  1. Shazam

Randomly makes a clicking noise which is normal but scares me at night

  2. rbsa

I had older EX2 and had to change due to old firmware and not having cloud access. this works really good and the new OS5 is working great. as long as you have solid internet connection you wont have any issue accessing your data from anywhere in the world. I personally did access my files from different countries and works really good.

  3. Matt

Seems like a nice unit but I can not get the DLNA server to work although it did work with my now deceased My Cloud until it had a hard drive death.
WD is providing support but after three days of effort: no success so far.
    :-(.

  4. Geezer51

I bought this along with two WD red 4 TB drives. It’s configured as mirrored (RAID 1) NAS volume. Used as local backup and to access files via the WD app on our phones. Setup was surprising simple.
Would of given it 5 stars except for the fact WD didn’t give much of a discount for my obsolete “My Cloud OS3” device.

  5. AJComputer

I use this drive to store some of my important files in a raid 1 config and I use it to play videos. So far it has performed extremely well. It was able to download 800 gb of data in 3 hours. It has also never lagged when playing videos. I recommend this drive to anyone who wants a NAS drive!

  6. peepachu

Easy to use and set up.
Recognized my drives and fired up right away.
You will need to use FTP software like Filezilla or WinSCP in order to transfer files so bear that in mind.

  7. AdamV

I recently replaced an older mycloud NAS device with this product and have been very happy with the responsiveness of this device. The interface is much improved and the speed is also impressive. I’m still not jappy with WD’s lack of support with my prvious device but I’ll give them a second chance.

  8. hootie318

Super quick install and configuration. I’m not a huge fan of using WDs software but it’s easy to get around like their other cloud devices.

  9. RonSR

So far this is a very efficient NAS, pretty fast too. I like it!!!

  10. Bryce

I was able to set this up on my home network without any previous experience. Now we have a large secure space for our pictures, music and important files. We lost an external drive before so the raid 1 was a feature I was looking for.

  11. MTK1

This is my 1st NAS and it’s great! I was back and forth between this and a Synology NAS from another retailer but decided to give this one a shot. I initially put my PLEX library on it and ran the PLEX Media Server from my Nvidia Shield TV Pro, but have since installed the PLEX Media Server on the NAS and have experienced no issues. It in fact runs better than on the Shield TV as long as there is no transcoding involved.

  12. TimeZone

This is great using 2 shucked 8tb hard drives and works great !!!! Get one easy to setup

  13. Dmost

I added two WD 16Tb Drives to this NAS device and configured it with the RAID 1 profile. It works well for backup from other WD storage devices. I’m very pleased with it. Although it took a while to assemble, I saved a few dollars putting it together by myself and learned a bit about configuring such devices.

  14. Tyb280

Great NAS, would definitely purchase it again and recommend it!!!

  15. Gonzo

Great Web server, very reliable! Trusted brand, great tech-support!

  16. NewOne

Good product. Seamless photo backup to dropbox and clouds. Purchased disk-less version, stuffed it with Seagate 18Tb drives. Sweet.

  17. iWatch

Took a little time to setup and get everything copied to it, but it works great.

  18. John

Would definitely buy again, very good product, held up well!

  19. SigneffectsAustin

Exactly what we needed to replace our antiquated file server! So much faster than the old machine it is amazing.
Set up as a dual RAID we now have a current backup all the time. With 4TB of storage, we should have enough to go several more years without needing more, and when we do, just swapping out the disks is super simple!
    Thanks Best Buy!

  20. Alex

Works wonderful. All of our precious photos and videos saved

  21. McNerdo

This device’s performance exceeds my expectations. The app for transferring data using the device’s built-in USB 3.0 port makes data transfers lightning fast. My hard-earned $$ were well spent.

  22. Bayway

Works as expected. A lot faster than my old My Cloud

  23. YachtMcYachtface

It stores things. It really does store things well.

