Although this game isn’t nearly as well thought out as Danganronpa, and the character/world aren’t as interesting, it’s a decent enough substitute for the time being. The gane does have a lot of issues though. The performace is terrible, and the gane is really foggy even though there’s such a small amount of stuff on screen. The gane game has onlyt delay during gameplay and even in the pause menu which can get annoying and mess you up when it shouldn’t. Shinigami is really annoying when not in the Mystery Labyrinth, so that blows. Although there is a lot of negatives, the gane still has team Danganronpa’s unique charm, and they clearly took some inspiration from Persona which isn’t a bad thing. I’m going to enjoy playing through this game, but I do hope it gets some patches soon.

  2. The3starreviewiswrong

Despite other reviews on here, this game is amazing! The characters, aesthetic, and world are uniquely designed and gorgeous. The story is fun to follow and has all the crazy twists and turns you’d expect from the creators of Danganronpa. Couldn’t have asked for more. While the game does appear fuzzy in handheld, the performance itself doesn’t suffer, and the game looks perfect docked. If you liked Danganronpa, buy this now. Or when it’s back in stock.

  3. Grant

A complete disappointment from how hyped-up the game has been by the developers and their previous work. Game is a slog to get through and the mystery is sadly predictable. Just really disappointed.

So, usually I dabble in this genre. Danganronpa, AI Somnium Files, Ace Attorney, etc. But none of those games have grabbed me in the way Rain Code has. The production values are so much higher than I’m accustomed to for games like this. And the prologue mystery was intense. Like, even near the end I couldn’t fit all the pieces together. But when I did it felt fantastic. I will say, the prologue dragged a bit longer than it needed, but once it was over the game really opens up. You get a freaking submarine for a base! Don’t worry- it’s not carbon fiber. Feels like a high budget Danganronpa with the style of Persona. It’s pretty dope.

  5. BigMcLargehuge

You can’t mistake this as anything other than the Danganronpa team’s next series, and that’s a great thing in my opinion. Rather than contriving some hackney reason to stay in that universe and inevitably selling a few more units at the cost of their sanity, chances were taken and the results are pretty dang entertaining. No Danganronpa experience necessary to enjoy this one, but if you’re a veteran of the series the tone, art, music, all just fit like a glove.

Listen, I’d love Danganronpa games until the heat death of the universe, but this is hardly a poor substitute. There’s plenty of differences to make this a new series with the same elements that made me love that series so much. To me this is a can’t miss and I recommend it to those looking to scratch that itch.

  6. BBgamer

Not quite as good the DanganRonpa games, but very similar in structure. If you like one series, you’ll like the other. One caution: If you’re sensitive to innuendo, you may want to skip this.

  7. ChrisS

Best Buy shipped it on time and I received upon release. The game is amazing, if you loved Danganronpa you’ll love this.
    Great story, characters, music, gameplay.

  8. PaulH

Pretty good story. Really does have a Danganronpa feel to it gameplay wise with some features missing though. Twists were a bit obvious and would’ve loved more interaction with certain characters to throw some more wrenches into it before and during the mystery solving, but enjoyable. Has a pinch of the Persona style world roaming to it. Somewhat easier than Danganronpa to get the friend simulator thing going, but definitely could’ve done some more to extend it a bit more. Loved the side missions. Music is pretty good. Wish the maze parts were more like a dungeon crawler type deal.

  9. lostinheadguy

So if you’re looking for more Danganronpa-like gameplay, this is absolutely your game… The deduction segments play out exactly like Danganronpa’s Non Stop debates but with character movement instead of a cursor.

And it’s certainly an intriguing new setting and story.

But performance is absolutely, unequivocally “hot garbage”. It can barely maintain 30 FPS even while docked, there is obvious texture load-in, certain visual effects don’t turn on right away, audio glitches all over… It really can take you out of it.

These games are notoriously easy to spoil so if you’re even remotely interested, you should pick it up. Oh wait, you can’t, because at the time of writing this, it’s sold out. Perhaps Spike Chunsoft didn’t expect this game to do well at all and didn’t produce a whole lot of copies. So wait for a sale on the eShop and get it that way.

  10. Evac

Great game if you like the mystery/detective novels and Danganronpa. The main attraction is the story is great and characters are interesting. The cons was that its quite easy and there are no alternate ending. There is a part of the epilogue that doesn’t make sense to me (survive source) but the overall ride was enjoyable.

Review from my Granddaughter – With Raincode. It reminds me a lot of past titles such as Danganronpa, Zero Escape and Ai The Somnium Files in some way or form. The gamyplay is smooth and the mysteries are great, they have serious moments and they have funny moments at the same time with a lot of creative twists and mini games to solve it with. My only really complaint is that I play this game in English and I don’t know if the Japanese dub has this but majority of the time when a character talks their mouth wouldn’t move on time or stay shut until after they are done speaking. The characters are also a nice touch to the game with all of their different personalities and takes on different things, it’s fun having then around as you’re in the mystery labyrinth and is a reason why this game is funny.

