The Galaxy Tab S series of tablets are Samsung’s flagship tablets renowned for top notch performance. With vibration abilities, compass, surface level, S Pen and a snappy Snapdragon processor, many will appreciate the value of the Tab S8; delivered at a measly 1.10 lbs.
Following the current trend of very minimalistic packaging, the contents on the drastically reduced packaging box size are essentially 5 (five) items:
USB-C data/charge cable
• Galaxy Tab S8
• S Pen
• Ejector Pin
• Quick Start Guide
You certainly get what you paid for in terms of hardware when dealing with the Galaxy Tab S series. My aluminum encased Tab S8 incorporates an Octa Core Snapdragon Gen 1 processor, configured with 128GB of internal memory, 8 GB RAM and an 8000mAh battery. The battery is capable of Samsung’s Super Fast Charging technology with a 45W charger. Samsung offers this as an optional accessory but once you have tried it, it becomes clear it is very essential. A full charge lasts over a day with moderate binging in my experience. MicroSDs up to 1 TB can be used to expand storage when needed. Four (4) AKG Stereo speakers featuring Dolby Atmos, evenly split between the top and bottom of the tablet deliver a rather immersive experience. The display is a 120 Hz, 11 inch TFT LCD display capable of 2560 x 1600 resolution. Having previously owned a Galaxy Tab S6, I have come to prefer the LCD display over the Super AMOLED version. It is a personal choice due to the color production being not as oversaturated as the latter. I miss out on the darker blacks and better battery life but it is a fair trade off for my purposes. The device runs Android 12 out of the box along with Samsung’s One UI version 4.1; it could potentially receive updates to Android 16.
For connectivity, Wi-Fi 6E 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax standard radio is onboard. Bluetooth version 5.2 also helps quick connectivity with the Samsung ecosystem. The convenience of automatically pausing your tablet so you can answer a call on your phone and then resuming the tablet once completed is priceless in my opinion. With compatible handsets, calls and text messages can be received on the tablet. The Galaxy Tab S8 ports a 12MP ultrawide camera in the front and a 13MP autofocus, 6MP ultrawide array in the rear. For dark environments, a flash is provided. Pictures are decent but I will be sticking with my Note as that has a more formidable array of lenses. The flash doubles as a flash light via the Edge Panel utility. There is no NFC on the Galaxy Tab S8. In other tablets I have previously owned, NFC helped facilitate quick pairing with compatible Bluetooth enabled devices.
Unlike the Tab S8 Plus or the Tab S8 Ultra, the fingerprint reader is embedded in the power button. In my experience, it is more reliable compared to the ultrasonic variant located under the display of my Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G. It could be due to the fact that the smartphone display probably gets dirtier/oily compared to the power button on the tablet. Face recognition is another biometric security feature.
The Tab S8 ships with the S Pen that all fans of he Note series have come to consider highly invaluable. Latency is now at the lowest level to create a truly enjoyable experience scribbling on the tablet. Its features have evolved over the years and can currently perform the following tasks:
• Help clip text and images from apps
• Take notes and convert to text
• Perform translations
• Capture pictures, control music
For storage, the S Pen attaches magnetically to the rear of the tablet in a very specific orientation (nib towards camera array. It gets charged by the tablet in the process.
As tablets and smartphones have evolved, the laptop has been relegated. I primarily perform about 80 percent of tasks via my smartphone (Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G). For streaming purposes (audio and video), I rely on the Tab S8. Microsoft Office is available for free on tablets 10.1 inches or smaller and as such the Tab S8 requires a subscription in order to use. I have never been a fan of the Samsung DeX feature. I prefer to keep the desktop and tablet experience separate. For gaming, Asphalt 9 handles very well with no lag.
For the next iteration, NFC would be very much welcome. Although everyone appreciates going Green, including a charger adapter would go a long way to win converts to the brand, especially as every other manufacturer appears to be shipping without them too. I believe my Tab S6 shipped with replacement nibs for the S Pen. I commend Samsung for the very sleek formfactor and shape. It also appears to be the same size as its predecessor implying cases could be reused if upgrading from the Tab S7. This could also be a nod to their Green initiative; way to go Samsung.

