  1. TomC

These speakers are perfect for my surround system and I use them for my primary rear speakers. I am thinking of getting another pair for my surround back speakers to compliment my Yamaha system to fully utilize my 7.1 Digital Dolby Prologic IIz decoder. Although I have JBL front speakers and a Sony center speaker, the quality of the Yamaha speakers is perfect and these speakers are the perfect add-on. They have a more robust sound than the smaller rear surround speakers I’ve tested. I may even get a third pair for my other receiver. For the money and for a Yamaha brand, this item cannot be beat.

  2. Pick

I’m really happy with the quality of this item. It is a great buy for the price paid.

  3. mayoo

I have these for a few years now and they out did the Klishp R-15M.
Best budget speakers without compromising on sound

  4. SnowWhite

Great speakers for outside as well as indoors. Just the right size, mounted on wall and sounds great.

  5. Bandpop

Bought these for the old stereo in the spare room. They have a nice crisp sound that more then fills the room. A great sound for the price. I have been very happy with Yamaha products.

  6. John

Great sound, that’s all I need to say.You would be a fool not to buy them, great price

  7. RonB

There may be better quality speakers out there but you’ll pay three or four times more for a pair. For the price these speakers can’t be beat

  8. Nickname

These were a great price from a quality manufacturer so I thought I would give them a try. The cabinets are made of a thin material and the light weight tells me the speaker magnets are not substantial. Still the sound is clean and with a decent subwoofer it works as a satellite speaker. It looks good, too.

  9. jerryy00

These speakers are probably a bit large for bookshelves, but they send out such good sound that it is worth it to build or buy some stands to set them on. It would be easy to gush on about how great they sound for a wide variety of music (and as a bonus, they work really well as home theatre speakers), but reading about them is not the same as hearing them. They are well worth buying and listening for your own enjoyment.

  10. Christmasmom

The best value I found for the price. Great sound quality.

  11. Mike

These speakers are great for the money. I use them as my back speakers on my surround sound and they sound fantastic.

  12. Music

I am a Home Studio geek intent on finding the best gear at a reasonable price. My main speaker monitors are Tannoys that have a great overall range for mixing, Good lows, mids, highs. They were around $400.00 for the pair. I thought I would get some standard stereo speakers to check out my mix on my stereo. Yamaha has always been admirable in my book. However these speakers prove the old adage, “you get what you pay for”. The speakers had no bottom end at all, even when I tried to e.q. them with various music cds,. I took the 8 inch driver out and the quality was shameful. I know it had to have weighed less than a pound. In Yamaha’s defense, I know they make great studio monitors as well as good, more expensive, stereo speakers. I can’t say that about these. These will serve as a good project by replacing the speakers with better quality speakers and serve as a good lesson in 3 way design. The cabinets look very good.

  13. LilJonny

A better than average 3way bookshelf speaker for the price. A little lacking in the lower and high ranges; but, overall a good speaker for the average listener. Yamaha always has a clear pure sound, and this speaker delivers on that legacy.

  14. Charles

Sound good good looking but they are fragile. If they drop to the floor for any reason they will brake. Overpriced by at least $49.99

  15. KINGDIAMOND666

These yamaha 8″ bookshelf speakers were not good enough for me to keep. The midrange speaker is barely audible with my ear 6″ from the driver. Just a overall cheap sound not doing well at any frequency. Even the guy i sold them to said the mid speaker was blown but i told him you have to put your ear right next to it to hear the mids.

  16. Malcolm

Good quality, slow delivery. Disappointed at the in store options

  17. Sparkytdg

Have them hooked up to an old Pioneer deck in the garage with Technics turn table. PERFECT sound for when I am working on the car. Loud enough I can sing and not upset the neighbors, and loud enough to hear tuning of the 396 with music. I researched a bit, retired Mechanical Engineer. These seemed as good or better than any others in the price range.

  18. Timmy

Not the best bookshelves I’ve heard, but for the price they are great. Nice addition to any home theater for rears etc.

