Description
  • The MartinLogan Sound
Regardless of the environment, MartinLogan speakers achieve high levels of articulation, detail, and realism. Utilizing exotic thin film technologies and Controlled Dispersion, MartinLogan provides unique and special listening experiences not commonly found in the industry.
  • Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeters
The state-of-the-art thin-film Gen2 FMT offers effortless performance, unmatched by conventional technologies. Utilizing a lightweight material with more surface area, the FMT brings the audience’s favorite content to life with extreme levels of detail and accuracy.
  • Motion Waveguide
Enhances the Controlled Dispersion of the Gen2 Folded Motion Tweeter, blanketing the listening area with incredible detail and precision. Avoids performance robbing room reflections and provides a more consistent sound across a wider seating area.
  • Controlled Dispersion
Room acoustics are vital, as everything in the listening room has an impact on speaker performance. MartinLogan minimizes these harmful effects by focusing the sound into the listening area, increasing flexibility, clarity, and placement options, regardless of the room’s design.
  • Woven Fiberglass Midrange
The lightweight and strong Woven Fiberglass midrange in the Motion series is perfectly suited for keeping pace with Motion’s Gen2 FMT, providing crystal clear dialogue and vocals, as well as lifelike instrumentals.
  • McCracken-Vojtko Crossovers
The culmination of combining extensive anechoic, in-room measurements, and multiple blind listening tests with the low distortion philosophy of MartinLogan’s signature Vojtko Crossover. Through this process each speaker was refined to achieve peak performance.
  • Enchanced Cabinet Bracing
If a speaker cabinet isn’t braced properly, it will vibrate or resonate, resulting in masked clarity and detail. This 4th generation Motion series features specially engineered bracing to maximize sound quality by minimizing unwanted vibrations and resonances.
  • Secure Lock Grilles
Stealth mounting tabs securely hold the grilles in place allowing the listener to customize the appearance of each speaker. Creating a unique look; leaving the grilles on, off, or even rotating them to change the grain of the fabric providing maximum aesthetic control.
  • Single Cannon Bass Ports
Rear ported speaker designs need ‘room to breathe,’ which can conflict with a room’s layout or decor as they require ample spacing from a wall or cabinet. The bottom mount port provides deeper, cleaner, and more powerful bass across a wider range of placement options.
  • Floor-Bounce Compensation
Bringing studio reference sound to reality with precision woofer placement and crossover tuning, MartinLogan engineers have designed their tower models to produce a more natural and full sound by taking advantage of a constant found in all listening rooms; the floor!
  • F.A.S.T. Foot
Toolless height adjustability utilizing rubber feet or spikes allows the user to perfectly level the speaker for maximum stability on any floor. Built-in anti-vibration properties lower distortion by reducing ‘judders’ between the speaker and the floor, leaving nothing but pure sound.

  1. Adam

I was extremely excited to get the opportunity to review these MartinLogan F10 tower speakers. I’ve been in the market for an upgraded pair to replace an older set, and have done a lot of research. I have to admit, I wasn’t sure if I needed to go this route in today’s age, with all the advancement in sound technology. As I currently also own 2 top tier 2022 soundbar systems from the top two TV manufacturers, and they are pretty good for what they are and the cost. Let me tell you, if you’re debating that, just stop. After hearing these, I could not have been more wrong….these floorstanding speakers are phenomenal, beyond compare! The clarity of these speakers when listening to any audio track, provided a great sound stage and enhanced clarity. My receiver is likely slightly underpowered to fully push these to their peak, as it only outputs ~90w@8ohm/ch. I did notice some clipping and lack of clarity on hifi tracks when up near +5dB, though, again, likely a limitation of my receiver rather than the speakers. I also tested these on current gen movies in Atmos, and it sounded better than a theater. The integrated bridge on the inputs can be easily removed, but in my circumstance and setup, it stayed, as I haven’t gotten into bi-amping. The overall clarity and accuracy in sound detail, even at higher levels, is very good. Bass is well supported by a good cone and driver. The integrated crossover in the tower separates out frequencies to the appropriate woofers exceptionally well. I honestly have no complaints. These are perfect for anyone looking for front L&R speakers for a home theater surround, and work just as well on their own as a stereo setup.