Things I like:
– The overall feel. It feels solid in your hands. It has enough weight that it doesn’t feel cheap, but it’s not so heavy that it becomes uncomfortable to hold for an hour or two.
– The screen bezel is about ⅜ of an inch, which is small enough so you don’t feel like you’re losing out on display size, and just big enough so you can easily hold the tablet without inadvertently interacting with the screen.
– The S-Pen is a welcome addition. My old Note 8 had an S-Pen, so I’m somewhat familiar with the concept, but this one is a definite step up. If you’re a bit more old-school, and like making handwritten notes, you’ll appreciate the pen. With the included Samsung Notes app, you can easily take & organize notes. Writing doesn’t feel exactly like on paper, but it’s actually not as awkward as you’d think. It’s smooth, responsive, and easy to make edits.
– S-Pen gestures. I could go either way on these. Some will find them gimmicky, but some will find them useful. Basically, they allow you to remotely perform certain actions on your tablet, by making specific gestures with your pen. For example, while playing music, you can hold the S-Pen button & flick your wrist to the right to skip a track. If you’re in the camera app, you can use gestures to zoom in/out & snap a picture.
Dislikes/things to be aware of:
– Like most devices these days, it does not come with a charger. I know that probably isn’t a big deal to many, and it probably reduces electronic waste, but I still find it annoying. If I’m dropping over $600 on a new gadget, give me a way to charge the thing.
– Along the same charging lines, it does use an included USB-C to USB-C charging cable, so make sure that you have a compatible charging brick. Using USB-C is a good thing, but something to be aware of in case you don’t already have a compatible charging brick.
– I’m not sold on the storage design for the S-pen yet. It attaches magnetically to the back of the tablet, which is also how it charges. There’s no indent or cradle; it just clings to the back, waiting to get knocked off. The magnet is strong enough that the pen isn’t just going to fall off on its own, so that’s a plus.
Overall, it’s a great device so far. Performance is good, plenty of storage (128 GB), bright display, and decent sound. You won’t be disappointed.

If you’re in the market for a high-end Android tablet the Galaxy Tab S lineup has you covered. All 3 models (11inch, 12.4, and 14.6) have the same high-end internal specs except for the screen size and the 11inch model using LCD panel instead of OLED.
Pros:
Gorgeous display that is bright with punchy colors with a high refresh rate of 120hz
Loud Quad Speaker System
Snappy Performance
Ample storage for the base model (128GB along with 8GB of RAM)
Expandable Storage via Micro SD up to 1TB.
Dex (transforms your home screen into a desktop environment optimized for productivity)
Super Fast charging speed via a 45w charger (not included)
Running the latest OS as of this review (Android 12)
S Pen included
Solid Build Quality
Excellent Battery Life
Cons:
Low selection of Android Apps optimized for the larger screen
No wall adapter included
No headphone jack
Strong productivity software like LumaFusion missing
The Galaxy Tab S8 is an amazing Android Tablet that is packed with some useful software features like Dex support. With Dex, you’re able to transform your tablet into a desktop environment that makes it so much easier for productivity work. You can easily move Windows around next to each other as you do on a Windows environment. With proper mouse and keyboard support, I was able to do my review from the S8 Tablet. You can use a USB C to USB A adapter to plug in a wireless keyboard dongle or over Bluetooth if supported. I was able to use the same Dock that I use for my MacBook Air to connect the S8 Tablet to my monitor, and I was also able to transfer files from my portable SSD back and forth from the S8 tablet. Since Samsung packed in the latest processor along with 8GB of Ram, even with multiple apps open I did not experience any stutters or system crashes. I was even able to play some games like Cod Mobile through my monitor using a wireless Bluetooth controller. Samsung did announce a version of LumaFusion will be coming soon. Hopefully this will be the start of more developers porting over productivity apps available in iPadOS. So far the productivity apps available hardly offer any big difference from their phone counterpart. For the most part, Android does a good job upscaling apps to the full screen. But some apps can still benefit from some optimization to better utilize the extra real state screen. Some of the apps come across as blown-up phone apps.
Hardware quality is amazing, and for this year’s model, it feels a lot sturdier compared to the S7+ Tablet I have been using. Right off the bat, I was able to tell how much better this tablet felt. The hefty weight from the sturdier aluminum that Samsung claims is 30% stronger sure does feel like it. I have no complaints at all from a build quality standpoint.
Not only does the Tab S8 shine as a productivity machine for basic office work, but also does as a multimedia consumption device. The onboard speakers get plenty loud, the only time I used headphones was at night time, so I wouldn’t disturb my partner. Even at the highest setting, I did not hear any distortion. For the display, Samsung gives you 2 color profiles to pick from. The default setting is vivid which is the one I prefer. The other setting is natural. This tablet is awesome for binge-watching Netflix shows and watching YouTube videos. With Wi-Fi 6 e and Bluetooth 5.2 onboard, video buffers and audio drops should be a thing of the past. For security measures, the power button also acts as a thumbprint reader. I was able to quickly unlock my tablet with my thumbprint.
Overall, I am happy with the Tab S8. Going from the S7+ I was concerned that LCD was going to be a letdown. Safe to say after a couple of minutes of watching videos and web browsing my concerns were at ease. The hardware is top-notch with the only caveat being the missing software to take advantage of the hardware. With LumaFusion being ported over, in a year or two we might have a bigger selection of productivity that nearly offers all the bells and whistles of their desktop counterpart. For now, if you’re not trying to edit videos and just need a tablet for basic productivity work and media consumption I highly recommend checking out The Galaxy Tab S8 line-up.

