Midland makes decent weather radio. Has for years. Our last one was bought around 2008-2010 time frame and finally quit working over the winter 2019-2020. I can’t complain.
We were actually wanting to buy another of the white model for $40, but Best Buy was out of stock. Not wanting to go too far into a Mid-western Spring without a storm radio, we opted to buy this $70 model instead. Works just like our last one, but for $30 more. I think the extra $30 must be for the AM/FM, which are old one did not have. Unfortunately, I don’t believe will ever use it.
Anyway, I’m satisfied. I just wished Best Buy hadn’t been out of stock of the white ones. Maybe this $70 one will last twice as long and then I’ll be money ahead.

Allows you to select your state and county for the location alerts. Also allows you to select which alerts you want on or off(don’t need hurricane alerts on in Tennessee). AN/FM radio is a nice touch as well.

Amazing! The alert went off in the middle of the night and everyone heard it. Another time during daylight when everyone was in the living room, it alerted and we were able to hear the alert sound. Easy set up.

With battery backup this will keep you aware of severe weather in your area at all times. It was easy to set up and works well. It has sounded off a couple of times while I was asleep and it will wake you up to alert you even if you are asleep.
JefferyLebowski –
This is a great weather radio, works perfectly, and best buy had it at a good price, shipped fast too
Bogey –
Easy to pinpoint area alerts are will be reported for and adjustments to alert types from visual to audio
Brie –
I have been unable to properly program it, nobody in the store was able to help me
Arnold –
The Midland is easy to program with a large selection of weather alerts that can be customized. I could easily find a frequency with a NOAA broadcast that came in clearly. It was easy to set up. The FM radio reception is fine and it has dual alarm wake up. It also has a battery back up (requiring 4 AA batteries, not included). It has worked well, sending out alerts during some bad storms this summer. Definitely worth the investment especially with the tornadoes we’ve had this year.
Danimal –
Set to get alerts from the regional counties of your choice! Choose what type of alerts you want. Monthly area test can also be on alert. I’m glad this is in my home!
Vagabond –
The unit does not have an on/off switch. Disappointed that it does not hold the settings if it is unplugged or if you are changing the batteried.
Radio –
I am satisfied with my radio and find it easy to set the alarm clock.
I am able to reach stations that were hard to reach on my old radio because of the antenna.
Tom899 –
This Midland WR400 weather radio is really nice! The reception is outstanding! Including AM and FM reception. It’s very well laid out, great size, and the speaker has a nice quality. The backlit LED screen is nice and brightness is adjustable. Best Buy delivered it very fast.
WeatherEmergencyRadio –
My experience was excellent in that it was courteous, competent in processing the selection and transaction.
JerryM –
This is an excellent weather radio that can also receive AM and FM stations. We owned the older wr120, which is sometimes a bear to program since the menus aren’t intuitive and the manual is confusing. This is a much more modern design, it is relatively easy to use.
I gave it a 4 based on the fact that it still has a confusing manual but it is much better than the older models. As someone who has owned several Midland products, confusing menus seems to be a feature of that company’s radios.
JWil –
Very easy to set up and get running. Features you won’t find on many NOAA radios and over 80 possible alerts. The best home weather radio.
Midlandweatherradio –
We had one for 20 years and it just stopped working and we had to replace it with an upgraded version. We love it.
mrpeanut –
works really well. have been finding new things that it does all of the time. I took one star off for ease of use because I think you will always need to keep the manual with it to figure out were to find everything.
Zoom –
Very effective weather radio! Unlike most other models on the market, this radio can be programmed for only the watches or warnings that are important to you.
We live in a tornado belt so that is our prioity..flash floods, thunderstorms etc. Only create needless wake up alarms.
nopper –
alert radio great four money good sound set up was easy look good
Herb –
Radio easy to setup, does as advertised. and well build for the price.
Dmc53 –
Easy to use and pretty accurate. Great features for the money compared to the competition.
corfos –
This Midland weather radio isn’t cheap, but it is packed with features that I’m confident will keep my family safe under the threat of TN tornadoes and flash flooding. Super easy to set up and has the best national weather radio reception of any model I’ve tried.
TexasRanch –
Reliable product. Alerts to all weather emergencies
phil –
This is a well made piece of equipment that works perfectly.
Nadira –
Really like the features of this radio. Offers FM/AM, alarm clock, and NOAA stations.
jdmoore –
It’s a weather radio. Supports SAME, which allows only certain areas and alert types to trigger an alarm. This is a nice plus as it avoids needless wake ups from flash floods and similar that do not impact us.
CJaudiophile –
I like the NOAA alert system, we’ve had heavy rain events as well a tsunami alert. When there is any emergency weather alert, I can here the alert alarm from the other side of my house.
Gigi –
Christmas gift. Still working on the best channel to listen to.
Chrislyn –
Timely warning. Loud enough to alert us. Easy set up.
OutstandingSoundBar –
Midland has manufactured a great weather station that gives warnings of weather disturbances. It is difficult to set up the county, state, etc. to get relevant information for your area, but once connected, the reports are timely, and very accurate.
I highly recommend
Debus –
I recently bought this weather radio but so far haven’t had any weather requiring it’s activation, fortunately. The set up was easy but while the warnings covered most weather hazards I never could find tornado warning; I will see how well it responds when the bad spring weather moves in.
A004028 –
Quality product. Excellent reception. Dependable. It’s there when you need it the most. Battery backup ensures 100% coverage even when the power goes out. I trust this product to save lives.

