Dyson has entered the headphone scene with their new Dyson Zone cans after extensive research and prototype development. After the first look at the original prototype, you’ll have a real appreciation for just how far the design has come for this gen 1 device.

You’ll want to install the MyDyson app to register and set up your headset. Registration is automatic once you pair your headset through the application using its guide. Full control of the fan speed, volume, and a limited equalizer is available in the app. There is also information provided regarding air quality and a volume monitor that includes any outside noises it picks up through the microphones.

Putting these on feels like putting a pair of soft pillows around your ears. The pressure and the weight are incredible given the size of this set and are well-suited for extended use. Attaching the visor used to direct purified air to your mouth and nose is easy with the assistance of the installed magnets. One limitation with the visor on is that you cannot rotate the crown of the headphones further towards the back of your head. However, you can easily extend it while attached if it is too close to your face and you would like some more room.

I was skeptical at first about the quality of the air purification, but that skepticism was immediately dismissed when I put these to the test. Stronger scents were completely unnoticeable even on the lowest setting with fresh filters. Fans can automatically change speed based on your breathing pattern and will turn off once the headphones have been removed. I do think there could be issues with some people getting dry eyes as a result of using these for longer periods of time at high fan speeds. Doing a test fit/run in person is highly recommended.

Fan noise is easily masked when music is playing with noise cancellation active but not so much without. At that point, these headphones are more of a personal air purifier and white noise machine, which may be perfect for some.

The sound quality is great, but the volume is limited. You’re not going to feel like you’re at an air-purified concert using these. The comfort and unique air purification capabilities make up for that loss to an extent.

Perhaps the biggest letdown during my testing was the battery life. With the volume all the way up and the fans set to the second level of filtering, I watched the battery drain from 70% to 30% while getting through three short matches in Overwatch over the course of less than an hour. With that, I have a hard time recommending these for gaming.

Overall, these are great. The cost of entry is as high as you would expect with the name. I think it’s a little hard to knock the price when there really isn’t another product that comes close to this. And personal space with clean air in almost any normal environment is priceless.

Dyson Zone is hands down the best headphones I’ve ever had the pleasure of owning. I haven’t owned something this fantastically good in about 13 years as far as headphones go. There are some layers to break down here since this is a first-of-its-class item In my opinion. Whatever Dyson is doing? They are now a major player in the headphone space. There is a ton to explain here.

Presentation is everything and Dyson gives you just that. And an outstanding presentation of the headphones in the box as everything you need is in there to get started. Dyson Zone, USB-C cable, cleaning brush, filters for each ear cup, and a carrying case. Normally I wouldn’t talk about the carrier case but the one they provide is so awesome. Everything fits in there and it just turns so easy with a locking knob. I adore this.

There’s a QR code to get you started as fast as possible and to get you to the Dyson app that plays a big role with these headphones. There’s also a quick start guide. Putting the air filters inside was very easy, as I felt this would be the most difficult part it was not.

The design of the Dyson Zone (at least to me) is a work of modern art and design. These headphones are downright beautiful, and the color scheme works perfectly well. It’s something about the Zone that just feels like they actually put love and care into your comfort as much as possible. Putting adjustments to the headband feels so solid after dealing with many companies’ headsets.

By any means, these are not headphones that feel cheap or built cheap. Everything feels crafted down to perfection. Headset controls are easy to use and quickly noticeable when wearing. The real star to show here is the air filter purification system through the mouthpiece. While you may look like a Cyberpunk enthusiast while it’s on it actually does serve its purpose perfectly.

You can adjust the mouthpiece to the headphones so the air can better circulate inside. It’s also made out of plastic as it should be to make proper adjustments. Each side is magnetic so attaches to the headphones themselves and you can pull it down slightly for talking. Truly a great idea for making these.

The filtered air comes goes through the earcups and into the mouthpiece giving you clean air in such places a urban areas. Where I am it’s a big city with enough pollution to give this a go. A few days out in the city and the Dyson Zone/ My Dyson App tries to adjust to the conditions pulling in data. For what it’s worth the app is really good at showing you information. You can feel the air pushing through

What do they sound like? Well, they sound like something I haven’t heard a very long time. In about 13 years. There are not many headphones out there that sound like this. Wireless sound has been lagging for a while but the Dyson Zone actually gets me excited again just about the future of headphones. These are a pinnacle in the wireless headphones categories. I couldn’t tell you the smile on my face when I heard proper bass. Everything was perfectly equal sounding and there are EQs you can work on yourself.

