TopDog –
This AV receiver is an excellent choice That was helped Made by Geese squad personnel a From best buy. I love the receiver it’s an Excellent upgrade from what I had.
Rocky3634 –
This is amazing for the 7.2 Dolby Atmos setup. Sound is amazing partly because of the speakers I got but even more so that this unit have a lot of settings, configurations and drives the speakers to get the sound you want. GREAT purchase!
CalDogg –
Overall, I really enjoyed this receiver. Home theater and multi-channel audio was excellent. Audyssey did a great job on the speakers but all but eliminated my subwoofers volume (two) so I had to manually turn up the subwoofer volume after Audyssey did its thing. I have older Polk speakers (LSi15; 88db, 4ohm) which require some power and volume to light up and sounded nice on the pure direct mode but the receiver would shut down after a bit when turning the volume up for longer than 30 minutes.
I did have some issues with the HDMI switching but wasn’t sure if it was due to the cables that I was using (ordered new 8k “certified” cables to replace mono price 4k). Ultimately, I decided to return the unit and wait for the Cinema 40 to be released as it has more of a stout amplifier design and 5 year warranty. If the 40 does not serve my needs, I will go back to the 50 and add a couple of external mono block amps to my front channels.

The sound is so crisp and clear i really didn’t expect this..

Excellent AVR, good power 110 watts, connections for 4 subs. Supports all audio formats. Flexible configurations. HIFI music listening to ATMOS movie streaming or 4K HDR DVD it’s great. The only negative I have is the tiny display on the the front. Because I use the Marrantz app on my phone it’s not an issue.
BestBuyTony –
This is my first Marantz product and I’m quite happy with my decision to finally upgrade the heart of my system. I’m able to run 7.4.2 with Klipsch reference and have flexibility to add another channel at some point. Sound is warm and enveloping, movies are robust yet crisp. Purchased in November and it took me a few weeks to dial it in and fully reach perfection, but it is spot on. After calibration, I did have to bump up the bass a bit, since Audyssey seems to set subs a touch too low. Highly recommend to everyone, including the serious audiophile.

Does everything it says it will do. Improved sound from sub-woofer and music sounds fantastic

Not happy at all. Upgraded from SR5012. Had no issues before but this has major audio clipping issues. Tried roku plugged into tv using earc. Clipping tried apple tv. Clipping. Plugged directly into receiver clipping on both apple tv and roku.
Than its starting to keep switching inputs when no buttons are pressed lately. Factory reset with same issues. The issues dis stop for one week but returned.
Bestbuy only has 15 day returns which is horrible. Now the receiver is boxed up ready to be shipped to marantz.
Old receiver is now plugged in with no issues. Way too expensive for issues like this.

I own 4 or 5 different Marantz models. Im a bit of an audio addict lol but was very impressed with this device all and all. Theres other options but this one isn’t a bad choice at all.

Let me start by saying…WOW! I know this receiver is $2500 but I will say, it is worth it. I done a ton of research on 9.2 receivers to replace my Pioneer Elite LS303 and listened to a couple in the store and ultimately decided on the Cinema 50.
Pros: Amazing sound quality that really made my speakers come to life. I rewatched several movies just to hear the difference in the sounds and special effects. It has all the bells and whistles like 4k/120hz for gaming and it looks great. It has 4 seperate subwoofer outputs so when doing room calibration it adjusts the level on each just like your other speakers. Audyssey room calibration worked really well. Most importantly, power! The Cinema 50 is rated much higher on wattage to the speakers but it is definitely more powerful. My Klipsch setup has never sounded like this.
Cons: Price. At $2500 it is kind of expensive. The other thing is that you have to pay an extra $259-$349 for Dirac Live after buying the receiver if you want it. So far, I’m really happy with the Audyssey calibration and the way the system sounds. Maybe one day I’ll want to upgrade to Dirac but for now I think I’ll hold off.
Overall: Amazing receiver and I feel like is worth the money if you want an awesome sounding home theater.

The best product I have ever used can not wait to see avatar 2 (I know March 28) super clear sound.more choices a bonus your music will even sound prefect The use one remote controlling everything you use is nice.
JPR767 –
Glad they went back to the backlit remote and now able to control everything from an iPhone. Updated room correction options makes things easy for great sound.
DisabledandabusedatBestBu –
The unit did not come close to fitting the space allotted, despite claims from sales that “it absolutely would”.
Between this and a defunct Ebike I spent and returned $7,000 from two large, heavy items – ALL WHILE I WAS IN A WHEELCHAIR OR WALKER.

