Our family has 35mm slides from the 60s. I know I could bring them to a photo lab but the pricing seemed high. I bought the Plustek unit and decided to scan them myself. The software is great and the outcome of the digital files is fantastic. I am very satisfied with this purchase

It does a excellent job of digitizing the slides. Works very well!

I used to scan my 35mm film and transparencies on a Minolta Dimage Elite scanner. I’m not sure if its the software, the computer , or the scanner hardware, but I don’t really see much of a difference between the finished product from the Plustek OpticFilm 8200i AI and my scans from the 20 year old Minolta scanner. You would think that the technology would have advanced quite a bit and at least be somewhat noticeable. However, the older film scanners have been forced to be obsolete because they are no longer supported with the exception of one software company offering support for most outdated scanners. If you don’t have access to an older scanner or would just rather have a new one, than I’m sure you could save quite a bit of money and opt for a less expensive model than the 8200i AI. It’s superiority is only in what the software allows you to do with the scan. The scan itself is virtually the same scan you’ll get from 20 year old scanner technology. After all, a pixel is smaller than a grain on a piece of film.
