I didn’t expect this kind of sound from an MP3 player But with the equalizer and all the other settings it has To enhance and process The Bluetooth signal and audio It makes My ears excited and I have heard things I have never heard before And I was skeptical But hearing it myself has made me a believer And I feel it’s definitely worth the price.

Another Sony Walkman in my life. Started with the first one released in 1979. This one is Android and touch screen. The live wallpaper showing the cassette playing with the artist and song, looks awesome. High quality sounds. Music is easy to load up on a memory card and insert into Walkman. Now I don’t have to use my Sony Xperia 1 III for music. Also had streaming services.

  3. RobertJ

I bought this because I also have a prior model (the NW-A55) and really like the sound (I use FLAC which is CD quality) with my home stereo. The only thing I don’t like about this is all the apps that I already have on my phone. My NW-A55 is simply a music player and this one just seems to have a lot of useless junk on it.

  4. DonTeca

Great item for audiophiles on a budget. I bought the music player about a month or 2 ago but had an ongoing software issue where the bass was forced creating a muffled feel to it. This was fixed a month ago so I can truly recommend it now. Only thing I will say is that I’d pay to get the JP/HK version imported as the volume isn’t capped

  5. BbyCustomer

Certainly confused by the high ratings this gets on Best Buy’s reviews. This device has been an absolute headache to get working and stable. Yes, the OS can be sluggish to respond and this non-Japanese version is limited, but that’s the least worrying bit.

If you try to use any streaming app the experience gets worse — Spotify and Tidal run into serious issues on this device.

With Spotify, there’s the issue of the app trying to redownload your offline tracks each time you power on the Walkman (the only fix seems to come from a few Reddit posts — yes, NOT from Sony’s website and NOT from an included manual BUT from Reddit).

Tidal fairs even worse, the app can run extremely slow and can crash with no notice — playing the first track can take 90 seconds to start and skipping tracks often causes the app to fail. Both apps were used with downloaded music for offline play on a speedy Samsung microSD card which in theory should provide a better experience than relying on Wi-Fi streaming, but that was certainly not the case.

Even when playing local music through the integrated Walkman app (the intended Sony Walkman experience I guess) the Walkman and app will also hard crash…

The battery life compared to other Sony Walkman players is suggested to be considerably better in reviews, but it will absolutely NOT get you anywhere near a full work day’s worth of playback — in my experience it will discharge well within about 4 hours of playback at 50% brightness with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off (any lower brightness and it the screen becomes difficult to see under daylight). In addition to a pretty bad battery life, it also gets notably hot after more than a few minutes of audio playing.

Many of these problems can likely be fixed by Sony in future firmware updates and software patches, but until then I cannot recommend this Walkman to anyone looking for a quick way to get set up with a dedicated portable device for music playback. If you do decide to get this, be ready to commit to researching for various fixes from community forums and Reddit posts as well as perhaps factory resetting this a handful of times to get this working right.

Love the way this sounds, works even better with Flac files and hi-res earphones and headphones. The tunabilty and overall sound from this is on another level, way better than any phone in 2023. Highly recommend this to anyone looking to get into hi res music and wants an affordable hi res player.

  7. StevenC

I love this device. The sound is great. This isn’t a product for everyone, but if you want a great way to listen to music without the constant distractions from a phone, this is your device.

Buyers note: my first device was defective and crashed all the time. I swapped it out for a new one, and it has been rock solid.

  8. JerryG

Awesome, love the new features ! It doesn’t turn up as loud as my older NW-A45, but is loud enough. It’s only an issue when plugging it into amplified speakers, not with headphones. The display is much easier to read, and has bigger album art.

  9. Martello

The Sony walkman is compact, immersing to zone out away from noises of reality. This device is great for music heads who doesn’t want to be bothered and disturbed from no one.

  10. Elsie

Thanks we really like it a lot nice table and we appreciate y’all time

  11. GilbertF

Great sound plays all hi Rez formats and streamers. Plus expandable storage with sd card. Great player for audiophiles who want better fidelity than their phones.

  12. JillS

My husband had one of these that we used on each of our vacations. Sadly, it got washed into the ocean on a trip. It was out of stock for a while, I was thrilled to see it was finally available for purchase. This is a bit smaller than the original item he owned but offers all of the same features. He loves it and uses it with Bluetooth often to do an assortment of tasks. Great sound, great item worth every penny.

  13. GaryR

I am only a weekend audiophile, but the quality, depth, richness and fullness of the sound far exceeds my iTouch; 7th generation!

  14. ChrisW

I bought this mostly for music purposes but works well. I would recommend.

  15. EMEM

I wanted to love it but the Bluetooth did not have good range and the thing ran to slow for my taste. Ill stick to my phone for awhile until the fix those things.