Samsung – Galaxy Tab S8 – 11” 128GB – Wi-Fi – with S-Pen – Silver
The Galaxy Tab S8 runs the latest Android operating system. It pairs with your Samsung phone to both send and receive phone calls and text messages. I’ve had an issue with the phone part of this. Once in a while the tablet will start ringing a minute after I’ve already answered the call on my phone. When left alone it will continue to ring as long as you let it. The tablet has also started ringing after I ended the call on my phone. I’m sure this is a glitch in the OS because my Galaxy watch has the same functions and has never done this. I’m sure Samsung knows about this and will release a fix once they find what’s causing it.
It comes with a charging cable, but no power adapter. This is a little bit of an issue because it really wants a better power adapter than you might have around the house. I ordered the correct Samsung charger to use, and it made a difference in charge time. Normal charge time was just over 2 hours with an extra adapter. With the correct one from Samsung that time is cut by more than half. Not saying you couldn’t charge it slow, that’s probably good for the battery, but when you want to use it, you need it to charge quickly. As for battery life, it’s not as good as I had hoped. Using it for 45 minutes in the morning, doing email, web surfing, and simple tasks, the battery has dropped to 45% in a week. So that puts the useful battery like at about 6 or 7 hours. I guess this isn’t bad, they say in the specs that I saw a battery life of 7.5 hours. My small issue with that is my other tablet, being used exactly the same way, goes almost 3 weeks before needing to be charged.
The tablet is very responsive, and has a crisp clear screen, it is not a top of the line screen but it is bright, clear, and looks great. They removed the removable Micro SD slot and put in a SIM style Micro SD holder. This makes changing the expandable storage a problem for those who want to just put in a card and see the pictures or what ever is on it. You’ll need to use the pin tool included to eject the Micro SD card holder to change cards. It’s still better than the other guy, but not as good as it was. It has 4 speakers that sound good. Not to tinny but lacking any real bass. The S-Pen attaches magnetically to the back of the tablet and charges from the tablet itself. When using the S-Pen It does a good job of ignoring your hand on the screen while you draw. Like most pens, I’ve found they are not that much use to me. It’s very nice to be included, but I wouldn’t see it as a selling point without some good apps dedicated to using it. The pen feels ok in your hand, but the flat side used for charging seems in the wrong place for the button. This of course is just my point of view and in no way detracts from the pen itself. There is no headphone jack, but you can purchase an adapter, or just purchase USB-C headphones or headset.
There is camera support for unlocking as well as a fingerprint reader. I’ve found the fingerprint is the fastest way to unlock it, as any other way you have to go through 2 steps to get it open. When using the fingerprint reader, it simply opens as soon as touch it. Wi-Fi is solid and as fast as any other device I’ve used. Bluetooth is also useful for attaching headphones or a headset. There are a plethora of devices that will work with Android over Bluetooth.
The only options for external hard connections are USB-C and a dedicated magnetic keyboard port. Not having a keyboard I’m unsure if the keyboard has any extra ports.
My bottom line is this is a really good tablet but it’s size (larger than other small tablets) and weight (heaver than others in it’s size range) make it something you will need to hold in your hands before you purchase this one. There are other TAB S8’s that are even larger with more performance. You’ll want to decide how you’ll be using it. This one might be spot on, or you might want a larger…faster one.

