moment, it only shows where the vehicle is and nothing else. Looking over the IQ specs, it appears the map will play a bigger role with features like geofencing alerts once some of the still in development features like Guardian mode go live.
I really would like to share that the issues subsided after the camera was finally activated and functional, but they didn’t. The camera itself works overall, but several features seemingly don’t work properly. I understand that the guardian and roadwatch A.I. modes are not yet available and both are labeled as such and inaccessible in the app, but even parking sense and other alerts don’t seemingly fully work as intended. The camera records activities and logs them in the catch-all library, but frequently logs nothing in the events tab and rarely sends me any notifications. I’ve checked every possible notification setting on both my phone and in the camera. Despite every possible option being set to allow and even when testing the sensor set at max sensitivity, it seldom sends notifications. I’ll get sporadic “impact” alerts for random door closings, and other impact alerts for no reason at all other than driving. I followed up with Nextbase support again about the lack of alerts and events and received conflicting answers. I was told via email that suspicious movements around the vehicle “would not be considered an event”, and thus would not generate event notifications. So in other words, whoever replied basically advised me that the smart sense parking feature is essentially useless for proactive security monitoring. I would much rather be warned of someone sneaking around or breaking into my car BEFORE it happens, not through a buried routine log entry after the fact.
I’m highly doubtful that the information I was provided was accurate, but then again, I don’t work in Nextbase support, so I defer to their judgement despite my doubts. Given the problems and inconsistencies I’ve been encountering, I no longer have any realistic expectations for anything this camera promises. I was also requested to send screen shots showing my phone and app notification settings despite sharing that I already checked all the settings. I sent the photos showing every permission related to alerts in both the app and phone all properly checked to allow notifications. That last email was sent to support early this morning. It is now late at night and I am still awaiting a reply from support again, but it no longer matters because barring a miraculous turnaround, I highly doubt I will continue using this IQ after the subscription trial expires. It doesn’t quite seem like all the kinks are fully baked out and it feels more like a beta release tester product than a finished and polished retail product. The features still labeled as “coming soon” in the app should have been a tip off to me that this camera wasn’t quite ready, but I gave it an honest try and did everything within the limited controls provided to make the camera work properly. Even with all phone and app settings correctly set, and traveling among several different areas with varying wireless signals, my experience with the IQ has been marginal at best. Maybe I got a bum camera. That’s my belief. But troubleshooting steps so far have failed to resolve the issues and left me even more puzzled than before regarding the camera’s features and how it is properly supposed to function. The troubleshooting has been basic so far, with every question suggesting possibly some sort of incorrect setting, expectation, or other user error. There very well may be some IQ cameras working just fine out there, but based off my experience with this specific troublesome camera that I received, I cannot recommend the IQ at the moment.

Upon unboxing the product, the first thing I noticed was how large the camera assembly was. I ended up having to mount it off-center on my windshield to avoid obscuring my field of vision while driving. The camera can be adjusted towards and away from the windshield via a pivot point on the mount, but that is the only degree of freedom available, so you have to be very purposeful with mounting alignment in order to avoid being stuck with imperfect camera alignment. The device came with many variations of cabling for compatibility with many different vehicles, which was a thoughtful addition. The included cables were plenty long and the including spudger tool helped with tucking the cables out of sight. Initial setup was fairly painless: the dash cam’s display shows a QR code that is scanned in-app which initiates pairing and a firmware update.
Overall usability was solid. The 4G LTE network had a consistent and stable connection most of the time. As expected, reception could get a bit dicey when in parking ramps or some garages, but overall the dash cam maintained connectivity well. Sometimes, video thumbnails would take a long time to load (or would not load at all), though I am not sure if these issues were 4G connection related or not.
Video quality is undoubtedly a highlight. The videos looked good whether doing in-app playback or after exporting to my phone’s storage. I was concerned that I would potentially miss out on footage since I had to mount the dash cam off-centered on the windshield, but the wide 140-degree field of view allowed the whole road to get captured even with this non-ideal mounting scenario. The option for storage expansion via microSD card is welcomed since these high res video files add up quickly. One nit-pick I have is the absence of continuous video recording. The in-app clip library gets bogged down pretty quickly with a steady flow 30-second clips as you drive. It would be nice to be able to have the option to capture each driving session as one long segment in local storage and then edit into smaller sections to capture specific events as needed.
The G-sensor’s responsiveness enhances the dash cam’s ability to capture impactful events effectively. It is a little on the sensitive side and often calls out non-events as impacts, but given the choice, I prefer that it is tuned overly sensitive rather than not.
I appreciate the inclusion of Witness Mode for added security. When activated, it shared live video with a trusted emergency contact. Smart Sense Parking is a nice AI-driven feature that provides a 360 degree field around your car that is watched for threats. This in combination with the Remote Alarm feature give added layers of protection and valuable peace of mind. I would have really liked to try out Guardian Mode and Roadwatch AI, though these features are still under development.
There are many things to like about this product. The smart features (at least the ones that are available) are very impressive. However, one VERY important thing for potential buyers to be aware of are that many of these features are locked behind paywalls. I’d highly recommend doing research on which features you find important in a smart dash cam and then seeing which tier of the Nextbase subscription you are willing to pay for. If you are unwilling to pay for the subscription, the lack of 4G LTE will neuter a lot of the aspects that make this dash cam special.
Overall, the Nextbase iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam is fundamentally a well-constructed device with substantial potential. While the hardware, though slightly bulky, integrates advanced technology, the software promises a lot yet appears to be in an evolving state. Even after the innovative capabilities of the dash cam complete development efforts and are integrated into the product, these features may be pay-to-play in perpetuity, so I again highly recommend that potential buyers do their research on subscription plan features and costs before taking the plunge on this product.

