  1. EmceeN

Setup to get proper sound took a long time. I had my LG C1 working fine with a 4 year old Denon 2300 AVR that a moving company recently ruined. I have a 5.2 setup with all Klipsch RP speakers, and after a fair amount of effort this unit does produce quality sound.

Out of the box, the settings that I had used with the 2300 previously did not work well with this 2800. Over the course of a few days, using primarily the web control function of the denon AVR app, I was able to finally dial-in excellent sound. However, an oddity was that I was using DTS Neural X as my primary processor with the 2300 and it sounds horrible on this new unit no matter what little tweaks I do. Dolby Surround has turned out to be the best sound processing option, but only after I adjusted and tweaked various levels, the EQ, and distances just-right before this new unit sounded good.

All that aside, once I adjusted the settings, this unit really does sound good. The heos app has a basic interface if you have music downloaded on your own phone that you want to stream. You can make it happen, but it’s not a seamless experience and it’s not user friendly.

Is it possible that moving up to a more expensive unit would resolve some of the neck-pain this unit forces upon you… maybe. However, at 50 years old, there are certain price points that I just will not accept and the next step up model price was a bridge too far.

I would also offer a word of caution to pay attention to the BB return policy which is only 14 days. I thought it was 30 days, but you only get an extended return period if you pay for various Best buy membership types.

Final comment, e-arc between my LG C1 and this unit would not work seamlessly. Sound was transferred, but the LG remote would not control volume up and down nor mute over HDMI. I finally erased the external device settings and switched to an optical cable and now I can control all these things through the LG magic remote. I cannot tell much difference in sound quality, so if you have a similar setup don’t waste time with HDMI as the LG system recognizes 20 something denon receiver options, not by model but rather it says here’s option one, here’s option two, here’s option three… I tried four or five configurations which without fail would not control the volume.

  2. KimB

This receiver is awesome! I had purchased several receivers in the past year only to return them due to lack of capabilities! Geek squad thank you!

  3. JimB

This is my Third Denon receiver and I am astonished that they could actually improve the superb quality. Still a big fan!

  4. falk

Has all I need and more features specifically like the Bluetooth ability!

  5. RobertH

After my Denon 4310ci finally gave out, I purchased an Onkyo NR7100, but then had to return it because it had an annoying 2-3 sec audio delay when changing inputs or even upon fast forwarding or skipping on the same input. Replaced with this unit. Despite having slightly less power, 7.2ch vs 9.2ch, one fewer HDMI input, no legacy A/V inputs, and being slightly more expensive, I could not be happier. It works flawlessly switching/processing video AND audio. Sound is outstanding after room calibration and it drives my Martin-Logans with ease.

  6. ElectricScooter

This is an awesome product. This is the second one that I purchased this year.

  7. BearDawg

Five stars! This is the 2nd time I bought one of these, because the SACD sounds great through this Denon-AVR-X2800H, so I needed it in two rooms. I definitely like this, and the music and sound come through so clearly! Can’t go wrong on this.

  8. CraigS

I was hoping that a new Receiver would fix my theater. But no. I have ordered a new home theater. Alex Osborn is my rep. therefore, I am returning the Denon on 10/24/23.

  9. AdamC

Very versatile and a great sounding for both music and home theater. Can’t go wrong at the price.

  10. Kurt

Bought this Denon receiver to replace my 10 year old Denon just to get the new surround sound the new ones have. This is my third Denon receiver. I up grade about every 10 years. Looked at other brands but always find Denon has the one that work for me for the price.

  11. AdrienneO

High end equipment for reasonable price backed by best buy

  12. Tutuman007

This receiver was an upgrade from what I had and it made pictures very clean and clear

  13. TonyRo

This one’s loaded with features! The sound is crisp and clean. I’m getting ready to purchase the HEOS speakers to add another dimension to my listening pleasure. The Bluetooth option is another feature that allows for playing a long list of smooth jazz favorites throughout the day. I’m still learning to navigate through all the options, but I am sure glad I bought it!!

  14. Pete

Easy to operate and nothing to difficult which is nice.

  15. StLPinstriping

I bought this unit on Oct. 24th, 2023 at Best Buy in Brentwood, Mo. It arrived the next day via UPS with no issues.
Setup and functionality are extremely frustrating and I’m on the verge of returning it.
Everything is connected correctly, including speakers, wi-fi and the HDMI/optical cables to my tv (which is only 4 months old). The receiver constantly stops communicating to the tv and the output sound reverts back to the tv speakers. When I try to use the optical input, it never connects and I haven’t been able to get sound with this input. Note that when the Dolby Surround does connect, it sounds very good but only lasts for about 15-20 seconds.
The cables I’m using worked perfectly with other devices and are only about a year old. The user interface with this unit is poor and at the price point I expect it to be anything but that.
I called Best Buy technical support and they were no help whatsoever in resolving these issues. Furthermore, they didn’t even attempt to and only told me they could send a shipping return label or I could return it to a store. So much for technical support on products they claim to know about.