Today there are all kinds of crazy tablets out there with built-in keyboards, kickstands, swivels, etc. to which the Galaxy Tab S8 bucks all of those trends and instead focuses on the true function of a tablet and knocks it out of the park! I preface my review in saying in the true sense of a portable tablet this is the best tablet as if you are looking for kickstands and keyboards just buy a laptop. Biases aside though right out of the box you can tell that Samsung has continued to evolve with their tablets as the build quality is top notch as the case has that metal finish and the tablet is not too light and flimsy feeling like budget tablets. The overall feel before even powering on the tablet gives a premiere aesthetic.
With the actual performance of the tablet though this thing definitely holds its own compared to any other tablet on the market (yes the m1 chip on the iPad may technically be more powerful, but within regular normal use they are near identical). The battery is also exceptional providing enough power for an entire day of driving that I took it on and the fast charging is an extremely nice feature. Many will complain that it does not have an OLED display, but comparing them side by side the difference is extremely minimal (aside from when using the “eye comfort shield” feature at night if you choose to do so) as the brightness with this tablet is unmatched and pictures and streaming video came across very sharp especially with the 120Hz refresh rate (superior to the iPad`s 60Hz). As someone coming from the Apple ecosystem I was extremely impressed with the Android 12 operating system as everything was extremely snappy and every app or task I wanted to complete was made easily available to which I had no issues at all regarding the operating system combined with the power of this tablet. I also do want to mention the cameras as traditionally this is not a focal point of tablets, but Samsung has really stepped up their game with the front facing camera as it is now an ultra-wide camera with an auto framing feature that follows you to ensure you remain centered to which this featured combined with the noise cancellation mics has been great for video calls on the go. The final item I have to mention is the S pen as I was amazed at how well this worked with it coming included with the tablet as with other tablets usually it is just a gimmicky after thought, but Samsung really brought its previous experiences with the S Pen perfectly to the S8 as it was extremely fluid and I love the mate/rubbery texture to which the magnet for holding on the back of the tablet was plenty powerful as well.
As can be seen I am a major proponent for this tablet though others may say it is far inferior to the more premier S8+ or S8 Ultra models to which in my opinion the only real true differences are the screen size as yes technically the screen is OLED, the s pen sensitivity is better, there is an in screen fingerprint sensor, and they have larger batteries. However, I can refute the majority of these in that with the screen, as mentioned earlier, unless you are using the blue light “eye comfort shield” setting there is minimal difference, the s pen sensitivity is nearly unnoticed unless you are a professional graphic design artist, the finger-print sensor on the side button works quicker on the S8 in my experience, and the larger battery simply offsets the power to run the larger display. Thus, if you are looking for a true portable tablet going larger than 11 inches becomes cumbersome in my opinion and any further than that buying a laptop at that price point is the better value with how advanced they have become.
The other elephant in the room is the new iPad Air (2022) and to which is better and with that I will say they are near identical in almost all respects as yes Apple was the first to market, but Samsung has caught up and even surpassed them in some areas. There really are not many differences so it really simply comes down to ecosystem (iPadOS or Android) as the difference in price is made up on Samsung`s side with the inclusion of the S Pen and twice the storage of the iPad.
Thus, to wrap it all up I really don`t think you can find a tablet on the market that provides a better value than the S8 as Samsung has really focused on the areas of true importance from the feel and build quality down to the elements of performance including the display, battery life, and overall performance.

I have an ipad and purchased a galaxy tab s8. So far, I love so much about it, how the galaxy tab s8 looks so great physically and graphically, very slim, very responsive, free S-Pen, and also I love the option to insert an SD Card to boost your storage, which I did at a minimal cost. The screen is big enough so that I can read any books where the whole page can be viewed without scrolling down and love the resolution when I watch Netflix.
Unhappy –
It’s too large to be held comfortably. My old tablet was an 8″ Samsung Galaxy, but they don’t make one that size with sufficient storage capacity. At least that’s what the salesman told me. I’m a senior citizen, and this is not easy to operate.

Customers get treated respectfully and even if we do not know what we are doing, workers do not make you feel stupid. Love your store and personnel
Meliason –
It’s exactly what I was looking for. The only thing that’s not perfect is location of pen. It can get bumped and fall off easily. But once I got a case that problem was solved.

I’ve owned an ipad pro for the last 4 years. Not a bad device but I find ipad os to be a bit restricting and limiting. So I just got the tab s8 and here’s what I love about it and why it’s my favorite device. Sometimes I like to relax on the couch and use my tablet to look up scores, read the news, shop a little, read reviews, and play some games. When I have a meeting that requires bringing a device, I put my tab s8 into my Chesona keyboard case which has a trackpad. Just like that I have an amazing laptop that works great. Later when I get to my desk which has a 25 inch monitor, I connect it to the monitor via an hdmi cable and it automatically transforms into Dex mode. Now I have an amazing desktop computer experience. Not only does it work in tablet, laptop, and desktop modes, it does it super well. And it comes with the spen which works great. Not too sensitive but not overly sensitive either. I couldn’t imagine spending another $130 on the pen. The tab s8 is super bright and colorful, lightweight, ultra fast, and reasonably priced. One of the best technology experiences I’ve ever had.