I should also say, you’re getting an expertly engineered design with top notch materials. The gloss black is perfect for what we were going for to blend into our living room. The packing was great, and the feet being that simple to adjust, as well as including swappable rubberized or points for use on hard floor or carpet is very intuitive.

MartinLogan’s latest series of Motion speakers are an absolute juggernaut, with the F10 being the new anchors to my home theater providing a stellar mixture of sound and build quality that I’ve not previously seen on a set of speakers. This is a complete winner, and those willing to spend the money will be rewarded with speakers that feel truly upscale well beyond their price point, provided you have an amplifier or receiver capable of driving these at 4 ohms to reach optimal performance.

Like the C10, unboxing the F10 speakers was an experience. While not being particularly large floor standers in dimension, they have an immense heft, build quality, and style that make these feel ultra premium. I have the piano black finish, and it’s a stunningly luxurious looking finish that makes these feel like they should be more expensive than they are. As with the others in this series, MartinLogan ditched the monolothic style speaker grill cover in favor of covers that only cover the drivers, allowing you to show off your speakers in all their glory. One other thing to note here is the feet they’ve bundled in with the F10s. The feet attach to the bottom and give you some isolation and allow you to level the speakers. These feet are incredibly well designed, and make leveling painless. I’ve seen this style done before, but this is far and away the best implementation I’ve seen.

Onto the sound… Wow, what a sound it is. I’ve had various other speakers around this price range over the past 10 years in my home theater, but these absolutely blew me away. Their balance and definition are truly captivating, giving new life to all types of content that I’ve previously watched. Everything from dialog heavy Tarantino movies to action packed James Cameron blockbusters absolutely jumped out of the F10s in a way that makes these feel like a long term home theater fixture. The response from the highs to the lows was always composed, not once feeling fatiguing or strained over a week of listening so far. What amazes me most about these is that the entire spectrum of sound is accounted for and evenly reproduced until you get into the lower frequencies. The the folded tweeter design shines, throwing out an unexpectedly balanced high end with an equally unexpected dispersion that exceeds any of the various dome tweeters I’ve had. Mids are present and highly intelligible, and blend seamlessly between the highs of the tweeter and the lows of the two subs. If there’s a downside or complaint to be had, it’s probably with the lows. My best description of the bass response of the F10s is that it’s adequate. It’s plenty punchy and present for the most part, but to be honest, you’re doing yourself a disservice if you don’t pair these with a subwoofer. This is especially evident compared to the frequency response up the range where the tweeter and mid driver effortlessly handle everything. That being said, a subwoofer isn’t absolutely necessary, as the F10s do a decent job of low end extension, likely in part do the down firing bass port. This gives you added flexibility to place these closer (or further) from your walls than others with rear firing ports. The immense sound stage thrown out by the F10s is not only evident with movies, but also with music. Whether you’re running these in stereo or as part of a surround setup, you will not be disappointed. I put these through the paces of various genres from folk to hip hop to metal, and they never once flinched. Listening to Steven Wilson’s Hand.Cannot.Erase made evident just how great these things are. The album has a wide range of sonic sound scapes, and the F10 nailed every one of them, breathing a new life into the songs that I hadn’t really experienced before. These honestly sound so good that I question whether MartinLogan has properly priced these. I can only guess just how absolutely incredible their new XT range of speakers are given how amazing the F10s are.

As with my C10 review, I’ve run out of compliments to levy at the F10s. They so far exceeded my expectations that I can’t help but feel that even at their relatively steep asking price, you’re getting a bargain. If you’re in the market for a set of stereo or home theater speakers in this price range, you will not be disappointed with these. Just plan to budget for a subwoofer if you’re the type of person that loves to be engulfed with bass as that’s the singular area that these didn’t blow me away.

