Shopper –
I bought this fridge a year ago and turned around and bought it again. It is a very nice appliance. Lots of room, stays very cold and like the reminder when kept open too long.
Cayenne5 –
Would have been nice to have had an install option. May need to buy connector to connect designated water line in kitchen to machine. Previous ice maker had a larger line that easily connected.
barrythebuyer –
great ice maker. works better than expected.
looking forward to enjoying it for years to come.
tIdblm –
Easy install had up in running in virtually no time. Performance is exactly as described.
Denise –
Replaces earlier model so we already knew we’d be happy with it! Small ice. Requires a drain.
DRPBB –
Good icemaker but did not come with water filter installed and should have.
Icemaker –
This is my second Kitchen Aid ice maker in 12 years and works as great as my first one. Small ice cubes and great in our outdoor bar.
Windsock –
I would normally give this well built ice maker higher marks. It is attractive with quality construction. I have however given this ice maker a below average rating due to the very small ice cubes it makes. The cubes are small and melt very quickly. I would not buy this machine again.
Lcod –
Great ice maker . Easy to install. Quiet compared to other ice makers
DSMDSMDSM –
Hope it lasts longer than my last ice maker which lasted only 5 years
Playitaboy –
This is a game changer when it comes to get togethers and having clean fresh ice.
WhiskeyMan –
When it works it makes ice well. Handle was loose. Had someone out to fix it. It came loose again so BB replaced the unit. New unit stopped working after a month. (Drain pump failed rendering the unit and in operable). Spent $30k on one order and has every installation problem you could imagine with Best Buy. Logistically they have ZERO idea what they are doing.
Gibson –
So Far so good. Been in a month so time will tell.
Gooddeal –
Appliance is working fine.
The process of buying, delivering and installation went very smooth.
noiceman –
It broke after a year and 7 days. Seven days after manufacture’s warranty expired. Having 25 lbs of ice on had is great, but the machine melts and refreezes the ice daily. Regardless if its full or not. A total wast of power. So you have to remember to turn it off. It should be automat like a refrigerator.
Ricky –
Works well. Makes plenty of ice and they are small pieces of ice which I love
Gaga –
So far so good. This was replacing the model previous to this one that had several mechanical, computer, electrical issues.
Mark –
This is a well built icemaker. The door hinges are very stout. It makes good quality ice.
The KitchenAid packaging is good and the unit arrived without any damage. We had this shipped directly to a Best Buy store instead of the house.
I recommend discarding the factory brass fitting on the water inlet line and installing a new one, it does not seal well. Make sure you follow the well written installation instructions.
This unit is expensive, over $1000 more than the last icemaker we had.
Wendy –
This ice maker has already broken down. I had to call Best Buy to get a repair which was an ordeal, Terrible serve on a very expensive ice maker that is only a few months old.
I purchased a $100 Magic Chef that is worth every penny. It makes great ice and is saving us while we wait for Best Buy to either replace or repair our $2600 one.
ICEMAKER –
Great Icemaker, makes great ice and we love it. Would highly recommend this Icemaker.
Danny –
Love this ice machine very quiet and makes lots of ice for our parties. the ice size was important to us and it is a perfect size for all our drinks about 1/2 inch square. With this ice maker you will never use the ice in your freezer. Worth the money especially in these days of staying home more
RissyEM –
Love the sleeker look of this newer model, including the modern handle. Blends perfectly in our gourmet kitchen. When all other suppliers said it would be months until they had this model in, Best Buy was able to deliver before our family opened its pool!
Sac23 –
Great ice machine does the job for small get togethers
LGCombo –
Just what I wanted. This item makes great ice that never gets stale. Expensive, but worth it. This is the perfect item to complete a home bar.
KJAtlanta –
Works great. Like the included drain pump. Does make noises during operations, not too bad but not whisper quiet. Great addition to our basement remodel.
PegAWalk –
The ice taste so good that I’m drinking more water. I really like my new ice machine.
RobertM –
Love this icemaker. We’ve had several over the years and always go with KitchenAid
JoyS –
Love the ice shape and it looks great in our bar. I do wish the hole to scoop out the ice was larger.
XXXX –
Nice combination of small ice cubrs with a low noise kevel.
AHarris –
We love it! It is always full of ice and ready when we need it. It does make some noise we had to get use to but totally with it!
DavidS –
Pump went out after 3 weeks. This also caused a leak in the drain tube which was secured by a small tube clamp that was also stripped. Glad it was under warranty.
AndrewS –
Something all kitchens or bars should have! Nice clear ice.
But just know it needs to be cleaned often and filter changed also often so as not to ruin the pump.
VincentD –
After owning 2 sub zero under cabinet ice makers plagued with repairs and with the first replaced by corporate sub zero for being a lemon (BTW – they have amazing customer service) this Kitchen Aid is producing a boat load of small ice cubes that are more enjoyable within drinks. Easy to install considering the Best Buy guys just left in in the box in our kitchen. Would have been nice to know that up front.
DoNotBuy –
really noisy. im not happy with this purchase at all. im thinking about purchasing a noise reduction blanket/insulation to cover the unit so that it dampens the noise.

So the way this unit works requires some explanation. In the top of the unit, there is a cold plate that it passes water over. Eventually that water freezes, with the most pure water freezing earlier than impure water, so you end up with a mostly clear sheet of frozen ice. When that sheet reaches an appropriate weight, it slides off this cold plate onto a grid of heated wires. As it melts through the wire mesh, small square ice cubes fall into the bin.
This is much quieter than semi-commercial units that typically spray water into vertical molds where a heat cycle then causes the large cubes to drop out into the bin.
The downside to this unit is the whole water ramp, wire mesh, etc. are tucked away in an inaccessible part of the unit that is impossible to reach. You have to disassemble the entire unit to get at this area to clean it. And yes, you should clean it, because even with filtered or RO water, you’ll eventually get both scale and mold. I discovered this on mine way down the line and it was a nightmare to clean. It’s also impossible to keep clean unless you remove it and take the whole thing apart a few times per year.

Reviews indicating noisy operation are accurate, but ice is of good quality. Temperature seems a bit warm compared to ice from typical refrigerator/freezer combo, but do like the clear appearance. Ran for about a week before finding a large puddle of water under unit. Control panel was unresponsive. Went to check breaker and unit turned back on without resetting breaker. Second puddle a few days later. Opening door seemed to wake up the unit during incident #2. Will update review with assessment of service experience.

Purchased this to replace my ice maker from Marvel. This is super quiet and produces clear cubes. The only noise is actually ice cubes dropping and water running. My 7 year old Marvel ice maker made such a loud noise and I am super happy with this.
WayneS –
This icemaker quit working after only 42 days!!
No power.
Gjamer –
Your Right Hand does not communicate with your left! I have never seen a store that large to screw up a pick up before. THIS SECOND KITCHENAID ICE MAKER IS TERRIBLE! THIS IS THE 2ND ONE WITHIN A FEW MONTHS-DON’T WORK AT STARTUP/ STOPPED WORKING AT TWO WEEKS==DON’T PURCHASE PRODUCT.
Unknown –
The build quality is better than one bough 5 years ago. The door hinge particularly is more sturdy.
TVTTMP –
Would not recommend. Ordered and doesn’t make ice. What a waste and hassle to even get any help.
JenniferB –
I love this ice maker it has a sellf clean button.