  16. Elijah

The sound is great, but the worst thing about it is that it’s a slow Android device. Some of the menus are hard to use and feel clunky, and there’s no back button or home button, so most of the time you’ll have to spam the back arrows to go through every page you’ve opened just to close an app. For $300+, it’s a bit of a disappointing user experience. On the other hand, compared to my phone, the sound is great.

  17. CinthiaB

This sony walkman is insane. For a good price, you got nice features including media buttons, custom equilizer settings, and even a convenient micro sd slot. After messing around with the eq settings and downloading a bunch of songs on it, id say its definitely worth it. Personally, i use it with my wh-1000xm5s so it sounds incredible. Would buy for an audiophile.

  18. Lifetunexr

Do not buy this dap. There are much better options around the same price. Volume output is very limited and poor. No high gain to help with it either

  19. MaryS

It was complicated to use, and when I took it to the store to find out how to transfer music to it. The employee from the Geek Squad stated “What is this?” after making an appointment to meet with someone, I still could get help. I wounded up returning it. I am looking for something different less complicated.

  20. GabrielaR

This is a great product by Sony, would recommend for people who loves music.

  21. dabgun

I like the android capability It connected to my google account seamlessly. Nice sound and easy to use

  22. MarcoC

Good for music but keep in mind that Sony is the only one that can open it if you forget your PIN.

  23. VolPush

The screen was a little too small for some offline apps that I needed and the device was also slightly under powered. Limited Google Play Store app selection. Battery life wasn’t great for my usage. As for Spotify, the screen was cramped and I had trouble with downloaded songs until I mounted the SD card correctly through the Google Files app. On the plus side, I was able to type on the tiny keyboard and it’s a totally fine MP3 player with wired or wireless earbuds.

  24. Konk

Outstanding sound quality and dynamic range. This little player took my Cadillac’s Bose system to a whole new lecel!

  25. Jesse

    Awesome. Great. Nice. ……………………….

  26. BanjoEtudes

The NW-A306 has good sound. I was surprised at how much Android logging-in is required to set it up, I was hoping for a non-streaming, SD-card based, offline, wilderness-capable product and hope to see one one day. On my android phone, Musicolet takes 50 minutes to scan my SD card but the same program on the NW-A306 takes about 8 hours, so if you are trying to be SD-card, mp3-based, it takes a long time to update (replace) the library file. As others have noted, the sound volume seems to be limited, and I was hoping for higher volume (seems to be a US-market PL problem). Nice small size. I hope to see a non-streaming option someday, and and longer battery life and maybe 5 or 6 times the memory (at 32 GB, it has 1/4 the memory of cheap 2021 android phones, which can essentially do the same job at 1/4 of the price).

  27. Erin

I love SONY so very much for so very long and was so excited for this to be my everyday hi res (and near hi res) music player and streamer for my Tidal,!Apple Music, and purchased FLAC / ALAC content via wired iems and headphones, and separately but most importantly to me my new SONY xm5 earbuds via LDAC.

Welp, android OS was the first problem for an all in Apple person like me.
But, besides the slow, cumbersome, intrusive, OS, the BT on this only works when not connected to wifi and has a terrible wifi and BT antenna compared to my SONY soundbar and all my other devices.

Okay, welp just download music. 🙁
The wifi antenna or device processor is slow (not my internet or router). It took almost 20 hours to download about 200gb of streaming downloads to my sd card which was new and formatted by the device.

Okay, now for the music experience.
The DAC in this device was very disappointing compared to the three others i have, even the smallest portable rechargeable one.
Okay, well I really bot this for LDAC, oh but wait it has a terrible BT antenna.
Okay I’ll use my SONY IEMs or SONY xm4 headphones, oh but remember the DAC is not remotely up to the task with subpar and ow audio quality and low output even for my iems.

Retuned next day after all of this and learned a quick internet search would have identified all of these things were not a one off experience for this device.

I still love and trust SONY, but from now on will read reviews beyond this site.

The Sony NW-A306 Walkman A Series in Black is a solid choice for music enthusiasts looking for a high-quality portable music player. It has excellent sound quality, sleek design, ample storage, and impressive battery life to provide a premium listening experience.

  30. NancyG

I dont enjoy the volume control. In certain aspect the the extra volume seem to sound the same. I wish i could return it

  31. jfuse1212

Awesome mysic player, great format support, my only gripe is it will not let you plug it into your car play music, it has to be through blutooth, odd choice even if its an android auto supported device.

  32. RahiimW

I never recieved my package. Fedex left it in front of my door and it was stolen. Pending investigation to dispute my claim so I can get a replacement this has taken so much of my personal time im so unsatisfied with bestbuy and fedex

  33. ThomasO

Great little mp3 player Enjoy using it! Very good!