The Nextbase iQ 4k is, true to its name, capturing scenes in remarkable 4k detail. Daytime videos showcase vibrant colors and sharp contrasts, while the camera’s low-light performance is commendable, thanks to its advanced sensor technology, ensuring every detail on the road is vividly recorded.
An intelligent parking mode transforms the iQ 4k into a silent guardian for your vehicle. With motion detection and G-sensor technology, the dashcam autonomously begins recording upon detecting impact or movement, providing crucial footage in parked incidents.
Safety takes precedence with the Emergency SOS Response feature. In the event of a collision, the dashcam can automatically alert emergency services with your location and medical details, providing an additional layer of security and peace of mind.
The inclusion of GPS logging adds another layer to the iQ 4k’s capabilities, recording the precise location and speed of your vehicle, offering crucial information in the event of an incident and ensuring an added layer of accountability.
The Nextbase iQ 4k goes above and beyond with its premium subscription service. This service provides full-time 4G cell connectivity, enabling users to access a live feed of the camera remotely. This innovative feature offers real-time monitoring, adding an extra dimension to the dashcam’s capabilities. Without the subscription you are able to view footage remotely, but only via the alerts sent to your phone.
With exceptional 4k video quality, intelligent features, and the groundbreaking premium subscription service for full-time 4G connectivity, this dashcam stands out as a leader in its category.

My Nextbase IQ 4K freezes every time I give it commands. I have to disconnect it because it won’t go back to record. Also got the rear camera and it keeps disconnecting. I’m mad that I have spent so much money on both cameras plus the professional installation and this camera doesn’t work smoothly.

… the features available at the moment. But the app needs help. Cannot batch delete footage. It takes several clicks delete a file. Connection from mobile device to camera to view Incident Alert is rather lengthy. No option to take a photo unlike the 422GW, 522GW and the 622GW. For this hefty pricetag this should have been a feature as well.

I have been working with the Nextbase IQ 4K Dash Cam for several weeks now, with mixed results. I’ll start by writing about what it is supposed to be. It is a true 4K dashcam. Lots of cameras say they are 4k but have poor picture quality. During the day, this camera has excellent resolution and you get a nice wide field of view. It also records a nice view of the interior of your vehicle with audio, making it great for Uber and Lyft drivers. There is an optional camera that can be placed in your rear window, but that is sold separately, and I didn’t get it. It can be connected to your car via the ODB2 connector in your car, giving it always on capabilities. They also provide cables to attach to the fuse box, with sever size fuses.
The camera has an SD card slot with an included card. It records 4 files at a time. There are high and low resolution copies of the interior view and front view. New files are generated every 30 seconds. If you subscribe to one of their services, the files are uploaded to their cloud server via a 4G connection. That’s why the files are kept to 30 seconds. From their cell phone app you can see the videos live, or download videos that you may need. It has event detection and saves clips with special names if an event is detected during the recording. Types of events are movement detection when the car is parked, parking detection, crash detection, manual event detection, and impact detection.
Some of the other feature you get with their cloud plans are things like realtime event notification to your phone, SmartSense Parking (monitoring around your car when it is parked), Witness Mode (enables immediate recording and real time sharing to emergency contacts). It will also have Roadwatch AI (identifies hazards and dangers on the road but not yet working), and Guardian Mode (also not yet working). It has live view of the cameras on your phone, Live View Look Back (only with Protect Plus), remote warning, cloud storage, Automated Incident Backup (Protect Plus only), Emergency SOS (Protect Plus only), extended warranty (Protect Plus only) and remote downloads.
As you can see, this is a feature packed device, but most of it’s abilities are based on a monthly service. Protect costs $99/year. Protect Plus is $199 per year. With the premium price of the dashcam, both plans are substantial investments to take into account. Without one of the plans, all the device will do is record to the SD and you can pull the SD card to get access to the files.
I had a great deal of difficulty getting the camera to connect to the cloud and my phone to be able to access it. I dealt with Nextbase Support for several days before they found a problem on their end. After that, connections were hit or miss. They are pretty stable now. The other issue I have is the camera exposure. At night, the camera is over exposed. License plates that your lights shine on appear solid white. Same with street signs. While the app has controls for exposure for the forward and cabin cameras, they have no effect whatsoever on the live view, or the recorded file. I’m really not sure why it is there. When I asked support about it, they asked for a video to show them, and I’m currently working through that. In all, I have been dealing with support for well over a week. The issue I think is that their support is based in the United Kingdom so I typically get my replies at about 3 AM the day after I send something to them. It makes for a very slow process.
When it comes down to it, I can’t recommend this dash cam. It’s very expensive and while it has great features, some of them aren’t currently active and you have to pay for them every year. Support is not timely, and it was extremely painful to get it working. I put in over 20 hours troubleshooting all of the issues I had, and I’m still not done. If I had bought this dash cam, I would have returned it after the 1st day of trying to get it to work. If you can afford the dash cam and the annual fees, I have to assume that they will get the bugs out of the system and get all of the features working. Then it will be a great dash cam, but right now it isn’t.

