The 17-inch MacBook Pros were truly wonderful computers. They would be still if macOS and other software hadn’t passed them by, but between the screen size and the DVD drive and all those glorious ports, they still fill a niche. So glad I was able to find a replacement battery after the original finally exploded.

Arrived on time. Fit perfectly. Replaced original battery that swelled and popped it’s case. Working great. Glad to be able to find it here at Best Buy!

The Good: Packaged well, and arrived a day early. Battery was sealed inside an electrostatic bag. Fit was perfect; sits flush with the bottom of the laptop base. Other 3rd party batteries have been known to stick out 3 or 4 millimeters from the base. Arrived half charged; laptop powered on first attempt. Reported manufacture is SMP/Simplo.

The Bad: Plastic housing, unlike Apple’s original battery which used an aluminum metal case. Battery is labeled 6600 mAh (original spec) but System Report and CoconutBattery both report the design is only 5600 mAh, and the capacity is only 5800 mAh. This is about 85% of the original spec. From full charge, laptop only lasted 80 minutes before hibernation shutdown. That reduces its value a lot. Also, CB reported this battery is almost 2 years old. That could be a factor in the battery capacity.

In short, brought my 2007 MacBook back to life, but withholding final judgement. I’ll give it a few months and battery charge cycles to see how it holds up.
