The key to getting clean clothes with his machine is to not mix loads. The dark color and white cycles can wrinkle shirts that are thrown in with jeans or towels. Using the correct cycles on this machine results in clothes getting cleaner than using the older type machines I have had in the past. Also, I find that I can use less detergent than I used with my other machines which allows for a cleaner rinse.

  2. anniewarbucks

The agitator doesn’t seem to me to agitate enough to get the job done. It doesn’t take long to go through its cycles either. I’m wondering if this is getting everything clean and am watching it carefully.

  3. hepcars

My wife was very impressed by the delivery team, they knew more about this machine than the sales team. The washer is very quiet and outcleans our old Maytag. Just purchased and received last week. The Mrs is tickled with the performance and quality. Very quiet, and complete washer. Delicate setting is missing, (available on more expensive model with other electrics too:) Great washer for the money!!

  4. Unknown

All I needed was a simple sturdy washer to replace the 15 year old GE washer that held up pretty well considering what all it did over its life span. Unfortunatly the sales person was trying to convince me that the washer warranty would be void unless I purchased new water supply hoses, gotta make that sale ya know!

  5. MrsStreff

We’ve had this for about a month and a half and I can throw in sheets and blankets and comforters or baby clothes and it clean it all really well. Its quiet and quick! we LOVE the set!

  6. Julie48

After tolerating never-clean laundry from my 6-yr-old HE washer, I finally got fed up and started researching washers that were not HE and included a full-size agitator. This washer is awesome! Inspite of other reviews that have complained about clothes coming out more wrinkled, I have had great results from this washer for two weeks. My whites are white, everything smells clean, fabrics feel good, and I haven’t noticed any excessive wrinkling. Three user-set water levels accommodate all sizes of laundry, and I LOVE hearing the water swish as it does it’s job. There aren’t a ton of wash cycles to set, but for general laundry purposes it is sufficient. I’m actually using the same settings I used on my “more fancy” HE machine — and no longer have a bunch of settings available for which I have no use!

  7. chrisken

Overall, have been happy with the washer. In general, it performs well, gets our clothes clean, and hasn’t made a huge impact on our energy bill or our water usage.

What I would like is better handling of delicates, and of course, with the top load spindle, there’s a risk of things wrapping around the agitator. Buying a couple of delicates bags helps, but it’s an extra step. Given a do over, we probably would have spent the extra money on a washer without the central agitator. Think of it this way — if the washer wrecks one item of clothing worth $50+ you’ve paid for a lot of the difference.

  8. Shakan

I am very pleased with this washer. The washer is very good for the price.

  9. TnT2000

it might look just simple, but he gets the clothes clean.

  10. SassyD

We aren’t fancy schmancy folks, so we ordered a simple washer/dryer set…gotta say we love this pair. We just moved laundry room to main living floor and tucked them in a closet in the TV room. Quiet? You bet! And we haven’t even reinstalled the bifold doors yet! And we washed a Queen size comforter with no hassles re: the agitator.
And our clothes come out nice and clean.
We’re happy we didn’t need to spend an arm & a leg to get our laundry done efficiently.

  11. pjazz

Bought this washer about a month ago, has worked very well since. It is very quiet compared with my old washer that was 15 years old. I like this washer because I can set the water level (3 settings) and there is no locking mechanism on the lid like on some of the washer that I looked at. Also, it has a SS tub which I like. Overall a good basic top loading washer.

  12. TrudySprings

I couldn’t be happier with my new washer. I can’t believe how quiet it is, the stainless steel tub is huge. And it removed stains from a couple of pieces of clothing in the 1st wash that had been washed in my old machine several times. I know it sounds crazy but I’m excited to do the laundry now. Love it!!

  13. ssujith

good oneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I like this product. good performance

  14. Momosmojo

The reason I purchased this machine was because it fit my families budget, and it seemed to get good reviews. The first time I used the machine, my clothes came out cleaner than with my old one. On my waterbill for the month, my water usage has went down (with a 1.5 year old, thats awesome!) The capacity sizes are amazing! Small, Large and Super– fits all my needs! I even can wash my queen comforter with no problem! I love this machine! The machine runs pretty quiet. The only problem I have with her, is getting used to the new sounds she makes! (Every odd noise I hear, I think its a killer in my house…) Overall, I love my new GE set. Its definetly a great buy for a growing, budget concious family.