There are tons and I mean tons of information in the My Dyson app. Which gives you information about everything from air quality in your area, battery life, filter life, data of the sound, sound leak, interaction with the Dyson community, and so much more. Once you sign up the warranty is activated.

This brand or team of people really came out, swinging and showcasing they can really do sound in a proper manner. There were tons of genres that sound extremely great. But wait there is more…

ANC. This is one of the best implementations I’ve ever used for ANC. It actually makes a HUGE difference in your surroundings. There are three settings. Off, On, and a Hybrid. Turning it completely on cuts out so many background sounds. Giving you the best isolation you could possibly have zoning to your own music. Hybrid is where the ANC is off but you can still hear your surroundings. Double tapping one of the ear cups will activate the ANC.

Battery life with the air filter off; will net you the longest time here. I was able to go about a week without recharging them. Maybe totaling out to 35 hours of use and the battery wasn’t dead. The headphones achieve saving battery life in various ways. They turn off as soon as you take them off your head and turn on as soon as you put them on. The same goes if you move one earcup to listen to the outside world.

Battery life with the filter on; at the lowest settings with sound on gave me only a few hours of use. There is no way you can use these with the fans on all day. Filters last up to 12 months so they last a while once.

Also, the weight of headphones is heavy. Heavier than anything I have been used to thus far in this category. These are not the fault of the headphones, it’s just the way it has to be designed to fit the motors inside. I can see future iterations of this product reducing that.

I really like these headphones with great personal interest. Because I’m so blown away by how good these really are as opposed to the standard. I am extremely impressed with a Dyson zone. “Recommendation” is a light word for me to use when telling you how good they are. Get these if you can. It’s a sound that has to be heard when using…All of this is great even without the filtration system or the ANC on board. without these features, they stand on their own which is very jaw-dropping. These got to be the best headphones of 2023. Dyson should be so proud to put out something that actually can make a difference. Need more stars for this product.

I have such high hopes for these. He really love the outlandish design and the flashy, yet basic color scheme. And with our without the visor on, you’re going to get asked the obligatory(WHAT ARE THOOOSE?) which I love. But I’m getting ahead of myself. The Dyson Zone have been in development for quite a few years now. Even further back than Covid-19 became a thing, so scarves that off your list of reasons to buy these. But what you are here for, is the headphones. The sound quality is great, but for headphones this size, they could be much better. The ANC(active noise cancellation) is great as well. Though I have used better, but these aren’t any slouches. The listening range is great. We’ll over 30 feet for me. Even with things obstructing the wavelength. Playback, without the removable visor is supposedly 50 hours, but I love to crank my volume(not recommending that you do that.) But in doing so, I figured that I lost around 3 to 5 hours of playback time. Whoever, while using the visor for air purification, the playback time drops to at minimum, 2 hours and at most, 6 hours. Charging, with the very lengthy braided type C cable takes what seems like no time. So be sure to bring your beautifully sturdy carrying case with you to hold your stuff. The drivers house two fans(1 in each ear cup) and there are filters that easily snug inside to give you up to a year of purified air blowing through the openings in sides of the magnetic visor. The My Dyson app will let you know when it’s time to order replacements. Again, these are to used to protect against Covid-19, but they are capable of protecting your nasal passages from some seriously micro particals. I would give this a 5 star rating if not for the weight(even though, they are comfortable in sorry bursts(a couple hours) and the fact that are, at the time of this review, pricy. But that’s the cost of innovation. And if you’ve gotten this far, you already know the price. So with that being said, if you’ve got the funds, by all means, put these babies in your cart. Comic-Con, here we come.

Was gonna pay a months rent coming up for may but i figured lifes short. When i saw these i didnt think twice. Any tourist whos ever been to NYC knows how dirty it is. Imagine now never having to breath that dirty air again as u walk past that crazy guy whos screaming for no reason whatsoever as ur taking public transport. With these hesdphones now it blocks all of that out. Just truly amazing what dyson has done to help taxpayers like me.

A friend let me try these on for a while in Chicago and I gotta say I love them and I want this. The sound quality was crisp in the air was pure.

As always, unboxing a Dyson device is kinda like opening up a Christmas present. Their products are packaged well, and in such a way that allows you to discover them, step-by-step. The case the headphones are encased in, is top tier, of the highest quality, and will most assuredly protect the investment these Zone headphones represent.

Once the headset is fully charged, and after installing the MyDyson app on your phone, getting this device set up is pretty straightforward; with simple, easy-to-follow directions. Everything is there in the app to refer back to, which speaks to the attention to detail I’ve come to expect from Dyson.

