This is the Google experience you want camera wise this phone no this camera is the closest thing to a real Sony camera you can get.

Hi
I have received the new Sony Xperia 1 V for my birthday, after a one week, I decided to sell the phone
There’s still no clever LTPO or fully variable refresh rate tech, for example – you’ve got to pick either 60Hz or 120Hz. The latter makes scrolling feel so much smoother it’s worth the minor hit to battery life, although there’s nothing you can to stop the phone running certain apps at the lower rate.
It also doesn’t get anywhere near as bright as the current crop of flagship phones, which can pump out more than double the amount of light.
there’s no artificial brightening going on here like you’ll find on a Samsung or Apple phone
No AI-powered editing tools like Magic Eraser to remove unwanted elements in photos and Face Unblur to unblur the face of moving subjects.
The zoom lens isn’t quite so adept, introducing a lot more noise even with night mode lending a helping hand.
The telephoto’s maximum 5.2x optical zoom preserves a decent amount of detail, even if brickwork, foliage and fine textures can get a little lost. Saturation can dip, and it’s also not the strongest magnification available in a flagship phone, with the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra maintaining its lead.
Rivals also zoom further and pack in more creative modes to appeal to casual snappers.
Google uses its Super Res Zoom to offer 30x zoom with impressive results.
And while there’s no dedicated macro mode (something we’re seeing more of in rivals)
There’s no pre-installed bloat,
No 16GB ram storage
There’s no power brick included in the box,
No cable and no fast wireless charger in the box.
Rivals are better and away head

I feel that Sony has potential to really be competitive in the mobile market but the mk V shows they are headed in the right direction. I wanted to keep this phone but the 6.5in screen is so awkward. Its not wide its just super long. I feel like i was holding a galaxy z flip but think about adding 2 more inches to it, thats what it feels like holding the mk V. Not only that, but the version of andriod sony chose is soooo bare bones its like stepping back a decade when andriod was just starting to gain attention. I was very dissapointed with the lack of intergation and user experince you got from the version of sony chose not to mention, after updating to the latest verson of andriod, NOTHING improved. You just get the same basic features and navigation through apps and the system settings, you dont have the creative control you get from what Google, Samsung, or OnePlus does with andriod. You can really tell Sony didnt put much development or interest behind the user experince when it came running Andriod, they legit just threw the most basic bare bones features of andriod and called it a day. For 15000$ you shouldnt have that experinece with the user interface, that to me is the number 1 most dissapointing fact about this phone. The 4k OLED display is GORGEOUS, the fact they kept the headphone jack and allow you to continue to expand storage is perfect, but the battery doesnt last long even if you arent using the phone for long periods of use throughout the day. The camera setup on the phone is insane, better than iwhat i would say than any permium phone on the market. Yes, i said it idc what apple or samsung fan boys have to say about that. If Sony would of done womething ti improve the user interface and ecpernece with andriod, expand the screen by almost an inch and omptimze the software or change the battery to improve overall battery life, apple and samsung would be in VERY big trouble. Sony’s camera setup is so interesting, creative, advanced, and gives the user that enthusiastic feeling when using the camera setup sony did for this phone that if they made the changes i just mentioned, i think the xperia would truly make a ground breaking impact to the mobile market.

Outstanding phone! Got here early and great experience ordering through Best Buy. Especially with my rewards credit card.

I’ve owned the Sony Experia I V for almost four weeks now. The battery sometimes drains faster than expected, but I can usually end a day of use with 10% left at minimum. I love the camera features and incredibly fast autofocus. Apps run smoothly and graphics can be cranked up on every game I’ve downloaded. The sound quality and volume from the phone speakers are outstanding. Pair the phone with Dolby Atmos or 360 reality audio capable headphones like the Sony XM5s and prepare to be amazed.
Dwilson –
ive had it for a few days now and i couldn’t be happier. I shot professional photo and video and use all sony cameras. How awesome the I can use a phone for simple candid stuff that has the same settings and technology as my pro cameras. This phone is for real creative people, not conformist Crapple junkies that need the camera to do everything for them. This is a status symbol, it’s not for the weak. This IS THE KING OF PHONES. Now, go buy your iphone losers!

