Upgraded from a Parasound C2 pre-amp. The sound is terrific. Easy setup, and audyssey works great to calibrate the speakers. Running a pair of Martin Logan Vistas + Depth i sub (ML Motif center). Audyssey has done a great job of calibrating the speakers with the sub. Sound is neutral to slightly warm, which I like. Used as main music listening and light duty for watching movies.

One word, amazing. I am impressed.
Well worth the money
I had Marantz SR7011 with was a good receiver, I decided to try separate, because I’m a Marantz fan, I decided to go with Marantz AV7706 and MM8077, best decision, the sound AMAZING.
I love the sound so much that now I’m spending way more time in the basement than with my wife. LOL

The marantz preamp is an excellent product. It has great detail for music and movies. There are many inputs and outputs. The hdmi zone 2 out is a great feature.

I upgraded from the Marantz 7015. The difference is night and day. The sound stage on two speaker listening incredible while the 11.2.4 is outstanding. This is worth the money without question.

One of the best balanced output receivers for the money. With the HDMI 2.1 and HDCP 2.2 & 2.3 it’s also future proof for a long while. The 4K upscaling is incredible and works flawlessly. Can’t speak to the 8K as I do not have an 8K TV. I’m running a 5.1.2, the .2 at the end is for my 2 atmos height channels and boy do they make a difference, so much I’m adding in 2 more for the rear! You’re not going to find a better Receiver with all its features for the money. I was looking a Emotiva but couldn’t justify the $4-5K price. Purchase this one, you will be happy you did!

Very solid AV processor has 8K pass thru although it has the HDMI bug but not a big deal for me

Coming from a onkyo rz830 to this Marantz 7706 using a monolith and emotiva amp has been a big change in sound quality. Best way i can describe it is more dynamic detail in sound. Better channel separation from each speaker. I recommend gettin the $20 app for additonal calibration with audyssey.

I bought this to replace my old AVR. All I can say is this pre-amplifier amazing. You get the classic look with more features.

I bought this product for the 3 audio zones and Balanced audio outputs. Very few options out there with these features.

I have spent the Summer buying and returning all Sound United products, including the Denon X4700H and two Marantz AV7706 units.
In this review, the Marantz AV7706 is nice, all around, except for one problem: frequent audio drop-out when using either ARC or Fiber-Optic audio (TOSLINK) from my Samsung TV.
So, I have a 2017 Samsung Q75, which I never had issues connected to any Onkyo AVR’s, but, once I connected it to the Marantz, using various new HDMI 2.1 cables and fiber-optic audio (TOSLINK) cables, just to test and see if there were any cable quality issues, I end up with the same results…when using the TV’s built-in HDMI ports, and using either ARC or TOSLINK, the Marantz unit will have audio drop-out!
The only way to restore audio playback it is to change the input on the Marantz from TV to something else, and back to TV, and the audio is restored.
Don’t get me wrong, when this thing is playing audio, it does it well! Unfortunately, all of the Marantz units I purchased had the exact same problem. I found this highly unacceptable, especially for the price of this unit. Needless to say, I returned it, and went back to an Onkyo TX-RZ810, until recently, upgrading to the new Onkyo TX-RZ50, which is far superior in HDMI 2.x video specifications, over the current Marantz and Denon models, with zero audio drop-outs!
If Sound United learns a few important lessons from the 2021 Onkyo line-up, and even Yamaha’s 2021 line-up (if Yamaha actually delivers on their firmware update promises), then I think the next Marantz AV pre-processor will be a 5-star purchase!
I’m still keeping my eye out for the next model replacement for the Marantz AV7706. Hopefully, Marantz will fix all of their problems and get back on track to live up to what I am seeing as a over-hyped reputation.

I purchased the AV7706 and set it up at home. No sound. Called their tech-support and was on for 25 minutes without success. She told me to return it and order another one. Brought home the second one a week later. Hooked everything up. No sound again. Was on with tech-support for 45 minutes trying every single option possible to troubleshoot. Finally I was told to return it, probably a bad sound card and probably part of a batch of bad manufactured preamps. As soon as I hooked up my old preamplifier both times, I was back in business at home. I don’t understand how Marantz quality control can be so bad. Will be looking into another manufacturer. So long Marantz.

Awesome when paired with a quality amp. Get the app for 20 bucks to go along with it, you can change the settings to fit your style.

This was installed in my theatre to replace a Lexicon that had gone out. Works great.