The first time I put on the Dyson Zone headphones, I immediately noticed the power of it’s noise cancellation. Talk about ‘immersion.’ Wow! I also could feel the obvious weight of the headphones. These headphones are somewhat heavier than a traditional headset; which makes perfect sense. That being said, I’ve found I’m unable to wear the Dyzon Zone for over an hour, for this very reason. Perhaps I’ll adjust with time.

One thing that’s taking me some time to get used to, is having the visor constantly in front of my face. I’d imagine that if one were a motorcyclist, who wears a helmet while riding, that they’d be used to such a thing. But for me, it makes me feel somewhat claustrophobic. Perhaps I will also get more comfortable with this, given time.

With regards to the adjustable visor, I was initially concerned about how well it would hold up, since it’s so lightweight and made of plastic. But also, how best to clean the visor. Once again, the maintenance procedure is explained within the MyDyson app. Plus, there is a brush cleaning tool included.

Being able to just “flip down” the visor for speaking ‘face-to-face’ with other people, was nice, instead of having to remove it. Doing this, deactivates the air flow and noise cancelling feature.

To me, there did seem to be a noticable difference in the quality of air I was breathing while wearing the Dyzon Zone headphones. The air just “smelled” cleaner. You are able to monitor the stats for sound exposure and air pollution/purification in ‘real-time’, within the app itself. The MyDyson app will also notify when it’s time to replace the air filters.

The low-key “noise” made by the air purfiers right there on your ears, is a bit distracting; if you focus on it. Yet, the sound is subtle. Audio quality was lovely, when listening to music or podcasts, as well as, carrying on a mobile phone conversation. I could hear, and be heard, perfectly clear with no distortion, whatsoever.

Now the ‘ultra-soft’ ear cushions are comfortable. However, my ears did become “hot” after awhile. That usually happens, no matter the brand of headset featuring this style of ear cups. The audio joystick controls are on the right ear cup, and once you get familiar with what’s what, the control knob is easy to reach and super handy.

Of course, being a Dyson, the cost of the Zone is rather pricey, however … I am continually fascinated and impressed by the level of innnovation, quality of end product, and forward thinking put forth by this amazing brand. So, in my opinion, the cost is worth the investment.

I’m certain there are people who would want, and/or have a real need for this Dyson Zone. Most especially in this day and age. There are a variety of pollutants in the air we breathe. I can see this headset being useful for people who do a lot of walking along city streets, as it will capture and filter out vehicle fumes. Aong with people that suffer from various ailments or medical conditions who would benefit from this type of air purification device.

My overall impression? This Zone headset is high tech, forward-thinking, and simply beautiful. Well done, Dyson.

  7. Clshipp91

This is one crazy product. Part high end headphone and part air purifier, there is nothing I could compare the Dyson Zone to when I got it. Dyson no doubt delivers a high quality product, but is it a cool enough product to get past the weird look and feel of wearing a giant vizor on my face? I’m still not entirely sure.

The entire package is very high quality, as is all Dyson products. They have the same design language as many other Dyson products and feel incredibly comfortable on the head. The visor attchas with a very satisfying magnetic click and doesn’t feel uncomfortable on the head.

The sound quality is great. The highs are very rich and the lows come through great. The overall tuning is top notch. On top of this the active noise cancelling is some of the best I’ve ever used. It drowns out almost all noise from the outside, giving you a truly sound isolated listening environment.

The real reason to buy these though is the visor. It works exactly like you’d think it would, delivering fresh purified air right to your nose and mouth. If you don’t mind looking like a sci Fi character and live in an area where air quality is a major concern these headphones could provide some real benefits. And since attaching and removing the visor is so easy, you can still take full use of the headphones even when not needing the visor.

Overall these are top quality products, as expected by Dyson. The only real question you need to answer is the look going to work for you?

  8. KaeL

I will start this out by saying in general I am a huge fan of Dyson products so of course the Dyson Zone Headphones with Air Purification immediately peaked my interest. I will admit that my interest was tinged in confusion and befuddlement on the need for headphones that provided your own personal air purification for most people (although I think if these had come out 2-3 years ago during the height of the global crisis it might have been coveted just based on the concerns many had). Like most Dyson products you always feel like you are about to experience the most innovative and luxe product, right down to the way it’s packaged. This was absolutely true with these headphones also.

