Many scanners come and go in our office but this one is here for good. The ES-500W II is the best scanner our office has seen to date. Super easy to set up and begin use. Plug in, download the software and connect and the scanning begins. My favorite features of this scanner are the front/back page scan, super fast scan with crisp, clean pages and truly wireless technology that does not lose connection or effect the quality. We rely heavily on a quality scanner to create electronic documents for archiving. We have used the scanner with various sizes of paper, receipts, photo’s and other documents and never have had a jam. We love that this item can be easily taken to different offices and used with the app to control the functions of the scanner. A truly quality product that provides the best scan. First of all, this is a speedy little scanner, and once you use one of these, you may never go back to the old, painfully slow snail-scan. With the simultaneous front and back scanning, it cuts even that down to half the time.
Unboxing and setup was easy peasy. At least until I got to the install. Long story short (see longer version below*), I ended up having to call Epson support. The tech I spoke with had the solution. He was very good – albeit a bit testy, I didn’t need him to be warm and fuzzy and thank me every 15 seconds (as is often the case), but he seemed a little angry at me for disturbing his day. However, after less than a 10 minute call, I had both computers recognizing the device, as well as my android phone. He got the job done, and I was off and running.
Next, I began by scanning a pile of randomly-sized documents. Lots of 8.5×11 medical receipts, insurance docs, half-page recipes, etc. Even though the pile was not all the same size, the scanner processed them all just fine. Options for saving format were bmp, jpg, png, pdf, tiff or multi-tiff. Basically, anything you would need, and lots of settings for each option. The sheet feeder is very forgiving, and handled it all gracefully.
I then moved on to photos, again a variety of shapes and sizes and styles. Even the vintage prints from the 60s that had the frilly edges. The scanning options list resolution from 75 up to 1200 dpi, however 600 dpi seemed sufficient for regular sized photos, and it did an excellent job. There is an option under “image type” for “auto” which makes it possible to choose between color/grayscale, or color/black and white. Brilliant! I’m very impressed with the results, too. I have always assumed that flatbed scanners were superior for photos, but now I doubt that, and will probably be doing some side-by-side tests. I have thousands of photos and this little puppy will be a great time-saver for getting them all stored and backed up. There are settings galore for everything from image settings to remove punch holes, OCR for receipt scanning, etc, even removing background, for making transparent png files.
** Long(er) story: I have 2 different (Windows) computers – neither of which recognized the scanner when I plugged it into the usb 3.0 port. The software was very glitchy and even connecting it via wi-fi was a chore. When I finally called Epson tech support for some help, there were 2 problems: 1) because I already have a number of Epson products on my network, the new scanner did not play well with others and I had to manually remove them before it would connect to the 500W II (and will have to re-install them manually – fingers crossed), and 2) there was something that was supposed to be installed with the software that didn’t get put into the correct folder during the install. The tech had me install a tool that I downloaded from the Epson website, which apparently did not work as expected – even the second time around. For others that have the same problem, do not give up. The app you want is es2launcher.exe (Epson Scan 2), that’s where the magic is. I do love Epson products, but I have to say their software is often not up to par with the hardware. Other than these one-time issues, I DO recommend the scanner and feel it is a very good value.

I scan a lot of music, and this scanner does a great job running through multiple pages of sheet music with ease. The quality is also above average, compared to my previous scanner. Documents can be saved as PDFs, which is my preferred format for sending scans to others. It also handles multiple pages sizes well, even in a single scan. One feature that I didn’t even know I needed is the auto duplexing — it will scan both sides of a page, without having to reload. I didn’t realize how often I did this, until the Epson started taking care of it for me. Photos also scan quite well, with good color reproduction. It’s not designed as a full-time photo scanner though, so keep that in mind. Get a purpose-built photo scanner if that’s your main use. I do have certain circumstances where I need to scan multiple photos into one scan, so my trusty flatbed scanner will be sticking around for that, as well as for any bound books or thick items I need to scan.
Setup took a little longer than I thought it should. I had to re-start the install process a couple of times. My WiFi is also fairly locked down, with separate vlans for IoT and work, so there was a bit of tweaking needed to get the printer to talk with my network correctly.
Overall, this is a decent scanner for the price, although you may need to keep you flatbed scanner around for certain use cases.

I recently got the Epson WorkForce ES-500W II to try out. I was a little worried about the wireless feature but I ended up surprised with how well it worked for me despite being 2 rooms away. I was also very happy to use my Android phone to scan documents. The Android app was simple and easy to work with. Epson outdid themselves by making this scanner mobile phone friendly. “This is a review for the Epson ES-500WII Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.”