  15. texasdixies

I bought this washer about a month ago after my previous one broke down on me after just a year .I got a good deal on it from Best Buy and It was exactly what I was looking for. This washer does a great job of washing, and spins the clothes very well that it doesn’t take long to dry.I didn’t realize until after using this washer for awhile how much my previous washer sucked at doing laundry.I am very happy with my purchase and have no regrets.

  16. PastorHarry

no inspirational words; simply a great washer. It does the job very well, be it a small job or a big one..I would describe it as the “silent performer” due to its quiet operaation…If you’re still shopping around shop no more, this is what you’ve been looking for….Good luck!

  17. BeckyB123

Stick to the casual setting. Any other setting agitates to much and you can hardly use any soap. Your clothes come out soggy or sudsy on any other setting unless you use about a 1/4 of your detergant.

  18. sherry61

I gave up a $1000.00 , supposedly top-of-the-line washer to buy this. This machine is not run by a computer, it’s run by me. It doesn’t lock me out, the clothes are covered with water, the agitator is gentle, it’s quiet, it doesn’t go off balance every other load, and it gets my clothes extremely clean. If I want it to fill with water, so I can soak my knits, it does. The other machine attempted to clean my clothes in a puddle of water. It locked me out, when it was done I spent 10 minutes untangling the knotted up clothes. The electronics went bad and I spent a fortune having repaired. I Love My new GE!

  19. watermanranch

Cleans good very quiet and dries good if you follow the instructions. This is a very good machine at a decent price.

  20. hispanic

This washer is so quite that i thought it did not work. but it works perfect me and my wife love it.

  21. BALTOGAL

Best Buy replaced my recent purchase of an Inglis washer/dryer combo with this GE washer/dryer combo (I’d been unhappy with the Inglis set) What a difference a couple hundred dollars makes! The washer is quiet, cleans the clothes and has a very imprssive spin dry that sounds like a jet engine plane landing (only very quietly!) I’m really pleased with this purchase – the dryer is very nice too!

  22. Vadertime

I’ve owned numerous GE appliances before, so I knew what I was buying when I got this washer. We got this the day before TG 2011, after our el-cheapo Fridgidaire took a dump 10 days earlier. Rather than fix it, I decided to get this washer, which is a middle of the line, solid performer. So far, into the the new year (2012), we’ve had no issues and we’ve been using pretty regularly and even washing our comforters and heavy blankets. Washing the comforter may have broken the old washer. I really like the stainless steel wash tub. Once the old dryer croaks, also an el-cheapo Fridgidaire, I’m going to get the matching GE dryer.

  23. SatisfiedWasherUser

I had a non agitator washer before this purchase and I was not happy with the balance on the washer. I was reluctant to go back to a traditional agitator washer without all the bells and whistles but this particular model of GE washer has exceeded my expectations. I love how much I can wash at one time without the machine going off balance and the clothes still come out clean.

  24. panchyprsss

I purchased this washer just a few days ago. I have used it few times now and while it is true is very quiet, this is because it really doesn’t agitate much, but ‘swishes’ the loads. The real problem is the clean/rinse mode: after it fills water again,it only ‘agitates’ for a mere TEN SECONDS before it starts draining again and begins the last spin. I have to be there when it finishes filling water for the rinse cycle in order to stop it and move the knob back to the start cycle so it can at least rinses properly. I never had this problem with any of my previous washing machines. I’m very disapointed.

  25. metairieguy

We’ve had the washer for about two months and it does a good job of cleaning clothes.

  26. rsrandr

Some say this machine is “going backward” in technology, but this washer is like a breath of fresh air to me. I wanted something simple without all the gadgets that would get my clothes clean…the first time. I found it in this washer. It is quiet, easy to operate and works well. It’s large capacity is great, it washes 6 – 8 pairs of adult size jeans with no problem. I especially like the fact that I can set the water level, the machine doesn’t do it for me, and I can open the lid while it’s filling with water and add more clothes. And did I mention it gets the clothes clean…the first time? (My 3 year old energy efficient washer didn’t ). My only complaint would be it doesn’t rinse out the detergent as well as I would like, but I have mostly solved the problem by using less detergent than the detergent box/bottle says to and using a detergent designed for HE machines. I also use the extra clean rinse. It spins out the clothes well, and they dry in a timely fashion in my dryer. I would highly recommend this machine!

