Hello45 –
I am pretty tough on receivers having gone through at least 10 since 2015. I swap a lot when something starts giving me issues because there should be no issues with something this pricey. So far this thing is holding its own. I haven’t tested the 8K as I don’t have an 8K tv, but the 4K HDR looks great on my LG OLED.
AnthonyH –
I Really like the versatility of the unit. I was able to add my Sonos speakers to play in the theater room as well
MarkL –
Previously had the equivalent Marantz but it was a lemon. This Denon exceeds expectations. The clarity at any volume is perfection. For the price point I could not recommend strong enough, this receiver.
NathanielP –
Good product for the price. Easy to use. Highly recommended.
KevinW –
I was looking for an upgrade from my old amp and this 1 fills my needs. Great power and a feature that will set up a separate location that can run a separate program, music or whatever you wish.
Miamial –
The ease of use and set up and instruction for a first time set up is great
RickeyR –
Easy hookup and setup, nice features. I enjoy my new system!
JackieJ –
Loving it! This is my second unit. The first gave me error codes after 5 months of ownership. Best Buy replaced it, and the replacement sounds better than the first AVR.
Ace1972 –
I really loved the receiver with my epson 5040 and other components like computer, 4K player, ps5 and others everything works great and even setup the 4 height speakers still new to add the middle for the voice of god as they call it. Now not so good with my Sony 295 4k for some reason I cannot video to work I get sound but no picture. If I just hook projector and ps5 works with video but no sound. Really stress about this it’s either a setting or maybe needs an update.

Denon – AVR-X3800H powers my multi speaker basement and sounds pretty awesome. Having multiple zones in a great option. It was great to be able to listen to this gem in store in the demo room with the speakers in house.
SyamM –
This was amazing and buying from best Buy is worth instead any other suppliers, in addition took annual membership to get more discounts. love to be a member of Bestbuy.
AnitaW –
Does and excellent job the previous stereo from denon stopped working within months but this one is excellent.
Horrse –
Feature rich but not the right fit for me sonically. Much too bright, even with warm speakers. Should have listened to the reviews but wanted to try it out for myself. Physical remote also feels cheap and the app is a bit laggy. I’m returning it for something else, perhaps the RZ50 or Cinema 50.
JosephG –
Great product works really well everything that sales person told me is true
TamC –
Best receiver ever! Supports my 4 overhead atmos speakers with ease. The interface and setup of this receiver and top notch. It’s been ranked multiple times as the best receiver in it’s price range.
Ricky –
Excellent sound quality and output. Multiple USB and HDMI ports and wireless connectivity for speakers and auxillary components,

Sounds great with TV – pretty much useless for gaming. I bought the 3800 2 years ago as upgrade to older Denon 1600 unit. It had compatibility issue with Xfinity from day one. The unit causes my Xfinity cable box to crash and only a hard reboot can recover from the crash. Anyone familiar with Xfinity box will know that a hard reboot takes about 10 minutes to complete – so a major PIA.
The crash is caused when switching between Xbox and Xfinity cable box. I had early call with Denon tech service – after several sessions, I was told that Denon could not resolve and maybe Xfinity would release an update to fix it. Now after 2 years of completely bypassing the AVR when using Xbox, I just tried again. Same issue. Xfinity has 15 million cable subscribers in the US. It’s unbelievable to me that Denon released a product with this defect and after 2 years has not resolved it.

Very pleased with this purchase. Lots of loud clicks when it gets up and running, not sure if that is normal for these things.
crowleywild –
Does a great job of powering my 5.2 channel HT system.
SteveW –
Good except the Wi-Fi didn’t work despite Denon support efforts. Store experience was awful in attempting to get a replacement. Finally just got a refund and ordered another one from Amazon.
Keith –
This receiver performs very good and does an outstanding job.

120hz/4K, 60hz/8k, HDR, eARC, Atmos. It’s got it all. Sounds great. Smooth setup via UI, microphone based speaker configuration. No complaints.
satisfiedcustomer –

Geek –
Exactly what we wanted fir our home theater set up
Patrick –
Easy understood plug -n-play. The quality of sound because of the Audyssey Microphone for sound calibration is outrageous! It puts my Sony receiver to shame. I do not regret purchasing Denon. Especially with all the extras that are built in the Denon I bought.
AntonioC –
So far it’s been the best receiver I’ve owned recommend for everyone looking for great sound
JosephD –
This receiver replaced a worn out and old technology X7200Wa – which was Denon’s Flagship 9 years ago. I could not afford the new Denon Flagship A1H so I took a look at the Denon X3800H because it was on sale for $1299.99. I am blown away by the capability and functions at this price point – the X3800H is loaded with new technology and works great
VaishalibenG –
Great , speechless item
Very appreciated… recommend this product
DennisA –
Very nice outstanding product. 400 dollars would work out nicely towards more items for my home theater setup. Thank you Best Buy.
Wolverines2015 –
Amazing sound – easy to setup, used to be a Sony devotee, but this is the ideal receiver.
SonjaG –
We haven’t purchased anything “stereo” since the 80’s. Boy, things have changed. We now own a beautiful Denon. This is so wonder. The soulful sound flows through the entire house with clarity. I am in love with music again.
DelorisP –
excellent system
Good sound
Excellent integration in old system

