This is a fun product and very compact when not in use but the item keeps disconnecting in the middle of game play.
I really want to like this but even after customer support help it still won’t stay connected to my phone other than that I really liked the device.

The Turtle Beach Atom Controller for iPhone is a pretty neat gadget. I had never used a gaming accessory for my iPhone but do play a fair amount of games on it so thought it was worth checking out. The packaging is nice and secure for shipping. The blue color scheme looks sleek. Putting my phone in it was a breeze, no issues there, even with my case on! I have the iPhone 13, but this is compatible with several later versions of iPhone so check yours! This connects to your phone with Bluetooth, seamlessly in my case. There’s an app to help you find compatible games. Once you find a game you want to play, it detects the controller and asks if you’d like to use it. Just say yes! From there you can explore the buttons, have fun figuring out what they do and play away! Little lights let you know when the controller is on, when it’s synced, and when it’s charging or needs charging. Overall super simple setup that worked right out of the box. For charging you need to slide the pieces together, they link right up, and plug it in. This is a fun gadget, I could see lots of younger people really having fun with it.

Mobile gaming on a smartphone has almost completely replaced portable gaming consoles. The games are fun and the graphics and gameplay rival the best consoles, but smartphones aren’t comfortable to hold for long gaming sessions and touching the screen isn’t the same as mashing buttons or thumbing a joystick.

This Turtle Beach Atom is like a traditional game console controller split in half and designed to attach to your smartphone to basically turn it into a powerful mobile gaming console. The two halves are wirelessly connected together with low-latency wireless and the pair pairs to your phone via Bluetooth. Each half clamps to and of your phone and when assembled, is much more comfortable to hold and much easier to game with.

    Pros:
    * Very comfortable to hold for long gaming sessions.
    * Very lightweight so minimal additional heft to your phone.
    * The two halves are pre-linked together via low-latency wireless.
    * The two halves pair easily to your phone via Bluetooth as one device.
    * All of the expected buttons in the right places with great button feel.
    * Both halves nest together for more compact storage.
    * Long battery life.
    * Tons of compatible games.
    * Both halves turn off automatically when docked together.
    * Both halves charge off one USB-C cable connection.

    Cons:
    * Have to remember to turn on each half independently – auto-on would be nice when separated.
    * The charging status LED is on opposite sides of the controllers when docked, so you can’t see both without flipping the docked set around.
    * Barely fits a Pro Max iPhone with the thinnest of cases.
    * The controller status/configuration app isn’t designed for larger iPhones.

    Setup:
First-time setup couldn’t be much easier. With the two parts docked together as they come out of the box, just plug in the single USB-C cable and wait for them to charge fully. When docked, they magnetically stick together and charge together. There is a status LED on each half that turns green when each is charged. These LEDs are on the bottom edge of each half which is convenient when they are attached to your phone. However, when charging them, the controllers are inverted and stacked so that these LEDs are now on opposite sides while they’re being charged. This means that while charging, you kinda have to flip the whole thing around to see both lights on opposite sides of the docked set. Not a huge deal, but it would have been more convenient to have the lights visible from the same side while the pair is being charged. Either way, it’s still great that you can charge the pair with a single cable.

Once both halves are charged, unplug the cable and separate them. You can’t turn them on when docked which is great so they don’t turn on and discharge when docked for storage. Turn on each half by holding the Home button to power on the left half and the Menu button to turn on the right half. The two halves pair to each other automatically, so you just have to pair the combined “controller” to your iPhone. Once on, press the Bluetooth button to put the controller in pairing mode and do the usual on your phone to connected to it. That’s it – done!

You can install the optional App from Turtle Beach to upgrade the controller’s firmware, check each half’s battery status, check and adjust the various dead zones, etc…

Now is time to mount the controller to your phone. I have a huge iPhone 15 Pro Max with an ultra-thin case installed. Each half of the controller has a spring-loaded clamp to hold your phone in place, but your phone has to fit within the edges of the case. My huge phone just barely fit, but smaller phones will probably fit fine. If needed, the controller came with optional rubber pads of two different thicknesses to better hold onto thinner phones or those not in cases. I wouldn’t say that it’s quick and easy to slide the controllers onto your phone, but you get used to it and provided you don’t pull them apart while gaming, they stay on pretty solidly.

    Usage:
With the controller docked together for storage, just pull them apart to get ready to game. They don’t turn on automatically, but they do turn off automatically when re-docked at the end of your gaming session. Slide each end onto your phone and make sure the ends are secured in place. Then hold the Home and Menu buttons to turn each half on. They’ll reconnect to each other and then to your phone. Start your favorite game and play away!