Setup was pretty straightforward and navigating the MyDyson app was simple even if you had never used it before for other Dyson products. I was definitely surprised by the weight of these headphones although it was apparent that there was some heft before I had even unboxed them. Even without the visor they are a little on the heavier side and at least for me makes extended time wearing them uncomfortable (after the 30-40 min mark it becomes a bit if a struggle for me to not want to take them off which is definitely a first for me when it comes to headphones). Weight aside, the noise cancellation is absolutely top notch in my opinion compared to many other over the ear headphones I have used. For me that is the most important aspect of any headphones I purchase offering noise cancellation…but almost feels like it should come secondary when considering this particular pair.

The feature that most would be focused on is obviously the air purification. The visor is interesting but definitely takes some getting used to. While it doesn’t actually touch your face it is a different feel for someone using headphones. The ability to flip down the visor when needed is a great touch as well as the ability to choose not to use them at all…of course meaning you opt out of the air purification feature. Yes, I can say the feature seemed to provide me with fresher air than what was surrounding me but I can’t say I have tested them in an environment that would truly make me feel like I NEEDED it (I guess the pollution on my city streets just don’t fit the level I would personally need to experience to want to constantly use it) although I feel like it might be amazing for people that experience allergy issues in my area during the height of pollen season (unfortunately I couldn’t really test that theory out since the pollen count has been extremely low since I received these). I do have to mention that there is noticeable noise emitted when the feature is being used. It’s not overbearing and probably wouldn’t bother most users but if you are sensitive it may be an annoyance.

Overall, I can see where these will be a great option for someone that REALLY needs and would benefit from the air purification based on their exposure but if you know you aren’t likely to utilize the feature on almost every use you might be dropping a lot of cash on what would be the equivalent of a pair of great noise canceling headphones. As much as I love the power of the noise canceling I wouldn’t invest in these based solely on that. But if I were in a much more polluted area regularly or felt like I would (and could) use these on frequent flights without issue (this I am not yet sure if that would be allowed or if it would be something that may be an issue depending on the airline and the way they view it) then I could see it being a nice investment for some peace of mind.

The first question you’ll ask when looking at Dyson’s Drive headphone/air filter is “Why do I need this?’ The Drive is for those that value separation from your environment and don’t mind looking like a geek. When worn properly, you’ll look like someone out of a sci-fi movie. The good news is that it sounds great, isolates background sound and gives you fresh air to breath. I have allergies, which are particularly bothersome in the spring. Because of that, I’ll often stay inside and forgo my walks in the neighborhood. Too much pollen drives my nose to sneeze and sniffle. Dyson’s Drive lets me enjoy being outside again knowing I have my personal protection bubble around me. While you might take this on a plane, the case is about the same volume as a laptop, so you won’t want to buy an economy ticket.

Your second question about the Drive will likely be “Is it worth it?” It has the name Dyson up front, so no one is kidding you about the price or the quality. Drive lives up to the Dyson name. The sound is top notch as a headset. The app includes a 3 option equalizer which lets you tune the “cans” how you like them. The default “natural” sound is a little flatter than most earbuds and headphones I’ve used. Enhanced will give you some additional bass while maintaining much of the mid-tones and highs that come through so clearly. In theory, some of the top end highs are lost. To my 50 year old hearing, this was not noticeable. Bass boost pushes the bass out even more to the point it starts to sound unnatural to me. While there’s clear definition, the bass is just a bit too intense for me.

I found the controls to be very intuitive. The app is easy to use. Bluetooth connections were quick and solid. This will not connect via a wire so you can’t use it with a plane’s seatback system without an adapter. The noise reduction was very impressive walking down the street. I haven’t flown anywhere since I received the Drive so can’t address a plane cabin. On a street or a noisy hall, it takes outside volume practically to nothing. It also nearly eliminates the sound of the air filter’s fans. One note, the battery lasts a long time

As a headset it works very well. Callers had no trouble hearing or understanding me. A few could not even tell I was on a headset. I had conversations both with and without the air filter faceplate engaged. Call quality was equally good in both cases. The biggest downside (and it is big) is the weight. While Dyson does a good job balancing the weight on your head and not your ears, you can still feel it after a while. This is a big headset and will wear on you. When you get sweaty, these do not help much with cooling your head (other than your face). I was fine wearing them for a couple of hours, but would not want them on all day.

Battery life is an area where there’s a surprising compromise. With noise cancelling on, the headphones lasted about 8 hours in continuous usage. With the fan going, I could not get a full day on my head. I know that motors draw power and there’s not much you can do about it. I would have hoped that Dyson would take that into consideration and either put larger batteries in the headphones or turned off the fan by default.

Is it worth it? There are noise canceling headphones which are cheaper. Of the ones I’ve tried, these are better than all of them. There are no headphones like these which have a built in air filter. That puts them in a class by themselves and a price all its own.