I like the the phone specially the camera it never let you down.batterry was superb, over all was so good
DanC –
First Sony phone and I am impressed. The phone runs fast and has overall high quality feel to it. If you use your phone camera to do any amount of actual photography or video, then you will truly appreciate the built-in software.
JoseF –
The device I’m using now still in great condition, and the service it’s superb.
Fiodar –
So far so good. This was a replacement of my daily Xperia 1ii, which is still an amazing phone. It doesn’t feel too different to be honest (even after 3 years), but definitely a bit faster and the key is the camera. Haven’t found any problems and quality of the photos and videos are great. The price should definitely be around 1k, no more. Would love to have more Sony merch as part of package for the price, but overall happy as a loyal sonyboy 🙂

Camera on Sony Xperia 1 V is the best, and this is my first Xperia device in over a decade, but I was blown away. Basic mode makes every point and shoot device obsolete, like I did not have to play around with adjustments to capture amazing photos and videos. Camera is a total must on this device. Battery is a monster, lasts for a very long time with heavy use. Display is good, but aspect ratio is not good for social media apps as a lot of content gets cut off, and there is no way to adjust it. Speakers are okay, I’d say they are above average. This device can get extremely hot, and I already had to reset it when I first got it as even holding it was extremely uncomfortable with excessive heating issues, after resetting it now only gets hot if I watch videos on it. I just took this device with me on to a 10 day Egypt tour instead of my Sony Alpha 7 IV, and I was blown away with the outcome. Amazing gadget for traveling in my opinion.

Let me get straight to the point: If you are buying this phone, it’s mainly for the camera. If you are looking for a phone where you can point, shoot, and have great contrast, sharp images without thinking, this is not the phone for you. Stick with the Galaxy S series, the Pixels, and iPhones. The camera on this reminds of the LG V60 where pictures are more natural looking and when you go into a manual mode you can dial it in more. Had a few times where my wife wanted me to take some pictures so I can dial in to closer color accuracy which she could not do with her iPhone.
Was in Nevada where I spent time in Las Vegas and in Lake Tahoe where I took a fair amount of pictures. Was every picture perfect? No, but like any camera there is a learning curve that is needed.
A plus to the phone when it comes to accessories is you can add the Sony Vlog Monitor and Shooting Grip to the phone which makes taking selfies a lot better. The battery drains fast on the Vlog Monitor so be mindful of that.
When it comes to accessories, that’s about the only plus to the Xperia 1 V. Finding cases, screen protectors, etc. is very limited.
Speaking of battery, the battery life to the phone itself was fine. The battery overheating issue that plagued the 1 IV has been significantly reduced. I did run into a battery overheating issue once but considering the circumstances I could understand.
Some other quick tidbits…
* The headphone jack is helpful but I wish they took a page from LG and put a Quad DAC in there. Definitely makes a difference.
* The longer, slimmer profile is a plus and a minus. It’s great when you’re holding the phone and watching movies, but some airlines now have a stand for your phone which is great but because of the smaller width of the Xperia 1 V a good part of it is cut off when you place it in the tray.
* The fingerprint reader doesn’t always read but sometimes it’s due to some sort of random security check
* Give the phone about a week to break in, especially when it comes to auto brightness. It needs to “learn” a few things.
* The expandable memory tray is great. A good number of apps you can configure to store large files there such as photos and movies.
Is the phone perfect? No but what phone is.