The contoured grips felt much more comfortable to hold while gaming than holding just the phone itself. The buttons are in the same arrangement that you’re used to from console gaming and everything is within reach. Battery life is rated at about 20 hours of play time which is amazing given how lightweight they are.

I play several of the compatible games for hours and found that the controllers made my phone much easier to hold and way easier to control. Again, be careful not to pull them outward to separate them as they will easily pull off your phone and you could end up dropping your phone. I had no issues with slight twisting of the controllers while really getting into the game, but be mindful that the two halves are only attached to your phone by spring-loaded clamps.

When you’re done gaming, just pull off each half, invert and dock them together again. They’ll magnetically attach to each other and both halves will turn off automatically. Pop the pair in the provided travel bag or plug them in to charge for next time.

    Overall:
If you enjoy mobile gaming sessions longer than 15 minutes or are tired of tapping the screen to play, this mobile gaming controller for iPhones is totally worth it. Not only does it make holding your phone for gaming a ton more comfortable, but the physical buttons make playing the game that much more fun and more like a standard console. The only things I noted that needed improvement were small things to make it that much better, but nothing prevents me from recommending it. Provided your phone fits (most will as long as they’re not both the largest phone in a thick case), this controller will turn your smartphone into a competitive mobile console.

The Turtle Beach Atom mobile gaming controller offers a compact and ergonomic design that enhances the mobile gaming experience. Its responsive buttons and customizable controls make gameplay smooth and enjoyable. The built-in rechargeable battery ensures long gaming sessions, while Bluetooth connectivity eliminates the need for wires. The controller’s compatibility is great because if you have a lighting port iphone or new USB-C iphone 15, this controller works because its bluetooth. Overall, the Turtle Beach Atom is a solid choice for mobile gamers seeking improved control and comfort on the go. I use the controller for Call of Duty Mobile and it’s awesome.

  6. Eric

I never realized how much having controls off screen for my phone would improve the gaming experience. When Apple announced a focus on gaming with the iPhone 15 line, I wanted to see how it might feel to make my phone a proper portable gaming console. The Turtle Beach Atom is a real cool concept. It essentially makes your phone/device a platform similar to another popular gaming console out there. It connects via Bluetooth. Initially I thought it might be clunky connecting, because it’s two pieces that slide on the ends of your phone. Both pieces have to be powered up, and once you have both on, there is a BT button that you hold to begin pairing it with your phone. You go into the settings to do the pairing, similar to any other BT device, and it’s connected. At that point, it’s a seamless connecting experience. It includes all typical controls, a D-pad, two sticks, A/B/X/Y, two left and two right triggers, a home button, and two contextual buttons. My model is for the iPhone, and it seems the Turtle Beach website has various colors and units that accommodate other types of phones and devices. I tried this with Arcade games as well as cloud gaming with Xbox. Both worked well, buttons will work if the game supports it. So on the Arcade game it was pretty simple, but when I was cloud gaming it was a full console experience. Very enjoyable. When you aren’t using it, the Atom tucks into itself and magnetically closes so you can travel with it compactly. It’s the size of a small controller. That’s also how you charge the pieces, there is a USB-C to USB-A cable with it and a single port on one of the pieces. A light tells you the charging status and also when it’s connecting via BT. The only thing I didn’t like about this experience was that it won’t accommodate most cases. A very thin case will probably fit, but I have a pretty thin case on my phone and I feel like I need to remove it to have a secure attachment. So if you use a bulky case, this will probably require you to remove it. Otherwise, this is a really fun accessory for your phone.

I picked this up when I saw it was compatible with the Playstation Remote Play app. Controller works good, the Sony app unfortunately can be laggy or suffer from screen freeze depending on the quality of your internet connection but that’s not the fault of this controller. I didn’t experience lag between the controller and my device, it made the cars in Horizon Chase much easier to control than the touchscreen of the phone. I tried it with the mobile version of a popular FPS, but I really struggled with aiming. I had downloaded the Atom app so I could tune the sticks and that helped a little but it still felt awkward having the D pad below the left stick.
The controller works with more games than what’s on their website list. On some games you need to navigate to settings and select gamepad as the control type before you play.
Not a fan of the clamping system yet, it’s too small to fit over my phone case (Otterbox Defender) even without adding any of the fit pads. It does clamp tight enough that it will stay on the phone at least but it’s not fully locked in.
It’s very compact when clipped together for charging and comes with a drawstring travel pouch.

I received the Turtle Beach Atom iOS Game Controller for Apple Phones, seems to be well made, quality build that is sturdy, portable, and stylish. It is compact and lightweight, takes up little space. It comes in its own little storage bag. Both ends of the controller easily slot into one another, making transport easy and efficient.