  10. skylog

To be honest, I really had no idea what to expect with these headphones. On some level, I truly asked, “Really?” That said, given I have had some experience with some other Dyson products, I suspected they would be designed well, built well, and have an overall quality to them. In short, they were all of that, and really good pair of headphones.

As expected, everything seems very well thought out and put together. Further, from the headphones themselves, to the cables, to the storage, to the accessories, everything is of high quality, and I expect will last over time. When it comes to looks, well, that is going to be a personal thing for people, and, frankly, I am not the biggest fan. They definitely look “futuristic,” and if I am being completely honest, a little like there are two Dyson vacuums on your ears. The visor has a similar look and color scheme, matches well, and is really easy to attach and detach. A pretty cool bit of engineering. I don’t know, I do not want to be too negative, but I just don’t really like the look or the colors, and while I am sure it will get better with time, I was having trouble getting accustomed to the visor.

Set-up was an easy process. Get them charged up, be sure to install the MyDyson App, and more or less follow some directions. I had no issues whatsoever, and I suspect most will not either. I really like the App for all the control and information it can provide. It gives you a host of information about air quality (although I guess I really don’t know that is determined), filter usage, battery life, and some nice EQ control. As always, I think it is worth the time to dial in your music to how you like it.

As for the headphones, as headphones, I think they sound great. I “think” this is Dyson’s first experience with headphones, and even with their track record, until they are out, and you use them, you just never know. I think they nailed it. Lows are deep and clean, mids are clear and highs are crisp. Everything is balanced and detailed. There was little to no distortion, even at high volumes, but, if I had one nitpick, it would be that the overall volume levels did not max out that high. I am sure this was intentional, but just something to note. Beyond the sound, these may be one of if not the best noise cancelling cans I have used. They did an excellent job of blocking everything out and getting that isolated feel.

Now, for the interesting/confusing part, at least for me. The air purification. To be clear, everything Dyson has put together here is well thought out, and seemingly done well. The filters in the ear cups are not that loud. They are slightly noticeable to me depending on the power when the ANC is off, although I guess this may vary by person. With the ANC on, for me, I did not know they were there. They absolutely deliver a nice stream of air to the visor and to you. Again, it all seems to work very well. In certain areas, places, circumstances, I think it could be a great thing to have. I just don’t think it is something I need. Perhaps I am underestimating the value, but per the app, I just never seemed to be in a spot where my air quality was bad.

So far, battery-life has been good, as advertised. That said, I think usage plays a major role in how long these will last. ANC drains it faster, as does using the air purification. So, keep in mind how you want to use these and how that will affect the battery life.

I probably should have hit on this sooner, but while I did find the headphones “comfortable” overall, as the cups are just great, and I think they did a great job with overall balance on your head…they are quite heavy. Moreso with the visor, which itself does not really weigh that much. For people familiar with some of the more popular brands of cans, the weight will be noticeable. It also does take a bit of time, but eventually I started to feel it. I suppose this is a matter of give and take, but, again, something to note.

I don’t know, I am quite torn about these. Ultimately, I really like how they sound, and I do really think Dyson has done a fantastic job putting these together. That said, I do question, for me personally, the value of the air purification. In some circumstances, I can see it, but if you do not find yourself in those circumstances, it is harder to do so. They are a great sounding pair of cans, but if you are not truly benefiting from one of main selling points of them, then the value is just not there for me. Again, the tech is great, the sound as well, and I think for some the overall package could be worth a look but be sure to check your use case.