Great camera, good sound, long battery life 5 out of 5

Love this phone, it’s not cheap but no high-end phone is now a days. I’ve seen comments about it heating up, I’ve have not experienced any of that except when it’s charging.
Jammasterj –
Amazing phone for people who want something other than the usual Samsung or iPhone. Runs great, great battery life and phenomenal camera capabilities.
JasonE –
I love Sony line of Xperia phones and the Xperia 1 V is the best so far I love the vibration feedback when texting and the beautiful 4K OLED screen is gorgeous while watching YouTube videos. The Xperia 1 V front and back cameras are amazing.
Theneo1 –
I absolutely love this new phone from Sony. Those is replacing the original Sony Xperia 1, and this is everything I expected and more. I love the Best Buy Experience, and along with this, I purchased the membership option. It’s the best way to make sure all your Best Buy purchases come with automatic protection plan. That will ensure that my phone is protected… Just in case.
SketchyChiropractor –
The screen scratches way easier than any phone I’ve ever had, the phone doesn’t return to full speed after going into power saver mode and then getting charged, battery charging is slow often but sometimes works fine. Battery life kind of depends…sometimes it gets hot and drains for no reason but a restart will fix it. I wouldn’t buy another Sony but this definitely felt better than the pixel 7 pro. Camera is great.
Maceart –
Amazing camera, 3.5 mm jack, qi charging, and the latest TSMC Snapdragon Gen 8 v2. Checks off all the boxes for a full featured phone. Recommend getting the Sony official kickstand case as it complements it perfectly.
JankoA –
The phones good but it’s kinda buggy with YouTube and google photos for some reason. I know it’s this phone cause my iPhone dint have these problems not sure why tho. I like the phone tho
EvanJ –
Amazing device, would take this over iPhone any day
Vince –
Solid Xperia phone with just about everything you want. Headphone jack, bezels, long battery life, 21:9 screen, fingerprint sensor on the power button, and a great camera. Only thing really missing this time around is the notification LED, which I’m pretty sad about losing. Everything else about it is perfect though. And it’s the first in this line of phones to not have overheating issues!
HugoP –
The best camera I’ve used and seen in any smartphone. Super fast phone, the video and audio playback is superb, really a phone to consume media on. The battery life is amazing lasts all day even after hours of watching 4k videos. This should be the smartphone standard, almost forgot, SD card expansion and a headphone Jack!!
Musicboy –
Have no problem with the phone itself. Calls are great and speed is fine. Camera is cool. Not really many customization options for phone. Basic Google customization. No real theme options like HTC, LG, and Samsung had or has. The main thing that made me give it 3 stars besides the lack of customization is the fact that there is no Bravia core offered in America which I was looking forward to due to the 4k capabilities. Not sure why but such a bummer. Some kind of battery pass through would have been great too. It would be nice to use the phone plugged in without having to worry about harming the battery. At least with gaming. Could not recommend at this price point.
Matrix555 –
I am actually really impressed with this phone, I was expecting something like that but man, this phone is excellent.
Diodonda –
This phone is amazing in feel. The taller aspect ratio makes it a pleasure to hold especially if you have small hands. The phone looks very simple and sleek but has a touch of elegance when using it and having it in hand.
The OS is clean with barely any bloatware and close to stock Android which is great, it just works. Performance runs great in everyday usage and gaming. It does run hot the first few days but that went away shortly
The extra shutter button is solid and tactile with good feedback, although I wish the phone had haptic feedback when taking pictures and videos. The basic Camera options works out of the box but could be better. The manual camera functions are awesome and fun to play with. The standard camera app video recording is laggy when you stop it and it is hard to tell if it stopped recording since the screen still shows that it is recording even though it has already stopped. I am not sure if this is an issue caused by saving it to an SD card instead of internal storage. Wish it would display something on the screen to signify that it is loading or saving. A software update resolving this would be great. All the other video recording apps such as cinema pro and video pro works amazing with great customization and manual control.
Overall love this phone! Simple to use out of the box and just runs great day-to-day and plows through any casual apps like Reddit. Has the power to handle more demanding activities such as gaming and video editing.
S0UNDC1TY –
I’ve had pretty much all of them – Samsung fold 3&4, notes, Google pixels 2,3,4, 6, 7 pro, Motorola’s, iPhone 14 pro and earlier models — this is the best phone I’ve ever had. The battery life isn’t as absurdly good as an iPhone and it does get a little warm at times when really pushing hifi video. But everything else is does – gaming, video viewing, photos, processing data, calls, design, comfort, personality, fast charging – more than makes up for the specific areas it doesn’t beat an iPhone in.
Neil –
This phone has been great. Runs great. I really enjoy the form factor. I know some may not like the aspect ratio but im good with it. Alot of screen in one hand. I am running this off mint mobile with no issues. The phone is pricey being the biggest drawback. I don’t game much so i cant give any feedback on that. The camera has been excellent. There is alot of personalizing you can do with the camera. Would certainly recommend this phone.
KDTMD –