Purchased this tablet to replace and aging iPad and we like it. The stylus pen is a great feature that allows you to use it for many things from hand writing to drawing to using it as a pseudo mouse so your fingerprints don’t smudge the screen.
The screen resolution is pretty sharp and videos and games look really good, even with faster motion. The speakers are OK for a tablet and it could use more bass and depth, but I guess you can pair it with an external speaker.
The weight of the tablet feels good and it’s not too heavy that you can’t use it for long periods of time. We purchased the Samsung case for it as well and it holds the stylus pen nicely so it doesn’t get lost. Without a case, the stylus pen simply hangs on the side with the magnets and it’s easy to bump it off.
The WiFi 6 is pretty fast and it pairs with our home’s WiFi 6 access points and delivers some pretty fast speeds. We can easily get over 330Mbps up and down with our ISP so watching streamed movies is very stable on the device.
The battery life is decent and it can last a few days the way we use it. But we do notice that it seems to drain a bit faster than our previous old iPad.
Overall, we like this tablet and we have other Android devices so the OS was very familiar in how to move around and get things done.

I purchased this tablet after being tired of losing memory space on my S6 lite ( also purchased here at Best Buy). I am glad I didn’t settle for the S7 and waited for S8 series! I love my Galaxy S8! Everything that I love about my S6 with more ram which is what I need. My tablet has replaced my desktop computer and my laptop. Also as a bonus, Samsung has finally made it possible to disable most background running apps that most of the time I don’t use which in my case, saves on ram space PLUS with 8g ram with an option to go to 6 or even 4 to help save memory and battery life

Great picture and sound! Easy to set up and use. Another win for Samsung.

Excellent purchase. I will recommend it to family and friends

I’m really enjoying this tablet. The processor and RAM allow for a lot of versatility. The display looks great. I wasn’t sure about how the S-pen attaches with a magnet, but I haven’t had any problems for it. Works really well.

You cant go wrong with the Tab S8. The tablet is speedy and the size is perfect. I’ve had this for a few months and it performs great!
Usually Android tablets have a bad reputation, but Tab S8 lineup is fantastic.

I purchased the Samsung S8 tablet online and opted for store pick-up. The day of pick-up the staff was very attentive and polite and asked to see the e-mail with my pick-up information. I showed it and one of them walked off and was back 2 minutes later with it in hand. The only thing I didn’t like was a huge sticker on the tablet box with my information on it (see pic). I’m glad the purchase was for myself and not a gift because that wouldn’t have gone over well. Make sure you purchase a screen protector and case for your tablet. I picked the foldable case with the Bluetooth keyboard (see pic). I have now owned the tablet for 8 months and have never had any issues. Well there was a small issue when I noticed the cord that came with it was a USB Type-C on both ends. I bought a power block and it charges so much faster than the S7 that came with the block and USB to Type-C cord. It performs flawlessly and has never lagged. For reference, my kids have at least 20 games downloaded and I have photos, emails, countless saved documents (as my son does school from home), youtube, and about 12 video streaming apps and countless other apps and I haven’t come close to running out of storage or had to close apps running in the background. It’s faster, louder, and brighter then any other phone or tablet I’ve owned. My friends and family are amazed with it when they watch something on it. I think the S-pen is a nice bonus and I mess around with it from time to time. I really enjoy when I hook the keyboard to it and it works just like a desktop. I’m clumsy with a touchscreen so typing with the keyboard is so much faster (see pic). I also own the Samsung S7 tablet so I can compare them. My daughter uses the S7 daily (see pic). It’s perfect for her but I notice the S8 is faster, the S-pen works better, and the speakers sound better. I do want to say, we’ve never had an issue with the S7. If it weren’t for my daughter begging to have her own tablet I would’ve still been using the S7 and I was content with it. If you are wanting to purchase one of the ones I mentioned, definitely get the S8 because Samsung will not have any OS updates after this year for the S7. The S8 is supposed to receive OS updates until 2026. So that’s the biggest deal breaker along with the other things I’ve stated!!

I love it. So far I used it for business related purposes. I haven’t had any issues with the tablet.

Great display and decent battery life. One ui is super clean and nice to use. The fast refresh rate is a nice tough. It is not as smooth as an oled, but it does the job. Overall, for the price it is a great deal.