The new fourth generation MartinLogan Motion 10 Tower speakers bring a high level of clarity and detail in a compact, stylish package! The folded tweeter provides crisp, accurate highs that pair excellently with the woven fiber mid and dual bass drivers (all three 5.5” diameter drivers). The “wave guide” over the tweeter and the down-firing bass port disperses pressure to the floor, using it as a means to deliver a very wide listening stage for the pair that requires almost no adjusting the speakers throughout the room to fill the space and create a precise image between the left and right speakers. This is incredibly useful for those, like myself, who do not have a perfectly squared off living/great room that can assist most speakers with filling the room. These speakers fill the entire room with ease! I have them paired with the matching C10 center channel and MP10 bookshelf speakers as surrounds. The set works phenomenally together to create a truly cinematic experience without having to worry about sticky theater floors, $15 popcorn, and uncomfortable seats! The crossover works great at targeting which frequencies to send to which drivers, but they truly sound best when bi-amplified (made easy by removing the keyed metal plates, which also make re-installing the plates easy).

The look of the speakers is a very nice piano black, except the front which is a matte black. This does present the challenge of keeping them clean, they don’t really attract fingerprints (not a huge worry after they’re installed) but they are magnets for dust! They do come with covers that offer an acoustically clear means of keeping dust off the cabinets, but it’s not a look for everyone, even if they do easily come off to show the speakers off when guests come over (which you will want to do).

All around, the speakers are absolutely stunningly beautiful, crisp, accurate, and easily to set up. The dial adjusting feet make it so easy to level the speakers, you’ll wonder why anyone (myself included) would ever fight with small tools or lifting speakers to get a tower balanced! I would recommend them with the only caveat being the dust, but the real winner is the sound quality. These speakers will draw your attention so deeply into what you’re listening to, music or movies, that you might not remember notice the beautifully designed cabinets or some dust/dust covers.

As any home theatre enthusiast can certainly attest to, finding a perfect speaker is certainly a difficult endeavor; even more so if your home theatre space is limited. As such, I was excited to test the newly released Martin Logan F10 floor standing speaker. With a compact size and glossy black finish, this certainly seems to be a viable compact solution without sacrificing sound quality.

Upon first inspecting the F10s, you will note several accessories included in the box. First, you will note four large brackets with the hard surface feet preinstalled. Secondly, there are four extremely sharp feet for you to use on carpet but I personally eluded not use these. Physically, once you have successfully unboxed your F10, the speaker has exceptional workmanship. The gloss black model is extremely elegant and is a sight to behold. Surprisingly, each speaker does have some weight to it, clocking in at 50 lbs each. However, due to their compact size, I was able to easily move and position them without issue. Lastly, you will note two sets of terminals on the back that support a bi-amp configuration. All in all, I believe most will be completely satisfied at the modern look of the F10s.

Before I discuss my testing results, I first would like to mention that all the results here will more than likely differ from what your personal experience, especially given the wide range of common variables such as room size, layout, different receivers, cables, speaker placement, and your personal sound interpretation. For my testing, I used a Pioneer Elite receiver VSX-LX303. All speakers were connected via custom cut lengths of Audioquest X2 speaker wire. For playback, I used my Sony X800M2 4K bluray player; the player and my Sony A90J OLED TV were respectively connected to the receiver via two Audioquest Cinnamon 8-10K HDMI 5 FT cables (MODEL: HDM48CIN150). Additionally, I increased both front left and right channels slightly to +5.0db in the receiver settings. Lastly, I made sure distance was set to 6 ft and impedance was set properly to 4 ohms. For my tests, I listen to different genres of music and tested one movie. All music was encoded in FLAC and was ripped from my personal CD collection. Every song was scanned with a spectrogram and had its frequency analyzed to make sure they are proper lossless quality. Lastly, I was about 6 feet from the F10s during my observations.