Headphones. I own a lot of pairs. Whether they are for online gaming, mixing or listening to music, playing guitar or keyboards, or watching YouTube and Netflix, it really seems like I have a pair dedicated for each use. I own Dyson products and love them, so when these were announced, my interest was piqued. Dyson has a reputation for designing and utilizing premium materials in their consumer products. The headphones themselves and materials used are just that, premium on the highest level. This comes with a bit of a trade-off though, as the headphones are very heavy. That said, they are still comfortable to wear for long periods of time despite the weight. The padding on the ear cups and the top of the headband doesn’t cause me any discomfort and actually helps to relieve the weight. The magnetic air purification add-on is exactly the opposite. Extremely lightweight and honestly feels like a feather next to the headphones. I am sure that was designed purposely, as you wouldn’t want the front add-on to be so heavy that it causes your head to dive forward. While it is great that the optional air purifier face mask is light, it does feel very flimsy and I am already worried that it will break easily but that remains to be seen. As a bonus, the package comes with an excellent locking (¼ turn) clam-shell hard case that fits both the headphones and the face-mask. That is a huge bonus for transport and will most certainly add to the longevity of the face-mask. The air filters are actually (very easily) installed in the exterior sides of the ear cups which is pretty cool. In a world full of germs and pandemics, I think these headphones are pretty groundbreaking. Will they filter all outside germs, covid, etc.? I honestly have no idea, but what I do know is that these would be really great to have on a flight. Granted you don’t mind looking like a futuristic nerd. If this type of product becomes more accessible and mainstream, then I am sure more people will climb aboard for obvious reasons. If you are confident and want to stay healthy, then wearing this whole package actually makes a ton of sense and looks pretty cool as well. Moving on to sound quality which is in my humble opinion the single most important feature of any audio device I own. These are on par with, if not, the best sounding Bluetooth headphones I own and that’s saying something. As a musician and general audiophile, I think these are incredibly well built and sound extremely awesome. I do wish however that they would let you go a tad louder sometimes (you know, like to 11). That may also be because my hearing has taken a beating since I started playing drums in the 5th grade. Nevertheless, the EQ curve and tones I am hearing from these headphones is perfectly suited for every type of music I have tried. The app is also well designed and looks really cool as it reports on air quality and gives you suggestions on safe music listening levels in real time (I do not pay attention to this and I rock out as I see fit). Before I give my Pros and Cons, I will just say that I am completely flabbergasted by the fact that when you want to lay these flat on your chest while not in use, you need to take them off and put them on backwards. If you are wearing them with the L and R cans as marked on the inside of the ear-cups, they would fold flat with the cans facing outward as opposed to towards your chest. A massive design flaw that leaves me scratching my head as to why/how a company like this could overlook a feature like this in the first place. All in all, these sound excellent. This is the most important thing about headphones and audio gear in general. If you want or need that extra added layer of purified air, Dyson has you covered. PROS: Excellent build quality, design, and aesthetic. Fantastic hi fidelity sound. No other headphone offers air purification when needed. Easy to use app that displays air quality index in real time. Awesome hard case included. Filters are easy to install/replace. Excellent battery life so far. Excellent Bluetooth range. CONS: Heavy. Face-mask add-on feels flimsy. Uses filters, how long do they last, how much are the replacements? May turn some people off because of the look when the face-mask is attached. In conclusion, these give you the option to use as normal headphones, or as headphones with air purification. This is fantastic for certain scenarios, but if you want headphones just for sound and no purification, I would recommend other more accessible options.

After a week of using the Dyson Zone headphones, I still don’t know what to make of them. I can’t help but think they are a solution in search of a problem. Are they a technological marvel? Sure. Are they useful and practical? That’s going to depend largely on where you live, how much you value clean air, and your willingness to resemble a villain from a Batman movie. The good news is that Dyson got a lot right with the Zone headphones. The not-so-good news is that the best parts of these headphones have nothing to do with the air purification system.

    ===DESIGN AND COMFORT (3 Stars)===
    – There is nothing small or compact about the Dyson Zone headphones. They are the single heaviest and largest pair of headphones that I’ve ever used. Even the included carrying case is bulky and heavy. If you were planning to travel with these headphones, you might want to reconsider your options.
    – The design of the headphones is very industrial, consisting almost entirely of brushed metal. The ear cushions are extremely soft and plush, but only the top portion of the head band has padding. The two pieces of the head band that go down the sides of your head are extremely firm, resulting in noticeable clamping pressure while wearing the headphones.
    – Clamping pressure aside, the headphones are just plain heavy — they weigh a wopping 1.3 pounds on their own, and that’s with the face visor detached. I can comfortably wear them for maybe a couple of hours before I need to take them off to give my head some relief. Maybe I’ll get used to it over time, but right now I just can’t imagine walking around a busy city with such a heavy object pushing my head down. You also can’t comfortably rest these headphones around your neck when not in use (unless you enjoy the feeling of being choked).
    – For my ears, the earcup openings are just slightly too small. I have to wiggle the headphones a bit before my ears “pop” into the openings.
    – The carrying case is very durable and sturdy, but it too is very heavy and not ideal for throwing in a travel backpack. I do like the locking knob feature of the case – there’s no zipper to mess with.
    – Summary: If your head is sensitive to clamping force or weight from headphones, then these will probably be too much for you to handle. Aesthetically, the headphones look great (without the face visor, that is), but comfort was obviously sacrificed to allow all of the air filtration features to packed in. They are not practical to travel with, which defeats the purpose of having a personal air purifier wherever you go.

