    Do not even consider getting close to 28 miles with these. We live in a rural area and my wife drove 2 miles down the road and that was about the extend of where anything would come through. I cannot even imagine in a city setting how close you would have to be. Very dissapointed

    Bought this as a Christmas gift so I can’t review the actual product but buying this from Best Buy and the pickup was as easy as can be. It’s Best Buy that gets the 5 star treatment.

    Birthday present for a parent of 4 year old… cuz you know how younger kids get kinda’ jealous of seeing someone else open a gift (wait, don’t we all get a bit jealous?)

    I used to use them with my kid… taking one when I walked the dog… we tended to play ‘drive-thru’…
    example: “schrssshhh mmmmm nake your erder plee scrhchshsh” (and never get the order right)

    I bought 3 sets of these for a trip to the Olympic National Park with my friends. One day we went on a hike up one of the mountains, and having these worked perfectly since we didn’t have cell service. And doubly so as a couple folks in our group didn’t feel well so we were able to stay in contact the entire time.

    I would recommend having regular AAA batteries along with the rechargeable, they seem to last longer than the rechargeable ones from our experience.

    Just got my radios in. Plugged the charger in and one of the radios batteries started melting inside the radio and when I took it off the charger because I could smell the plastic burning it was so hot it burned my hand. DEFINITELY RETURNING THEM

    These are high quality walkies. My boy has wanted some “good ones” for a while and we’ve gone through 2 sets of the “toy ones.” Got these this year and they work great! I love the clarity and the ability to recharge instead of replacing batteries constantly.

    I could not use it overseas. i return purchase. But the price was right. the charger would not work overseas with out a converter. should be USB plug.

    Good walkie-talkies for the price, they worked fine when I went hiking. It may not work when in the city in a 28-mile range but works fine when hiking or when there are not many disturbances.

    Note: These have NOT gotten any field experience yet. That said, I’m very satisfied with their capabilities. One feature I love a lot is the rechargeable battery pack that can be removed and regular batteries put in it’s place, for when you might have spare batteries, but not the charger on hand.
    Only significant drawbacks noticed to this point: There is no backlight on the display. Seems to me like that would have been a simple, cheap add. Also, the “call” button is quite loud with no option for adjusting it’s volume–which is probably by design, but it’s an easy button to accidentally hit.
    Otherwise, the color, weight, function, etc., are all great.

    Faulty battery out of the box. Best Buy wouldn’t accept return 7 days past holiday return window. Will be diverting 1000s elsewhere.

    Radios work ok. Range in neighborhood is more like 0.25 mile.
