Within months of owning this TV it would pause randomly on me and restart. It got better after awhile but would do it occasionally. It has now been 13 months and the TV shows a black screen only. There is power to it and even noise, but no picture. Very unfortunate for a new TV.

Nice affordable tv. However few problems. Cant connect phone or laptop wirelessly to tv. Its hard to pair bluetooth device. Overall average peformance. Picture quality is fine, sound is adequate for the average room size, used since 1.5 years and no problems yet

I’m not happy with this purchase at all. I will not purchase this product again.The tv screen went black, performed reset protocol and it took 2 days for it to come back on. I also had to leave it on in order to watch and my husband turned it off and it never came on again.The blackout determined my opinion.

Bought the 50S446 in April of this year from Best Buy, a few weeks ago it started taking a while to show a picture on the screen, I would have to turn it off and on a few times before it worked. Last week it died, the screen flashed from black to gray with no picture, I can see the backlight on but no picture. There is a problem with this TV since so many people have the same experience.
After back and forth with TCL, they promised to replace the defective unit with a like one.

We are on our second TV and it’s died. We bought the first in July 22 and the screen died in April or May of 23. We got our second one through the manufacturer since it was less than a year and we are in December of 23 and the screen died on this one. DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL

The TV got broken after 7 months. Warranty specialists asked me to go through all the troubleshooting steps, then answer dozens of questions then take a picture of the screen. After I’d sent them a picture they asked me to make a short video with the problem (the screen went dark after a couple of minutes.) I sent them 3 videos and all of them were too big so I had to upload them on YouTube and send a link. Eventually, they wanted me to write VOID on the serial number label and send a picture again. They promised to send me a replacement and said that I could trash or dispose of the broken TV. After the reminder, they changed their mind! They decided on on-site repair. So I still have the broken TV with VOID marked serial number. Do not recommend TCL.

I bought this TV at the beginning of this year and one thing that I noticed it was slow to react to the remote control. It would also back you out of certain channels like Netflix and take you back to the home screen on its own. Then as of today lines started to show up on the bottom half of the screen and it some times blacks out and you can only hear the TV with a black screen. I wish I would have purchased a warranty now. Hope this review helps anyone when shopping for a new television.

I bought this same TV and inch from Best Buy 1 year when it start to have lines appear through the screen. About three month later the TV would black out and not show anything. It would only come on when the TV is unplugged for a while then you cut on the TV. This when on for sometime until when it went out it didn’t come back in. Since it was over a year we called TCL and customer service was horrible. You had to jump through multiple hoops just to get them to tell you what you can do or what is the cause of it. The TV was fine and was hung up the same day it was bought so we knew we haven’t damaged it. At a cheap price we though the TV would at least last 5 years instead it barely lasted a year

You pay what you get. However, I may be biased due to having bought this TV open-boxed, and my review will reflect that sentiment.
Price-wise, this is a great low-budget TV for it’s price. Colors and images were pretty neat, interface had everything I needed, and overall, was easy to figure out and use.
However, within 8 months of purchase, the screen flickered out and stayed black, despite being able to turn on and play audio. Various internet inquiries led me to figure that the backlight blew out, and that it’d take specialized care to fix it– of which, I don’t think was worth the effort or money.
If you’re looking for a cheap TV with decent imaging and maneuverability, TCL has your back if you’re willing to take the chances of possible hardware failures. But as a suggestion: save your money for something a little more expensive but not prone to problems.

I’ll start by saying I bought a 40 inch TCL tv 16 years ago for our garage. Our garage is heated by wood stove only part of the time. In mid-Michigan, most of our winters are below freezing so that tv has been hot and cold every winter for 16 years and we’ve never had a single problem. It still works perfectly. So when it came tome to purchase a new tv for the house 12 months ago, TCL was the only logical choice. What a colossal mistake. We don’t watch much tv, I haven’t turned it on in probably 10 months. My husband watches once a week or so. When I turned it on today for the grandkids, spent almost 10 minutes trying to pull up a specific movie, then got so frustrated I finally shut it off. This thing lags (not WiFi-related, the remote-response is just seriously slow), the voice commands don’t work at all, the search function is useless, and I will never own another Google platform tv. This was a huge waste of money. Had I realized it was so awful, I would have purchased a different TV this year when they were all on sale before Christmas. This thing just needs to go in the trash.

Screen looks great for the price. I recommend a sound bar since some music makes it vibrate and sound distorted. Apps work great. And I prefer Google TV over Roku or Fire. Have had a very infrequent issue where it goes into a loop of trying to load an app and starting over. But if I unplug the TV for 30 seconds, it resets and works fine.

I love this tv. The quality is great for the price. The only complaint I have is how finicky the remote it. It’s very reactive, which is great except my dogs for some reason have remote radar and always bump it! But that’s a personal problem, so 5 stars!

I was so happy when I got my tv, it was bigger than I thought, and I loved everything about it. 9 months later, whenever I turn on my tv, a black screen appears. I was so confused since I had no idea what was happening, then I realized that the tv got connected to my speaker but I couldn’t see anything. That’s when I realized that I can hear that the tv works but the screen doesn’t display anything. I clicked the YouTube button, and it worked, I was able to hear a video playing but there was no image. I was very disappointed because I wasn’t expecting something like that. Thanks to TCL tech support, I was able to “fix” that bug at first, but now, 11 months later, the same thing keeps happening. I turn on my tv, and there’s a black screen. I can things in the background but nothing is displayed on the screen, it’s black. I have to unplug it, wait a few seconds to turn it back on because it doesn’t display anything otherwise. I don’t know what else to do, it’s just annoying to have to worry about those things

I have never left a one-star review before. This TV set has earned it. First one failed within the first 12-months. Best Buy, to their credit, replaced it. Replacement TV set failed about 18-months later. Same problem with both sets, the main board failed. In both cases, the TV software slowed down before the board failed. Really a terrible TV, and I would never buy another TCL after this experience.

We purchased the TCL 50″ television new from Best Buy 8 months ago. The screen went black. We contacted TCL since it is still under the 1 year parts/labor warranty. We went thru all the steps with them via phone to try and reset the tv. Nothing worked. They want us to send them the receipt and a short video showing the black screen. It will take 7 to 10 days for them to decide what to do about fixing/replacing. After that, it will take more time to replace/fix the tv. This is not an acceptable time frame. We requested to speak to a TCL supervisor or corporate office and apparently there is no way to go above the call taker’s head. Needless to say, TCL will never be purchased again.