The IQ 4K Smart Dash Cam from Nextbase is an impressive piece of equipment. From the packaging to the device itself, Nextbase has really done a good job.
The IQ includes multiple options for powering the device through either your vehicle’s ODB connector, or directly into your fuse box. It even has a “power down” feature so it doesn’t drain your battery. I chose the ODB option and by using the included “tuck tool” was able to easily hide the excess cord in the vehicle trim.
After downloading the app, the instructions ask that you leave the vehicle running during the process. Obviously, this means you shouldn’t try this in the garage! Unfortunately, it took me about 20 minutes and a call to tech support because my Iphone would not read the tiny QR code on the very small IQ screen. It took the interior lights, and the flashlight before my phone would read the QR and pair the device. (maybe they can include a card with the code instead). After pairing, I suggest holding the IQ in place while you view what will be recorded as once you “stick” it to your windshield there’s very little adjustment.
Nextbase suggests installation high up, near the rearview mirror but my vehicle (22 Mazda CX5) has the black dot material in this area. Since the IQ “sticks” to the windshield, I mounted mine a little lower. Although it is visible while driving it’s not at all distractive.
Since this is the 4k model, the recording quality of the videos is crisp, clear and reproduces color very well. It appears that the only video accessible from the phone app are what Nextbase refers to as “incidents” such as parking the car, entering/exiting the vehicle, or when the IQ detects movement around the vehicle. Video of actual driving events are available by removing the MicroSD card and viewing on a computer. (make sure you have an SD card reader).
Sound is recorded clearly via the IQ microphone and although the interior video is black/white, it is still very clear. Voices are easily understood during playback.
With GPS capabilities, not only does the IQ know where your car is, you can also monitor speed and the location if someone else is driving. It includes crash detection and SOS as additional features.
The IQ is a high-quality dashcam, made by a company that specializes in dashcams, not by someone who “also makes” dashcams. The unit feels very well made, is packaged well, and includes everything you need for a neat, clean installation.
Although most people will probably not need to call tech support, it’s good to know that their people are helpful and patient. This may be a little more expensive than similar products but so far really seems to be worth it!

Okay so this is the dash cam to beat all dash cams !
So to get the less desirable things out of the way first: there is a subscription required to their app in order to take advantage of all of the features of this dash cam but it is more than worth it. Also the size is a little cumbersome but we found if mounted behind and just to the right of the rear view mirror it is barely noticeable. And it is a little pricey in the wallet department but again – more than worth it in the long run. Although promised that professional quality installation can be accomplished by anyone, we decided to spend just a few dollars to have it professionally install by our local mechanic shop so that the continuous power is correct and not inadvertently draining and all the wires are completely hidden and none the trim work broken when doing that. As for the good traits; it has them all but for the sake of brevity the best ones are that the picture quality is the best we’ve seen yet, but day and night, rain and shine. Plan on spending about 45 minutes setting up the app. Once completed you’re good to go. We can check on our car no matter where we are in the world possibly thousands of miles away. The voice commands make this dashcam a breeze to operate. And the motion detector and alerts and incident marking are an absolute necessity that we didn’t realize we needed until we had it, so if someone slightly bumps into your car in a packing lot while backing up the motion sensor alerts you remotely and marks the incident so along with the excellent picture quality you can zoom in on the other car’s license plate if they ‘hit & run’ and drive off. All in all we would recommend this dash cam to our friend and family. And we will be getting another one for our other car shortly.