Setting it up took minutes, as all you had to do was charge the device and then pair it with the phone via Bluetooth. After this, it was ready to go for repeated use, for up to 20 hours. It charges up quickly, too, going from empty to full in approximately two and a half hours.

The Bluetooth connectivity also ensures that there’s a stable connection to your device at all times. This prevents any mid-game freezes and noticeable input delay.

There is also an Atom compatibility app which allows you to easily customize your controller, tweaking stick responses, dead zones, and helping to ensure that it’s up to date with the latest firmware.

Overall, this is a nice and fun on the go gaming device to use with your phone.

The Turtle Beach Atom comes in a nice small package.
You get the controller, USB C charge cable, and instructions.
You can download the app and adjust sticks. I found no need for any adjustments. My iPhone 13 Pro Max with a slim style case fits very well in between the left and right controller sides.
You power on the right side first then the left side (press the Bluetooth button to sync with your phone on first use), and off to gaming. (If you power on the left side first, I found out it would not sync with the right side after and had to power off both and start with the right side then left and all was perfect and has been since).
When playing COD, I found the controller to fit very well in my hands and perform outstanding.
    Battery life seems quite good.
There are lots of buttons and two thumb sticks, also left and right front trigger buttons.

I played some RaymanMini and also like COD (
call of duty) the buttons performed right on.

I also love how the two halves go together, you flip one side upside down and inset the two sides together, there are magnets to hold the halves together.

Overall, a great little accessory for any iPhone owner who enjoys playing games. It basically turns your iPhone into a hand held gaming system. It’s works perfectly, but isn’t perfectly designed as I can’t use it with my iPhone 15 Pro Max in a case – that is partially Apple’s fault as the camera bump makes it hard to be designed around. But it out of the case, it will work with that phone and so accommodates all sizes of the iPhone. The integration is seamless and the controls are responsive. And the overall design is very smart and makes it easily portable.

Starting with the design of the controller itself, when not in use the two sides connect to each other for travel as well as charging. It’s a super brilliant design and makes the device very compact for easy transportation. This also allows both sides to charge with one cord which is great! To use with your phone the two sides pull apart and you slide your phone into one side and then the other – this is the only imperfection as the large iPhones with a case like mine won’t fit due to the camera bump and cases usually having a raised bezel to protect the cameras, but it’s not that hard to take my phone out of the case to put into the controller and it does work that way just fine ever with my large Pro Max phone.

Once the phone is in, you long press the home button on the left controller and the menu button on the right controller to power them on and then your good to go. The controls all worked perfectly with the several Apple Arcade games I’ve used them with and they fit nicely in my hands basically giving the same experience as using a Nintendo Switch in handheld mode. One advantage of this style over others that have a single controller and a hovering phone holder is that the weight of the phone is better distributed between your two hands which makes it super comfortable to use and hold.

I do wish they could have come up with a way to make this fit my phone without having to take it out of the case, but I can also appreciate how difficult that might be with such a large phone, and that is really the only negative of this otherwise very well designed game controller. It works great and is very responsive with no lag and takes game play on the iPhone to a new level!

I’ll give you my opinion on mobile gaming, I usually play something where the controls are fairly simple and so is the gameplay. Why? Because anything advanced or mirrors console gaming is rather difficult to do on mobile and if not done right it is just not enjoyable.
Now if you have something like the Turtle Beach Atom this is a game changer and makes mobile gaming a whole lot better in my opinion. Having this connected to my phone I feel like I have a whole new gaming system at my fingertips.
It has made games like Call of Duty that much enjoyable.
The Turtle Beach Atom consists of two pieces. The left and right lock into one another magnetically and when charging and makes it compact to store. It comes with a USB-C charging cable, two sets of grip pads and a carry/storage pouch. You can use the grip pads to stick on each side of the Atom to adjust to your phones size/model. I used the thicker set on the Atom to fit my iPhone 13 Pro and it fits perfectly snug. Turtle Beach claims to have a battery life of twenty hours. I have played many sessions without having to charge the Atom but not enough to test the 20 hours but I am confident it can do that.
When it comes to build quality I would say it feels a little cheap and is mainly plastic. The D-pad fell worse than an original Nintendo controller but most games don’t require use of it anyways. The joysticks do feel go though and they kind of surprised me for something of this size. The shoulder buttons and triggers do feel cheap. Beside those things I really do like the Atom for what it does to help me enjoy mobile games a lot more than I used too.