difficult to work with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is actually my second Midland weather radio. I was glad to be updated on the recent subzero temperatures here in MI. My other weather radio is in FL where I used it for the latest updates on Hurricanes Ian and Nicole. Great reception and easy to use compared to my previous brand of weather radio.
BigCat –
Its a great weather radio. Easy to program and understand. Alarm clock radio too.
Patty –
Great weather radio, easy to set up. You can’t go wrong with midland
PinkTeardrops –
About Dec. 2022 the audio started to be mixed to mono in a way that canceled out some voices, Found out that when the Sam Smith & Kim Petras single Unholy came out & Kim’s voice was canceled out like a DIY instrumental.
user564743 –
This version of the weather radio was excellent. The instructions were clear enough for this person to have no problem in the set-up, as opposed to the “older/more basic” version.
Oldbutfrisky –
I had the simpler Midland alert unit for about 11 years. This
one has potential for 2 alarms as well as fm and am radio
station reception. I now awaken to classical music instead
of a squaking beeper. Setting for two relevant county alerts
seemed more straightforward. Costs more but worth it for me.
MasterJAM –
We wanted a SAME weather radio that was loud for emergenciesbut also allowed us to select which counties woild give us alerts so we were not kept up all nihht after storms had passed. This was a good choice and smart the little white midland have to have user interaction to play the alert and to stop the radio. This one starts the message automatically, plays through the alerts and then stops on its own. So we dont have to get up everytime it goes off.
MarilynG –
Had a very old one that finally gave out…same brand. The new one is just the same but up to date technically. Works just like we need it to with very little programming.
William –
No storms yet to test functionality but setup was quick and easy.
Dick –
Works fine once I got the unit set up properly. Instructions are the best. Overall, it works better than the last one I had.
WilliamP –
i live in the country where we don,t always have internet and this is a good backup. can also use as alarm clock.
Duke –
Pretty good emergency radio. A couple of the selections are confusing but otherwise a good buy.
Chris –
Good to have, especially in Tennessee during tornado season. In case internet goes down it’s nice to have access to incoming storm threats.
TOMJ –
gift for my grandson, (XMAS) REALLY HASN’T OPENED IT YET BUT READ GOOD REVIEWS

I will never purchase anything from best buy again !!! I needed to return , just wanted to look for another clock with the face so you see from the side. Was told at the best buy store in Setauket NY that I could not return because it had been opened… when I went to the return desk the first thing the rude kid did WAS OPEN IT !!!
I was told by another ride kid.. who I was told was a supervisor said me you’re stuck with it .. you opened it.
I was so upset and went walking around the store for some one who had to be a manager.. he was nicer to me but also said I could not return because I opened it.. told me to go home and print out a return for ups. All the papers I had said I could return to any store or by mail.
