Sofi –
We have a limited amount of space for our washer and dryer. This washer is a good fit, works well, has plenty of options, and looks great too.

The most important piece of information concerning this washing machine was misquoted, by the vendor specifications, at the store where I bought this unit. A 2.1 cubic foot washer is the best compact available, and of course is unavailable so, given no other option for something that could fill enough to properly wash a Queen comforter, I purchased the new, GE 2.8 cubit Foot top loading washing machine, thinking it was the next innovation. I assumed, based on specs, that the washer was slightly taller, with a slightly deeper basket, resulting in a 2.8 instead of a 2.1 cubic foot load capacity, as widening the machine would be madness.
Given that the width of door frames in the average bathroom in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s built apartments, condos and houses was between 24 and 28 inches with the 24 inch door size in very common use, more common than the other two options, it would make no sense to produce a compact or portable machine that had a width precluding use. This unit is 24 inches by 24. 5 inches, with no wiggle room. Even with the door to our bathrooms off their hinges, this machine would never fit in any of them, so back in the box and back to the store this went.
The specifications have been updated, where I purchased this, again, 24 x 24.5, and hopefully the same thing won’t happen to anyone else, however, for anyone looking at this machine, please be advised that it is too large to fit through any bathroom door in our house, built in the 1970s and, after measuring at a friend’s 1960s home we found their doors also measured exactly 24 inches, with about 23.3 between the door frame stops on either side.
Given that a 23 inch machine is the maximum that can fit through what was, for decades, the standard bathroom door size, this machine is simply not workable unless you are using it in a large, standard size washing machine slot in a garage or laundry closet and, if you can fit a 24 inch machine with a low 2.8 cubic foot capacity, you can probably fit a standard 27 inch machine, why bother with a machine that washes so much less and doesn’t fill enough to wash a large comforter? It just makes no sense.
I can’t recommend this for anyone seeking a compact washer, as a 23 inch width is about as wide as it could be in order to be considered compact, for use in a bathroom with a sink hookup. I also don’t recommend this for anyone seeking a washing machine who can accommodate a larger size washer, such as a 27 inch, because the capacity on the 27 inch GE washer far exceeds this and that washer comes with a functioning Deep Fill button, as of 2019. With any luck, someone will design a 2.5 or even a 2.8 cubic foot washer that utilizes a slightly taller tub in a thinner housing of 22 to a maximum of 23 inches, so that I can finally replace my dead Haier 2.1, which was so useful for so many years.
I hope this helps you in your search.

Electronics dont work the way I need. Cant look inside without cycle emptying and staring over. Doesn’t clean good. Hard to set for what I need. Set one button an the other settings move to what you dont want. Very frustrated. It leaks. You cant start it an forget it. Very noisy. I really thought this was going to be a good machine.

Our choices were limited because the space was limited and most washers on the market are wider than our space allowed. Down side was the price was a lot more than washers with nearly twice the capacity.

I have very limited space for my washer and dryer. It compares to a closet. Finding something so small required a custom order. It is very small on the outside, but has amazing space internally. I love the fact that there is NO agitator to have clothes get hung up on. The installer said it runs on magnets. I have yet to research that, but he works for a plumbing business and was super impressed. I love it and am very happy with Best Buy for finding it for me!

Love it ! Better than my old frontloader which was about 4.3 cubic feet. This ge top loader is just a little smaller. Fits nice size loads of laundry. Don’t let the 2.8 size fool you! Can get a lot of clothes in this little machine. Very happy with it.

As someone with a small laundry room this machine is a great fit. It may be smaller in dimension but has a good amount of capacity. The design of the lid is ideal for laundry rooms or spaces that have over head cabinets. Glad that at least one name brand makes this machine and that Best Buy has it available.

This machine has large drum for such a small washer. It has as many features as washer washers twice its size. I am amazed at how well it cleans …I think it does a better job then the commercial machines we used at the laundry mat.