The Turtle Beach – Atom iOS Game Controller for Apple Phones brings handheld gaming to the iPhone at last. With the Atom iOS Game Controller, bring old and new school gaming to your favorite phone, without the need for a separate gaming system. Offering all the expected features such as 4-button and + directional controls and 2 rocker thumb sticks similar to the most popular gaming consoles, you will be at home in your gaming environment immediately as you challenge your favorite App Store games or others from around the world. Get a unique advantage over those using their phone screens as you masterfully navigate levels and challenges with precision.

I found this controller to be acceptable, but it has several issues that made it frustrating to use initially. First, you must use a thin case or no case for your phone to be securely held for gaming. Forget using this if you require bulky protection similar to Otter cases. The setup is based on Bluetooth or NFC connectivity, so you will need to ensure you have downloaded the app and set up the phone for use before putting in the controller or you will be fumbling the whole time.

    PROS
    – Turtle Beach brand, quality, and innovation
    – Quality built and solid for comfortable gaming
    – Magnetic and self-contained for storage ensure easy on-the-go portability
    – Familiar setup ensures most players will be ready to play
    – Long battery life

    CONS
    – Will not work with bulky cases and phone will need to be removed to use
    – Initial setup requires downloads and settings, not plug and play
    – Will not charge your phone while using

  13. Scott S

This is a solid, compact controller design. It’s nearly perfect for its intended use, but comes with a couple of caveats.

First off, it’s well built. I wasn’t completely sold on its design in product images, but in person it feels good in hand, with beefy grips to make playing more comfortable, especially for adults. The copper details also look a lot better than the shiny strips shown in the product images. Turtle Beach also made a great design choice in giving this split controller a single charge port and in allowing the two halves to connect to charge both sides at once. This is great in practice, after all, the fact that they nest allows them to stay compact and ready for a road trip or the like.

Once your phone is clamped inside, it feels pretty solid, giving the impression of a true game console, albeit one somewhat limited by the offerings in the App Store, and possibly cloud gaming. Many mobile games are designed for touch and touch alone, but there are hidden gems and console games that have made it their way to mobile and enabled bluetooth control schemes – but it’s not quite the same as a console and their dedicated game offerings. I felt this limitation, but that doesn’t stop this controller from doing its job well. If you have a preferred game that’s controller ready, this is a great option. It’s especially hard to beat dedicated controls for 3D games. Racing in Asphalt 9 is far more immersive and far less finicky, for example.

Putting the screen in the center makes a big difference, forming a fairly solid impression of a singular gaming system that feels more natural than other setups – whether that be with a phone stand or simply propping up a phone and using a secondary controller. In my case, however, I was not able to use my iPhone 14 Pro Max in its case, which was a drawback for sure. The issue is that the camera bump is thick enough that one edge usually ends up less supported. It’s doable, but not perfect. Removing the case gives a solid grip with no issue, it’s just a shame to have to remove a case each use. Turtle Beach includes pads to accommodate various thicknesses, but for iPhones, they are already so thick (at the camera bump) that it seems simply too tight with a case, even without using any of these pads.

Overall, this controller can really make mobile gaming feel fresh and fun again, but you’ll need to know that your preferred types of games are available with gamepad support, as many are touch centric. It opens doors, but with iPhone, you may not be able to play with your case on.

    Good Stuff:
    – Nicely built, solid design
    – Grips are great size for extended gameplay
    – Compact, nesting design w/ single charge port for charging
    – Securely fits iPhones (outside of case)
    – Centrally located screen is the ideal placement

    Less than Good Stuff:
    – Could not fit my iPhone with silicone case on
    – Availability of games with controller support is not as broad as consoles, varies by genre and preferences and can limit value

Unboxing this unit I was immediately impressed with how the controllers are designed. It came in a storage bag which I thought was going to be really helpful when taking this controller places. It also connects to each other to make a smaller profile making it much easier to store. It’s compact enough to make you consider even pocketing it, but truthfully I don’t think you could for a long duration. But it would easily fit in a small satchel or a sling bag that many are using nowadays.

This was my 1st mobile gaming controller and I have to say, it was a huge difference. Using touchpad to game, I usually got tired and uncomfortable making me stop after a little while. With this Atom, I could play longer and with a lot less hand and finger fatigue. The unit itself charges by usb-c and connects via bluetooth. Pretty straightforward. I love the ergonomics of the controller. It felt super comfortable in my medium size man hands. All the buttons felt good as well. Nothing felt cluttered or too close, although, it doesn’t fell like a regular gaming controller. What I mean is, although it works well and feels comfortable, I wouldn’t replace my ps5 controller with this. Battery life so far has been very good from what I can tell. I don’t use this for hours on end so I can’t say exactly how long a charge last for. For any mobile gaming, especially on a cell phone, this is a definite must have. It makes gaming much more enjoyable.

