I have both the bose 700 (soundbar, rear speakers, sub) and the B&W soundbar, sub, and 2 rear flex speakers and the B&W is outstanding. Watching a movie with surround sound or streaming music via airplay, it far exceeds the bose products.

As a standalone speaker im sure the flex is great, but i suspect its most often used in conjunction with the soundbar and sub for surround sound. The only issue is when you set up two flex speakers as a stereo pair they do not play at all if you are watching content not in surround sound. Most if not all on demand or live TV using an Apple TV for example the flex speakers do not play at all. Switching to a movie on the apple tv that is 5.1 surround and they are outstanding.

Just be aware that they won’t play if the source content is not surround sound. I was expecting them to just play audio anyway like how the soundbar does in all situations. this is not the case.

Absolutely epic speakers. Infuriatingly glitchy app interface. It is truly shocking and disappointing that Bowers would release this incredible lineup of speakers with an app this unreliable. Set up is clunky and that’s the highlight of the interface. Once you’re up and running, if you ever get there you’ll want to prepare yourself for perpetual speed bumps. Sometimes the sub engages with the sound bar and sometimes it decides it wants to stay asleep. Switching a speaker from Bluetooth to WiFi requires you “reset” the speaker through the app, which is like taking a 5 minute recess from recess. And if you don’t do a reset after connecting via Bluetooth the speaker will simply remain “on” for all perpetuity, which is nice. Of course this is assuming you can connect to the speaker(s) at all, which is not a mathematical certainty. As superior as these speakers are to something like Sonos I’m offended that Bowers would have the audacity to charge the kind of money they’re peddling these things for knowing full well how embarrassingly unreliable this interface is. My mind is blown.

The formation flex is a wonderful speaker producing an almost clinically precise sound. The highs are clear and bright, without ever turning shrill. The mids are robust and distinct, while the bass is tuneful but not forceful. If you want a rumbling bass presence, there are other options (devialet’s phantom reactor should do the job). This is a wonderfully balanced soundscape, though, and I recommend it. Whereas some speakers sound best only when played well above 50% volume, this one is good from about 15% to 95%.

There are some negative aspects to keep in mind.
    1. You will need to set this speaker up with the app on a secure WiFi network before Bluetooth will work.
    2. There is no battery, so this requires a power outlet within about 5 feet in order to operate the speaker.
    3. Initial set up was a little more tedious than expected (only takes about 10 minutes, but it’s a bit more complicated than it needs to be)
    4. No aux input

Still, I recommend this speaker wholeheartedly (and I’m really picky about speakers).

For years I have been looking for audiophile level stereo speakers I could connect to my iMac for HiRes audio output. I settled on Apple HomePods, They sounded great. A bit too much bass, but good. The problem was no stereo play for youtube, Spotify, or Tidal. The would revert to mono. Terrible. Hours on the phone to Apple. “Not supported” after three levels of help.
The BW formation work great! Instantly connected via Bluetooth in stereo. No problem with youtube, or Tidal. HiRes!
But, bass was a bit thin. So, I bought the subwoofer. Amazing sound. Clean and not fatiging. Love them. Way too expensive, but, you get what you pay for.

  5. Pclark

So happy with the performance of the speaker. Amazing sound! Not the easiest to connect.

  6. Jason7597

Product is super easy to use and the sound is excellent

  7. Slb731

These speakers are awesome. Work well with the Soundbar and sub we got!

  8. Nickname2020

Don’t miss the Tidal offer – Tucked away under Special Offers is 3 months of Tidal Service.

I missed it, and have been advised that the only way i can now get this is to return the product and buy another speaker… What a waste of everyone’s time for what must surely amount to a digital code.

  9. Poru

I have been a B&W Fan ever since my P1 headphones. I chose this line of product because of the reviews and the software upgrade option that B&W displayed in their Youtube review for the speakers.

  10. Chill

Great sound in such a small speaker. It will blow you away with pristine sound and impressive bass when paired with a second 1. If you pair it with the bass, it will sound like a stereo hi-fi unit.

  11. slb731

Very happy with the purchase. The quality of the sound is well worth the price.

  12. Ooahman

Nice sound, get the Sub with it. Not as impressive as the wedge. but it provides nice sound for a small footprint

  13. preludejr10

I have the Formation sound bar and the Formation subwoofer and combination sounded very good. I decided to add the Formation Flex and wow this added so much more realism and theatre like boom and depth to the total viewing experience. The total quality is awesome. A great test was when watching Greyhound. I have a Martin Logan 7.2 Dolby Atmos system with a Marantz Receiver as a reference and I will say that the Formation system in my bedroom while not the Same as the Martin Logan’s that I have in my Media room. They are a very satisfying system in my bedroom. They’re awesome

  14. bdmore

An excellent sound speaker, Good and profound sound with an easy set up app. An excellent choice compared to Sonos that is the most popular brand. All our apartment is fill with a profound, clear and powerful sound.

