Our surround sound system finally went off to the big entertainment center in the sky and we went on the hunt for a new one. I did not want one that had an overly complicated app and one that would integrate easily. We were recommended the Sonos arc along with their larger bass unit, not an inexpensive purchase but we tend to buy once and cry once when we can afford to do so. We brought them home and tried to get it set up. The app was making connecting the bass unit difficult and we couldn’t get the sound right. There were a lot of speakers all firing off sound, but it was more like a noise than sound as all of them tried to enter the room at the same time. The voices were too low compared to the rest of the sound and when we tried to calibrate it and correct the volume we found the main hurdle we couldn’t fix. We do not have an Iphone. Sonos will tell you directly that the only way you can calibrate their system is to have an Iphone, and if you do not have an Iphone just get someone who does to come over and calibrate it for you. Um, no thank you, and we were slightly annoyed that we were not told of this issue at purchase. There is no mention that if you do not have the Iphone you are only going to get about 70% of the speakers functionality and about 50% control. This is not an Iphone versus Samsung debate, this is about purchasing something that you cannot use without that knowledge. Without it, it is a lot of noise and not refined. The speakers actually caused a frequency that when emitted caused pain in my ears, neck and back, with no way to reduce that for us. If you have an Iphone, this might be an amazing system. If you do not, I would recommend Bose, which is what we ended up going back to.

Set up was the easiest I ever had. Did not add a subwoofer just because I am in a top floor condo. But that would be the only thing that could improve the sound. But really not needed unless you really like to thump music or movies

I have bought many soundbars before but decided to splurge on the Sonos Arc. Wow what a difference. Makes my open floor plan living room feel like a movie theater. Also if you can add the soundbar I would highly recommend that too.

Looking at soundbars, I finally settled on the Arc. While I think it might be getting a little long in the tooth, it checked all the boxes I was looking for that wasn’t offered in some less expensive models but several hundred dollars less than the next tier of soundbars. It provides enough bass on its own for the room it’s in but expanding might be an option down the road.

One of the best Dolby Atmos sound bar speaker with up firing speaker built in for height channel in a compact format this Arc consists of the Front left, right, center, and front height channel speaker in one bar. Mother of crackers and oyster sauce. This soundbar blew me away when I tried it out in the store. With the bass add-on, a new change of clothes was almost required when the bear roared. With that being said, Sonos is a well-known, reviewed brand that produces quality sound and is aesthetically pleasing to myself. However, it does have some issues which is the the cost of the hardware is fairly high and additional hardware to make it a full surround sound are purchased separately (thus, I only have the sound bar). Another nitpick, that is personal preference only, is the lack of a physical remote to control device. However, there is an app for Android and iOS that controls the sound level and other features such as night mode and dialogue enhance.

Sonos Beam (Gen 2) is a great soundbar for those who want to improve their home theater experience without breaking the bank.