  15. ObiRob

Gaming on the go has never been stylish. From its compact interlocking stored design (complete with storage bag) to the detailed paint scheme, the Turtle Beach Atom offers an almost perfect experience when it comes to mobile gaming. In my hands the controls have a soft yet sturdy plastic that will hold up to hours of play. The buttons are very responsive and the sticks are quick and light. Charging is easy and relatively fast with a very good battery life and amazingly simple setup with Bluetooth. The only caveat I have is the phone fit. The controller comes with pads for size adjustment for phones in cases and out. However even with a relatively thin MagSafe case on my iPhone I find it difficult to fit in the controller in a way that feels secure. So I have resorted to taking it out of the case to play. Once I do that it does seem to increase the feel to be more secure. For this I’m subtracting a star from the review. As versatility should be taken into account when buying one of these. Your results may vary depending on your phone case or lack there of. But other than that this case really does work very well. I would recommend it to people as long as they understand that the case on their phone may hinder the fit of the phone between the controllers.

  16. NateN

First, this review is taken from the mindset of my 12 year old daughter, who is a gamer. This is a great addition to anyone who uses their phone for some heavy gaming. It attaches well, but not perfectly, to an iPhone 13 Pro Max with a case installed. There are two included rubber pads with various thicknesses that are included in the packaging. These can be used to help keep the phone sitting comfortably within the controllers. My daughter tested out these remotes while playing Roblox and had no issue. To be honest, she hasn’t used it that often since testing probably because kids like to just pick up a phone and game ASAP or they don’t always want to carry an extra accessory when they are out and about. However, I am sure there are some out there that have 10 seconds of patience to attach the controllers for a more immersive experience. I personally steer clear of mobile gaming at times because I hate using touch controls and I lose sight of what is going on because my fingers are constantly on the screen. For me, an adult gamer, works perfectly as if I am playing a Switch on my phone.

A negative feature that I think needs to be pointed out is that there are two versions of these controllers. One is for iOS devices and the other is for Android devices. Many households, like mine, have both iPhone and Android phones. It would be great if we only had to buy one ATOM controller for all to share. I tried the iOS version of the controllers on my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Android phone and the joysticks were inverted. For example, when I wanted to walk forward in Roblox, the character walked backwards. I contacted Turtle Beach customer service and they said I would need to buy the Android version. That was disappointing as I am sure this is just a software issue and should allow a switch in the setting to say if you are using iOS or Android.

Overall, I do recommend these but make sure you get the correct version for your phone.

The Turtle Beach Atom iOS Game Controller for Apple Phones is a nice device for gaming on my iPhone device.
I was not sure how easy it would be to setup, but the controller was very easy and simple to setup. The instructions were easy to follow and very intuitive The controller had no problems fitting the size of my iPhone and it paired very easily. When the phone is placed inside of the controller the plastic backing of the controller is in contact with my camera lens. I’m not sure if my camera lens would get scratched, so I take extra precautions when placing my phone inside of the controller. When the phone is inside of the controller there is no way to charge your phone. When playing ROBLOX I found myself having to reconnect the controller after leaving a game for less than a minute and returning to the game. I’m not sure if it was an issue with my phone’s battery life, but I did not come across this problem when playing Sky: Children of the Light. It’s surprising how responsive the controller is considering it’s connecting to my phone over a bluetooth connection. Overall, I honestly love it and will continue to use it.

  18. charliehustle77

To start off, the Turtle Beach Atom iOS controller feels well built and has a slick design. I’m still rocking with a iphone 12 pro max for a few more days till my 15 gets here and it fit perfectly inside the Atom even with the case and finger ring on the back. I see other reviews saying that their iphone didn’t fit with the case, I guess mine is just thin enough to make it work. Nothing felt awkward or crooked when i put it in with the case on, it felt very secure.

I like this device because I do not need to plug it in to my phones charging port, it uses bluetooth instead. This makes it perfect for future use with USB-c apple devices since lightning port is going away. I do wish there was a way for me to use this on my ipad. I guess i could just hook it to the ipad and use a phone as a spacer and it would work just fine.

I played a few games of COD, Madden and played with my kid on Roblox for a bit and never had any issues. Using hand held devices for mobile games almost feels like a cheat code on some games because you’re not using the screen to play. Charging went relatively fast, just a few hours to charge up completely from dead. There are two sides to this controller but you can slide them together for easy storage and carrying with the enclosed soft carrying case.

I recommend this device to anyone looking to up their phone gaming with a really cool device that’s portable and looks cool.