  19. Torta

Yamaha Always a good Choice nice-looking excellent sound easy to install easy to operate I will recommend

  20. DUTSEY

I installed these speakers inside a local restaurant. The customer was very happy with the sound quality. These are great for background music and easy listening. They are not meant to be blasted at high volumes but they do well when paired with a home stereo receiver.

A lot of potential for excellent sound and performance. First, the simple crossover consists of only 2 filter capacitors. The woofer if getting full frequency. The mid range is actually a mid-tweeter, and has too much output compared to the other drivers. And, there is no sound absorbing stuffing in the box. However if you are handy, with a few simple mods you will end up with a respectable sounding speaker. First, you can add a 1mh inductor coil in series with the woofer + wire to help reduce upper frequencies to woofer. Be sure to securely glue it down. Next, add a 10ohm 10 watt resistor in series with the + wire to the mid-range driver to tone it down a little. Then you can cut a 2 hole in back and add a 2 O.D. X 5 inch long port tube the help bring out the lows. Finally, add some acoustic stuffing in the box, covering the back and sides loosely. The end result will be a deeper and more powerful bass, a tad mellower in upper mid’s. The entire procedure took me about 3 hours.

  22. HardRocker

Nice little setup for my vinyls. Sounds great, they do crank up.

  23. Mikeshane

These speakers are definitely worth the money. I’ve owned many stereo systems in my life and these speakers are very clear, dynamic, and have a good bottom base, for me a subwoofer is not needed.

  24. Birthdaypresenttome

I am enjoying the sound quality.Foe r the price .I’m completely satisfied

  25. Nay73

Love these Yamaha speakers!! Complements the Record player and receive wonderfully

  26. Jeff

I bought these speakers not expecting much due to its attractive price. My receiver is a 20-year-old Onkyo TX-8511-B no reason to purchase high end speakers for an aging receiver. I still prefer acoustic suspension 3-way speakers more than 2-way bass reflex speakers. The Yamaha NS-6490 speakers more than met my expectations…exceptional woofer,midrange,tweeter..great sound for the price. The cloth cover and the lightweight design means handle with care…

  27. user135449

I really wasn’t expecting much from these Yamaha – 8″ 3-Way Bookshelf Speakers at the price I paid. Much to my surprise I was impressed at the sound quality. The bass. Midrange and high range were very good. In this price range I highly recommend these speakers

  28. Verygoodforthemoney

I am old school sound. I love 4-way speakers but hard to get. So tried these and found a good substitute.

  29. Joezay677

The sealed box features a classic acoustic suspension system that gives greater depth of sound with clean image on vocals. The 8 in woofer delivers great clean tight bass that comes out when its supposed to and is punchy in the mids.*Do note the speaker needs a break in period of about 60-80hrs before the woofers truly come to their full potential** Only downside the crossover between the 8in woofer and 4in woofer could use improvement but for the price its not a big deal. Especially if used in conjunction with other 2 way speakers its not too noticeable.

  30. gallego

Nice speakers probably I d like with more power, but for small spaces is more than enoug

  31. JohnG

Totally impressed with sound quality of these speakers. Excellent range from high to low. Nice sturdy case. A bit big for bookshelves. Better have a sturdy shelf because they’re fairly large and heavy. Plenty of power for a 20’x20′ room. A bargain at $169.

  32. JimmyP

Good value and match my Yamaha equipment. Used for rear speakers on surround system. Nice upgrade

  33. Dino

Awesome for the price great sound I bought an onkyo 6100 and are using them for my front left and right.

  34. MatthewS

These speakers are gigantic. They were way too big for what we were looking for. Sound was fine though.

  35. FIREFIGHTER1982

I enjoy these speakers daily. I use them to watch movies and they produce sound well with voices clear and sounds crisp.

  36. Happy

Not as good as my JBL studio monitors, but almost. Bass is a little tubby, but well balanced overall.

  37. Aufedder

great sound and good looking. Fits sound to my room perfectly.

  38. WilliamM