I recently purchased this receiver during the Black Friday sales event. My Best Buy membership gave me an additional $500 dollars off. This receiver replaced my ‘2010 Onkyo receiver. The Onkyo receiver was great back in the day but it has antiquated technology that can no longer keep up with my new Sony TV. My new Denon receiver is definitely a major upgrade especially when it comes to the surround sound and visual quality while watching movies. I am happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend it.
Michael –
Bought this for our living room. Love that it allows for two zones which helps when watching football or listening to music.
MarthamD –
Upgraded from an older Denon to a newer and more robust Denon model to keep up with technology. Great product!
MarkandlindaE –

jlammerm –

Famador –
I had the 2800 but board fried. This is by far superior sound
RykerXL –
Wanted a receiver I could grow with as I currently have a 5.1 system. I hooked it up and it sounded really good. Then I did some digging and applied Dynamic EQ and this thing blew my mind! By far the BEST sounding surround I have ever heard in my system. It’s amazing. Trust you have to have a great source (I’m using APPLE TV) that is sending a great 5.1 or better signal. Upmixing stereo isn’t bad either. Totally worth the extra $$$.. Time to get some height and back surround speakers! Oh and the 8k pass through, not an issue at all, works great!
TNY69 –
First and foremost denon needs a design upgrade. It looks like my grandads old receiver. Other than that, it is a very nice sounding receiver, It was annoying that like almost everything now a days, you need the internet to update it. The Plug and play days are over. The control has too much going on and from having another Denon for over 7 years I found that you only use the same 5 buttons all the time. SO the 3800 was an upgrade for me and It provided decent sound and ok surround sound. I was not completely sold and I felt something was missing. I mentioned the RZ50 from Onkyo to the best buy rep and he was not interested and put down onkyo because they are no longer the company from many years ago. I decided to get the Denon, but I kept reading reviews and watching videos on several Receivers. the RZ50 was constantly being mentioned as a sleeper and that it put receivers in its price range to shame etc. So can so many people be right? Then I ordered the RZ50. I have been putting together a new high end speaker package together and have been listening to all types of receivers, speakers, subwoofers etc. I found this receiver was very basic and did power my Kef towers and center. The clarity in sound I was looking for in music and the detail in surround was just not there. It was just mediocre and I was happy but just not satisfied. I read and heard many positive things about the RZ50 and so I decided to try it out. Thats when everything changed, Not only it powered my speakers easily, but the sound in both music and movies was just incredible. Im not knocking the Denon I had both receivers side by side and both plugged in to the same speaker, the 3800s just didnt give my Kefs the sound I was looking for, all Im saying is, dont go by what is recommended, go by what makes you happy and gives you that sound you have been looking for. Dont hesitate to do the research, you will be surprised. Oh yeah and Dirac is included with the RZ. Theres a reason why the RZ50 are in backorder and you have to wait weeks to get one. I found the sound I was looking for, and for a great price. Good luck in finding your sound.

Upgraded from entry level denon 760H, noticeable improvement in sound quality. Has all the connections needed for the latest and greatest
TechSavvy –
This receiver works very well. Smart enough to switch to the correct mode when different inputs are detects. Plenty of power for a full home theater system. Works well with KEF speakers. At the member sale price of $1200 it’s a great value.
JoePM –
Denon is a great brand with quality products. I am loyal to Denon for all my audio needs. Would highly recommend this Denon AVR-X3800H receiver to all with expectations of a great audio experience.
MarkA –
Actually wanted the 6800 , gentlemen was very helpful at store . And very knowledgeable.
PJred –
After my previous receiver quit working, I needed a replacement. Following several days of research online, I decided on the Denon AVR-X3800H. In its price range, it received consistently good reviews from its owners.
With its step-by-step guide, it was simple to setup my surround system, PS5, CD player, and turntable.
I’ve only owned the receiver for a relatively short time, but, so far, I’m quite satisfied with my purchase.
BryanS –
Killer AVR! The DSP processing is awesome.
Flexibility excellent.
The firmware.. is a learning curve.
It’s the only drawback, could be improved.
But once u learn it, it is fantastic in its ability.
You may find yourself asking questions of Denon support. Some know the product, some have no clue lol! Be patient. Take your time. With all outputs active and most all inputs, it takes some learning.

I got this on sale to replace my older Denon 4311ci AVR in a 5.2 system in the living room. I have a X4800H in my theater running 9.4.2 setup, so I am familiar with Denon’s AVRs. I was a little concerned that it is made in Vietnam and not Japan, like the 4800 (and most higher end Denon AVRs). Time will tell, but it has been great for the first week at least. I do intend to install some in-ceiling speakers in the living room bringing this to a 5.2.4 setup. I don’t believe I will get Audyssey MultiEQ-X as I did in the theater with the 4800. That paid software allows you to really customize the calibration more thoroughly and accurately. With 4 18″ subs in the theater, it is really important, but not as much in the living room with 2 12″ subs for casual listening and watching TV.
For a budget theater, this is perfect. Probably overkill for a casual listener. Denon does a great job with firmware updates, their frequently updated HEOS app, and the network app that lets you control it from a PC, tablet or phone. Works pretty great and I use the app to check the status of things periodically.
I am not a gamer so can’t really speak to that. Passes 4k HDR great if that’s what you need. BTW, I still use the old 4311ci remote so that I wouldn’t confuse my wife.
Finally, I’ll add that I have a homemade cooler similiar to the AC Infinity stuff you can buy. I made my own with computer fans, and it is very easy to do. I feel that having a cooler on it gives me piece of mind that if something does happen, it will not be because it overheated.
In summary, well built and engineered. All the features you need for todays tech. Shouldn’t have to upgrade for maybe 6-10 years.