CONCLUSION:
This is a neat device. It performs well. And has a lot of unique features. Making me want to give it a 5. However, this is a rocky road as not everything is working perfectly, at all, or is coming down the line. It is extremely expensive between the camera itself, the rear camera if you add it, and monthly subscription. Which makes me want to give it 3.5 – 4 stars in the current state. I think this will be one of those devices that is either a great beta run and the next version will be awesome. Or it will age well with firmware updates and be awesome a year or so from now once they are out of the growing phase. But you should never buy a product on what they claim it will be. But instead what it is currently. If these features sound like what you are looking for I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. But if you’re just looking for great picture quality and something that is hands off (which it excels at for a dashcam). I’d keep looking as the tax your paying by not using the other features is steep.
SETUP:
I had a lot of problems with setup. Originally went to set it up my car battery was dead (which I was completely unaware of at the time). Which may or may not have caused issues with the firmware of the device making it get stuck on the “onboarding” screen of two yellow arrows going in a circle. After about a week or two of going back and forth with support they pushed an update OTA which allowed me to get past that screen and setup my camera. Once that happened setup was quick and easy. Support was great with quick response times (usually <24 hours), helpful suggestions, very professional, and friendly. Inside the app it says to call a number which didn’t go through because it is missing the 1 in the US. But once I added the 1 to the number provided it worked. As they are based in the UK. If you don’t run into issues setup is easy. You plug the device into your OBD port (there are options for alternatives as well but this is the easiest), open the IQ App which walks you though the rest of the process. Scanning the QR code can be a bit difficult between the gloss and brightness. Weirdly turning on the camera flash (double tapping the screen when in the QR screen) will turn on your flashlight which helps. Once you get through that process you mount it and hide the wires. Then it is pretty much hands off from there as it will automatically power on/off, activate, and send alerts (if you have the paid membership). without any oversight from you.
FEATURES:
There are three different tiers of membership. One is currently free, the other $9.99, and the third is $19.99. These seem expensive. But technically are enabling data and 4G connectivity along with unlocking some features (which would require data/4G connection to work) which makes the pricing make a bit more sense. I’m talking about the most expensive tier. From where I lived I always had 3 - 4 out of 4 bars no matter where I was in the city.
Remote function is nice. I had an expensive item in my car and went into another store to grab something. And because I’m paranoid it was nice to keep the live feed up while I was doing my thing. Also, sometimes I’ll hear something outside and I can just remote into my car and see what is happening on my street. Which is nice.
Witness mode is an excellent feature that you can activate manually to record any craziness that may occur. It sends a copy of the video along with an alert to a contact of your choice. Then there is SOS which activates in case of a crash and you are unable to respond will contact emergency services. Both require setup and are locked behind the most expensive tier.
Two features are not yet available. There is cloud storage (to review on your phone, if the device gets damaged, or stolen), image-based notifications, and monitoring in case there is someone who knicks your car, breaks into your car, or gets too close. You can manually set off an alarm which could scare people away. Overall, it has a lot of features. But I think a lot of those features won’t be used regularly for most people and a more inexpensive camera without a monthly fee will suit them just fine. Granted you can use this as a basic dashcam without the membership or special features. It would just be very expensive.
USAGE:
The camera itself is rather large, hefty, and very well built. It is attractive and will look good in any car. Display is limited and only shows you when it is powered on/off, recording, or alerts (parking/movement). I wish they would add what all those pictures looked like inside the app along with what the voice commands were. Movement is limited with just up/down. No side to side or tilt. With it being so large it limits the ROM of my rearview mirror. As it hangs down obstructing vision so I tried to put it as high as I could to limit that.
For the most part it correctly powers up and down. Some examples. When I get in my car it will alert me before I can start my car that there was a movement alert on my phone and on the device itself shows a movement alert. When I start my car it automatically starts a recording and the screen indicates that. After I stop my car after about 15 seconds will go into parking mode, then turn off. If I press the button on the bottom it will lock that recording to not be deleted with the loop recording. But I also found when I went into the SD card that at night it is waking itself up a lot despite nothing happening.
If I want to bring up live view on my phone it takes about 30 – 45 seconds. As it has to wake up the device and then establish a connection. Once established you have a bit of a delay from real time. Maybe 5 – 15 seconds. Bringing up a recording takes about 7 seconds, is clear and good quality, but probably not enough to gather specific information (such as a license plate). However, the actual recordings from the SD card are the best I’ve seen from a dashcam but still leave a good amount of room for improvement.
The app itself is easy to navigate and intuitive. I like that the home screen shows your GPS location on a map (which isn’t always accurate), your front exterior view, interior view, and if applicable rear view on one screen. You can go full screen on whichever one you want with a live view. But image quality falls apart quickly. You can see past recordings and events which takes about 7 seconds to bring up.
CAMERA QUALITY:
Lighting, like all cameras, is going to play a big part on how clear the image is. Where if it is good and you’re not getting blinded by the sun or driving at night with other driver’s lights blinding you the picture quality is excellent. The front view does show some pixelation in tough scenes but isn’t overly sharpened. I can read license plates from about a car length away in bad lighting. And maybe two to three car lengths if ideal. I’m able to read street signs given good lighting from further away as the writing is larger. The view shows everything I need such as my hood, the lines on the road, and does a good job showing accurate distance between me and the car in front of me. Night vision is full color for the front camera and black/white for the interior camera. The interior camera is 2560x1440p resolution over 3840x2160. Bitrate is acceptable. It technically creates four recordings each time. 1 high quality front camera/interior and 1 low quality front/interior. I’d imagine with the back cam it would add another two. I’m not sure if you can change this in the settings anywhere. Regarding the price I would like it to be a bit better. But understanding as lighting plays such a huge role in how well a camera performs (as does bitrate) and controlling lighting while driving is extremely difficult and bitrate is limited on 64 GB card at these resolutions.
Pulling the SD card is simple as it is on the left side and easy to access. It uses loop recording which will overwrite older content. It comes with a 64 GB SD card which fills up quickly with the 4K/2K recordings. For example, I spend about an hour in my car every day. It holds about two days’ worth of footage. As I found that it was picking up a lot of false alarms while parked in my neighborhood. Especially at night, but not so much at work, in an actual parking lot, and during the day. Strange. Basically, I’m saying if you have an incident or something you want to keep make sure to get it off that same day or press the lock button to make sure it doesn’t override that data.