  34. Emily

I like it! It’s nice how portable it is especially with not too many choices out there anymore in terms of phone size. Plus having an audio jack is the main reason I bought it. There are a couple of things that bug me a little, the storage that the Android systems take up is insane! I could have doubled my downloaded liked songs on Spotify (4,000 songs) if it had taken up less room. Also, when I was first setting up my device it asked if I wanted to have a set turn-off time and I accidentally clicked an hour, I haven’t figured out how to turn off this feature (even with googling it) so if you know I would love to know! Besides those it’s not a bad purchase for the price and I’m happy to have it so I don’t always have to listen to the radio on road trips!

  35. Itok

Of course definitely i will recommend this product to my friends and family this mp3 is superman it takes me everywhere. it serves as my music companion in my car at work in my room even family gathering using my blue tooth Marshall speakers! Awesome !! Buy this you wont regret it!!

  36. Suharsh

I own some older Sony walkmans and non-Sony DAPs and sadly this is probably the worst product sony has released. I tried several headphones ranging from Koss to Fostex and all of them the volume was low. This thing can’t drive a relatively low impedance Koss headphone forget about anything else! My samsung phone does a better job.

  37. MrSylvester

This little thing is an absolute gamechanger!!! I pair this with my airpod pro 2s, I will NEVER listen to music on another device EVER again. The audio is crispy and lossless is amazing. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

  38. NateQ

Fortunately if you want a player devoted to audio only and no distractions, go for this device. Be warned that this device picks up audible noise due to WiFi card. I thought I had purchased a faulty device at first, but after receiving the second one and attempting multiple headphones it was true that they are faulty in that aspect. This means you can’t stream music from apps that require WiFi without noise.

  39. PhilippeM

Connection wise is very fast. If you know how to adjust the sound the way you want to, it’s amazing. I’m very happy with it. Most of the time in my car.

  40. Marrinez

Bery good small, sound liked, perfrec ro me tnks sony

  41. MacbookAir2020

Excellent device. I am enjoying my music and the streaming services too. Sony places music in a high-end level. The android system is quick and gives stability to the unit. Very easy to use and the cassette screensaver will add a retro element that any X gen love. But do not forget the password because it does not have a way to factory reset, and you will need to send it to a Sony Technical Service Support.

  42. Jabog

Best powerful small device that can give you satisfaction in music. Android powered with Bluetooth and wifi. Better than ipod classic or ipod touch.

  43. StephenJ

Volume adjustment to a lower level may seem important as we may not want to increase the probability of hearing loss at an older age. Nevertheless, battery has improved and may not want to keep running since now it is persistent that it will stop after a certain number of hours. Plus, longer battery life compared to the older version.

  44. 4172021

It was good you just have to connect to computer and I works for lots of things it’s just made for kids

  45. user691412

Purchased to dnld. music from my Spotify acct. and pair with my auto’s infotainment system instead of my android mobile phone. Works great. Upgrades the sound coming out of the speakers. Would have given it a 5 star, but it was a bit of a challenge for me to set up. I am 75 and am not familiar with many electronic devices. It seems mfgr’s. often forget that some of us are late getting into the game. We’re old; not dumb. User friendly devices should include that segment of the population that is aging and did not grow up with a cell phone, tablet, computer, etc.

  46. BigFlech

Great product. I’m not really one who listens to music through my phone since i do so much other stuff with it. Was looking for something that I can throw in my pocket and go. Can stream through Spotify and other apps but it also allows me to click & drag songs from my computer. Small enough to fit in just about any pocket. Battery life is excellent. More than enough space. Highly recommend this to anyone who isn’t into putting music on their phone.

  47. DarioG

I was very disappointed. The bass was horrible. Even after the update the bass was flat. No depth to the music at all. A lot of apps I would never use. I don’t need a calendar or calculator on my music player. Battery life was only a fraction of stated. Even with the Bluetooth & Wi-Fi off. The volume is limited by design in the US. This is a deal breaker for me. I don’t listen at deafening levels but with this player I couldn’t. Album art work was not transferred for most of my FLAC files ripped from CDs. I put the exact same micro SD card in a different player and the art work transferred just fine. I have been a big Walkman fan since the CD Walkman & minidisc Walkman. This is not worthy of the name.

  48. StephenR

Great functionality as a player, the sound quality from the DAC just sucks unfortunately. No soundstage, weak dynamics, still better than a phone but way worse than any dac dongle 50$ and up. Wish that I didn’t buy honestly but will use as a Bluetooth player since I have an iPhone and this has LDAC!

  49. wisconcp

Nice way to have a large library without counting on cloud based services, but still have access to cloud based services. It’s not perfect or for everyone, but works well for me.

  50. gls1999

Great little player.Bluetooth works with sony earbuds perfectly.