  27. gewasher

Beware of exactly what features you are purchasing in a washer. This unit does not have a final rinse, it has a soak cycle in which the clothes merely sit in the water for a few minutes prior to a final drain and spin. On the super load setting the drum only fills to about three quarters of the drum. I have had the trans and motor replaced after about 4 mos. The washer is noisy and construction is not as they used to make.
I am hoping the trans and motor go again so I can claim as a lemon and get credit for another ( which will be another brand ). Definately get an extended warranty, you will be glad you did!

  28. vada61

I haven’t had a GE before so this was new for me to try. I’m happy with the performance. My clothes get clean, its very quite..I had to check to see if it was even running the first time I used it. The only downfall I have is that I like to fill the machine and add my clothes and I would leave the lid open so they could sit and soak a little bit. You can’t do that with this machine…it runs with the lid open. All in all I am happy with it.

  29. Lew05

Even though is machine is designed to be quiter, it REALLY GOT ON MY NERVES. Great for Holloween background sound effects. Sounds exactly like the wicked with from the Wizard of Oz. High piching screeching “reh…reh…reh…reh…reh” sounds throughout the wash cycles. Then the .rinse cycle sounds like ocean waves splashings on a moonlit night “spash…splash….splash….splash” on against a seawall. One week of this is ALL I COULD STAND and sent it back and exchanged it for a Whilpool 3.4 washinging machine. Best thing I ever did. The rinse cycle agitation only lasts one minute and splashes the water the rest of the whole rinse cycle. Splashing the clothes didn’t get all the all the laundry detergent washed out of my clothes. All my clothes smelled like laundry detergent poured out of the bottle. This maschine does save water.

This product is very quiet and cleans the clothes very good. Would recommend this product to anyone.

We bought this washer sight unseen online 2 months ago. Delivery from Best Buy was a snap, we selected a date offered by the calender during check out. The guys showed up on time, removed the old washer and installed the new, got it hooked up and made sure it was working. Purchase and delivery experience gets an A+ from us.

The washer is so quiet it surprised us. We kept having to check to see if it was actually working. It has full basic controls for the type of laundry a normal household needs. Full choice of cycles, extra rinse, soak before wash, full temp range selection, etcetera. It has a large capacity, our most challenging item is a big heavy queen size winter quilt that gets washed a couple times a year and it handled that with no problem. Whites are also coming out very clean and the soak cycle lets you soak in bleach for a bit if you need for napkins and that sort of thing.

Our only complaint is that you can’t open the hatch while the washer is filling, so you can’t rinse out your soap or bleach cup. Also, the hot water supply hose went bad on it about a month and a half into it being used. Fortunately I saw it bulging and I had one and quickly replaced it before it actually broke.

We’re very pleased with this purchase, especially with all the bad things we’ve read about front loading machines not getting whites cleaned and breaking down. We’ll see how long it lasts but right now we consider this purchase…

I had a GE brand that gave what I thought was good service for the past 5 years until I purchased this. What a difference! I can was a weeks worth of laundry in just two loads. The clothes come out cleaner and I use a lot less detergent than the old GE’s took. Plenty of room to put in a bunch of towels or heavy loads of jeans. I’ve even washed the shower carpets in them and they come out better than ever! Definitely worth the money and the effort. I almost enjoy doing laundry now!

  33. Shaker

Great item. Very quiet and moves through the wash cycle fast. I can see why this washer gets such high reviews. Definitely a good buy.

  34. MJOrlando

I purchased this washer November 2010. Normal home usage for two – three people. First, the noise reduction advertised for this machine does not keep the machine quiet; I’ve had people tell me the washer was quite noisy, even after making sure the machine was level and installed properly. February 2012, the transmission started slipping, so that the machine will not complete a spin cycle. $200 replacement part, plus labor. I guess I will be buying a new washer.

  35. my2havs

Bought this on sale and am very pleased so far. I read a LOT of reviews about this particular washer because of the low price and don’t understand why there are so many negative ones. It is much quieter than my old one, a 15 yr old GE, and I am able to open the lid with no problem if I want to add clothes or check on the water level. The rinse cycle agitates for almost 3 minutes, not 10 seconds and seems to be fine for getting the soap out. I wish it had a setting for an automatic additional rinse because I’m used to that but I knew that when I purchased it. The tub is huge and the super setting for water level is adequate. If there’s problems down the road, I’ll write another review!

  36. adro

This washer (delivered on Halloween) seemed satisfactory for the price until I started noticed holes in Tshirts, socks, pajamas and towels shredded with pulls. I made sure that loads were small, that I used the gentlest “casuals” setting for everything. First repair person told me to deal with consumer Relations, second one told me a rough spot on the agitator could be the problem. GE sent me 2 other agitators, each worse than the original. 3rd service call scheduled today which I tried to cancel due to unsatisactory replacement parts but GE said to let the repair person determine whether they are satisfactory. Will update.