Being an automotive enthusiast and a tech loving individual, I love all of the new security technology that is being put out for the auto industry. I’ve gone through my fair share of dashcams, with all sorts of features, but the Nextbase – iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam just takes it to an entire new level.
The evolution of dashcam technology has really come a long way. I really love the fact that Nextbase is integrating AI technology into their dashcams. The Nextbase – iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam really gives me peace of mind knowing that my truck is protected, even when I’m away.
With two camera (front and in-babin/rear), you are covered both ways. I love the fact that it automaticly senses danger and sends you a notification right away. I am able to keep an eye on my truck when it is parked out in the street. The Nextbase – iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam really puts in work to keep your vehicle safe.
With 4k video quality, you see everything so clearly. I can access videos directly from my phone without having to remove a memory card. This is extremely helpful and necessary during an emergency. Speaking of emergency, the Nextbase – iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam can automatically notify the proper parties whenever it senses an accident/emergency. Not only does it keep your vehicle safe, but it keeps YOU safe as well. Of course, a subscription is required for the service, but you already spend unecessary money on a cup of cofee every morning.
You get everything you need to mount and power the Nextbase – iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam. You have the option to use a cigarette lighter power source, or a hardwire source. I like to hardwire my dashcams on all of my vehicles, as this makes for a cleaner install, and frees up your lighter source power. The hardwire installation requires you to find the proper fuse amp power source, a ground, and crimp, and you are good to go.
The Nextbase – iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam is a bit pricey, but in my opinion, it is worth the money. Keep you vehicle and yourself safe at all times. Get yourself the Nextbase – iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam.
BillnMish –
My gripe – the subscriptions. I’m jumping right into this to get it out of the way. This is like micro-transactions in games to me at this point. Paying for a premium product and then getting lassoed into recurring monthly fees is the adult version of micro-gaming transactions. I’ll leave it at that, but .5 of the 1 star being removed is due to this. Not a total deal breaker for me, but as consumers we’ve been allowing a slippery-slope to take place and it is only going to get more and more out of hand.
The other .5 of a star is the bulkiness of the iQ. It is rather view-obstructing to say the least. I mounted it in each of our vehicles and in our smallest car (a Fiat 500 Abarth) you had a hard time looking across to the front passenger fender and being able to see clearly for oncoming anything. I tried mounting it a little lower on the windshield, but then you have an obstructed view at the hoodline that is more than I’m personally comfortable with. Again, not a TOTAL deal-breaker, but I wanted to mention it right up front that all the tech these things pack has to go somewhere, so they are a bit on the larger side.
The performance of the camera itself is top-notch. Video quality is amazing day or night, rain or shine. The app is great, and all the information is exactly where you expect it to be. Accessing your videos (subscription!) is quick/painless (grrrrrrr) so at least know that your monthly payments are being put to good use in that regard.
Mount the thing, get it hooked up, sign up for the free 3-month trial and when that expires pay or don’t. The payments ensure you have Emergency Service contact whenever there’s an accident/issue sensed, that your videos can be accessed at a moments notice, and the constant 4G LTE connection. I just wish you could have a version of this top-shelf model in a subscription-free version where you could have the same video quality while only needing to use an SD or something along those lines to store your videos locally. Nextbase has lower-tier models more akin to this, but obviously they want you to pony-up for this other bells/whistles, so I get it.
All-in-all, a good dashcam, just huge and that stinkin’ monthly fee.

