Super comfortable. Have long sessions without any discomfort. Sound is amazing. You’ll hear sounds you usually cant hear. Really good for producing. (I produce electronic music).
SleezyBoy –
Sounded really good until they snapped in half making them unusable. This is a common problem with people who use them a lot. AT offered to fix them at my expense, though it is their problem, meaning their headphones would of cost me double. Keep looking unless you like expensive paperweights.

My daughter went through two pairs of sony headphones and both stopped working within a year. Decided to splurge and buy these and couldn’t be happier.
Proc –
Great sound and blocks out the white noise without a problem

Great Headphones!!!
Perfect sound, love this headphones!!!
AlRo796 –
Seriously, these headphones are AMAZING. The only cons I have to say for these are the headband isn’t that great (my heads gets “tired” or “sore”), but other than that, these are great! And adding some replacement ear pads from Brainwavz make these even BETTER.
Momof3boys –
Purchased for my 16 year old. He LOVES the … sound great … best thing is I can still get his attention while they are on!
Buckeyesfan –
These are fantastic headphones. Neutral sound with the proper amount of bass. I prefer these over other more expensive headphones I have. I would buy these again in a heartbeat!
SoggyWaffles –
A bit tight around the head so it does give me a small headache if worn for long periods of time, but great sound quality.
cwstar –
Great sound quality. Cables are too long and I had to order shorter cables. Other that that, it is a pretty good headphone.
Noah –
Very good headphones good sound quality especially with custom earpads

Honestly Ive watch tons of reviews on both the M40x and the M50x and I had to go to Sam Ash to listen to them both.
I ended up getting the M40x’s and Im so glad I did. They sound incredible using them with my phone, my computer and my mixer.
Everything is balanced and crystal clear. Its like one of those things where I want to listen to all the music I love because it sounds so much better through these headphones. I have a pair of Beats Studio3 which I will give credit to because they sound really good, BUT they are tuned for high bass response and so its artificial. Even if most people don’t know the difference I do because I mix, record and master a lot and I know the way the songs are supposed to sound and that’s not a bad thing. Its just a pure musical sound and makes you appreciate music much more once you know your tool for listening is allowing you to hear the content the way it was mastered in the studio.
Get a pair and don’t compare them to anything else you’ve ever listened to and try to understand their true purpose. I believe you will appreciate them, and love them… Cheers!

I knew the earpads would be uncomfortable when buying this, so I bought some softer earpads at the same time. The ones that come with it are not good for long-term wearing because they tend to become uncomfortable.

I treated myself to these amazing headphones for my birthday and did not regret purchasing.
The head band is adjustable, and comes with two long cables and an extra jack.
The cushions are soft and plush on the ears which is a plus in the cold weather. I’ve also worn them in the rain (light) and no harm done.
Speakers are great quality and use them with my iPhone 8+ (bought an adapter/converter cable separately for ten dollars).
When I play my music, I only hear that and not the noise from outside which I am happy with.

I listen to music constantly, so I have several pairs of headphones. Everyday wear headphones, sleeping headphones. None particularly great, but adequate. Queue the arrival of the new Tool album. I do some research, and scoop these up. Reasonably priced, good headphones.
I am happy!
Hardhead –
Simply put, these headphones are great for the price. Comfortable and clear sound.
Aricu –
I own a pair of these. They are tremendous headphones. They are designed for mixing music so they have a well balanced sound across the frequency range to them. I actually enjoy listening to balanced music opposed to by overly hyped.
SaintJahn –
Get these bad boys. I listened to so songs I’ve listened to my whole life and and heard things I didn’t hear before with this. They don’t really hole sound in well so the person next to you will be able to hear it too. So kids, keep the punk rock volume down are might end up in military school.
DrummerDude97 –
These headphones have worked great for me when it comes to mixing music and are even good for causal/detailed listening as well. Best paired when listening to HiFi mixes on Tidal!

This is a very good set of headphones, good quality for price.
Derric –
There great i’ve had for about a month or two and they sound amazing!
Brandon –
Very comfortable over ear headphones. After wearing for 3 consecutive hours minimal ear fatigue.
lilith –
I love these headphones. They’re comfy for wearing for a long time and the sound is great. The only reason they don’t get five stars is because the one plastic swivel for the left hearphone keeps snapping. Luckily, the first time they were under warranty and got repaired. But now, over a year later, it snapped again. Really frustrating that if you handle it even slightly wrong they are rendered useless.

highly rated by other publications / Youtube; comfortable to wear, performs like it’s suppose to. I’d highly recommend this product.

Audio-Technica ATH-M40x Headphones exceeded my expectations. I believe this is the most bang for the buck in this price range . I would purchase again .
Thomas –
Great sound and comfortable over my ears. I couldn’t be pleased more.
Maggie –
Love these headphones! Super adjustable, good clamping force (but not too strong), and I’m able to wear my glasses with them! I love the different options given for cords and jacks that really make them universally useful.