I love Sony products but this phone needs lots of improvements. It comes with excellent cameras, amazing screen and almost perfect form factor. Unfortunately, the OS software is too basic, no real customization available, lack of wi-fi calling or at least I could not make it work, odd placement for front camera, no pc interface software and speakers not loud enough.
Two good and rare features that are very useful are the micro SD expansion bay and headset jack.
I’ll wait for the Xperia Pro II to give Sony a try again.
JB25 –
Love the phone only thing that’s disappointing about it is the flashlight but I’m not using it for the flashlight.
Duey –
One of the best flagship phones today. I enjoy still having a headphone jack and using a micro SD card for more storage.
Cruz –
The camera is actually nuts on this phone and im generally not a photo guy
TecSuport –
I love how I still have a microSD option and head phone jack although I miss the led notification but It’s not a deal breaker
Robertm –
I give this phone a 5 star for the follow reasons. 1 the durability and quality in this tiny machine is unreal. I appreciate the fine coating and hardware to build this workhorse. And 2 for the camera!
Havoc726 –
Great phone, love the design and texture back. The cameras are great too.
JordanH –
The phone is great processing is quick video features are very realistic. Nothing to filtered just raw footage. My only knock is that it does get warm which really isn’t a big deal just something I noticed.
DaGodMP –
Best phone ever. The camera is great and screen is crystal clear.
user595385 –
I haven’t liked a phone this much since the LG V60. Absolutely no compromises. Camera/video is highly capable as an auto shooter, but the manual controls is where the true potential lies. Not the effortless auto mode shooter in comparison to a Samsung or Pixel but with a little effort using manual controls, the results beats the competition. I prefer Sony’s approach and not the overprocessed computational photography experienced with Samsung and Google Pixels.
meme –
I also have iPhone 14 and pixel 8. I don’t even touch my iPhone anymore. Pixel is used for work. Sony beats them both.
KG21 –
Beautiful phone that is plagued with bad software. Phone constantly freezes and camera will randomly stop functioning and need to be reset.
LuisG –
Great Phone (5 Stars) – changed to 1 Star due to Best Buy experience.
Associates have been unwilling to help despite their agreement to the deception (transcript saved). No escalation provided after numerous attempts – to eventually being provided to what seems like a fictitious back-office incident number (8 days now).
They advertise this phone under the “Extended Holiday Return Period” (in Photos) claiming that “this item” is refundable until January 13th.
This is deception advertisement that led me to purchase this item through Best Buy. I received the device on November 22nd and by December 16th – the price was lowered by $100.
My request at a price match has been declined and I’m attempting all possible venues at this point for this case to be eventually escalated as a deceptive practice by the Federal Trade Commission Act. A BBB claim has also been made.
Very disappointed at the service I’ve been provided.
Back to the phone. Great device. Highly recommend purchase from anyone other than Best Buy.
SergeyC –
I am delighted with this phone, it has a very good camera for night shooting of video and photos, and they also installed a brand new, very high-quality microphone that allows you to record sound at studio level.
Mrodster –
Excellent build quality. Top notch camera. 4K Definition.
GKEV –
Im beyond upset with the Xperia 1V. Like….OH MY GODD!!! Despite the fact you got a beautiful display no major streaming app alow you to watch movies in HD. You can only watch them in SD. Jesus Christ. This is ridiculous. SONY did me and every other XPERIA 1V wrong on this one. -THE CAMERAS ARE GOOD -THE FLASH LIGHT ON THIS PHONE AND LIKE ANY OTHER XPERIA IS WEAK – THE PHONE IS BEAUTIFUL. THE TEXTURE AND FEEL ARE PERFECT – BATTERY LIFE IS FINE -SOUND IS EXCELLENT – YOUTUBE VIDEOS ARE EXCELLENT. ( IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A PHONE WHERE YOU CAN ENJOY WATCHING YOUR MOVIES IN HD, XPERIA 1V I IN FACT NOT IT)…. I PROMISE.
Kelrics –
Disappointed. I had to return the device due to some buggy behavior that doesn’t seem it was going to be fixed.
For one, the Camera is slow to switch between lenses and doesn’t transition cleanly when you’re zooming. The most egregious problem is the display and once I noticed it, I couldn’t “un-see” it. When the brightness is turned below 90%, the tint of the display turns green. I was able to compensate for this by enabling the “extra dim” setting in Android but using the phone at night with 90-100 percent brightness is straining to the eyes even with the extra dim enabled. This issue also causes the display to crush near black colors. OLED’s are known for this, but it’s particularly bad here. When playing Honkai Star Rail at low brightness the UI shows these black blotches in dark areas and looks very pixelated.
I made Sony aware of the issue because it’s most likely software calibration of the OLED Display that’s the cause but they didn’t even seem to know this was a problem. The display looks amazing when the colors are actually correct though. The display sadly doesn’t support Variable Refresh Rate either so you have to choose between 120/60Hz.
Other than triggering my OCD with that display problem, the phone performs perfectly fine with a near stock android experience. The camera software is great if you know what you’re doing. Video quality is great (again, at max brightness). Games run great and Sony has a nice tool with performance options if you want to save battery.
Not the quality standard I was expecting for the price. If you get the phone with a good display that doesn’t turn green, it’s a great phone.
Maybe I just got a lemon.