  15. Reviewer1

I just don’t see the value in these speakers and I’m a HUGE B&W fan. The sound just really isn’t all that great and if they’re set up next to a formation wedge, it really demonstrates how poorly they sound. Bass is just okay (should be better for the size), and there just isn’t as much clarity as I’d expect at this price. Sure they match the other formation speakers sonically and aesthetically but would only work well enough as surrounds where it’s okay to have sub-par speakers…but for this price? Pass.

  16. TB16

B&W Formation speakers are outstanding. This is my 4th speaker. I bought these to add to my current system. Now I have wireless premium surround sound without the hassle of wires and install.

  17. Deimos951

They sound great and blend very well with the soundbar and subwoofer.

  18. Daniel

this is a good product. I really like it and i would reconmand to my friends and family

  19. fuderoso

Always great sound, especially for a small speaker!

  20. Dough

These Speakers are amazing. Music sounds crisp and dialogue is crystal clear. They’d be great as a standalone speaker but I bought two of these to pair with the Soundbar (for surround), it’s awesome. Highly Recommended

  21. BWFormation

I am very happy with Best Buy’s geek squad service but not as happy with the product. Not having a remote control sucks and the app functions erratically. It’s hard to even adjust bass and treble through the app. Really poor of the manufacturing to launch a product without a remote. But Ross and Tony are amazing!

  22. ndesign

could not really use it due to the flaw in b&w app design. sent numerous hours on the phone with tech support and finally gave up…

  23. SHSJ

I got one flex earlier. The sound is good but not surpass other single channel wireless speakers at lower price. A week after I brought one more and set up as stereo pair, then the magic happened. It’s way better than a single (mono) channel. I had other active speakers but this pair is the best in sound quality.

  24. Pate

Great speaker if you’re willing to spend the price on a wireless speaker. As others have said, the bass may not be as strong as some other wireless speakers, but you get B&W quality with this.

  25. LGOLEd

The Bowers & Wilkins Formation Flex Wireless Speakers are equally as impressive as there amplified counterparts. Setup is easy.

  26. zee2022

Having owned CM5/CM9s, dont think these are on same level. They are clear and some bounce and sounds better about 12″ away from wall. I’ve had sonos and these definitely carry more weight.

  27. Hodedo

Huge addition to my base and sound bar of the Flex series.

  28. yyyccclll

Very nice to have both look and function beyond expectations.

  29. Bummed

I have two paired for stereo sound. For the price the lows should be better. But overall I’m satisfied . I’ve never had connection issues like others complain about the formation line.

  30. PaulK

I bought this as an outdoor, portable speaker. It does have to be plugged in to play but the sound quality is amazing. Product is sturdy and doesn’t feel cheap. Highly recommend

  31. Boulder

A mighty little speaker. For our kitchen and 3-season porch, we’ve been running a Sonos Play:1 for the last 5 years. For some reason it stopped connecting to wifi and after several hours of going through the various troubleshooting steps multiple times, I gave up. The B&W arrived today. Wow! Much better audio quality. It can be grouped with other devices on our Roon platform and so far has stayed sync’d across devices. And it was a breeze to setup.

  32. Greg

Outstanding speakers. A lil expensive but BB priced matched when I found same speakers.

  33. Hom34lone

Excellent speakers, definitely a good match to my existing home theater configuration, the sound is incredible great!!!

  34. Salva

Just purchased today. Tech at store couldn’t connect w ,nor could I at home
There are many complaints about this bowers and wilkins app.

  35. Fozz

Ive owned many if the B&W streaming speakers from the Zeppelin to the Zeppelin air all the way to the new formation series. They’ve had issues with electronics. Ive had speakers die, release magic smoke, glitch. These are much better. Sonos is dead simple but everything is done through their app. I use the Apple eco system for my streaming so i don’t want to use the Sonos app. B&W make it simple to use Airplay. Plus imho these soeakers are a clear step up in terms if sound quality.

  36. Mistermechanic

I absolutely love the formation series and this has been a great addition to that !

  37. Soso

great speaker but sometime hard to connect. Formation flex doesn’t have Bluetooth. Only for internet.