— SETUP —
The setup for the Nextbase i! Dash Cam is facilitated by a video. The video explains that there are multiple options on how to connect the camera, the most common to this camera is an OBD outlet in your vehicle. This port can be found under the steering wheel for most vehicles. It is not the cigarette lighter. Following that, you connect the cable to the dash cam to give it power, remove the sticky tape cover, and stick the camera to the center or passenger side of your windshield. Download the app and it will guide you on how to connect it with your phone.
— FEATURES —
4K recording, two cameras – one cabin facing, 140 degrees FOV, live view while away from vehicle, witness mode when in stressful situations, automatic incident detection while driving and while parked, automatic phone alerts while you’re away from your vehicle, voice activated, optional subscription unlocks more features.
— PERFORMANCE AND EXPECTATIONS —
This dashcam is truly a next generation experience. Think of it as a security camera installed in your vehicle. It does what you expect a dash cam to do, which is to record your commute while you drive, but it does it better and then some.
For starters, this dash cam connects to your OBD port. This is a multi-pin port located below your steering wheel on most vehicles. At first, I thought that this process would be complicated, but it really wasn’t. After watching the introductory video, I found my OBD port in seconds and installed it in less than a minute. It immediately powered the iQ dashcam. The dashcam showed me a QR code that I scanned with the app and that process automatically paired the app with the cam in a very seamless fashion. While driving, I am able to see what my camera is recording in both the cabin and the outside through the app. At any point, I can go back and rewatch the videos and save them to my phone without ever removing the installed SD card. While my vehicle is parked. I can open the iQ app and watch what is happening near my vehicle. One of my friends leaned on my vehicle while we were talking outside the parking lot and I got a notification of a parking incident. Tapping on the notification allowed me to see what was happening near the vehicle. This gives me peace of mind that I am able to check my vehicle’s surroundings before I even reach it or while far away from it.
One very unique feature is witness mode. The explanation of witness mode is that it’ll start recording upon activation in stressful situations. As an example, the diagram in the app shows a person being stopped by the police. Using the voice command, “Hey dashcam, start Witness Mode,” the camera begins to record video and audio as well as send a link to 2 contacts of your choice so that they can see the live feed of what is happening that is causing you stress. These contacts can be chosen from within the app. The first time you set up a contact, they will receive a notification and an explanation of what you set them up with so they understand the safety feature.
Roadwatch AI is a feature that adds context to your footage. If you need to prove how fast other vehicles are going, roadwatch AI will give approximations of other vehicles speeds, and distances in relation to you. It also auto-identifies pedestrians, cyclists, and more to track those item’s movements.
— APPROVAL —
Overall, having the extra piece of mind that my vehicle’s surrounding area is available to me remotely is worth the recommendation to anyone.

The Nextbase iQ is camera with outstanding image quality both daylight and nighttime. It is a bit tricky to set up due to the app enlarges the image when reading the QR code. It is best to set up before attaching it to the windshield. It comes with all accessories to connect it directly to the car battery. Unfortunately, it has several drawbacks which are not practical for my area. It does not come with a USB connection to connect it in the cabin which now most cars come with USB ports. In addition, it does not have a viewing screen so videos can only be seen on the app or by removing the SD card and using the pc or laptop. The app is easy to use but can’t see video’s without paying a subscription fee which was a surprise to find out. Everything is going to subscription base so this is not the exception but it records with or without subscription. Once attached to the windshield there is not way to rotate the camera only tilt. It has a larger footprint than expected so will be getting a smaller camera.

Mehh! Is my reaction to this product overall. From the setup to the features to the usage, eveything was iffy and left me wondering if I am really going to keep this.. My older model had all sorts of flex I could rotate it, move it left to right, so I could get a better view. Once you’ve fixed it you come to your next challenge – the wire – you get options to plug it into the OBD2 port or directly into your fuse box (they give you 4 fuse sizes so you are covered), but no option to plug it into a USB or a cigarette lighter port. So, if you do plug it into OBD2, it can use the car battery even when the car is switched off, so keep that in mind. I used OBD2 but I don’t like the lack of options.
Let me just preface this by saying I already have a Nextbase dashcam – its been serving me really really well for the past 2-3 years now. So, I am obviously going to compare this to the older model.
So, lets start with the installation – instead of a suction cup that can be easily moved around if you do not like the position you set up initially, you have to stick this on. It comes with a 3M sticker pad attached. So, sure its more secure, but the installation is a lot less forgiving, you need to be sure where you put this thing on first time. What’s worse is that once installed, it has no flex left to right or rotationally, only up and down.
There is no viewing screen on the devide itself, so you can’t see a live view anytime you want. You would have to do that through the app, and it takes about half a minute to connect and start the live view (behind a paid sub).
A lot of the features are also behind a subscription – 4g connectivity, real time alerts, live view. Check these out before you make your decision – https://nextbase.com/smart-dash-cams/iq-smart-dash-cam/. Some features are also not ready yet, so I am not even going to talk about them here.
The quality itself is good, its a solid build and the image looks good in the day time and ok in the night time. I really don’t know if pixels matter, because in bad light conditions the image is still pixelated. Its better than the older model for sure, so that’s something. It comes with a 64gb SD card which can barely hold 2-3 days of data at the full resolution that its designed for.
I like the idea of the “Witness Mode” – which essentially sends the recording (video and audio) automatically to your choice of contact – so if you are in a spot of bother with an aggressive driver or worse, this can help you out.
Overall, I still think I might just go back to my older model. Sure, it wasn’t as fancy but it had an ease of use with the built in screen that I just can’t seem to shake off.

Easy install great security features. But i noticed today i cant read license plate numbers and it’s blurry

I went from a Garmin Live to the 4K IQ, hands down, the best purchase. Not only the quality of the video is crisp and clean all the features are amazing. Between Witness Mode, etc you are getting what you pay for. Also, i love the perimeter protection. It was with the OBD port and various size fuse taps which allows you to decide how you want to install the camera.