  12. GrievingDetective

Very fun game, definitely captures the spirit of Danganronpa, down to the introductory characters that are depicted on the cover with intricate designs and personalities and great voice acting… (SPOILER)

….which were completely wasted after being unceremoniously killed off. Love the game, still angry about how they wasted 5 character designs.

  13. AaronW

Came quickly in perfect condition on launch day, no regrets

  14. Jake

It’s a good game not a great one. If you like kazutaka kodaka games you will enjoy this. Don’t go in excepting danganronpa

  15. ShinsouBlue

If you played Danganronpa, it’s just like it. And it’s really good too!

  16. CcR1

Amazing game!!! The only thing I wish is if they could eliminate flashbacks in the game..

  17. sness

If you enjoyed with Danganronpa, you’ll probably like this. Similar strides. Story is a tad weak but its cast makes up for it.

  18. KDavis01

If you’re a fan of the Danganronpa series, and of any mystery based games in general, this is definitely for you! I wont spoil anything, but this has the same great/wacky storytelling as you’d expect from Spike Chunsoft, as well as many twists and turns around each corner.if you’re on the fence about this game, I’d tell you to dive right in, 100 percent!

  19. Finn

Amazing graphics fun gameplay. Recommend 100%. Unique gameplay

  20. Redfield

I’ve yet to play Rain Code, but i’ve consistently heard nothing but good things. I was drawn to this because of the dystopian/cyberpunk setting, detective-oriented story, and the dev team having previously worked on the Dangonronpa series (greatly enjoyed the first). Cant wait to play it!

  21. kaitlyncamryn

This is a very fun, exciting game. It is an rpg mystery game, you can spend countless hours playing it.

  22. NV2K19

Fun game! Very reminiscent of Danganronpa. Graphical performance is pretty bad however, but we come to expect it from switch games.

  23. AlexShook

First, if you like Dangonronpa, Phoenix Wright, or even visual novels like Doki Doki Literature Club this game is a must buy for you! I was expecting something like Phoenix Wright or Dangonronpa going in but this game feels like such a step forward from those games. Fully fleshed out 3D worlds, most lines are voice acted. Its fun its different its a visual treat. Although somewhat limited by the switch. It can get really weird but thats what i like about it. This game is not for kids so beware of that. Id say 16 and over. Must buy!

  24. Wesley

As a huge fan of the creaters work this is one of his best!, the esthetic and set pieces are masterly crafted along with the character designs. If your a fan of danganronpa or murderer mysterys in general THIS GAME IS FOR YOU.

  25. JohnP

If you enjoy adventure games then get ready for fun.

  26. Tsiki

As someone who was looking for that Danganronpa itch, this is really good. The first case alone was mind-numbing in the best of ways.

  27. Douglas

Rain Code is a captivating video game that truly immerses players in its unique world. The game’s stunning visuals and creative use of weather effects add a refreshing layer to the gaming experience. The storyline is intriguing, keeping players engaged as they unravel the mysteries within the rain-soaked landscape. The controls are smooth and intuitive, making navigation a breeze. While there were a few minor bugs encountered during gameplay, they didn’t significantly detract from the overall enjoyment. With its combination of atmospheric storytelling and innovative gameplay mechanics, Rain Code is a solid choice for those seeking a memorable gaming adventure.

  28. Mike

Great for fans of jrpgs alongside people who love mystery!

  29. The12thGripper

If you liked Danganronpa or AI Somnium Files, you’ll feel right at home playing this game.

  30. Phil

All the anime nostalgia . Feels like Phoenix Wright meets persona

  31. Josh

So this has undeniable vibes of Danganronpa, but it tries to do it’s own thing. As long as you know it’s not explicitly the same franchise, you’ll probably have a good time.

  32. QueensCentric

This is a pretty good game and it enjoyable. I still have not finished it yet but I am liking what I have played so far.

  33. HardcoreGrazer

  35. Michaela

Takes every lesson learned from the Danganronpa series and levels up the gameplay experience for something fresh but familiar for fans. A great new experience for fans of the genre and newcomers alike!

  37. RandyL

Really good game. Same studio who made danganronpa.

  38. Brandon

Still currently playing the game and loving every minute of it. Fans of the Danganronpa series will definitely enjoy this game. The story is gripping with a unique and fun set of characters. I can’t wait to see how the rest of the game plays out and then to play the DLC as well!

    10/10 definitely recommend!

Great game for Nintendo Switch. I recommend for most anyone.
