  1. RiverGuy

There are two teleconverters that work with the F2.8 70-200mm GM telephoto lens. With the 1.4 X you lose only one F stop so I bought that rather than the longer 2.0. The clarity and detail of this lens and extender combination is amazing. I haven’t tried to capture birds in flight yet. All of the pictures I have taken have been with the camera hand held. As far as I can tell, there is no reason to use a tripod.

  2. Mike1812

I purchased the Sony 1.4 teleconverter to use with the Sony FE 100-400GM zoom lens. The converter does a great job of extending reach with no noticeable image degradation, although as with all converters, it does cost you on the maximum aperture available on the lens (easily countered with higher ISO settings). My primary use for this is for wildlife but I will also use it at upcoming air shows. Since Sony’s longest native FE lens is the 100-400, the 1.4X and 2.0X are necessary to extend reach.

  3. Itsjustme

Very good quality can’t see any added distortion very easy to use

  4. Katt

I purchased this teleconverter to increase the focal length of my Sony 100-400 GM lens paired with my a6500 body. I’m so impressed with the image quality! The only compromise is losing one stop of light (maximum aperture of f/8 at 400mm).

  5. x2000

I’m really enjoying the extra reach add on to sony 100-400mm. and I haven’t noticed a decrease in image quality with autofocus. It is a good companion with Sony 100-400mm FE lens. it works well with A6000 and A6500

  6. Paul

I have both the 2x and this 1.4x and while I like the extended reach of the 2x, the 1.4x maintains all the focus features and is sharper with my 100mm-400mm Sony lens. I highly recommend this add on.

  7. guifeng

The amplification is good gives you a closer look as expected, you loose light but it worth the trade.

  8. Marko

No noticeable image degradation. Even in low light.

  9. 1105

This teleconverter works quite well when paired with a 100-400 lens on an A7R3.

  10. cameraman

works great, lens is a little heavy but overall great addition.

  11. Veganshooter

I really like the quality and added reach of this teleconverter!

  12. Coastalkate

Added this to my 100-400mm and I love the extra reach!

  13. AlexDASurfer

1.4 better than the higher converter betted f stop and shutter speed also image I think is better great addition to your lense collection lot og bang for the buck and extends your reach when you need to get closer to the action

  14. 3spress0

Not as soft as the 2x, but not a dramatic change in reach either. Minimum aperture of f4 on your 70-200 GM 2.8.

  15. Tiburon

Tis is a great addition for my growing Sony camera gear.
The 1.4x teleconverter is perfect when its necessary to get in close without intruding or spooking wildlife
I use this with Sony 7RIV and A9 with the FE 200-600 lens.
Make sure you check Sony product guide to confirm which body/lens combo before purchasing

  16. Rafbw

Excellent converter add more reach and only one stop loss. Great price and good Best Buy interest free buying options.

  17. N3rd

Standard teleconverter with a loss of one stop of light for 1.4x reach with no loss of image quality.

  18. neko

size smaler than canon 1.4x teleconverter, and image result sharp

  19. dietpepsiman

Works well, I love it with my 200-600 GM. Almost no IQ on the 200-600 and hardly noticeable on the 70-200 GM

  20. wallyphotography

Nice and compact, works as usual and what you’d expect with a teleconverter.

  21. chris

took this to yellowstone and put it on my 200-600 to get that extra reach, it did great

  22. Hyperblue

Pristine image quality for giving your zoom lens the extra “reach” it needs. I recently bought the Sony 100-400mm zoom lens and wanted to be able to zoom in even further using this teleconverter. Although you lose roughly a stop and half of light, the autofocus works perfectly and the image quality shows no loss.

  23. Jason

A little extra reach goes a long way, as long as you’ve got the light to lose a stop on your aperture. Perfect to extend a 100-400 to a 140 to 560.

  24. SonyA6400

This is a good teleconverter for a few of the Sony lenses. Images produced are still sharp. I mainly use it paired to my 200-600mm lens. It seldom leaves my lens.

  25. Fasteddie

I purchased this teleconverter base on many reviews that I have read. In reality as a Wildlife photographer I am always looking for getting closer to the subject minimizing the surroundings and environment of the wildlife. I am currently using it with a 200-600 mm Sony lens and it doesn’t disappoint. The downside is that is more for a daylight use due to the fact that you will lose light it turns into an F8 F9 aperture. The focus is still very accurate.

  26. Naiyu

Amazing sharpness! I use canon R5 and Sony a1. I also own Canon RF extender which is terrible compare to this. It is definitely pricey than Canon and Nikon but hey you get what you for.

  27. IKAIKAMAVIC

I use this Sony – 1.4x Teleconverter with my Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 GM Ver 1 on a Sony A9 and works really well. I believe it stops down to f/4 but still seems to be fast-focusing and sharp with decent light of course. Nice addition to my gear to get that extra reach option when my 150-600mm zoom lens is not at optimal range.

  28. Orolon

If you do your research on these you will find that many people who review them are not fans. I’m here to tell you they are right! I’ve done my own side by side comparisons and yes the sharpness is compromised. If this doesn’t bother you then get it. If your like me and like sharp photos, I’m not a fan of cropping by I rather crop and it will still look sharper. I’ll be looking to sell this. 1st picture with teleconverter and second picture without. I don’t know if they down size the file here tho. Good luck on your choice!

  29. sellsbury

Great addition to my wildlife and sporting needs with the new Sony A7iv and 70-200 GM ii

  30. ItsMe

Attaches and works great with my 100-400 lens. I’ve only used it for limited trails until now but I look forward to testing it on safari

  31. Oleg

Very nice addition to Sony lens (70-200mm in my case) – no problem with quality of photos, but gives you that extra reach which sometimes very good – at the price of 1 f-stop… and some amount of money 🙂 Worth it from my point of view

  32. Camman

I like all this Sony. This one missed the mark. The idea is good, but the pictures are degraded (by photographer standards). I imagine this is the intended market.

  33. AndresG

This is a good money saver if you want to increase focal length and have one stop of light to spare. I have this in my bag every time I want to carry less weight in my camera bag and have my longest lens increased 1,4x focal length.

  34. jjjorg

Gr3at. Im no professional but it came very use for moon photagraphy.

  35. WilsonOS

I must admit I had my reservations after reading some of the reviews, but I’ve been more than pleased with the results. Yes, you do need more light because of the f-stop loss and the autofocus does take slightly more time but with good light, the shots are impressive. Pretty darn sharp and the extra reach is exactly what I needed for my bird photography. Definitely worth the buy though I wish it were a little less expensive. All things considered, I’d recommend it if you want extra reach!

  36. HKTT

Love this teleconverter. It is a game changer for bird photography!

  37. Jonny

I haven’t used it paired with my 70-200mm GM II or 200-600mm G but can’t wait to get closer than before.

  38. Jrbaugh

Use with my Sony 6500 for birding with 200 600 lens

  39. DanJ

Great 1.4x teleconverter for our Sony mirrorless camera.

  40. Awool

This Teleconverter really works. The pictures stay clear, the focusing is fast. It is small and does not take up a lot of space. I would highly recommend it for getting that extra reach. Just check the sony lens you have to make sure it is compatible.
