This has the Harmon Kardon sound signature inbedded in it and I can tell. The JBL branding is there and I could see it’s signature styling as well. The combo is a winner in my book and that translates well in the sound department too! I have other external speakers and as for portability, this is ranks top, but for sound it just doesn’t reach perfection for me, just yet. I am not sure if a software or firmware update will improve it, but for now, it’s a very good portable speaker. This can use both Alexa and Google assistants at the same time, which is cool on it’s own. The overall look and finish is pretty high quality except for the top buttons, which doesn’t match the design feel of the rest of the speaker at all in my opinion, but that is a minor gripe. This is a speaker that is primarily to be used as a wifi streaming speaker, however, you can connect your devices via bluetooth and stream that way as well. The battery is supposed to last about 8 hours, but I think it is a bit less depending on how loud and what type of media is. I have to say, if you are playing something on the speaker, you can tweak the base and tremble to how you want it to sound on the fly. Normally I would use the app, which is a weak point of this speaker, in my opnion. Yes it has a EQ, but it’s pretty bland and I prefer using the bass and tremble knobs on the speaker to further fine tune to my personal preference, but also depending on the type of music I am playing. The handle is one of the main reasons for me choosing this over the larger brother. I wanted the portablity in this instance. I am sure I will use it because it just looks cool, but I have other speakers that sound a bit better, but I am not saying this is a bad speaker or even weak. I have a specific profile I like to hear and off the bat I have to really tune in what I want, and when I did, it is almost there, but not fully, if that makes any sense. Most people wouldn’t care, and most of the time, I probably will not either because this will most likely be used as a background music playing like at a holiday or birthday or private gathering, which I think this is meant for.

The JBL Authentics 300 portable smart speaker is something you will want to get if you want a loud, clear, and punchy speaker that has a style that is very unique in a market full of Wi-Fi/Bluetooth speakers. Just on the looks along, it screams classy retro with the wrapped leather sides and handle, retro looking grill, large volume/treble/bass knobs which add to the old school look. Picking up the speaker by the handle and you realize that this is no toy. A nice healthy weight to the package that will prevent the speaker from bouncing around when you are blaring the speaker. Bring this speaker outdoors and you will have no problem letting the neighborhood know what your musical tastes are.
The most important part of a speaker is sound quality, and the JBL Acoustics 300 does not disappoint. Scroll through your Spotify playlists of rock, hip hop, rap, country, EDM and this speaker reproduces a loud projection with clarity. This this speaker has a down firing passive speaker and produces incredible bass if it is position correctly. If you suspend the speaker in the air, there is not much bass. Position the speaker on a hard floor in the corner of a few walls and be prepared to turn the bass down. All this while still maintaining accurate highs and lows. Again, everything about this speaker denotes premium feel and sound.
The JBL Authentics 300 comes built in with both Google Home and Amazon Alexa. So, if your music service works with either Google Home or Amazon Alexa, you can just ask it to start playing because it is Wi-Fi connected. The JBL One app allows you to ensure the firmware is up to date and gives you more fine tuning of the different settings of the speaker such as EQ.
Again, the two main reasons why you would get this speaker, sound and aesthetics, the JBL Authentics 300 does extremely well in a very portable package. Leave it plugged in or unplug it and bring it with you anywhere you want a conversation starter and amazing sound quality. It has been a week of usage and there are no signs of the battery dying early.