It’s pretty lame that you don’t give reward points anymore, unless I use your stupid Credit Card.
I guess I wont buy from you guys anymore.
Himothy –
After finally settling with the right receiver I can say the cinema 50 offers some of the best value for a medium sized home theater setup. Power, clarity, and compatibility is amazing.
Dinotopia –
This was a suprise gift as an upgrade for an Onkyo of similar class that was about 8 years old. This unit took some time to setup and update, but once all said and done the results were great.
PeterV –
AVR integrates well with Sony Bravia TV, ceiling speakers (3 front, 2 rear, and subwoofer. Make sure you have the best HDMI cable available….
AnupM –
I bought this AVR to replace my old Denon S930H. I have a 5.1.4 setup. While I never thought the Denon was underpowered but Marantz is a big upgrade.
Usage: 85% music and rest is movies played through Panasonic UB820.
Music source is Amazon Music (lossless), some Pandora and YouTube.
I was debating between Denon x3800H and this receiver, glad I chose Marantz. Music sounds better on Marantz.
Pros:
– Looks beautiful, side panels have a subtle design, and the white under glow on front panel looks premium with black body.
– Plenty of power for music and movies, my 18’x15’ room is probably more than adequately served.
– Remote is backlit and that’s a nice touch.
– HEOS and Marantz apps work seamlessly, I use Amazon music and Pandora, have had no issues.
– Soundstage in stereo mode has opened up tremendously compared to old Denon. My Focal Vestia Towers sound warm accompanied with floating notes. (Focals are a tad bright, Denon made them sound harsh at times).
– Watched several movies, bass is deep, atmos speakers actually opened up portraying depth as well as awesome transitions from 4 Atmos speakers and 2 surrounds.
– Binding posts are top notch.
– Really like the speaker designated labels, I thought that was a nice touch.
– Have not used Dirac but so far Audyseey has served me well.
– The Marantz interface matches the current decade (old interface was dated).
– I am eager to come home and listen to music, it is such a delight.
– Even my Klipsch RP-150M bookshelves sounded way better compared to Denon.
– I do not know the circuit related differences but this receiver sounded way better compared to several others during my auditioning for music or movies. I definitely think this is a top-shelf model and not middle or bottom shelf. You definitely get your moneys worth.
– Plenty of Prepouts for future expansion.
– I was hesitant to get this AVR when I read about HDMI issues but I have never had any issues. Seems to work adequately.
Cons:
– Need I say the price? Quality does come at a price.
– Display on the receiver is tiny almost cannot read it from distance.
GeorgeT –
I’ve setup my Cinema 50 5.1.4 in a 14′ x 24″ space and for Dolby Atmos movies and shows the sound is clean and beautiful. The most amazing part of the sound is the smooth presentation of very bassy sounds that include really low components and midrange sounds. Also, the placement of overhead and surround sounds is crystal clear. I wouldn’t use this receiver in much larger room, I’ve found the sound adequate but not super loud. Overall, the setup was easy but I would have liked more information in the manual about HDMI parameters, perhaps examples of devices people are likely to use like an Apple TV input. I struggled with this a bit. I wish I could use the remote as a universal controller, especially to change channels on an Xfinity cablebox, but I don’t think this is possible.
Ikonic –
Absolutle solid build and amazing sound quality. Marantz always knocks it out the park with their units.
NateB –
Masterful piece of audio equipment. Sound quality through this is only limited by speakers. To many options and features to go over but has literally everything but the kitchen sink
BruceT –
Very happy with Receiver. Works great and sounds even better. Dolby atmos sounds the best!
JaridM –
Marantz, nuff said… ok I have to say more.. dude, its the best avr i ever owned..have had denon, yamaha.. forget it.. this thing is BA
SanDiskReview –
It works well as a replacement for a Marantz 730. I hope it keeps working. The front panel is aesthetically pleasing, but I liked the blue front light on the 730. Only con is that this one costs $100 more.
KDeal –
The sound is amazing and the unit is quite nice to look at
RickB –
The Marantz is an awesome amplifier
I had one of the best Yamahas that went out. I cannot believe the 3 dimensional sound coming from the Marantz. Wish I would have bought one 40 years ago!!!
Kirby –
The Cinema 50 provides high quality sound with plenty of power for any Home Theater. It was easy to set-up with the on-screen menu that walks you through your speaker configuration. The receiver provides great picture quality to my display. Works as advertised using Ultra high-resolution cables. I am very pleased and would recommend this AVR receiver to all.
JustinP –