  16. camera

It’s ok , but not great, this unit is not powerful enough to do everything it clams to but it’s pretty cheap and it’s the Lower model but I’m still not impressed

  17. ChrisS

Very good quality for the money, powers my entire atoms system without any issues.

  18. Becki

Denon and Mirantz are the Best and most reliable receivers. Can’t go wrong with the quality.

  19. Janda

Powerful and performs above expectations. Denon seems to hold the key to great sound in my home.

  20. VishnuI

This delivers very good sound as per the given configuration..

  21. Refer

I have had this receiver for a month now and with multiple geek squad visits it is still not functioning correctly with the tv. Could it be the tv maybe but so far no one has been able to figure it out

  22. VeryGoodTV

Great amplifier. My third. Only buy Demon. The overall quality is always great. Have entertainment room wired for 7 speakers. Surround sound. Works freat

  23. Henry

For those of you wondering what the difference between the X2800H vs S970H is, I can tell you sound quality. The X2800H simply has the fullness and bass that many complain the S970H does not have. I just swapped the S970H out for the X2800H, same speakers (Klipsch Reference 800), same set up but what a difference in sound, despite the paper specs being the same. Well worth the extra dollars.

  24. KevinK

Make sure you are very knowledgeable or have someone very knowledgeable to help set this unit up.

  25. SusanM

So happy with our new dennon receiver with KEF speakers! Sales people were very knowledgeable and professional. Would come here again!

  26. Bill

This receiver is a great fix for the dual amp needs we have for our house speakers and the media room being able to work independent of each other at the same time. The bluetooth is a bonus from our previous receiver. All HDMI connections go through the receiver.

  27. BonnieR

Shuffle doesn’t work, plays the same songs over and over

  28. RicardoG

Top of the line receiver very impressive worth every dollar

  29. Lion

Unfortunately our unit was not working right out of the box. I have read good reviews about this receiver but I can only speak of our own experience. If anything I believe Denon would do themselves a huge favor of they improved quality control.

  30. ScottinFOCO

So far so good. Upgrading from a Denon 760h. Nice features & power upgrade. Got it a a great price on sale.

  31. Dboy

Great improvement on sound from old receiver. Lots of bells and whistles that let me connect remotely to play any station or piece of music

  32. StephenY

Absolutely Awesome. This thing does everything you could possibly need it to and has the ability for growth down the road if so desired….

  33. Zman

Thank you Best Buy and Geek Squad for attention to detail and professionalism

  34. OscarC

Like a movie theater sound stereo?!! Amazing!
    I recommended 100%

  35. RaulS

I purchase the Denon AVR-2800H and find it is a good fit for my home theater. I’ve only had it for a week or so. I’m so happy with my purchase.

  36. CraigR

Love all the features and the ease of hooking up my new Denon Receiver. This is my third receiver and it is amazing.

  37. WCInLA

Easy to set up, the HEOS ap is awesome. Everything I hoped for, listening to my music is easy and sounds great. Replaced my old Denon.

  38. ClaytonP

Cheapest 7.2 with serial control. It does everything else short of dealing cards. Anything cheaper won’t have serial control or as much power per channel. Anything more expensive wouldn’t benefit my install since it’s 5.2.2 which this receiver does well.

  39. AmyS

Updating our old receiver with the a new
Denon accomplished what we wanted for our home theater system. So far we are very pleased with the Denon.

  40. AnthonyE1

Great value for money spent! I will definitely consider purchasing this brand in the future. This product provides great amplification and gives good clarity!

  41. SandyM

    It works perfectly.
We all love it a lot.
It’s not difficult to setup too. Definitely worth to have it

  42. AdamW

fantastic product – easy set up and great picture and sound quality .
As a Best Buy member I was able to purchase for the same price as denon offered as a refurbished option!

  43. Results

Excellent A/V Receiver sound and product quality at a reasonable price.

  44. RaymondJ

This unit was okay but I ended up going with the Marantz Cinema 60

  45. Thebeast

Very good and excellent receiver. I’m glad I chose it. I gave it to thumbs up.

  46. Edip

Great use for a stereo set up with Martin Logan speakers, sounds full and lively. Music sounds phenomenal in this unit, and movies even in stereo is amazing. Can’t wait to add more speakers

  47. ThomasP

Great value and Great price. We are enjoying this.

  48. RogerD

Well worth the money! I recommend buying this item.

  49. Happyhappy

I really like this item. I believe it was a very good purchase for what I was wondering for…..

  50. Harmonyelite

I just finished setting up this receiver and am very pleased with how it functions. It did take me a few tries to set it up correctly but I don’t think that it was the fault of the receiver. Once it was hooked up correctly, it was very easy to use. It connected to all of my seven speakers and with the use of a microphone, it adjusted the sound to fit my living room.
