DavidJohnson –
Absolutely worth the price for the amazing performance and quality of the lens. If on a budget I would recommend the Sony FE 85mm 1.8 lens as it’s even sharper than the battle and cost efficient.
MTAN –
Perfect for portrait photography, clear picture, fit most of shooting without switch lens often. 11 blades at. F1.4 give best image like no other lens can. Clarity and sharp image. Only cos is light noise when focus.
Kinh –
This is exactly what I needed. 85mm screams quality and is perfect for portraits. The only thing I wish Sony would do is fix noise when the lens is focusing, but I can live with that.
MyokThu –
Are you a portrait photographer. You must choose GM 85 .Nice Bokeh & Sharpness.
Austin –
This lens is what every photographer needs in their arsenal.
aorobert –
This is my new favorite lens. It is incredibly fast and although some people have complained about a noise it makes while focusing that went away after about two weeks. The sharpness of this lens is absolutely incredible and it is more than worth its weight.
amymirandamakeup –
I like it. It is a bit heavy though. It is good for portraits and not so much for video or movies.
Aorobert –
Wow. A 1.4 is awesome, but this is soooo sweet. Loved the other brands but this is BEEFY and awesome. GET IT.

I have this lens paired with the Sony A7rII camera and the pictures that I have taken with it are something else! A premium, high quality lens that a nit picky photographer will truly enjoy using. This is my first GM lens and the picture quality reminds me of Canon’s F1.2L lenses.
A couple things that I’d like to mention is that the lens did hunt for focus VERY much. I went through all my settings and didn’t realize that phase detect autofocus was off by default from Sony. As soon as it was turned on, the camera focused without an issue, even in low light. So if you’re camera is hunting for focus, check your phase detect settings. Another thing I did not care for much is the lens hood. It doesn’t fit as well as it should and I don’t understand the purpose of having a button release on the hood over the usual click on style hoods. I’ve never had a lens hood screw itself off (LOL) so I guess its just Sony being fancy and over engineered the hood.

I am loving my new lens and this lens is seriously sharp. I am capturing great photos. This lens stick to my camera at all times.
Nujntsaimvaj –
Very sharp image and is the best quality picture I’d ever got from a lens..
JMP2018 –
After much consideration, I decided to take the leap, and purchase the Sony 85MM 1.4 Lens. It was a big investment but totally worth it every penny.
This is by far the best lens I have ever had. Paired with the Sony A7r II camera the quality of the images are spectacular. If you are a professional hobbyist like myself or a true professional you will enjoy every photo you take with this camera.

This lens has stepped up the quality of my shots A LOT! Its clear and produces amazing shots. Definitely more of a portrait lens in my opinion. It’s hard to use in tight areas since there isn’t a way to zoom out, but you probably already knew that if you’re looking at this lens. Image quality is top notch! I use it with my Sony a6000.
JohnRINGO –
This lens is an absolute beast, it’s super fast and sharp. Gmaster lenses in general would be my first choice to purchase. It is expensive but I think worth every penny. I think at any level of photographer this lens is good both learn on and use daily.
kopperss –
Great overall lens. Images are extremely sharp. Only minor negative is focusing is a little slow but overall a great lens.
Alifonso –
This lens is super sharp and will give you top of the line bokeh!
Nick –
Amazing portrait lense. Best lense Sony makes for the a7 series. You won’t be disappointed.

What an investment!!
It’s not called the “Bread & Butter” lens for nothing.
Very sharp, buttery bokeh..fast AF in portrait as well as video…especially video in particular..your portraits will wow whomever or whatever you’re capturing!.
Junkster –
Love this lens and it is fantastic for portraits. The subject really pops with an beautifully blurred background.
ARod –

The perfect lense for my camera! The pictures & video come out so clear and sharp! I love it!!!
ajsesq –
This is a great native addition for my Sony camera collection. Great for portrait photography.
Antonio –
Solid depth of field. Missing colors sometimes. I’ll take shot and import it and there be distortion. I have 5+ years of photography on my belt.
pirate –
My new go to lens. I love it. I wish it cost less, but still I got a great deal on it with my coupon. Least expensive price anywhere.
bscooper547 –
I use this lens with a Sony A7RM4. I bought this when my newest grandchild arrived. This fast f1.4 lens allowed me to take great shots. I had been using primarily zoom lenses, but there are too many compromises. They are too heavy or too slow and none have an f1.4 which is great for portraits. Even though this lens has been out for a few years, I am impressed by the auto focus and sharpness.
EstesPark –
I heard this lens is excellent,
85 1.4 should produce excellent results
unfortunately never had the chance to hold this lens and test