I’ve had this machine for over a mouth and I’m very pleased.
It fits in a small closet in my apt. that has a machine hook up.
The tub size was surprisingly big for such a small machine.
Overall I’m very pleased that I selected this machine.
Disappointed –
I dislike this machine since my machine is not filling up enough water. Also some features don’t seem to be working. I had no choice since my enclosed space could not fit the standard machines which are around 27 inches. I miss my old Maytag
Drain –
I am in the process of installing.
The drain sticks straight out the back, which means you need a drain house with a 90 at the end if it is going to be up against the wall. The supplied drain house does not have this.
Also the drain hose needs a u fitting at the end, to go down into the wall drain, which it does not have.
This makes it necessary to find another drain hose that will fit and do the job, which I am now trying to do.
Will update when I have it installed and have used it.

Big complaint is it ties the clothes, sheets into a ball. With no agitator I would think it would be gentler on clothes but I had to untie the sheets and put on another spin cycle because they were still soaked. Shirts get twisted into each other. Only bought it because it replaced 15yr old same model in a small space.
GEWASHER –
Very pleased with this top load compact washer. It has such a large tub, you wouldn’t think it was a compact machine.
BeachGirl –
Enjoying the new washer though still having to get used to the small amount of water allowed for a load of wash.

Could only give it 1 star only bc it didn’t fit through my doorway

It is a great machine. It works quietly and well. It’s appearance is pleasing to the eye.
The delivery crew was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Great customer service!

I love my washer the only thing is that I have an apartment and it hangs out the closet door, other than that it’s perfect. Please read before purchasing.

very good machine for it size good for my kid condo

Due to our limited space available we had limited options concerning washers. This washer fit into our space perfectly, and has the capability of handling the big loads of any other washer. Dont be deceived by the smallish exterior….the barrell inside is massive enough to handle your king size comforter.

We were challenged by the small space available but this little GE washer fits right in. Handy folding top is a bonus for small spaces.
Wonderful –
This was a gift for our son. He lives in an older town home. The appliances had to be a specific size to fit down the basement steps. This fit!
ReneeG –
The best washer since my old one this washes everything clean and I like how it fills the water level according to the amount of clothes you put in
Happy –
Sturdy and bigger than expected. I love it, its quiet and washes everything with no issues.
EvelynH –
The washer was delivered four weeks ago without all the working pieces. Three Saturdays wasted. Over $100 spend at the laundry mat.
MaryC –
This machine washes well but is very noisy. It makes a buzzing noise during the spin cycle. Beware if you have it inside your home. Not quiet at all.
SkyMD –
This washer is compact but fits the same size load as my previous washer, which was inches wider and deeper. It automatically senses the amount of clothes inside, so the water level is appropriate with nothing wasted. It cleans effectively and is simple to use. However, the man who delivered the washer and installed it was extremely rude, to point of snapping angrily at me and yelling, when he was the one who made mistakes with the water valves. I recommend the washer but not buying it from Best Buy.
EllenM –
Love the size; it works well; like the way the lid can be folded up, also the compartment for the soap and softener.
sGor –
Looks better in real! It gets the job done and thats all that matters.
MasayoQ –
Washes fine but even with loading everything around the sides to make your own invisible agitator, the agitation still might send a large item to the middle. A front loader would be better. It is hard to get the detergent and softener compartment all the way out and back in.
MelindaF –
I can’t believe I’ve had this washer for almost a year. I really love mines. This apartment size washer I give it 5 stars.
Katie –
I spent so much time finding the right size for a small space and this fits so well. However, I have had constant issues with it. No matter the load size the balance seems to be thrown off. I have a water valve issue now. It’s very slow to size up a load and actually start.

Washing machines, like BigMacs have gotten bigger. This was one of a few machines that fit in our laundry room. The tub, without agitator, holds a surprising amount of clothing. Two things: It is louder than our previous machine ( Fisher/Paykel) and there is no way to change spin speed.
