    Usually buy my filters from best buy but after purchasing this last time, i have not been able to drink the water, not sure if it’s from the filter or the water itself but did not have this problem until installing the new filter. it has a really bad taste and smells like chlorine.. some days are better than others but for the most part is bad 90% off the time.

    In the details and reviews for my recent purchase of a GE Refrigerator, it stated that a Water Filter did NOT come with the Refrigerator, but in fact, it did. I purchased this but did not need it for the installation. I am not upset as I have a ready spare. The water filter works very well and I feel confident drinking directly from the refrigerator now.

    Does the water out of my fridge taste good? Sure. Do I think this filter is doing a good job? Yes. Why 4 star? It’s ridiculously overpriced at $54.99. The filter has RFID chip that IDs the filter to the refrigerator, making the filter proprietary and unavailable from 3rd party sellers. There are some “hacks” to remove the RFID chip from a RPWFE filter and affix it to a RPWF filter or generic replacement. Who has time for that?

    You can get it from Best Buy for about 20% off using their subscription service, but that’s still overpriced to me.

    Learned my lesson. I used a filter that wasn’t GE. You can really taste the difference. Must be the quality of the materials that make it filter properly, I have no accurate response BUT! the tase is different. It might be more expensive but it’s s worth it, like i said, lesson.