If you’re a portrait photographer, 85mm HAS TO BE part of your kit.
I live in a small studio apartment where I have a backdrop and lights set up as if it was a photography studio, I was worried at first about purchasing anything over 50mm because my space is so small, but even with this 85mm I manage to get everything I want in my shots.
Depth a field>? 1.4 is your new best friend.
SethGuya –
This lens is a challenge for someone who is using it on a crop censor. It can be a tad difficult to dial in this focal length with the magnifier from a crop lens but it is for sure worth the money.
I hope to upgrade to an A7RIII one day and am just getting used to the feel and use of this lens as I wait. Sony shooters – this lens is a must.
MrHookup –
Literally the only lens for those insane portrait photo shoots! Be aware this is really only meant for a single subject. Trying to get multiple people in the exact same depth of field is very difficult. Highly recommend!
RSSINC –
Great for the money, if you cant get the GM G is the way to go.
Morgan –
It’s a great lens, but like all of the reviews says it, the focus motors are quite loud

AAA+++++ lens!
My favorite! Super sharp lens!
This is literally one of my favorite lens
LeroyC –
Excellent product. Definitely recommended. Good quality
ErtD –
Hight quality lens, It’s kind of heavy but I go to the gym 4 times a week.
JonnyVice –
This thing is crisp and fast to lock in AF. The bokeh is smooth and gradual when needed and fast and sharp when necessary. I’m shooting with an A7C & FX3. Love it. All G Masters have been amazing so far.

Starting with the positives, the G Master FE 85mm F1.4 GM lens delivers exceptional image quality. The lens produces stunningly sharp and detailed images with excellent contrast and beautiful bokeh thanks to its wide maximum aperture of f/1.4. This makes it a fantastic choice for portraiture, allowing for subject isolation and a dreamy background blur.
The lens features a solid build quality, constructed with high-quality materials. It feels robust in hand and is designed to withstand the demands of professional use. Additionally, it is weather-sealed, providing protection against dust and moisture, which is crucial for outdoor photography.
However, compared to the newer GM lenses, the G Master FE 85mm F1.4 GM lens does have a couple of drawbacks. First, it is relatively slower in terms of autofocus performance. While it still offers good autofocus capabilities, it may not match the lightning-fast speed of its successors. This can be a consideration for photographers who frequently shoot fast-moving subjects or require swift focusing in challenging situations.
Another aspect to note is that the lens may produce a slightly audible noise during autofocus operation. While not excessively loud, it may be more noticeable compared to the newer GM lenses that feature quieter and more refined autofocus systems. For some users, this may not be a significant issue, but it’s worth mentioning for those who prioritize silent operation.
Despite these minor limitations, the Sony G Master FE 85mm F1.4 GM Full-Frame lens remains a great choice for photographers who value exceptional image quality and appreciate the characteristics of a wider aperture prime lens. Its optical performance, build quality, and ability to create stunning portraits make it a solid option for professionals and enthusiasts alike.
In conclusion, while the G Master FE 85mm F1.4 GM Full-Frame lens may be slower and louder compared to its newer GM counterparts, it remains a fantastic lens with outstanding image quality and a solid build. If you can overlook the slightly slower autofocus and audible noise, this lens offers exceptional performance and is well worth considering for those who prioritize image quality and the creative possibilities of a wide aperture prime lens.

This is my only lens and i think this is a best lens you need for portrait. It is little pricey but it is worth the money. Recommend
SonyLens –
ABSOLUTLEY LOVE THIS LENS!! Durable lens. Crisp image!
JDAman –
This is a wonderful portrait lens, sharp and great color.
Andyk –
A beautiful piece of lens . A must have in the arsenal
Bryan –
It’s a GM, it’s 1.4, it’s fantastic. But it’s big, heavy and expensive. You can save $1200 by getting the Sony 85mm 1.8, an amazing lens that rivals the GM. That 2/3 stop difference is nice, but it’s not $1200 nice. The 1.8 is significantly smaller and lighter too. It’s very hard for me to recommend this lens when the Sony 85mm 1.8 exists for $1200 less. You can take that $1200 and buy another lens.
Mayank –
This is my 3rd lenss from best buy very frendly using
SoyBenChulo –
Previously Owned the Sony Fe 85mm 1.8. This is a huge upgrade on the quality of the lens and the the image. The only slight downside of the lens is the noise of the glass moving and slight time to focus.
Pedro –
Fast, sharp prime lens that I use for portrait photography. Bought this to go with my Sony A7RV, and ive been very happy with it. Does a great job with creating a shallow depth of field when used wide open.
Omer –
This lens is the Boca King love how the image is render on the lens. Highly recommend if you’re trying to get that separation in the background great quality, GM quality.
85mm –
Beautiful lens, definitely one of my top three favorites.