Debated between the 40 and 50 primarily just the cost issue. However I am blown away by the upgrade even coming from a smaller Marantz. Put the money saved into a better power amp for the front speakers (Emotiva XPA 2 channel and added BasX 5 channel to carry some of the load of surounds. Still running 2 height sets through the reciever. Music is phenominal in 2.1 running A+B front speakers. I guess would like to hear the 40 but I can’t imagine it’s that much better. Has preouts for all channels and can add 4 subs. Plan to add another SVS 3000 at some point just to hear the separation eventually get to 4 subs? I am very pleased with birthday present to myself. Dirac is a little misleading you have to pay for it but it’s a game changer for me since I have always used Audyessy
Greatdrive –
Works great with my TV and 6 speakers. Could not be happier!
GaryT –
It’s ok
I’ve had it for less than a month.
3 times when powering on the sound has failed to come on.
Only by powering down and powering on again was I able to get sound back
Dirtking –
Was originally skeptical with purchasing this receiver for a HI FI surround system considering I was going to run some high demeaning electrostatic speakers. But this receiver has really blown me away. It has a great sounding built in DAC and has plenty of power to drive some fairly hard to drive speakers. The features built in are flawless and I have had no issues with any software bugs. In short if you are looking for a phenomenal sounding A/V reviver to output amazing sound in a atoms system look no further!
BedroomTV –
A must have in you entertainment system. Perfect for home theater
EGGIE –
Stellar upgrade from SR5012. Balanced and accurate separation of tones in movies & Hi-Fi music.
edsolo –
I upgraded from a Denon x4500h. This marantz unit is clearer and just a easy to use with the interface setup a the denon. If you have the budget by all means buy the cinema 40 or highest model. But sonically you may not tell much of a diference between the 50 and 40 model. Im running b&w 702 s2 for lcr and all other surround/atmos with ease in my theater room.
SebastianB –
Very good sounds clear quality
Setup easy speaker testing good
PalashBanerjee –
I love this receiver compared to few others I have tried in the past. Little expensive compared to them but worthy if you want quality sound. Eventually, you don’t need an amplifier for good quality speakers.
SITHsayer –
upgrade from a slim marantz engine….huge upgrade. the engine that drives my home theater. I went from a 4 banger to a v12 engine !!!
auro 3d is the best sound mixer!
Derek –
Great av receiver and excellent set up walk through making it an easy experience.
BradleyS –
Excellent product, well worth the money. I would recommend the Marantz Cinema 50 to anyone with a top of the line home theater system.
ConsumerZero –
I upgraded to the Cinema 50 after owning a Marantz NR1603 since it was released. I’ve always had B&W speakers and thought that what I had was enough since my room was on the smaller side. I decided to upgrade when I saw Marantz’s 70th anniversary trade in program, and I decided on the Cinema 50.
It was clear from the first 10 minutes that the Cinema 50 is a clear step up from what I had… not to mention the new design of Marantz products is really nice. The best way I can describe it is everything sounds bigger, even at low volumes. I don’t consider myself an “audiophile”, but I like audio and home theater gear. It looks nice and sounds great.
While this isn’t the cheapest option out there for what you get, in my opinion (and considering what i had before), I do think that there is definitely a noticeable sonic difference which translates to using it more often which is kind of the whole point, right?
Jamesr –
I have had many receivers from pioneer elite, yamaha aventage, and denon receivers. This marantz is the best by far. More thean enough hdmi inputs for all your devices. More power than my other receivers and the audessey audio calibration gets my system up and sounding great. I run a 7.2.2 sound system with bi-amped front towers. Front dolby atmos speakers on top of my towers. Speakers have more depth and wider soundstage. My speakers have never sounded better. Buy it, you wont be disappointed
Rthrifty –
Review based on four weeks of ownership. Great price point for the functionality.
GaryB –
Excellent!!!! Get One!!! Still exploring options !!
JustinW –
I couldn’t be more pleased with the quality and performance of the Cinema 50.
MrTechObserver –
I purchased this receiver as upgrade to my old AV receiver. This receiver has all the necessary HDMI ports allow me to hook up all my gaming systems and computer and play them at 4K 120 Hz on my TV. Would buy again.
Enzo51 –
Amazing receiver! Sound is amazing. You can hear the difference and woke up my sub. My old receiver was only 5 years old. Now sounds like a movie theater at half volume. Only regret was not going to the module above to add move speakers in the future.
Rock –
User friendly the best AV receiver for this price point.
Xicor –
Totally worth the money!!! Because of this beauty my bedroom theater is off the charts!!! Sound is beautiful and loud. Also used for my gaming
GilbertL –
Hands down the best receiver I’ve ever bought. Marantz does a great job with the initial set up process walking you through every step. Marantz uses Audyssey MultEQ ET32 for room correction and calibration. I must say after running Audyssey, my Paradigm’s never sounded so good. This receiver is worth every penny!
MichaelS –
Very nice unit for home theater and surround sound system