I can’t say enough great things about Best Buy in Owensboro! I get quality service every time I visit. I bought the dash cam and Rylan was very patient and careful installing it in our truck. He explained how to use it in great detail and even setup our phone to view the recording. Great staff!!

the good:
– Outstanding Video Quality: The iQ 4K’s standout feature is undeniably its impressive video quality. With a 4K resolution, the dash cam captures crystal-clear footage that excels in both daytime and nighttime conditions. The 140-degree wide-angle lens ensures that the entire scene is captured, reducing blind spots and providing comprehensive coverage.
– Intelligent Parking Mode: The Intelligent Parking Mode is a game-changer for users concerned about the safety of their parked vehicles. The dash cam automatically activates recording when it detects motion or impact, providing an added layer of security. Customizable sensitivity settings allow users to tailor the feature to their specific needs, striking a balance between capturing important events and conserving storage space.
– Seamless Connectivity and App Integration: The MyNextbase Connect app enhances the overall user experience by providing easy access to live footage, settings adjustment, and instant downloading or sharing of recordings. The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity are reliable, ensuring a smooth and responsive connection. The app’s user-friendly interface makes it accessible to both tech-savvy users and those less familiar with dash cam technology.
– Compact Design and Build Quality: The iQ 4K’s compact design seamlessly integrates into the car’s interior. The magnetic mount system adds convenience, allowing for effortless attachment and detachment. The dash cam’s build quality is robust, instilling confidence in its ability to withstand various driving conditions. The 2.5-inch HD IPS screen provides clear playback and easy access to menu settings directly on the device.
– GPS and Speed Tracking : The built-in GPS accurately records the vehicle’s location and speed, providing crucial information in the event of an incident. This feature is valuable for monitoring driving habits and staying aware of speed limits. The accuracy and reliability of the GPS functionality contribute to the overall safety and utility of the dash cam.
the bad:
– Premium Price: While the Nextbase iQ 4K offers a range of advanced features, its premium price tag may be a barrier for some potential buyers. The cost may be justified for users prioritizing top-tier video quality and intelligent features, but budget-conscious consumers may find more affordable options with adequate performance.
– Emergency SOS Effectiveness: The Emergency SOS feature, while a commendable addition, may have varying effectiveness depending on regional emergency service compatibility. The feature automatically alerts emergency services with your location in the event of a severe collision, providing an extra layer of safety. However, its utility may be limited in certain areas, affecting its overall impact.
– Voice Control Limitations: The inclusion of voice control is a welcome addition for hands-free operation. However, the functionality may have limitations in terms of commands and responsiveness. Users looking for extensive voice control capabilities might find the feature somewhat constrained.
overall:
The Nextbase iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam stands as a formidable choice for drivers seeking top-tier video quality, intelligent features, and user-friendly functionality. Its exceptional strengths, including outstanding video clarity, intelligent parking mode, seamless connectivity, compact design, and GPS tracking, position it as a leader in the dash cam market.
However, prospective buyers should carefully consider the premium price tag, especially if their budget is a primary concern. The Emergency SOS feature, while valuable, may not be universally effective, and users should be aware of its limitations. Additionally, the voice control functionality, while a positive addition, may not meet the expectations of users looking for more extensive voice command options.
In summary, the Nextbase iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam excels in delivering an enhanced driving experience, and its positives far outweigh its drawbacks. It’s a solid investment for those who prioritize video quality and advanced features, but potential buyers should weigh the pros and cons based on their individual preferences and budget constraints.

This camera does not work properly and shouldnt be in stores especially at this price. The good easy to install. Unfortunately most modes advetised dont work. I have been in communication with the company amd was assured today a firmware update would correct most issues. Well it hasnt fixed one issue. Whittness mode shows it records but doesnt save the video. It does send a link but when you click on it you get an error code 404. Connecting to the camera works sometimes. It has about a thirty second delay from live footage. The SD card will not format when you propt it in the app. The only feature that works is parking mode. Motion doesnt work or any other feature. This was sloppy work not with the hardware but software. I feel like false advertising and surprised Best Buy would sell a product which doesnt do most things claimed by the company. We have a new vehicle, latest version firmware, iphone 14 with latest updates so nothing on our side to prevent the product from working properly. The company knows it has hige issues but continues to mislead consumers. Unless this is resolved soon ill be returning the product.