I tried out the Epson WorkForce ES-500W II as part of a beta test. I really didn’t expect much until I read what the scanner could do. I was ecstatic that I could perform mobile scanning from my phone. This was extremely helpful when I am not at my desk. The photos and documents I scanned both from the actual scanner and from my Note 10 were crystal clear and quickly uploaded. I even scanned some old WWII aerial photos and the color or lack of. You couldn’t tell it was scanned. “This is a review for the Epson ES-500WII Document Scanner that I received free of charge to do a beta test and review.”

This scanner is great! It produces high-quality scans of different types – I’ve used it for regular documents, greeting cards, photographs, and even to back up IDs & credit cards. There’s a document feeder and a tray to catch the scanned items, both of them fold/slide away when not in use.
The software is easy to use and has menus to dig further into the settings to do advanced customization. It can be used wired (with supplied USB-A cable) or wirelessly. I set up the wireless scanning with my phone & my MacBook – both were easy and straightforward. Scanning wirelessly is super-convenient, as it allowed me to keep the scanner on the other side of the room from my computer where I have more space for it. The scanning/transferring speed didn’t seem any slower on my network than when it was plugged in directly.
All in all, it’s a great scanner – very fast, high quality, small footprint. Perfect for my home use-case.

There is scanners and then there is a amazing scanners. This scanner is definitely the latter. At about 8 pounds this scanner packs an awesome punch. Through Covid I am needing to work a lot more from home and lack scanning capabilities so had to make a trip to the library or UPS anytime I need scanning. Needless to say this isn’t the most convenient of situations, but better then being in the office. So when this came about I was super excited to give it a try. The size is great for my little makeshift desk area. Scanning is super quick at 35 pages per minute (holding 50 pages), and great quality scans (for an affordable scanner option of its size) and it is wireless.
Setup was super simple and easily was compatible it took me about 5 min to fully setup. The duplex scanning capabilities was also a nice extra bonus. This is well worth the amount and perfect for any at home office.

The Epson workforce ES-500 Wireless deluxe desktop document scanner is the king of all scanners. Out of the box it’s easy to set up. I love the wireless capability. Now for the scanning. I have scanned all kinds of documents from work documents to greeting cards to pictures and sometimes different cards the picture quality is perfect! The ease of use takes about five minutes after reading the instructions! This will be my go to scanner for all my business and personal use!

This Epson Ds 500 W II scanner is perfect for my small office. It’s very compact allowing me to place it on my desk without it getting in the way. Setup was very easy, and I love that it is wireless allowing me to use it from any area. My favorite thing about this scanner is that I can load all of my documents in it at one time and it scans them all super fast saving me so much time and energy from scanning individually and waiting. The color quality is amazing and nothing comes out distorted when scanning. This scanner allows me to keep everything organize and scanned in as my documents come in. I am all over the place when it comes to hard paper copies of things because I can never keep track of them but this allows me stay organized and save everything important that I need for later use. It can scan up to 50 documents fast in its auto feeder. I can scan to my cloud storage and have them all organized.
I have had no misfeed issues with this scanner. Everything has worked properly, speedy and effectively. If you are scanning tons of papers, receipts, documents on a daily basis this is the scanner I recommend. Pirtable, easy to use, speedy and great quality. The WorkForce ES-500W II has simplified my home office scanning. The Intuitive Epson ScanSmart Software allows me to preview, email and upload my documents to my cloud account effortlessly. I am not an organizer and this feature along with ability to create searchable PDFs saves me a lot of frustration. The best feature is the Duplex Scan feature. It saves me time by scanning both sides of the documents in one scan. No more re-scanning the same pages. This scanner also has a 50 sheet auto document feeder which frees me from having to sort & load as with my old scanner. I love how quickly this scanner works. Time is money. The size of the scanner is perfect for a home office or small business office. It occupies very little space and has a modern design. For the simplicity of software, the scanner features and the design, I rate it an A+. Love Epson scanners. I’ve had the same one for a few years now and it has never failed me so I bought my mom the ES-500W II and she loves it. She can’t use the WiFi on it at her job though because of the IT’s security on the WiFi system. So she plugged it in and it still works great!

Granny –
Great scanner. Compact and fast easy to set up
I previously used a Cannon multi printer / Scanner and it froze all the time. No problems with this one
HMD60 –
This is a great desktop scanner with Twain support for external programs. The quality is excellent. The Wi-Fi setup is difficult as the instructions lack detail. When setting this up on Wi-Fi you PC or Mac must be connected via Wi-Fi and not ethernet. Also, after you use the USB (included) to make the temporary connect remember to disconnect so that the software recognizes the Wi-Fi rather than the USB.