  19. JediPy

This was really easy to setup, it took a little bit to figure out how each side fits together for travel/charging, which is why I only gave 4 stars. Even with the instructions it was a little difficult after applying the grips based on whether your phone has a case or not.

But after that and after charging it, I was able to connect it to my iPhone without issue and start using it to play games via Bluetooth. Overall, the controller is highly responsive and the battery lasts a long time. The indicator light is also intuitive in terms of connection status and you can also open the game center up and use the controllers there as well.

Overall, the controller is a great addition to any iPhone to play pretty much any game that supports a controller. I highly recommend for even the casual gamer, but definitely for the serious gamer. Once setup, it works like a charm and also enhances the gameplay experience. The button layout is also similar to console games so there was no learning curve and I was gaming right away!

  20. kcdragon

I got this more on a whim than as a wonton desire and I honestly wasn’t sure what the entire point of it was. But after hooking it up, following the directions, and using it for a little while I get the point and there’s definitely a place for this.
It comes in a small box and comes with everything you need including a charging cable and a carrying bag. The left and right side of the controller slide into each other making it very portable. The plastic is hard and firm so it doesn’t feel cheap or fragile. I don’t worry about damaging it though time will tell.
Inserting the iPhone into it is simple enough. It has adjustable sliding grips to accommodate different sizes of phones. I have the 14 Plus and it fits just fine. However, I have a small form case and it does not fit snugly into the controller. It is loose and wonky and causes issues when playing an intense game. As I try to quickly dodge, parry, thrust the controller comes loose and slows me down. I took the phone out of the case and it works better, but it’s still not as solid as I’d like. It does come with rubber footings to help prevent the phone from sliding, and those work, but even they do not help it from twisting.
Each side has a power button, which feels kind of weird to have to turn them on independent of each other, but they light to let you know they’re on. They synch to each other without user interaction. There is a single Bluetooth button to connect it to the phone and it was very easy to link them. I didn’t have any issues linking or keeping them synched.
I started searching for compatible games, but it was a hassle on the app store. Luckily, Turtle Beach has an app and one of the options in it is to show a list of compatible apps. I used this and found quite a plethora of options. I’m sure not all of them are listed, but plenty to keep you busy.
Speaking of the app, it has a nice calibration utility and a sensitivity bar. It can show you the dead zones, response of the L and R stick as well as the power left in the battery. It’s a nice, clean app that is actually useful and non-intrusive.
The D-pad works okay, but I don’t use it enough to really give much feedback on it. The L and R sticks are a little iffy in my opinion. I can be running full out, having the sticks pressed to max, and then the character will start walking like I’ve lessened the pressure on it. However, if I release it and then press it up again the character runs. And that is common with multiple apps so it’s not just a bad game or two.
While I love actually being able to play some iPhone games with a true controller, the floppyness of the controller with the phone and the issues with the sticks prevent me from saying it’s a great piece of hardware. I also don’t understand why they didn’t use a plug to go into the iPhone and use it’s power as an option as that would have helped secure the controller and phone as well.
The reaction time is fast enough for the games I play so I’m guessing it’s adequate for most mobile games.

It works fine with my Apple IPhone 14 Plus. There are so many games that are fun to play on the IPhone nowadays. One that I have used the turtle beach atom IOS and have had tremendous success and enjoy the game so much more is monster hunter which is a fun game that came out around a month ago. Keep in mind some games might not work (longways) and would not benefit as much from the Atom. Getting back on track this does make my iPhone feel so much more like a gaming machine. The feel of the thumb pads and directional buttons are excellent and feel sturdy. No lag encountered or issues with speed that I noticed at least.
I liked it a lot, but won’t say it’s a must buy. If you are someone that gets fed up with the apple screen and want an advantage in gaming on IOS games it’s very much worth it. But if you are a casual player that doesn’t care that much then it’s gonna be an individual decision on purchasing it or not. For me at least I find it easy to put on and with certain games I enjoy it.

Turtle Beach Atom iOS game controller for Apple phones Cobalt Blue is a great addition to enhance gameplay on the iPhone. I found myself playing and enjoying them constantly. Games that usually didn’t have fun factor are now a lot better. Many titles were much more enjoyable with this gamepad.
Set up is pretty easy with nothing but Bluetooth and a compatible game, then you’re off and going. Everything you need to get you going comes included in the box. A charging cable and spacers for better fit. I was killing it on Call of Duty and many other titles with even more fun factor with this. And when not be used, it stores very compact and transportable.
Bluetooth setup through Your IPhone [model 11 and higher], and you’re on your way. Battery life is pretty impressive estimated at around 20 hours. And the spacers included make it fit firmly. I noticed a loss of Bluetooth connection occasionally, but it was not that annoying. Atom is one you want to check out. Many colors available as well.