  24. Grover

This unit is very nice. Sturdy. Putting my own drives in it that I ordered was an easy process. I originally meant to order a MyBook Duo and not a NAS; my worry was that I HAD to have it hooked up to the cloud and not just my local network. Thankfully, there is a setting in it that disables a cloud connection to your device.

  25. Westerndigital

Easy to setup price was good like the brand for reliability

  26. KonradP

Love these for remote and long term storage. Fantastic for small offices, families full of techies and people who travel that don’t like always having to pay for streaming services. The built in pieces app works great

  27. FumiN

I am pretty happy with this purchase. I bought a diskless model because it was cheaper to buy 2 8TB hard drives separately rather than buying a 16TB model of this My Cloud EX2 Ultra. Setup was pretty easy and straight forward. I am using this to backup all my photos on my iPhone because I didn’t want to spend $9.99 every month for 2TB iCloud service and also to use it as PLEX media sever. It does its job I originally intended to use it for and I’m very satisfied. I am still learning but I see a lot of potentials in this product.

  28. Kish

Still works as a das is needed. Easy to set up. Little slow

  29. brted

This is a good solution for me since I don’t want to get involved with third party clouds and I have two computers. I had an old My Cloud that WD stopped supporting for access away from home and was too small anyway. The newer My Cloud requires internet access even if you are in your house (?), but not this model. I like that it can be configured as a RAID so the loss of either drive won’t be catastrophic.

Setting it up wasn’t bad. It has a lot of capabilities and options, so it is a lot more complicated than just an external hard drive. Mostly it is just time consuming to move files over. The fan was always going for the first couple of days so it was really loud but I think that is because I was loading it with files and it was indexing them. After the first couple of days the fan rarely runs and it is very quiet. Maybe if you were streaming video from it the fan would restart, but I’m not doing that. There is a delay when accessing a file while the drives spin up, but otherwise this is much faster than the old MyCloud. I haven’t tried to connect any external drives to it (which was painfully slow on the old My Cloud). One nice feature is putting the app on your phone and/or iPad so that they will back up photos from those devices easily and quickly.

I will say keep an eye on prices. It was cheaper for me to buy the empty My Cloud and then get 2 4TB drives separately from Best Buy. Then I found another place that had the same WD Red drives even cheaper, so I was able to save a good bit.

  30. NewKenChip

I had 2 nat hard drives that needed a home and this was on sale and with all the rewards this was a great buy. So easy to use just back up info and the worry is gone. so much easer than using USB drives.

  31. Ploppy

Instructions were a little lacking, but I eventually got it set in RAID 1 with my 2 new 10TB hard drives. Moved about 5TB of data on to it pretty quickly and now everything is backup up and accessable from all the computers and laptops in my house.

  32. BobR

Serveral reasons: (1) doesn’t use an easily removal caddy (plastic or metal) for the drives; (2) attaching side screws are only at the top, and not both top and bottom; (3) use of a screwed-in flashing to prevent the drives from moving should be used in conjunction with the disk caddies; (4) creation of a web-based file share is very awkward; (5) file sharing in general is cumbersome and difficult to setup; (6) no power button/switch – relies entirely with plugged into NAS assembly; (7) no shutdown function provided; (8) limited number of applications available; (9) majority of the so-called “free” applications either require a subscription, or a paid license; (10) customization of installed applications is cumbersome and awkward; (11) reset and/or factory function(s) take far too long than other NAS manufacturers; (12) RAID with no spanning capability; and (13) limited amount of memory, nor is memory upgradeable. Compared to other NAS manufacturers (Synology, QNAP, Buffalo), WD’s capabilities are very limited. Would NOT recommend said “NAS” device.

  33. Flash0714

Love having a cloud server to pull files from anywhere that has internet. Easy to set up and use.

  34. WaynemR

upgraded my home cloud storage to this and works great.