My first pre-pro works great . I can really tell deference in sound seperation compared to my old marantz receiver

So I like to begin by saying the usual, “I usually don’t write reviews” which is true in my case. I picked up the 7706 to replace an aging 8801. I’m getting a new tv installed and needed a processor update. The 8801 was , and still is an incredible processor if you have no need for current hdmi and 4K. This 7706 is my third marantz my second processor and previous av receiver. This thing sounds amazing, then sound stage for movies is the best yet, and blu-ray concerts are amazing (using a oppo 203). I have two emotiva amps running the show (great amps) the upgrade was absolutely amazing vs the 8801, even though the 8 line is higher end in marantz line you can tell that in the last number of years, everything has gotten better. I want to end with this…marantz 7706 already has 2.1 hdmi and all the goodies…if you compare to emotiva, or anthem and others….more expensive 2.0 hdmi. One more word on that E company. Incredible amps solid great value…processors. Not so much..hit or miss I had the xmc-1. After countless bugs and calls, I sent it back…I want to enjoy my system..not troubleshoot products that aren’t finished or up to standards. Marantz out of the box …works, and you enjoy…like apple products…they just work…..

Exceeded my very high product expectations. Still exploring the many adjustments/tweaks available to enhance both sound and picture quality. Fits well with my Emotiva amplifiers.

The av7706 is awesome. Video is running at 2160p through it.
Audio is beautiful. Still dialing everything in.

Love this unit. I upgraded from Separates that I got in 2008 and the changeover was easy with a quick setup. The audio quality is stellar—I look forward to having this one for as long as I had the previous one!
AudioJake –
Another great unit replacing my 7703. Wow I really like the Bluetooth transmitting capability that I did not have with the previous Marantz unit.

I purchased the AV7706 to be paired up with the MM8077 and the MM7055 to for fill my home theater needs. The family and I are really enjoy watching movies at home now and it like being at the movie theater, but in the comfort of your own home.

This unit replaces my Marantz (2011) AV7005 processor that recently self “retired”. Being that this unit is 11 years later in the line, the feature set and sound processing are superior. The unit is connected to a 5.2.2 system consisting of the AV7706, B&W CMS2 speakers, NHT 200 watt amps, HSU/Earthquake 15″ subs, SVS Prime Altos (purchased after the processor), Oppo and PS4 source units and a Panasonic 3d Plasma Display.
Once connected and tuned (room correction) I played various hi rez 2.0/5.1 music on sacd, dvd audio and Blu-ray. What a difference 11 years can make in processing. The sound produced was clearer less muddy and the room correction is much more advanced that the first gen. Also adding Atmos processing for front “height” made Atmos encoded movies sound much fuller (millage may very by movie).
I’m not going to get into the feature set because if you are reading this you know what it/they are. I would recommend this unit as it is the least expensive on the market, sounds great and and will be future proof for the next 10 years.

A few months ago I left a review here of the Marantz AVR 7015 that was less than stellar. In that review I mentioned the very good experience I have had with my Marantz AV7702Mkii pre-pro in my main HT room. After the experience with the 7015 AVR bedroom system when I decided to upgrade my existing main HT room pre-pro I was frankly very hesitant to stay with the Marantz brand. I did a lot of research and looked at the Rotel, Arcam and Emotiva units. In the end, I have been so pleased with my Marantz pre-pro over the years I decided to take the plunge on faith. Bought the AV7706 and have been listening to it for about a week. The result so far? Pure heaven. The improvements in the surround performance (subjective but hey – in the end its what you hear that counts) were nothing short of dramatic. Localization of surround effects when called for were noticeable. Atmos performance is striking. Extremely clear and properly positioned dialog channel. With the Mkii I often had to turn the volume up close to the highest setting to achieve the full presence of a soundtrack. While the numeric level of the volume indicator still seems to be a bit high, I do notice the fullness of the sound in movies very much present at much lower volume levels. In short, I am absolutely tickled with the performance and glad my AVR experience did not carry over to the AV 7706.

I’ve owned the Marantz 7706 preamp controller for just a couple weeks now but I am impressed by its clarity of sound and picture quality for my Home Theater. The feature that allows me to connect my iPhone and play music through my system is an added bonus. However once in a while the handshake between the projector and the preamp will fail to produce sound and I’ll have to reboot the preamp in order to make the proper connection. All in all I would recommend the Marantz 7706 for home theaters and serious music audiophiles.

Finally converted to a separates audio setup and I am so glad I did it. Really happy to have this as the brain of my setup

I like the features on this product. It’s a great value for the price.

This is one of the best separate processors on the market.

I took a chance on this processor and I have not regretted it. I’ve been using this in my 7.2.4 home theater for the past two years and it does a great job. I see no need to upgrade anytime soon as it comes loaded with so many features. It works great out of the box but you get the best out of it after you calibrate it. Get the paid MultiEQ app and use that to calibrate it for the best performance. I paired this with some Emotiva amps to drive my speakers.

Amazing decoding and channel separation. This processor took my home theater to another level . Dolby Atmos and Auro 3D are fantastic.