I purchased these to replace mine 30 year old Sony digital headphones which have now develop chain buzzing in one of the headsets. These particular were highly recommended on the musician forums I belong to.
Well, they have a very rich and full sound. They deliver a very flat response with tight bass and clear highs. They fit tighter than my old sonys but than again these are new and my old sonys have been well used. If you have a large head, your ears might get fatigued after long usage. I like a tighter headphone that will not slide off my head while playing my guitars so they work for me. Having 2 included chords with sufficient length that twist and lock into the phones prevents them from pulling out accidentally. I really like these headphones and the price isn’t out of reach for most folks.
Sleep21 –
These cans have a pure sound that delivers as advertised. Not overly bassy…

I needed headphones to game while my wife watched TV. These are so good my daughter kidnaps them when I don’t use them! Having two different style cords is a plus, but they are somewhat proprietary. They lock into the headphones, making it easier to actually break a cord if you snag it on something. I would rather the cord pulled out in that situation. As far as sound, I only used them for music once, but my daughter loves them! I think they are well built and should last a long time.

My husband uses this for keeping me happy when he plays guitar !!

Purchased these headphones to use with my portable keyboard. Sound is great. Comfortable. Fits nicely over ears.
Patrick –
The sound was good but the design failed as the sides broke at the pivot points. JB Weld fixed one side and then the other side broke at the same pivot point. They lasted just over a year.

Audio Technica – Headphones
Built better then most and sounds incredible , Nice and snug around the ears .
rjl555 –
Sounds great to me. Comfortable on the ears. I like the longer cord length.

The best pair of headphones I’ve ever used for recording

Good, solid set of headphones. I’m a producer at a public radio station, I work on a public affairs talk show. I’ve been using these headphones for a few weeks now and I am happy with the audio quality I get through them. I don’t get the heavy bass I’ve been getting with other consumer headphones, which allows me to pick up on background noise and anything else I wouldn’t want our listeners to be distracted by. I have a large head and it’s hard to find headphones that fit, but these work for me and don’t apply a ton of pressure to the sides of my head. I appreciate having the longer cord, and two versions of a cord – straight and coiled. I’m going to need to pick up another pair for my home set up and I feel pretty good about getting another one of these.

I’ve had these headphones for 3 years and am glad I made the purchase. I had listened to the M30x, M40x and M50x in the store but felt the M40x offered the best value. They were noticeably better than the M30x – with more clarity across all higher frequencies – but I did not think the M50x were worth the extra cost or dramatically better. I rely on the M40x when listening to music, and when tracking vocals, guitar or medium-to-super-high frequency instruments in the studio. I would not trust these exclusively when mixing tracks, but I do use them occasionally, to get a good all-round check on the balance and sound (in addition of course to checking the mix on the car stereo). They are perhaps a touch quiet in the low-end and I do not use them if I am tracking bass or drums (see below for my alternative recommendation for that). They are pretty light weight, which is great if you’re in the studio doing tons of overdubs or doing the marathon podcast.
One thing that I really like about this set is that the cable is detachable from the phones. In case the cable has issues, you don’t have to get the whole thing repaired. That said, I’ve had no technical problems or obvious signs of wear and tear, despite regular use for 3 years straight. The cable also has a nice, screw-on 1/4-inch adapter. Not sure if this is the same with all packages, but mine also came with earbuds, with a built-in microphone. That has been my workhorse around the house and for working at home. Nice durable, fabric cable too.
One of the headphones I was also comparing this to when deciding whether to buy was the (trusty) Sennheiser HD 280 PRO. Those are a little cheaper, and a worthwhile purchase for more focused tasks. I use those *exclusively* when tracking bass and drums – the noise cancellation alone is incredible – and they have a big warm, low-end sound. Because of the good low-end, however they don’t deliver a good all-round sound, particularly if you want to hear those nice airy high frequencies. That said, I recommend them for a quick check on the low end of your mix, or when tracking bass or drums. They’re a little heavy, but that’s for another review … needless to say, I bought that one as well 🙂

I love everthing about these headphones; they are comfortable, the sound quality is great for the price, durability and (detachable!) cord length are both great! I would highly recommend these!
MikeeZero –
These headphones deliver exactly what I want to hear for editing and mixing audiobook and voice-over recordings in my home studio. They also have very little, if any, bleed while being used for recording. The detachable cable selection is a nice touch, and the build quality is excellent.
Techy009 –
Good sound. Good build, but mostly plastic, and very light. Easy to fold up in compact form.
CarolH –
I use these with my digital piano. Excellent sound quality, blocking out all outside noise. Very comfortable, and I really like the long, curly cord.
Duey05 –
Outstanding headphones for the money. Sometimes, you just want a corded connection.
JonathanM –
i hear everything! it has improved my mixing and mastering process
JadenB –
Good I liked it a lot because the base was deep. A50 aren’t that different
James –
What fantastic headphones! I started with the M50x and was surprised to find that I preferred the cheaper option. The M50x is quite bass-heavy, while the M40x is much more balanced, which I prefer, whether I’m recording or just everyday listening.
Aminella –
The fit is nice and the audio quality is quite good for the price.
Kierc –
Bought this with an adapter for lossless audio, works great with the apple dongle. Love the locking mechanism for the jack
CharlieC –
Perfect for my needs when it comes to mixing. Also Best Buy made the whole experience easy. Couldn’t be better.