    ===NOISE CANCELLATION (4 Stars)===
    – If there’s one thing Dyson got right with these headphones, it’s noise cancellation. I’ve used all kinds of noise cancelling headphones in the past, including top-end models from Bose and Sony. The Dyson Zone headphones easily match the noise cancellation of the best Bose and Sony models, with maybe a couple minor shortfalls.
    – I’ve worn the Dyson Zones in a coffee shop, in a busy office, and outside on a very windy day. With the headphones set to “Isolation” mode in the Dyson app an no music playing, I can barely hear anything else going on around me. Background noise in the coffee shop and office disappears almost entirely. As soon as you start playing music, the outside world basically disappears.
    – The one caveat is when the air filtration motor is running – you can very faintly hear the motor from the earcups when there is no audio playing. It sounds like a whirring or hissing noise. With audio playing, this is basically a non-issue.
    – Compared to a pair of Sony WH-1000XM4s that I own, the Dyson Zones let through just a bit more low-frequency rumbles. The Sonys also do a slightly better job filtering out mid and high frequencies like voices.
    – The Dyson app has a very neat feature that shows you both in-ear and external sound levels (measured in decibels). This is a great way to visualize how effectiveness of the noise cancellation
    – Summary: Noise cancellation is great, especially for Dyson’s first swing at the technology. The downside is that other brands have noise cancelling headphones that are just as effective at a fraction of the price.

    ===AIR PURIFICATION (3 Stars)===
    – Here’s where things get weird. Air movement/purification is what Dyson is known for, and it’s certainly the main selling point of these headphones. Let’s start with this: I commend Dyson for this feat of engineering. It’s quite amazing that they were able to incorporate air purification into a standard headphone design. For those with underlying conditions susceptible to polluted air, I have no doubt that these headphones will provide small but meaningful improvements outside your home. But for everyone else, I can’t help but see these as an over-engineered device in search of a problem to solve.
    – That being said, I wanted to test these with an open mind, so that’s what I did. Reluctantly, I snapped on the magnetic face visor, turned the airflow setting to “auto” in the Dyson app, and walked for a few blocks around my apartment hoping that no one would see me (luckily, I think I made it home unseen).
    – The face visor does not create a seal around your nose and mouth, so its overall effectiveness seems dubious to me. Rather, the visor blows purified air around your face. It feels nice, especially on warm days.
    – During my walk outside, the main pollutant reported in the Dyson app was NO2 with a “fair” rating. Unfortunately, there is no PM sensor built into the headphones, so the app cannot report levels of PM2.5, which is one of the main air pollutants in major cities.
    – For my next test, I seared some salmon on the stove in my apartment and let the odor take over. After a few minutes, I put on the headphones, attached the face visor, and turned the airflow speed all the way up to see if it would filter out the smell. Amazingly, it worked – the air being pushed onto my mouth and nostrils smelled perfectly fine, and the cooked salmon smell was gone.
    – The biggest issue for most people, I think, will be one of self-consciousness. Yes, I was actively worried that someone would stop and laugh at me during my short walk outside. It’s possible that a device like this wouldn’t even turn any heads in certain cities or countries. But in most places in the US, you’re going to attract some attention to yourself while wearing this with the face visor. Maybe that will change over time.
    – Summary: It’s an impressive feat of engineering, and I don’t doubt that certain people will find the air purification hugely beneficial. But for most people, I think this will be more of a novelty than anything else.

    ===SOUND QUALITY (4.5 Stars)===
    – If I didn’t know any better, I would have thought that Dyson had been making headphones or audio products for years. These sound amazing for the company’s first stab at headphones.
    – Highs are present but not overbearing. Vocals and mid-range are crisp and clear. There’s plenty of bass and it’s not overpowering.
    – In the Dyson app, you can choose three audio modes: Enhanced, Bass Boost, and Neutral. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that you can make any manual adjustments to the equalizer. My guess is that a lot of people will prefer the Bass Boost mode, since even with the deep bass of this mode, mids and highs remain bright and detailed.
    – Summary: You’ll want to feed the Dyson Zones some high-quality audio tracks. Out of the box, these are the best-sounding headphones I’ve ever used.

    ===OVERALL===
If Dyson continues to design and release headphones in the future, I sincerely hope they will consider making a model that drops all of the air purification features. Or at least a version where you could entirely remove the air purification system (not just the face visor) to reduce weight. The overall look, noise cancellation, sound quality, and Dyson app are all very impressive. Unfortunately, air purification takes center stage with the Dyson Zone, resulting in extra weight and gimmicks that probably won’t appeal to most people. The near $1000 price is also a big turn off, especially considering you can get comparable noise cancellation and sound quality in headphones for a third of the cost. So really, you’re left paying quite a large premium for the air purification features in the Dyson Zone headphones. And I’m not exactly sure who is in that market — maybe audiophiles walking through heavily polluted cities? If that’s you, and if you don’t mind getting some funny looks, then maybe these are worth considering.