  35. Farouk

Used it for about a 3 month now. It was a breeze to set up. I currently have dual 8 T WD Red HDD’s installed,

  36. Icast9

Awesome device , once you get it setup . I recommend getting the one with hard drive already in it . I had an old mycloud mirror that was out dated , I figured i would take my old hard drives and just put them in the new one and it would work. Nope, not the way it works, you had to re format them to be recognized by the new EX2. What I had to do was buy a new Nas 2tb hard drive and with one of the old hard drive from the old my cloud and format them in the new EX2 . Once everthing was good and I then put the old my cloud with the one drive, with all my data on the network and copied everything to the new Ex2. Took all day . But now my data is safe . Hope this helps

  37. DamonN

Way above expectations. Fast, easy to install SATA drives, insanely easy setup. I bought this as an upgrade/replacement for a WD Mycloud Mirror (10yrs old), with a failing drive. I also purchased two new 14tb red pro drives. Popped the drives in according to the instructions, plugged it in and folllwed the 4 line instructions to get it up and running. As close to plug and play as is possible with this kind of setup. The OS 5 busybox linux installed, doesnt have the 16TB limitation of the My Cloud Mirror, so I was able to partition and present the full 28TB to my network. Took 4 days to transfer all the data from my old system, but it is 2-3x faster than the system it is replacing. I may actually buy another one to replace the old backup system that I use.

  38. Matt

Does what it’s supposed to do. Does everything as described

  39. John

I bought this to replace my aging MyCloud that surprisingly has lasted over 10 years and was running out of space. I picked up two WD Red 12TB HDDs on sale to pair with this. Setup was easy and only took a few minutes. The included software guides you through the entire process and lets you know about applications that the NAS can run natively. The longest part of the process for me was configuring the drives in RAID0. Everything runs smoothly and I have no complaints about it. It even runs my Plex server and is able to handle 4k videos with zero stutters or other issues.

  40. Eblack

Great products have been able to save a lot of data

  41. reviewer95134

I chose this server for functionality and found out later how fast it is compared to others in its price range. I love things that just work, even if I accidentally kick the power cord out.

  42. Darknicholas

Was warned about this product, not simple at all. You have down load updates and even more updates. Way to much to go through and my drives didn’t work well with.

  43. AidanF

This is a great NAS device. The cloud capabilities are a massive plus. The web management is presented in a way that is easy for the average person to understand. I needed to update the firmware before cloud access was able to be turned on, this wasn’t clear in the directions.

  44. JimB

The item I ordered doesn’t work as specified! It is supposed to be plug and play, I plugged it and it don’t play!!!

  45. Ipadpro

Very nice device, i was delighted with it setup with dual writing, so both disks had the same data. However, frequent hacking attempts caused me to shut it down, sadly.

  46. SamB

Great product! Perfectly working so far…easy to configure and setup. Quiet and quick to backup and restore. Definitely recommend!

  47. WayneO

Easy to set up and I am very pleased with the performance. Set it as a NAS it is the central storage place for all of the devices in the house.

  48. Arcticwynd

You can easily turn this into a 40 TB NAS by adding 2 x 20 TB drives. This thing is very reliable, easy to use and set up as well as being able to host all manner of servers and applets including Plex (which I use to stream my music collection because I’m old). The only downside to the WD cloud series NAS is their penchant for running fast fans every night when they decide to index the heck out of everything on the drives. There have been some times when it restarted b/c of overheating. Since then I’ve change where it sits (off the carpet and on a plane surface) and I put a 120 mm usb fan on top of it as a vent to keep moving air. Since then, it has been silent (or nearly). You can get USB fans for very little and use them on stuff like this or your desktop pc if they have a perforated roof on the case etc. I highly recommend them.

  49. JS28

Honestly at the price point this is one of the best options out there. The MyCloudOS system works amazingly well, the connectivity and stability of the unit itself is unmatched.

  50. BlueHeathen

Unit works well and was easy to setup. It lacks high speed ethernet (2.5 ot 10gb). Unit can support raid5 with an additional usb drive.