The Authentics 300 Smart Home Speaker has a very handsome retro look. The unit has a very solid hefty feel to it. The build quality is outstanding, and the materials feel high quality. Lots of attention to detail from textured rugged cloth speaker grill down to the stitching on the handle cover.
The setup was rather easy after realizing I had to turn on power after plugging in. The quick start guide directs you to download the JBL One app for setup. Connected to my home Wi-Fi in a few easy steps on the app.
There is a musical tone played when turning the unit on or off. My first thought was that it would be annoying, but I later decided that it was handy when turning the unit on to know when it was fully online and ready for use.
The controls are smooth and have high quality tactile feel with perfect amount of resistance. I am not
a fan of the overloaded play button (2 clicks for track skip and 3 for reverse). In my opinion they could have done without the Moment (favorite) button in lieu of actual forward reverse buttons. The battery indicator light gives you a visual indicator of level but unfortunately it is only shown at startup, shutdown, or when a control is pressed except when level is less than 10% when it is always on red. You can, however, check the level anytime from the app.
I was able to run the speaker all day on a single charge and can vouch for 8+ hours or run-time. The unit will also go into standby and then automatically power down if there is no activity after a certain time when on battery.
There are many different options for streaming music to the device along with a physical 3.5 mm input jack for external sources. I tested several streaming services from my Apple device and the 300 will show up as directly as a network device or via the Airplay connection. I also streamed DLNA from my Windows PC using my music library management software. You can also stream directly to the unit without a mobile device (powers the Moment button) from a few different music services configured via the App. Surprisingly, Spotify is not on the list.
The EQ in the App has Low, Mid, and High tone controls. You can control Low (Bass) and High (Treble) via knobs on the unit but only Mid from the app. When you adjust on the unit the EQ in the app also adjusts accordingly.
My only real concern, and it might be unfounded, would be that the bottom speaker is exposed. Granted there are feet that keep it ¾” off the ground and the speaker itself seems to be rubberized and sturdy I still have a fear of plopping it down somewhere and have something poke up into the speaker. Since this is intended to be a portable unit some sort of grill would have seemed to have been in order.

This speaker is great for streaming music. Nice punchy bass and it fills a room with sound. With any bluetooth device ibstill find it a little tinny sounding even when adjusting EQ. We also linked it up to the tv for movies and it sounds pretty good. The only knock is that when plugging in a wired auxiliary there is a delay by about a second. Due to that I was not able to also use this as a portable guitar amp or a PA Speaker like i was hoping.

So if you’re looking for a loud speaker this one is not it. However if you are look for nice quality sound and base for your kitchen, living room, or bedroom this is the one. I love it. Connecting it to my Vinyl Record player and it has Alexa.

I’m writing this review after literally JUST giving this speaker an initial first listen. WOW! Definitely love this thing! Clean highs and punchy bass…I went through all different genres of music on my playlist and I am highly impressed with the sound quality and overall aesthetic of it. I have soooo many different Bluetooth speakers around the house and was hesitant to buy another but I’m so glad I did! Can’t really speak to the battery life but I’m gonna assume it’s up there with the other JBL speakers I own and it’s always been sufficient. Nice work JBL!

Don’t waste your time like I did!!! Have a Marshall Emberton II which is amazing, but JBL owns the large Bluetooth speaker segment. Way better than the Marshall Kilburn II and the Middleton.

Tbh i didn’t know what ti expect. Down to the design, the textures and color, and the nearly perfect sound. This thing is everything you need for personal and room filling audio reproduction! I love the “on the fly” customization with the treble and bass knobs. I really like the aesthetics and materials used. It really is a show stopper, and when plugged in, it is a real powerhouse for filling a room with waves.

Sound is good just not $450 good. The bottom passive radiator rattles everything on the table so you have to use it on a solid surface. Looks and build are amazing. Love how you can change the bass and treble from the top. Battery life is horrible maybe 3 hours on med level.

Love, love, love. I have a few Bluetooth speakers lower priced and 1 equivalent. This one sounds WAY better than the Harman Karson Onyx 6. I really liked the onyx until I got this one. I like really loud music and this one is my favorite! The base is lovely amd the sound is so clear. It easily connect to my phone and hooked up to my google home flawlessly. The price is high but sounds fantastic. If it ever goes on sale, I will buy another one, no question. Only flaw in my opinion, I wish they would have a grate or something to protect the speaker underneath. Just need to make sure you put it on a flat surface. Love it.