First of all I have played with these for about a day now. I want to first state that I did go to a local Dyson Demo store and made an appointment to try these out. It was an amazing interactive experience and kudos to the gentleman that helped me at the Dallas location at the Dyson Shop at Park Lane. I wanted to get info and interaction with a professional before getting my pair. I finally got my pair and I am a little disappointed to say that Dyson made 2 configurations of the Zone. There is the Zone that comes in one color, like the color here. Also there is the Zone Absolute+. Some of you may be asking what is the difference. The ones from Best-Buy as of May 4, 2023 are just the regular Zone. The Absolute+ come with a different carrying case (that looks amazing and I may add i believe is for $100 and currently sold out) and the flight adapters (didnt see online or if it will be available). I’m sorry Dyson but for $50 more you include these with the Absolute+ and not the regular zones (rip-off). Also they are the exact same headphones just different color and different visor. Next if you are looking super loud headphones these are not it. Yes they go loud and have bass but as a consumer researching these headphones do go to a limited amount of volume to protect your hearing. Now that is up to you but keep in mind the max volume on these headphones protect your hearing. Meaning if you want to listen to super loud and ruin your hearing these headphones won’t allow it. When it comes to pairing the Dyson rep did tell me Android is more easier than iOS and he was spot on with this. When pairing with my iPhone it did glitch out and wouldn’t let me. Remember these are Gen 1 and I’m sure Dyson will be putting out firmware updates quickly but the fix was to restart my phone and uninstall app and repair the headphones but it did take a few tries. I did pair with 1 attempt with Android relatively quickly. I don’t know how I either dropped or the visor fell off and less than one day old and they have a scratch on them already. I will say Dyson did drop the ball on the paint or the material for the chrome part, but I guess improvement will be made in the future. Last part Dyson I really hope you see this and fix this is the future. Not everyone has a small head, when designing this I’m sure you were looking at small heads, not everyone has a small head. Unfortunately I do have a bigger head and with the visor it sometimes detaches when I put it in the transparency mode (lower it). I’m not sure if you will be making bigger visors that cover more of the nose and mouth, but I think people with bigger faces/ nose to mouth ration require bigger visor which I really hope Dyson engineers see this and fix this in the future or come out with a more covered face. Overall these are good headphones. Can you get some for way less of course. Now I will give it to Dyson for being the first in this new category, but I hope future generation/improvements are done relatively quickly. I will say with the purification and having a bigger head/ face I will have to decide if I like keep these, headphones alone they are fine but with the visor Dyson really needs to improve for those with bigger/longer faces. As they are right now and how they fit me I would return them. Also for those wondering the fan does 3 fan speeds and Auto. Is it super breezy not really but I’m sure future generations will have high and more fan speed options. I will say in the lowest speed/ Auto 1 that you can barely tell any air is coming out but with speed 3 it feels relatively low. I know these are all working on rechargeable batteries but battery life is somewhat low on the purifying mode. I know future gens may get slimmer and more air but current models the air is relatively low. Don’t expect fast moving air and the noise cancelling is really well made. I hope this helps those on the fence and they are cool to try and they make a statement but ultimately I feel future models will get better! The app gives you amazing real time data and good information as well!

    Meh,

Sound doesn’t get loud enough. Bass is just ok. The noise cancelling is pretty good. The air filtering is neat but not necessary in 99% of Americans lives.

They don’t filter smells…only particles. So the smelly guy on the subway will still smell bad. You just may not get his Corona.

They are kinda heavy. Not fun for gym use.

    Not worth $1k

Mostly a flex. The left speaker started distorting after 10 mins of use.

  15. Celeron

Looks like it has its uses, maybe need fo wait for a sale

when Sennheiser makes a vacuum cleaner, I’ll give it some consideration. I can breathe quite fine with my Focal Celeste

  17. MickeyDeeJay

Not even in the apocalypse. Average sound at best. No voice changer 😉 and the price?! The JOKES on you.

  18. BS999

Nobody in their right mind would pay $1000 for these average sounding headphones with a ridiculous “air filter” attached. Simply amazes me that even one pair have been sold. Dyson should stick to making over priced vacuum cleaners.

Great air purifier decent sound! I would have loved a bit better sound from them.
