    I was really contemplating getting the rf 100-500 L series lens. I really wanted it but then out of nowhere i see this lens and think let me give it a try. So i get it today and a hour later get a crazy good sharp picture of this red tailed hawk………this lens is crazy good for the price. Not to mention ive saved about 2 grand and to think the rf 200-500 lens is coming out soon anyway. I recommend to anyone with a canon r camera……… you don’t need to spend all this extra money for a lens when you can get this one cheaper and get similar results

    I love the zoom lock feature, which I wish I had on my other zoom lenses. Photos are sharp, even though the lens is a bit slow. Excellent value and compact for such a lens.

    When this first came out I dismissed it based off the slow aperture. I picked it up on sale and overall I’m quite impressed with the lens. Image stabilization is excellent, and Rivals my m43 gear, both on an unstabilized RP, and a stabilized R6. It’s relatively light and easy to carry, and isn’t too front heavy feeling mounted on a camera body, it focuses quickly, and it’s impressively sharp for a slow, consumer grade lens. The two principal drawbacks are it’s not weather sealed, and the aperture is painfully slow, to the point where it’s not always easy to have good background separation depending on your distance from your subject. Fortunately the slow aperture is somewhat compensated for by the very good high ISO performance of the full frame RF bodies . You can also ding it for not having a lens Hood but I won’t hold that against it, Canon doesn’t do that for any of their cheap glass.

    For the price, this is a pretty good telephoto lens. I used this to get pictures at little league sporting events, and was pleased with the results.

    The lens is quite a bit longer than the 24-105mm that came with my camera, but that is completely expected.

    It does not come with a shade, which I purchased separately

    I purchased this lens to use with my Canon R6 MKII. Lens works great. Very sharp pictures, auto focus works really well. Naturally you have to watch your lighting conditions, but with image stabilization on both lens and camera, the shots at low shutter speed and low light aren’t bad. I mainly purchased this to use for wildlife pictures and at my grandsons football games. The attached picture was taken at approx. 180 feet with this lens.

    My favorite lens in my bag. I use it for wildlife, sports, and even landscapes. Sharp images, easy zoom, fast auto focus. I really love being able to zoom in a grab detail shots. The F5.6 struggles with low light and every once in a while I wish I had the extra 100mm but for the price it’s been an amazing lens. Eventually I would love the 100-500.

    Perfect for anyone looking for an affordable telephoto zoom lens.

    This is a great lens from Canon. It has great optics, it’s fast and lightweight. It gets the job done for wildlife and nature and is not anywhere near as expensive as the 100-500. It’s a no-brainer for wildlife.

    very good lens, works very well with nature photography. mechanics are simple and useful. very small width so doesn’t work well with fast moving subjects without good tracking. very light and easy to package. main flaw i found was the zoom dial being a little hard to rotate, not much give.

     Glass is what you would expect for a lens around $500. But it’s not a disappointment would recommend.

    I’m really enjoying this lens. As someone who mostly shoots landscapes and abstract/ minimal nature photos, I love being able to zoom in and pick out compositions. The lens is also allowing me to start taking some better wildlife shots too, which is super exciting. When I’m not shooting video with the Canon R8, I’m using this lens for photography.

    It is important not to expect this lens to offer the same kinds of photos as the 100-500 or other higher end telephotos. It still takes excellent photos, especially of landscapes and probably larger animals.

    It is lightweight, feels good quality, and is fun to use.