  37. Muffinmom

I bought this washer to replace my 10 year old whirlpool that had every right to kick the bucket. I did my research, this had pretty good reviews, and was a reasonable price. I had it 4 days before heading back to Best Buy to pick a new front loader,,, First off, how is Clean Rinse an option to turn on or off? I thought it was an extra rinse, so to save water I left it off. The clothes were still sudsy and full of water despite the rinse/soak and drain/spin cycle. I had to turn on the clean rinse and turn it back to do the previously said cycles all over. If that was the only issue I could deal with it. But no matter what size load I did , I had to run the drain/spin cycle everytime. Shame on you GE!!! It should have came with an old fashion wringer!!

  38. martinpaws

I use this machine on a daily basis and it does wonderful! I have never had any problems with it and it is very easy to use. Always does a good job cleaning and I am very pleased :). This size is perfect!

  39. ShaWill

I purchased this washer to replace my Kenmore that i had for 17 years and I really do have to say that i’m very happy with it…It runs so quite that i have to check to make sure that it is on .

  40. washingwoman

Reports that this washer ties clothes in knots were confirmed when I first used it and I regretted discarding my 30-year old Maytag. However, if you don’t fill it more than two-thirds full for a “Super” size setting, the problem goes away. It is still a bit hard on delicates, but if you put them in first so they stay at the bottom, it seems a bit better. I plan to get a mesh bag to put them in while washing to see if this helps. I miss having a “delicate” cycle. I always use the “casual” setting and don’t use the “clean rinse” (which seems to be a fast spin) option. It does a good job of getting clothes clean in cold water. I can’t tell the difference between the “whites” and “dark colors” settings.

  41. LaKeisha

I love this washer. It is almost so silent that you have to open to check and make sure its working. .

  42. Gryffon

So far so good. Much quieter than our last machine. Larger capacity also means fewer loads. Handles our throw rugs without dancing all the way across the basement.

  43. joncl

We were a bit afraid on complaints regarding newer high efficiency models and wanted to go with older, proven technology. This left us purchasing what was one of the least expensive washers on the market today, but I’m not sure why we would want to spend more. This machine is quiet and efficient. Good sized tub and it does everything we could ask of it. Very happy with this purchase.

  44. HappyBeagleMom

After thinking about upgrading to a front loader and reading lots of customer reviews and Consumer Reports reviews and Good Housekeeping reviews in the end we decided to go for the “old fashioned” washing machine. We are so glad that we did! The price was excellent and the washer agitates so quietly I wasn’t even sure that it was working. The clothes come out clean and spun out so well that the drying time is quicker. I recommend this washing machine for sure!

  45. Unknown

I chose this washer because it top loads and has bleach & fabric sofner dispensers. The lid doesn’t lock like I’ve read on other reviews. It’s very quiet & the tub is HUGE! Only drawback is that there isn’t a delicate cycle. I financed the washer plus a 5-year extended warranty interest free for 18 months. Free delivery & haul off. Well worth it!!!

  46. ScottinLA1

I purchased it about one month ago to replace a fancy $1,100 Maytag Neptune TL washer that broke down after only 6 years. It appears this one is better because it is washing clother better than my previous high-efficiency washer. It fits in a small space but still has the capacity to handle large loads. It’s also very quiet and has simple, logical controls. As long as it keeps working, I think I’ve found a good one.

  47. Kmacm

Quietest appliance I own! The cycles are adequate for my needs. The only problem I experienced is that the hose that comes with the machine is cheap plastic and does not have a 90 degree bend to hold it on to sink. Had to purchase one.

  48. tnresident

This washer is wonderful!!! I just replaced an expensive front loader with this washer and could not be happier!! No more smelly washer. You can add clothes anytime (the lid does not lock). It has an agitator and automatic fabric softener dispenser. You can also soak a load of laundry if you want. It is very quiet and cleans clothes well. Another great thing about this washer is the price. Less than $400!!

  49. smkeener47

When I went looking for a washer, I just wanted a washer that would get clothes clean. So, this left out front load and HE washers. This is apparently one of the last standard top load washers on the planet and thankfully it works very well. I was taken aback at first by its quiet operation (didn’t think it was running) but am now used to it and am very pleased with it.

  50. copprtop99

It does what it says it does, does not have a noisy agitator