This is plenty serviceable as a game controller. Buttons and joysticks are responsive and comfortable. It syncs up quickly with the phone and there is zero lag to the game response. It’s annoying but understandable that you have to turn on each half separately, but they conveniently slot together when not in use both to save space and facilitate charging. When they’re joined up, they make an electrical connection so you can charge both halves with one plug. It charged fairly quickly and I had no issue with running out of power. So as long as you have the right size phone, this makes a great gaming accessory. On the other hand, if you have an iPhone 14 pro in an Apple silicon case, it’s not going to fit so well. If you wedge the phone into the clip on the left side, you can make it work, but it won’t feel quite secure, just a teeny bit off. It’s mostly the camera lens bump that creates the problem. If it wasn’t for that additional thickness, it would work fine. Ironically, it comes with two different sized sets of pads, so if your phone is too *thin*, you can make it fit better. I obviously did not try or need to use those. So I made it work, and it functions great, it just doesn’t fit quite right.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the Turtle Beach Atom. My friends have iOS controllers from other brands, and I was able to compare it somewhat to them – every controller set has its own strengths and drawbacks, and the Atom is no exception.
I grew up playing multiple types of vintage consoles, and the Atom’s feel in hand is surprisingly lightweight for its size. It’s not cheap per se – given how much modern iPhones can weigh, it makes sense that the controllers do not try to add any additional heft for long playing sessions. It’s bigger than you might expect, especially for the iPhone 13 Mini I use, but doesn’t feel dense or heavy like a Gamecube or XBox controller. It’s more akin to an SNES controller weight. It is much larger than a SNES controller, though – you will not feel like you’re playing a Switch here.
A HUGE strength of this controller design is its ability to accommodate cases, which I deeply appreciate. This in itself also represents a drawback, in that it achieves this ability by having the controllers fit snugly around the phone separately and connect via Bluetooth as opposed to a physical Lightning or USB-C connection. (Conveniently also sidesteps the iPhone’s transition to USB-C this year.)
It’s not the pairing process that is the issue – I don’t mind activating each individual part of the controller before using it – it’s actually more the loss of the direct connection, which results in two issues. First, no passthrough charging, which can unfortunately negate the comfortable feel-in-hand, as you can’t really settle in for long gaming sessions with a Mini or year-old iPhone given its poor battery capacity since you have to baby it and the controller partially blocks the Magsafe connection on the back of my Mini 13.
But it also runs into an issue where, because the two halves have to establish a direct connection, the device will sometimes unexpectedly power down if left idle for a small period of time – small as in, say, a long cutscene from Genshin Impact. This requires you to power back on both halves and reconnect them. This could be a dealbreaker for you, especially if what you play requires critical ability to react at a moment’s notice. For me, someone who spends most of their time playing RPGs, it’s more an annoyance than an issue, but it is also something others noticed when using the original Android version of this controller and I was surprised to see it still occurred with the iOS release. Perhaps this is something that could be addressed via a firmware update. Turtle Beach advertises an iOS app that was to be released in September 2023 to complement the controller. I didn’t have this app available when I first received the controller, and it’s now been released in October. It’s very barebones, and the Power Management section of the app simply shows the iPhone’s remaining battery life. Perhaps the ability to add power management options for automatic power down may yet be added in the future?
Overall, I like the controller. There are some strengths about it (case support) that may honestly put it securely above any of the other major, comparably priced contenders in this field. But it does have some drawbacks that I think are important to recognize. If these aren’t too bothersome to you, I think you’ll really appreciate the Atom.

Mobile gaming is a somewhat neglected segment in the gaming industry. Quite often mobile gaming is limited to simpler games. And AAA games which are ported to mobile gaming are often limited to the lack of controls especially when phones nowadays barely have any buttons. One such solution is to add a game controller designed for mobile device. But the problem with most mobile game controllers is they tend to be big. The Turtle Beach Atom Controller is one such solution.

The Turtle Beach Atom Controller is a blue tooth powered mobile game controller. It is charged via USB – C cable wherein a cable is also provided. What separates this device from other mobile game controllers is that it is modular making it compact when not in use thereby making it a portable accessory. It is joined magnetically making it compact. But once separated it fits into both ends of your phone. Please note that this version is for the iPhone. And though it i connected via Bluetooth, there is no guaranty that it would work on Android devices.