Had this cam professionally installed the video is super clear and app is easy to use would recommend this to anyone looking for a high-quality dash cam. But hold off on the rear cam until the fix the problems of not recording.
NitrousNick –
I had high expectations for the 4K version with the rear cameras set up. Unfortunately at this point I’ve had major issues and have been working with the support team but lately it’s been taking nearly a week to get a response from them.
This camera has been nothing but glitchy and not working properly from day one! over $900 invested and it doesn’t work properly. That’s unacceptable!
I have been very patient up to this point but my patience is running out.
Some of the issues still will not connect to rear camera all the time, missing thumbnails, GPS not working and if it does work it’s usually reporting false data I have seen speeds reported as high as 500 miles an hour, push notifications not working, nearly a minute delay when connecting live and many of the advertised features not available at this time.
I have even asked Best Buy to replace the camera and they are unwilling to replace just the camera they want me to uninstall everything front and rear camera wiring etc. if I’m going to all the trouble to uninstall the camera, I will simply return it.
Next base only has a week or two left to sort out some of these issues before I have to return the camera for a full refund.
As for the people stating some of the features that aren’t even available are some of their favorite features, I would really be careful listening to those types of reviews, clearly they don’t either understand the camera or are making up faults positive reviews.

There is hardly any support because the company is based in the UK. Rear cam never worked. Quality of image is poor and LTE is glitchy. Stay away frim Nextbase and save yourself time and money.

SoS can not even be setup. It requires first name, last name, and gender. Gender is the only option that can be changed. So can’t get passed this screen since first/last name can not be entered.
Their Response: Should be a fix shortly
The device keeps getting stuck in parking mode. It’s a walking person with a flashing red ring. Seems to happen when I stop. Has started when stopped at a light and when stopped to let a passenger out. Once it starts it keeps flashing for a good 10-15 minutes then seems to crash and restart. Doesn’t matter if I start driving again or shut off the vehicle. It will not record during this time.
The active view is REALLY far behind!!!
Sometimes 30 seconds to 5 minutes. I’m directly connected and frankly that’s unacceptable…
The gps has no idea what speed I’m going. One time I was at a light and it said I was going 8mph when stopped. Another I was doing 80 when my speedometer was reading 35… so the in app speedometer is useless.
The cameras in this view and live view are no were close to “live”. As stated above 30 seconds to 5 minutes. Especially while directly connected… I should be able to use this thing as a backup camera if need be… but due to the extreme lag that’s impossible.
Their Response: Live view is all dependent on the bandwidth, so if you live in a built up area or have bad signal, then live view will have a delay. Live view should never be used as a reversing camera as there is always going to be a delay in transferring live video data from one device to another.
The rear camera keeps going offline… what is the point of having the another $100 add-on if your main device only uses it sometimes? There should be some kind of check constantly going to see if the rear camera is plugged in then. If so then start using it and if not then run they cycle again after so many seconds.
Then the last straw…
I had someone cut into my lane while entering an offramp and I got pushed off the road because they came within inches of hitting me… I try to look up the video and keep getting errors in the app. So I pulled the SD card when I got home. You have to buy a codec for microsoft to view the videos. Then I am searching through and there is a whole 13 minutes of the 15 minute drive it didn’t even record. It got me pulling out of the driveway and then the next recording was 13 minutes later stopping at a light. So it didn’t even record when i jerked the car out of the way of someone about to hit me and has no recording at all for that time period… What even is the point of having this dash cam if it cant even do the most basic function it is designed for… Record while the vehicle is on….
Images included for all the above incidents.
In summary: It in no way is a complete product or even worth its cost… Buy ANYTHING else and you will have more features…
Only feature that works correctly so far is the parking. It sends me a notification when someone is close enough to touch the car door or enters the vehicle while the engine is off. While I love the feature… Its not worth $900 to be the only functional one…

I recently purchased the Nextbase iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam for a substantial $699.00 plus tax, and my experience has been consistently challenging. This review outlines the product’s underwhelming performance and the disappointing customer technical support.
To begin with, the setup process using an Android device proved to be extremely troublesome. The dashcam encountered difficulties updating during setup, causing unnecessary complications. Interestingly, when I switched to an iPhone, the update process was smooth. However, any relief was short-lived, as the live view feature exhibited lag and eventually ceased to connect after just a couple of days.
The promoted Witness mode, which pledges alerts via email and SMS with a connecting link, turned out to be misleading. Clicking the link resulted in a frustrating 404 error page, rendering the feature useless. Event recording was inconsistent, and attempting to view a live feed led to an endless loading circle, abandoning the effort after a tedious 10 minutes. In essence, this dashcam has failed to meet expectations in every regard.
Now, let’s discuss customer service. Despite the dashcam being marketed with a 90-day trial subscription, my credit card was charged a monthly subscription fee of $19.99, accompanied by an additional $0.59 processing fee. When I reached out to customer support, I faced skepticism and had to provide a screenshot of their own advertisement to prove the trial offer. Adding to the frustration, despite reporting connection issues on 12/27, a resolution is still pending as of today, 1/9/2024. The response received? “It’s been forwarded to our development team for further investigation.” No refund has been issued for the unauthorized charges.
Given the steep price, I anticipated a top-tier product. Unfortunately, the Nextbase iQ 4K Smart Dash Cam has consistently fallen short of these expectations. I’ll be returning it to BestBuy, and I strongly caution potential buyers to avoid NextBase products altogether. Save yourself the hassle and your hard-earned money.