Upon firing up my classical and jazz collection, the F10s immediately impressed with electrifying clarity. Starting with Jazz, I fired up Dave Brubeck’s Take Five (44.1 KHZ / 16 Bit) and the results were pretty exciting. Snares and drums were nice a crisp. The double bass was perfectly reproduced, and the piano set right on top in between the saxophone. Additionally, the dynamics were superb as I did not have to increase the volume at all. Switching to classical, I swapped to Schumann’s String Quartet No 1 in A Minor by the Ying Quartet (192 KHz/24 Bit). As before, the instruments are clear and blend together seamlessly. I actually heard some sounds that I hadn’t before. Highs and middle frequencies were tight and clear and the cello on the low end was warm and inviting. It sounded as if the whole quartet was in my room. Switching genres, I swapped to rock by playing Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody and the results are just the same. The F10s do a really good job of reproducing vocals and each instrument as before. Guitars were punchy and weren’t overly compressed or muddy. Swapping to other genres such as dance or trance, highs were clear. Symbols or snare sounds were extremely prominent. As for bass response, given the size of the speaker, one should keep their expectations within reason. However, I was extremely surprised at how much bass these speakers were actually able to reproduce. The low end is definitely present and has a nice deep tone to it, yet it was still able to maintain clear highs and middle frequencies. Moreover, another thing I noticed was that the closer you are to the speaker the bass immediately improved and became much more emphasized. Additionally, while standing in between each speaker, the bass seemingly created an encompassing effect that allowed me to experience even more rumble. This was really quite stunning given they are only rated for 38 Hz. You can clearly hear this on Eminem’s Stan or Tech9’s He’s A Mental Giant. Both bass lines are punchy and provide excellent rumble. Thus, the smaller the space F10s are stored the more bass you will likely experience. Overall, the F10s perform exceptionally well and most should be pleased. Lastly, I eluded tested the 4K disc of the recently released Training Day (2001). As expected, dialogue was clear and crisp. Additionally, the F10s did a fabulous job on some of the notable bass sections, specifically during gun fight sequences. There was also some good rumble from the car engine at the beginning of the movie. All in all, the F10s perform as intended.

In conclusion, the F10s are a wonderful option for those who want a relatively compact speaker without the sacrifice in sound quality. All of my music genres played with exceptional accuracy and clarity. I was able to isolate each instrument, yet still found myself lost in the wonder warmth of the soundstage. The sound has an excellent natural quality to it. With a compact design and elegant glossy black coating, the F10s comes recommended.

  5. BillnMish

Representing the floorstanding portion of the Motion Series is the F10. From top to bottom you get a 1″ x 1/4″ tweeter, 5.5″ mid, and 2 x 5.5″ for the lows.

And while the F10 does have a small footprint, it is quite heavy at ~50lbs. Quality parts mean heft, and that is a good thing when it comes to longevity and better sound quality.

The packaging is top-notch, very well thought out (simple but effective) and not a chance of anything getting damaged short of the box itself getting ripped in half.

I let the speakers play at a subtle volume for a day to get some time on them before doing any critical listening. But once that was out of the way it was well worth the wait. Everything is right where it should be in the soundstage. Nothing is overpowering or interfering with any other elements, allowing you to get lost in sound that is full, robust, and accurate.

Aesthetics are simple across all speakers in the Motion Series, so some might find the looks of the F10 underwhelming. Personally, I like how they blend into whatever room you place them and don’t command your attention. This only adds to the forgetting they’re there in the room with you element previously mentioned.

The C10 (center) and MP10 (multi-purpose) follow suit providing great sound for their respective duties. Easy recommendation for all as MartinLogan continues a long history of amazing quality products for reasonable (albeit, not cheap) prices. A textbook example of “you get what you pay for.”