Once paired and attached to my iPhone 13 Pro, I tried it with several mobile games. First is that most games will connect automatically like with Asphalt 9. But I’ve noted that there might be some control issues. And for games such as Call of Duty, I am of the understanding that it works only in multiplayer mode. So your mileage may vary.

As for the keys in the Atom Controller, all the keys usually found in gaming controllers are there and the tactility is quite similar too. Overall, the Atom Controller makes sure that your mobile gaming experience is as fun as possible. I would recommend this.

This is a great bluetooth connected controller for your iphone. We got this for our son as he likes to play video games more than we do. It connected to his iphone with no issues, he then downloaded the app that Turtle Beach offers, which allows you to upgrade the controller’s firmware, check each half’s battery status, check and adjust the various dead zones, find compatible games, etc. He did have to remove his iphone case as this controller won’t attach to the iphone with his case attached. Once configured, he was able to download several games that take advantage of having a controller attached. He really liked the feel of the joysticks and the button placement. We went on a long road trip and he would play games for a couple of hours at a time and not get any fatigue from the controller. It’s nice how the two halves nest together for charging and also for storage in the included bag. It is charged with a USB C cable which most of us have nowadays. This is his first game controller and he really likes it and he says that he is playing more games on his iphone than before. A great buy!

Gamers! This one is for you!

I tested out the apple version but there is also an android version depending on what cell phone you have. I do recommend taking your phone case off to use this device to get a better fit. I tested it after doing a full charge. I did not have any issues while using this controller. The Bluetooth connection was perfect and seamless to get the initial connection done. I did not have any issues with connectivity while using it or reconnecting.

This controller is for apple iphone 11 and up. I have the iPhone 13 pro and it fits fine. The unit feels like a real controller and fits comfortably in my hand. Ergonomically it feels just like a real controller. My hands were comfortable for hours without getting cramped. It is also very light so I didn’t get tired from playing and it was easy to throw in my bag on the go.

Battery life is great. It lasts for roughly 20 hours on a charge which is more than enough playing time. The device snaps together making it one piece for charging or storage.

This is the controller you want if you want to game on your phone. The selection of the games you can use it with is not vast, but it’s not bad. The iPhone Mini and standard size both fit with a variety of cases, but if they are too thick, it doesn’t fit securely. My iPhone Pro Max fit very well with no case and a thin case. The bluetooth was a great advantage over plugging a controller into it, and the connection was solid and didn’t seem to glitch. With no case, or a case that has MagSafe, you can charge the standard and max iPhones, but charging the Mini didn’t work for me.

I like the feel of the buttons and D-pad. I prefer a little less movement in the joysticks. They work well though. I like how the controllers connect together for charging. The caveat is that the controller halves must be connected to charge them both. I find it a minor inconvenience. I only had them disconnect and power down once, and it was because I set the phone and controller down for a few minutes. A longer timeout might help that.

To sum up, if you have games that you can use these with, they really up the quality of game play.

The controller is pretty great for one main reason: I can leave my phone in it’s case when I use it! I don’t have to remove the case every time I put the controller on it, and I have a medium thickness case on my phone (Tech21 style). The fact that the two halves of the controller fold up to be nice and small is also a plus.

The simplicity of the app is nice; It’s just a few settings and that’s it! Also I’ve used it for about 4 hours at a time and only burned through about 10% of the controller battery each time, so it seems like it lasts a pretty long time!

The two cons are one bigger one and a small one.

The minor issue is that this controller doesn’t offer pass-through charging or headsets, so you have to use the phone speakers or a Bluetooth headset, and keep an eye on the charge. That leads to the more major issue. I bought this to play games while on the go (obviously) and so I don’t want to have everyone around me hearing the games I play. I use my Beats earbuds when I play, plus my phone is always connected to my apple watch. Because this controller is Bluetooth instead of a lighning adapter like the other ones in this category, you really can’t use any other Bluetooth devices at the same time or it makes the latency pretty noticeable. I play primarily minecraft and it’s pretty noticeable, especially when I’m being attacked lol.

Overall, as long as you charge your phone beforehand, and disconnect your other Bluetooth devices, it’s a pretty solid little controller!

Awesome product. Works well with Cloud Gaming and allows me to play anywhere.

  31. MYLEG

For starters it says for android and iphone on the box is printed for iphone however it does not stay connected to the iphone they have Q&As on the website from Turtle Beach saying this is an android only product also states its game pass friendly this is not the case not only does it not support game pass for iphone but the comtrollers legit turn off right after you conmect them and shame on Turtle Beach saying this product is iphone friendly because there website itself doesnt give the iPhone option for support seems like false advertising to me but i retured it as fast as i bought it a simple shame Turtle Beach should stick to headsets thats what there good at
